Hello- I apologize if this has been answered before but I did a search for "3d printing" and ".STL" in the AM forums search and it came up blank...so here goes: When exporting an .STL file with AM17, does the mesh need to be continuous to be recognized by the printer?...or can there be multiple models intersecting each other, without there being one unified mesh? (see picture)... In this simplistic picture there is a sphere (figure A) with some of the points pulled out..and then there is a sphere (figure with a cylinder intersecting. Are both of these models "legal" to the 3D printer? Will both models "print out" accurately? Thanks for any insigh…

http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...mp;hl=Composite While looking for more info on compositing I came across this thread from 2006 about a plug in that Marcel Bricman had written for T Wessling. There was some talk that he may have introduced it to the wider AM community later on and I wondered if there was any news on that now ? regards simon Apologies. Just found another thread about Sumi and couldn't stop this one. My Mistake.

Hey guys, sorry if the topic description made it sound like a 'marijuana reference'... I use patch images a lot, they RULE! And lately I have been playing with eXporting A:M data so I can use it in Element 3D, Cinema 4D (Maybe I AM stoned!) and trying to get A:M/bake imagery to play nice with polygonal UVW placements(making slit-wrist motions!) and I notice that patch images seem to be 'immune' to the whole baking process. ALSO- any links to some good tuts on this subject?

Have had difficulties with mystery channels appearing in the PWS ( I hope I'm using the right word with channels ? ) and the rotate handles on bones suddenly growing very large but never known what might be the cause. Yesterday morning, I went through all the models in the chor and deleted the oddities then worked on the walk of one of the figures, having hid the other models. In the evening I unhid the others and prepared to render it out, only to find that the mystery channels had reappeared, along with the elongated roll handles. I've circled both in this screen grab. The problem seemed to come about when the models were group selected in the PWS…

Have been having a number of quirky problems recently with the display of models in the chor. This is the latest one. As you can see in the picture, the model is active in the properties section, but in the view window only the bounding box shows up, not the actual wireframe of the model. If a partial quick render is done of the same view port, the models show in the render, while still being invisible in the view !!! It only seems to happen in this chor, the 4th, the others seem ok. Is there an easy explanation I might be missing? Any help gratefully received. regards simon Ps It had seemed resolved but, still getting problems with wavy splines o…

I've spent some time getting the fourth shot of the current short animated. At the beginning I constrained the flowers o the hand of the male character and that held all the way through. I was just going through and setting the pose sliders for the facial features when I noticed that the flowers were no longer constrained to the hand. Checked the settings under properties but they hadn't changed, but the flowers were no longer in the hand. One anomaly I have noticed is that a W value seems to have crept in to the rotate properties ? Not noticed that before? X, Y, Z I now start to understand but W ? Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, how did you fix it ?…

For a tutorial, I'm looking for example images of the following. Images that in a one-second glance can demonstrate the idea... Motion Blur Depth of Field Shadows Ambiance Occlusion Reflections Particles and Hair Subsurface scattering Fog Toon Render Field Render Stereoscopic 3D Plugin-shaders I have candidates for some of these but perhaps you recall better ones. If you can think of a good image, post a link to it here. Thanks!

I kind of missed the deadline here, but I didn't get back to my computer before the end of the Christmas holiday visiting my parents. So this ugly thing has been decorating my grandma's Christmas tree for the past 25 years. I drew this thing when I was five years old. I bet that if it could talk it would probably whisper something in the lines of "please kill me...." Anyway, just for the fun of it I had it scanned, made a simple model for it in A:M and added the decal. Also added a simple rig and made it move for a few seconds. It would be fun to collect all sorts of children's Christmas drawing and make an small animation out of it, guess I have to search my parents …

It has been a while since I made a complete micromovie. Let me say, doing a study of Alfred Hitchcock's directing through one of his masterpieces has been a great learning experience. I had a great time doing this project. I was determined to finish by year's end and I made it with a week to spare! Keeping true to the "One-Man-One-Computer" ethos, I used a number of the public models very much to the improvement the piece. Let me give special kudos to the builders of the "Rear Window" set. It is a wonderful miniverse. The set looks great from long shots to extreme close-ups. Bravo and thank you to the organizers and contributors to the 2012 Forum Project. …

I've got a 45 frame walk cycle. When I drop it onto a model, it's fine. But when I constrain the model to a path, it wants to make the walk cycle around 1/10th its length, like 4.5 frames, so in a 90 frame clip the walk cycle loops around ten times. I feel like I've seen this before but I cannot figure out how to fix it. This is happening in both v 16 and v 17.

