A little tricky to model, still have a few subtle wrinkles to take out. Had to manually flip a mirror and stitch it because the flip copy attach got stupid on me and would make a birds nest. If I get a chance to clean it up a bit more it will be in the exchange.

Will be posting this in the exchange, still fiddling with the ik, I messed a constraint up from client interruptions so I'll go through it tomorrow. Was rigging it so the handle can be attached to a character and it would follow and turn. Comments, suggestions?

Hi. Ive been wanting to expand my modeling skills. So I started modeling a human... My friends has a student ver. of zB.. uhm a program and let me install it on my laptop. I created a 1200 Patch base mesh in A:M and used the OBJ exporter and exported it out to the.. other program. I then sculpted it there and brought it back in, though I had to do a lot of resolution changes in the polymesh to have a clean convert to patches. The model that I use between the programs to work on has 21k patches, just at the threshold of what I needed. Here is where I am at: These to rendered at 1min15sec 5pass at Super35 each. Wires: I am enjoying this process very muc…

Just a little test for a bit I'm doing for someone else's project. Making book pages that don't turn like slabs of concrete: pageturntestMP4.mov the second shot shows the 4 bones the page mesh is attached to and the third shot shows the two bones that control the four bones. the first bone is animated directly the second Aims At the target bone the third and fourth bone are not pointed at the target, but are Oriented Like it 50% and 100% between the first bone and the target bone almost any page curve can be made. Only the middle page is rigged to turn like that. The others are just CP weighted around one bone to bend whichever way th…

I have a problem with lightening an acryl-block with an image behind it in A:M. The best result I could archieve till now is a Radiosity-rendering, which looks great except the dark parts behind the acryl-block. Anyone can give me a hint to what to do next? I cant increase the sample-area or the amount of photons (A:M seems to have a limit here). I attached the consolidated projekt (had to replace the image with a dummy-image... but that doesnt matter... The rendering here is a progressiv-one, but it although looks like that in final-rendering. I am talking about the chor "Radiosity_Acryl" here. There I am combining Arealight-Shadows with Radiosity. …

Has anyone here had one of their models converted to a physical object using a 3D printer? William posted a while back about doing that: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...&hl=printer If he's converted some of your models, let's see the result. I was in talks with him, but he never got back to me after we started discussing details.

Hi! Ive been doin a quick browse of my hard drive and came up with a few previously unorganized projects. So.. I picked up this project first and I plan to finish it. I started the old thread here: Here I just did some atmospheric adjustments and lighting adjustments as well. I updated the grass with a better alpha map (soon do be better too). I also changed the skymap and a few odds n ends. The render time is killer though, the screen shot below is after 10 hours of render time (was set a 1500x800 4pass, the first pass took 2 hours and it froze on the second pass) Its not the full render but a screenshot of the frozen screen and cropped. More soon…

Hi, I haven't posted anything in forever and thought I'd share what I'm working on. This is one of a few types of spacecraft I'm modeling for a live action greenscreen comp. Basically, I'm pushing the envelope with what I'm capable of doing. This is going to eventually end up on a showreel. I've still got some nurnies to add and some textures and cockpit interiors and so on. I created a small avi turn around that I wasn't able to upload for some reason. Anyway, crits welcome. I'll create some better wireframe pics. Steve P.

Looking at Stians amazing truck model I got inspired to model a classic mid 60's Ford GT40. This is the first time I have even attempted at modeling a car so I am going to have a lot of questions. I downloaded some blue prints and did a quick once over on Xtaz's car modeling tutes as well. So far Here is a shot of a modern Ford GT I am using as a visual reference: I REALLY want to finish this model and not forget or lose interest in it. Photoman

Just a small question. I tried earlier and wondered why I couldn't upload a movie of 9 seconds I made with the animation Master. The first time, some months ago, I thought it was my computer with virussscanner and firewall. Now I tried again and I can only fill in the description, and then I come to the thumbnail page. I can push any button, nothing happens. Is it my computer or is it the protected area I'm bouncing on? Not that I worry that much, but I thought I would let you know. Thanks, MadFox.

I've restarted this in the WIP section, because I intend to make this ongoing project a working model. After spending time experimenting with displacement maps, and flirting with bump maps, I decided to go ahead and just model in the frets and the Nut. I've completed the and attached the neck. Next the bridge and the saddle. that should be easier, followed by the tuning machines and finally the strings. Necked0.mov

It's been a long long time since I've posted any personal work - and I have now started re-fooling around (got my ver 15 back - woo hoo - me happy camper) - Here's the start of a character that I will probably use in one of the short animations I have in mind to do. The character is a modified Ork model being used in Scarecrow of Oz - designed by Alain Desroucher, modeled by Ken Heslip, rigged by Mark Skodacek, modified, textured, feathered by me. it's not finished. My intent with doing a sequence of short hopefully humorous vignettes is to develop & loosen up my animation style, and get a better grasp on short (1-5 minute) story telling via pantomime, o…

So, I just finished a banzai weekend doing the 48hr film project. Among other things (I was the DP) it was my job to do the credit sequence. The trick was that although I was allowed to create objects and images ahead of time, the animation all had to be completed within the 48 hrs. In fact, because I was DP, and due to the nature of the project, I actually had to create them Sunday morning. My solution was to do a credit sequence that required very little keyframing and used simcloth to do the hard labor. I am attaching the final sequence and the project (minus images) ready to simulate. I thought this came out pretty cool. endcred_low.mov credit_sequence.…

