As I seem to jump from project to project, and test to test, some things seem to progress very slowly. I have decided to use just one thread to post most of my WIPs and tests that I find interesting or require some criticism. So here are a couple of recent tests: First a clip produced while testing AO in A:M 14: GroupTest_A00d.mov mp4 version: GroupTest_A00d.mp4 This next one was produced from an action being used to tweak the weighting on the caveman: BusyTest__FunA03b__A00d.mov mp4 version: BusyTest__FunA03b__A00d.mp4

I've had A:M for over a year now, but have only had the time to use it a handful of times and haven't done any animation with it at all and I think it's about time I do. So, here's a little peak at something I'm just getting started on. C0mments and critiques are very appreciated. I'll be learning as I go.

Hello, This my first time posting. I've read for years and decided to jump in and get my feet wet. I'm not new with AM just new at posting.I started with v8.5 and have updated to v14. In the WIP stills in the gallery I've posted 5 stills from a project I've been working on for 8 months, "Alien Invasion" It's about a alien named Martin who travels to Earth to learn. He incounters a lot of trouble especially from the INS. I hope to complete it by some time next spring. Comments on the stills would be appreciated (Positive or negative Welcome) Camillo

My entry in last night's animation showdown. The topic was catching something heavy. (QT Sorenson3 140kb) I spent a long time trying to get the double take to work and never really got it. Still lots of room for A:M people to try this showdown out. It's usually on wednesdays at digitalrendering.com. Ya can't say you don't have time... ya don't get much! The entry always needs to be in divx, does that lock out the Macs?

I'm finishing cutting the scenes, I hope I can add later on some english subtitel... I hope it goes online in a few days, here some nice screenshots cheers

I thought that it was time I posted something more substantial so here's a still from my new short "12". I can't say enough about Skycast and how much it has helped me so far with this project - the ambient light effect here is created entirely with that rig and it not only looks sweet, rendering it doesn't take an age either. Thanks to those who've helped out on the screw heads - I ended up using what I'd already built as skycast is very forgiving when it comes to minor flaws in patches. Did I say that it was rather good? There is still a bit of texturing work to do, but I've made good ground with the animation. I'm working to release the first epis…

Hi - I recently picked up a couple of 3D jobs, and wanted to thank everyone who answered my several posts to help get the projects completed, your time and help is much appreciated. I was also inspired by Rascular to put together a business website seperate from my website design business for 3D animated characters. Any comments about the site to improve it bad or good would be appreciated. http://www.3dcharacteranimation.biz/ Thank again - Eric

Hi - just finished up the dinosaur project - wanted to thank everyone for all my answered posts about materials. I had no experience w/ materials and decided to do a practice project to get some experience with working with them. I used materials on the dinosaur and the scene for the short animation I put him in. Any suggestions or anything you notice I could have done differently or better, please let me know - Thanks - Eric The dinosaur is the first character on the second row www.3dcharacteranimation.biz

http://www.artboxanimation.com/AmStuff/Demo3d.html Intro for the flash animation project I've been working on for the last week. I used kci's am2swf plugin and it worked pretty much flawlessly. AM's animation tools made it a snap to animate quickly, and the rest of the presentation is looking(bad pun)pretty flash Just thought I'd share.

Here's an WIP snapshot of the mascot that I am working on for my own website. I sitll nee to put bones in him, so I could animate him. But I don't have good enough understanding of constrains and cloth dynamic, so I have a work cut out for me still. I am sure it will be a great learning experience. If you have any tip, I greatly appreciate it. Here's the original 2D designs

I've been organising my backups and I found these old very simple models. In 9.5 I had to toon render them(there was no time for texturing) but I added them into a 10.5 chor and added a skycast light, and I thought the result wasn't bad. Each of the characters was modelled and rigged in 4 hours. The geometry is very light as I had no tiime for adding intermediate bones or smartskinning(they were animated).

Hot on the heels of showing everyone the first half of my first Bella Bear flick 'Spaceship' I decided to reveal the first half of the other two stories I have done even if they are only in storyboard format. So if your interested pop along to the Bella Bear Website and checkout 'Cakeshop' and 'Peg's Mansion'. One day I might even get around to animating these stories, probably by the time I reach 90-odd! But then again I might just win the lottery and can hire people to help me. Please, please, please... The Bella Bear Website

This was a landscape I did while working on a modeling method for tree's I was rather proud of the lighting as things like lighting and texturing aren't my strong points. The tree modelling method was from a tutorial. Unfotunately I can't remember the name of the person who wrote it. I would appreciate any feedback you have. I know the image isn't really complicated or anything I tend to very simple scenes in my work. But I thought the ambience in this one was perfect for what I was going for.

I tried the best to render out all the clips seperately and sync them in Sony Vegas Pro. yes, it turned out okay, some of the animations are looped in the video, obviously for times sake. It was for a final project at Clark College. This one went well, I have plans on making more, but since I'll have more time on my hands, I think I'm going to go a different rout . PS... Syncing all of the audio clips in A:M was more time consuming than the animating, but dayum was it worth it! Let me know what you think for my first long term attempt!