Hi, I have a material that's supposed to create an atmosphere around a planet... however it won't work, its missing something. I need to create a green glow around these non-green spheres. Anyone have any ideas? Going to look at 'material effect' see if that's an option. Other wise I do not know how to make a material extend beyond the sphere it's attached to. Thanks, Rusty

I had chance this last week to do a scoreboard 'halftime' animation for my client Belle Tire... one of those things 'for the kids' where the stadium DJ will assign a random seating section to the outcome... and if chosen that section will get a prize... like a pack of M&M's or a free soda. This one was for the Grand Rapids Griffins, a Michigan Junior SemiPro hockey team- and they wanted a 'shell game' with 3 outcomes starring Tireman in an ice-hockey environment... Belle Tire's cartoon mascot that originated in 1922 and whom I have been animating in A:M for the past few years. I started animating the pucks sliding around and quickly realized I was in 'keyframe h…

Every year since 2007 I have been creating a video to hype up our family's annual Carpet Ball tournament. Some of you here may recall me doing my WIP threads every year and im sure everyone was questioning where it was. But probably not I didnt have quite as much time this year to put into it. Next years is going to be far better. I am planning t recreate new models and retire these characters. They have had a good run but its time to make something I am more proud of and would show to potential employers. This year's was just to be more 'epic' and I based the whole video around the song With Great Power by Immediate Music. Very epic movie trailer style music.…

Plugging away steadily I'm trying to get to grips with smartskin. watched Roberts excellent video and making progress. A quick question though, Do I have to make a new SS for every joint as a separate relationship or, can they all be done in one reltionship ? eg, making an initial SS for right forearm can I make an SS for the wrist in the same window/relationship or does it have to be a new SS/relationship ? regards simon

hey guys, haven´t been here for a while, and of course i have a question: i´m trying to find a way to simulate a stop-motion look without having to animate frame by frame. so i thought a possible solution would be to add some sort of random expression to the bones rotation, so that they would rotate randomly with very low values (let´s say from 0,1° to 0,3° or so) each frame. i´m not very familiar with expressions in a:m, in after effects the wiggle expression is fairly simple and can be applied to almost every parameter. i hope it´s similar in a:m. any advice?

In the past I have posted about 3D printing from A:M, however, this time I thought I would show some of the work from my day job and how A:M plays a big part in it. We recently finished work on ICE AGE LIVE. An ice show that will be touring Europe for the next few years. We designed and built the large puppets and costumes for the show. In order to reproduce the characters as accurately as possible, I took the original animation geometry from Blue Sky Studios into Animation Master, and after a bit of modification to fit human performers where necessary, I patterned directly off the digital character within A:M to create flat patterns for our fabric department …

Hello ... I would like to announce a new game that I created called "Izzy the Busy Squirrel". It is a simple puzzle-strategy-memory game. All of the models and animations were created with Animation:Master and then exported with the AMXtex plug-in exporter created by Chris Roy (plus some other converters as well) ... Please visit ---> http://www.pencilwedgees.com and select the "GAME" link to find out more. Please note that if you are running Vista or 7 that you MAY need to also install DirectX 9.0c ... Okay, here's a silly quesiton... Let's say I have an animated sequence with keyframes in various locations spread throughout the sequence. In other words... it's a real mess. Is there a way to force a keyframe for every bone that has a keyframe assigned to it on every frame of the animation? My thought is that while I want to reduce the number of keyframes I don't want to risk altering the current animation to any great extent. Keying every frame would allow going back in and deleting keyframes while knowing that other keys are still in place. This is an approach I've found to work really well with simulation (such as Simcloth which places a keyfram…

Robcat has offered me a chance to do some learning. He has three courses to teach. I would very much like to have others join in on this class and if your interested please post here to become involved. Once we have enough I will defer control to Robcat who will be doing the teaching. The animation courses being offered are the following: 1 bouncing ball 2 broad jump 3 three emotions On a side note, Rob if no one is interested I am still very interested in learning what you have to offer.

hi all, here is a preview of my new shader that i am developing. its a physical sky shader based on "preetham´s" paper. at the moment it is only an ambient shader that can be applied on an "environment sphere" for background renderings. it can be controlled by a light or by date, time, longitudes and lattitudes. i hope it can be also implemented for sampling an ambient occlusion environment, so that we also have one more option in the "global ambience" slot... Is A:M supposed to automatically re-size the images in an image sequence when it imports them? Wanted to share a little show-and-tell. I just finished the second of a series of TV spots for a Michigan medical facility. The agency is using stylized artwork/illustrations in print and billboards and wanted to expand the look and style of them into :30 TV spots. My task was to try to make the illustration hold its own and be captivating for an extended amount of time, via animation. The way I went about it was to use A:M as a sort of 3D compositor to add dimension and movement to the image. By deleting all of the lights and using 100% global illumination and setting each layer to 'flat shaded' and 'no shadows' renders were quite swift. I used After Effects before and a…

It's been awhile since I have posted in the forums, but robcat2075 informed me that some of you might find these current projects of interest. Last year I bought myself a Thing-O-Matic from Makerbot.com, and have designed most of the things I have printed on it with A:M. Lightcycle at Thingivers.com Today I have finished one of my steam engine models, fully designed in A:M and them printed on my Makerbot in ABS.
