So something I'm trying to do is make flames, something like this: I figured particles wouldn't give me the random shapes I want, so I'm trying fluid. Now fluid might work if I could add turbulence or something to it, because currently, the particles for fluid are too round and not wavy like Fire.mov If anybody has any insight or ideas, please, post!

Here's an experiment using flaming particles. this is as far as it's rendered. Taking about 45 minutes per frame. Need to make a few other changes. David terrain_dpllc.m1v

I've decided to learn Actionscript over Christmas break this year, so I thought it would be fun to try some 3D stuff. This is what I have so far: - System to render out nodes, edges, and polygons - Basic control system (rotate, zoom, and move camera) - Java "converter" which takes a .mdl file and converts it to a custom formatted text file - Actionscript importer which imports the data from the text file and constructs a model from it I attached a picture of the model in AM, here's the same model in flash: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/engine.htm Current issues: - It runs pretty slowly. There are a few things I'…

This is a flea character for our little film. There is a QT view of him here. It's coming together quite well now. The voice track is almost completed (I have one person yet to record) and a team starting to animate. We've been modelling mostly up to now. [attachmentid=15198]

Hello fellow AM'ers, I've been working on a short for a couple of years (calendar time) and it is now ready to show everyone. Without further ado, I present: Skeeters Comments welcome, of course. Enjoy. (The web site is new, too. Feel free to look around.)

I've been running an RPG off and on, but I wanted to give it a little more punch. I've had AM for a while but haven't really had a project this involved. It will be a series of shorts showing events that have happened in the game and covering some out of game background. The setting is an alternate present sci-fi, so it has some unique points at its core but it also borrows heavily from current culture. My first animation is going to be a med bay, depicting the start of the game. I've nearly finished one of the props, and I'm working on rigging a character right now. mostly for the experience since I'll have a few characters that won't be able to use a standard rig. …

Hey guys, It's been like 6 months since I've posted anything content wise! So I took sometime this afternoon to make a quick animation. It's just for practice but it does need some finishing for sure.... But I won't be working on it anymore, as I'm one of those guys who can spend an eternity trying to perfect things.... and those are the people who usually never finish anything! Anyhows... check it out! About 800kb, sorneson http://www.vrcops.com/vids/OverTable4A.mov btw.... is anyone else really not satisfied at all with the newest version of quicktime? at least on the pc.... Here is a new version of the animation I did for the Anzovin Studios' "Setup Machine 2" contest in November. It's basically a commercial showcasing The Setup Machine's rigging capabilities. Toward the end I added a front flip (with a full tuck) for a little extra pizzaz. It goes by fast to stay in sync with the timing of the jumps, so you may need to step through frame-by-frame to appreciate it fully. Lo Res (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 320x240, 1.1Mb) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/AnzovinContest2_LowRes.qt Enjoy!

Hi, This was my first time entering an Image Contest, and it was really a blast! I was busy the week before finishing off "The Door is Stuck" in TAOAM (check it out in New Users and give me some critiques on that too if you get a second). Then I jumped right into this, it took about 4 days, give or take. I'll post some wireframes and other images here if anyone is interested. To start, if anyone wants a good laugh, here's my chicken-scratch sketch where this began: -Jim ...and some wireframes: -Jim ...and some shots from other angles:

I'm making an animation of a bacteriophage attacking a cell for biology. At one point, the cell's nucleus needs to start spewing "baby" bacteriophages. I've tried, but I can't seem to get a flock to work. Every time I try, the swarm/birds flock just sits there and doesn't display any models. I was wondering if anyone here could help? I need to finish it by tomorrow morning. I'm including the model and a clip. If you're messing with the model, open the Cell model, select the "For Hiding" group, and press Hide. This will hide the front of the cell so you can see what you're doing. In the final animation, the front of the cell becomes transparent as the bacteriophage lands. …

Hey all!! Just wanted to have fun with a little character last night and put him into a scene. Now the scene is really something I slapped together and I'm not the greatest artist, but just wanted to put the character in a scene. Actually the background took like 30 minutes top but will be used for storyboard purposes. Satyajit modelled this cute little guy I created. I hope you like. He is for an upcoming 20 minute animation I'm working on. Not the main character but one of the many characters that will populate this little world. Let me know what you think. A little about the character: Bubba the Tengo Height: 3'4" Weight: 95 …