Hello all, I'm new to the forums. I've been on the mailing list, but I've never posted much, because i've never really like the mailing list setup. But now that there is a Forum... I Figure I will just point you all over to my website, where you can see some of my work done with A:M 8.5 - Wonderful software! www.direentech.com/jdgraphics Feel free to comment on anything you see there, I love feedback and will take it good or bad. Oh, and just to get a show of hands (figuritively speaking) how many of you are members of the 10secondclub?

This is not really a "wip", it's more of a "w-asap". My entry in yesterday's Animation Showdown at digitalrendering.com. where_is_it_320.mov (270K QT Sorenson 3) Basically, you get four hours to animate, render and submit a character animation on the assigned theme. This time the deal was "Where Did I Put That?" My attempt is not fab, but some of the entries often are knockouts. It's also fun to see how others interpret the topic. Showdowns happen every wednesday. If you've got your character (or Thom) rigged, and can think/work fast you must give it a try.

When I was 8-11 years old, I used to purchase Sonic the Hedgehog comic books every month. I picked one of them up recently, and realized that even though 99% of the comic was extremely dorky, there was one character that stood out. In a certain issue, Sonic was Mechanized by the evil Doctor Robotnik, and this new Mecha-Sonic actually looked pretty badass. Has anyone else seen this guy? I decided to start building him, but I'm having troubles with his head - those strange big pokey things on the back are inconsistent in almost every frame, yet they seem to have some order to them. I can't quite figure them out. Here's what I got so far: It…

My office is going to be relocating soon, and my boss asked if I could help draft some preliminary plans to give to the architects. I used A:M to lay it out, rendering out a slice of the walls in wireframe mode for the paper plans, then modeled like a monkey on crack over the weekend to put in some "set dressing": Click the thumbnails for larger versions. Sadly, I ran out of time and only got about a third of the way through making the props for the office area, so I won't be posting those until I've finished them. (At which point I'll render with soft shadows, as well...) Still, I was happy enough with them, and they did highlight some problems with…

Here is my first try at modelling one of my own concepts. It's supposed to be quite stylised which is why it looks a little like a rat with small ears. I need a little advice on the best way to model a mouth into my head. I have tried modelling the lower jaw separately and then joining it but I end up with some nasty peaks. I don't want to play around with the gammas too much as it will eventually be a dancing bear (that sings a little) and i don't want any unpredictable motion. Anyway, I know that it's not much so far, but here it is.

A 32lb carronade to be exact. As would have been found on a 17th/18th century sailing vessel. Specifically the USS Constitution. This is truly my first solid attempt at modelling, animating, skinning etc. I have played around some with 3ds max but never really gotten into it. Because of the all encompasing nature of this software, it makes it more fun. The model is not quite compete, there is an elevation screw which adjusts the elevation +/-10 degrees, and a carriage of sorts that belongs on the back which allows a limited amount of horizontal motion. Plus some small details. I need some feedback. I know my materials are horrid and the bevelling leaves …

Hullo I've been modelling a BMW Z4. The front is almost done. I'm rather excited because this is the first time I've been able to actually model something that looks like it is supposed to! **creases in the middle because its just a copy/flip job (Im using the Rooftop Mayhem scene because i like the lighting and i'm lazy.) (ignore the stuff inside the headlight hole) Here's a reference picture i'm using: Any comments?

Here's a model I've been working on for the past week, nearly finished. It's a member of the "Great Race", from The Shadow Out of Time by HP Lovecraft (my wife has ceremoniously named it "Lemon Head"). Click here for a short animation test (1.45 MB MPEG-1 with sound). The walk cycle (slither cycle?) needs a little work, and the head neads a little more detail, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. During the process of rigging this model, I have arrived at the conclusion that tentacles are a pain in the ass, but dynamic constraints kick ass.

It seems that the only way to get a Bulb light is to change the Rim Light [ in Objects folder] from spotlight to bulb. But I found that it changes all the Rim light types in a Project, and in all Choreographies. Is it possible to have Spot Rims and Bulb Rims at the same time?

I know that questions like this pop up often, but... Is there a kind soul out there that would be willing to put together a medium-quality Yugo Koral (Tempo) car model? (photos) It would have to be medium-to-high quality on the inside, medium-to-low quality on the inside. The interior in the back seat would only need to be low-quality. I would take care of the texturing myself (with the aid of well-labeled groups, and many of them). Quality-wise, it has to hold up to a live background (shot on DV) in which it is mainly seen from the front in close-up, with some medium and long shots of the rest. I am using it in a short film I am working on for schoo…

Hi, Would love some feedback on this character, good or bad. Especially on what to do with the clothes. I was planning to have some loose fitting clothes, but haven't come up with a design for them yet. Oh, and sorry about all the grain, bloom and blur, I just had to play around with those. Ragnar p.s.