Just an experiment ... but OK, I made a Dome model, and applied a material to it, I even applied a decal on to it and placed it in a Cho. with the camera positioned inside of it. In the Cho., in Camera view, it seems like I have things set up all right but, when I do a render all I get is a blue color where the render should be. I also tried setting the background color in the camera properties to other colors but that does not change anything either. How can I get a rendered look of what the camera is pointing at ? Just not obvious to me. AM-14C Thanks Creating_a_Mood.prj.txt

Hi guys. Here is a small project I am working on inbetween other projects. I used my own hand as referance as I thought that coud be quite handy (bad pun intended). Hello - just finished up a 12 1/2 minutes long Crown Moulding installation video. It came out pretty good - it was pretty technical because I had to create a tape measure with accurate measurement througout the room, drill screws in, cut the moulding on a saw, apply spacking and sand it off. It was fun, but seemed to go on forever. ;-) Anyway, it's on my site if anyone wants to take a look at it - www.flashanimationwebsitedesign.com - on the lower middle section - "2D and 3D Flash Demonstrations. It's button "06" - 6th sample on the row. - Eric

Did some experimantation with Image based ligthing and an HDRI picture along the line of Stians Tutorial. Managed to get an effect from the enviroment map on the big sphere to be visible on the vehicles. But what amazes me is: There is no visible difference, when in the chor properties I additionally activate the HDRI image or if I keep the default set to no picture at all. ( See pictures A and B ) So, what does the property there do? building_probe.zip

Hi all, Thanks again to those that helped trouble shoot the problems I was having with the shaders the other day. Now that it's working I was able to find time tonight to tweak some settings and get it MUCH closer to the look I was going for. Some of you may remember this model from a few years ago when I first created it, I'm really excited to be getting back into working with it again. Below is a screen shot of the new and MUCH improved look. Let me know what you think! I've also included a wire frame shot as well. Now for a little more trouble shooting, it looks as though I have a strange thing happening with one of the guide hairs. You can see …

Hello ! I have found a new idea to get me going. I got my inspiration from the halls at my highschool. Here is where I am at now: 5pass 27min Im experimenting with lighting right now. The modeling is pretty much done as well. For texturing and shading I plan to use a lot of decals and one or two procedural shaders. I want the floor to have a slight bump to it and it to be reflective and very specular. The doors are wood, and the lockers peeling painted metal. The other walls are going to be a dry wall esq texture. Photoman

A few years ago I setup a car suspension rig using surface constraints. The tires were driven by expressions with a use of a bones translation (had some issues, but fixed now). As the model moves along a path, the tires will rotate according to speed and direction. The setup consists of a blank driver pose. The bone that spins the tires and the path ease are driven by the driver pose, with expressions in the chor. The steering of the tires are also driven by a second path consraint of a target bone. truck3.mov

I'm working on a flying robot model for a friend's movie. I have a model that has been rendering in Shaded mode in the model window without issue. I see the colors assigned and decals applied. I was in Bones Mode and was picking points for a bone. I then exited to Modeling Mode and have lost the expected Shaded functionality. I mean, I see the object shaded, but no decals, but the render is very dark and the light for the rendered view appears to be from below. 1. Does not reproduce w/ another model that I created. 2. Appears to be localized to the actual model data! I reopend the .mdl into a new project and observed the problem. 3. Restarted AM…

I am creating a basic male model for future modification and reference. It is also a possiblility that I will use this for an advertisement for a medical company and they want a basic model that can demonstrate the medical device that they are making. I have started on the face and have it shaped pretty well but it still needs a lot of tweaking. Please let me know how I can improve it. I have included 3 pictures of the face below. Thanks helping out!

I've decided to learn Actionscript over Christmas break this year, so I thought it would be fun to try some 3D stuff. This is what I have so far: - System to render out nodes, edges, and polygons - Basic control system (rotate, zoom, and move camera) - Java "converter" which takes a .mdl file and converts it to a custom formatted text file - Actionscript importer which imports the data from the text file and constructs a model from it I attached a picture of the model in AM, here's the same model in flash: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/engine.htm Current issues: - It runs pretty slowly. Ok this will show my limited knowledge of AM and animating with AM. Some of the models for the short I am working on have 2500 patches all the way to 5500. There will be up to 7 characters in a scene at a time. There will also be a city scene with several buildings most of the items will be props as it were but still I can see a large patch count in the chor. So my questions are as follows. In other programs you can render layers at a time. Does AM have that capablility? For example, as the girls walks down the street she will only interact with the sidewalk and street with her shadows. can she be rendered from the chor and then other elements rendered seperate…

Is there a plugin or add on that allows you to print the PWS and its contents? For example I have a character with several decals and maps and settings that I would like to save in print form. I am saving all this information to prevent data loss. I have backups on several machines and back up drives but I am old fashion and would love to create a notebook with all the characters and sets and props information. Steve

Just found a great flight-sim game called "OVER FLANDERS FIELDS". So I've been hanging out on their Forum, flying and soaking my head in WWI lore. With A:M at my fingertips, I had to try a few planes. Here's the Fokker D.VIII. Some accounts claim this successor to the justly famed Fokker D.VII was unresponsive to the controls and under-powered due to the Oberusel rotary engine. [Fokker Triplanes shared that engine and problem] Other accounts say that if the war had lasted longer, the D.VIII would have emerged as the deadliest fighter of either side. It suffered from construction problems at first. Fokker's normally high standards had eroded, [he also contracted out a lot …

So this is the first time I've done an animated logo with AM. Turned out pretty good. The company sells Kettlebells which are used for building muscles. For those of you who don't know, muscles are things in your body that are slowly shriveling up as you sit in front of the computer for hours and hours with out moving anything buy your hands and fingers.