(1.5 years) I suddenly realized that today and decided to dust it off and play with a simple flour sack...I thought it would be a good exercise to make a walk cycle and possibly a few other actions. Hello - This is a little project for my wife whose favorite flower is mildly hinted at by the attached. I started with this by going for a more realistic flower scene but couldn't help myself (after watching Fantasia again) by trying something less literal. I'm posting for your impressions in particular for the pose. How does it read? Thanks. Doug

Old 'little' project that I never finished and since I was itching to do some animating again after a bit of a break (holidays, fixing things and such) I thought I would start finishing it off. Here's the flick: Flower Sniffin I still have a problem with the feet skidding (I have never fully worked out how to avoid this, or if I did I have forgotten how to do it) and a few other glitches. I have basically put Bella in her Igloo nad changed camera angles on her - not sure if I have done too many though... It's great to be doing some AM again!

Whipped this up in an hour for my reel...shows some of the capabilities of Steffan Gross's AWESOME newton Physics plug-in...which I am gonna use every chance I get. The collision detection scheme is the BEST I've seen yet coming out of A:M, and the plug-in is oh-so-easy to use. A GREAT addition to A:M's toolset. At D1 res each frame took 40 seconds. (No multipass) And big thanks to whoever wrote the helpful tutorial for the plug-in... I've lost the name. QUICKTIME is Sorenson3 compressed .8mb MCsmall.mov

Just had to rerender an old title as a favour for a friend, so I thought I'd post it here as well. From memory this was my first commercial test of Skycast. The cockatoo and plane are a long-standing combination, the line artwork is the RFDS' original design. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to animate the cockatoo in a substantial way. The titles were donated for use in the RFDS trek documentary. For those who don't know(Probably most of you , the trek is a bunch of 30 year old cars racing around outback Australia and fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The bird and the plane were modified from pre-existing models.

Since I am working overtime on my "real" job, I don't have time for serious animation projects these days. So I thought I'd try a simple project to teach myself a bit about compositing in AM. I have some video footage shot out the passenger window of my car and thought I might composite this with a flying Shaggy, as though he were flying along side the car like Superman. Simple animation project that could be done in the course of a day or so. The attached image shows how simple the green screen setup is. I've created a simple green screen behind Shaggy and will animate him bobbing and weaving in the air as though he were flying. Then I'll composite this with th…

Just found a great flight-sim game called "OVER FLANDERS FIELDS". So I've been hanging out on their Forum, flying and soaking my head in WWI lore. With A:M at my fingertips, I had to try a few planes. Here's the Fokker D.VIII. Some accounts claim this successor to the justly famed Fokker D.VII was unresponsive to the controls and under-powered due to the Oberusel rotary engine. [Fokker Triplanes shared that engine and problem] Other accounts say that if the war had lasted longer, the D.VIII would have emerged as the deadliest fighter of either side. It suffered from construction problems at first. Fokker's normally high standards had eroded, [he also contracted out a lot …

For a discussion on the trombone forum about how to have a convenient practice trombone small enough to play inside a car. I propose to chop the slide to have only 4 (rather than 7) positions and fold the unused portion back up the slide, so that the total length of the horn (and pitch) remain the same.

Tests on using hair with dynamics and forces. The grass looks good but the leaves on the tree seem to be moving a lot more than they should. They have the same dynamics settings as the grass. grassB000.mov One aspect I'm not sure about is the number of leaves which don't seem to be reacting to the forces at all. There is only one hair system on the ground and another on the tree, so I would have thought the forces would have produced equal motion across the board. Initially I also had dynamic constraints on the tree trunk but I pulled them out so that I could isolate the motion of the leaves.

Yves inspired me to go back to work on one of my old models (I have too many to choose from...). Started in v.9, stopped in version 9, because, well... it was version 9... restarted in 10.5 First the old version: Spinning Fairy New versions: half of the front side view The hair is a placeholder, it'll go away when I get 11.5 or 12 or whatever comes out next... I don't know what is causing the weird pattern on the wings or the leg, it seems to follow the splines but it only shows in a model window render and not the chor so I'm not gunna worry about it... yet. -Matt
