-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I did a search in the foums here for "fatguy" to get the fatguy model I saw in the video tutorials, found where I could download him from (ftp://ftp.hash.com/pub/Data/HASH2001/Data/Models/Actors/FatGuy/) However, whern I try to import him, it appears to load ok although the object in the PWS as no name. But there are named groups, bones, etc... However, when I try to open the model in a modeling window, I get the following error using A:M 2006 v13.0e...

While fumbling around with posebuilding I found that I sometimes wanted to remove certain manipulations just at a certain time, for instance some musclemanipulation of some cps just on a certain percentage . Is this possible somehow? cant find a keyframe somehow , that I could delete or are these keyframes in poses hidden somewhere deep under the "hood" ? That would mean to start all over again with a new pose, each time I would do some minor missmanipulation....

I can't find the serial number for my software. I opened the software the other day when I got it in the mail before I discovered I couldn't use it until I got this computer. I looked through the manual and the CD's and looked on the box, but I didn't see it anywhere. I tried calling for support, but apparently I couldn't get a person on the phone. Do I need to email them to ask for my serial number, or is it with the software somewhere?

Hi! I'm good at a number of things in A:M. Materials is not one of them. Does anyone have access to a good Army-type camouflage material or have good instructions on how to create a convincing one using the Material plug-ins? There's an old post with a material that has "extended" .trb files, but when I put them in my plug-in folders, A:M says it can't load them. Any help would be appreciated. Tim

So I am going through all my "pre-flight" checks (so to speak) before starting trying to animate with this thing. I was looking at the bones that make up the spine and were a little concerned that they all seemed to be rotated just a few degrees off-center of the y-axis. Is this cause for concern? I have managed to get them more or less squared up, except for one. It still looks a little off to me. I took a screen grab looking up from the bottom. The pelvis and first spine bone look absolutely square, the 2nd spine bone and head look like they are still off a little bit.

Although I'm not exactly a new user, I think these questions fit in here nicely. 1. When a cp is selected and the turn manipulator is used in conjunction with the Ctrl key, the rotation is constrained to the vertical (I think it's the vertical). Is there another key to constrain a turn in the horizontal? 2. Is it possible to make and apply a cookie cut decal to a single patch, where the decal is smaller than the circumference of the patch, without making the edges that are outside the decal disappear? So far I have been unable to do that, but it may be the way I am making the decal with alpha and all. So far, when I apply a decal like that, say just a simpl…

I made a very simple model, and created a walk cycle for it. Now when I put the model on a path, and try to increase the time is walks the path, the model completes one walk cycle and freezes, but glides through the path. Any ideas anyone?

I heard a long time ago of a property or something called boolean cutter (if I can remember) which allowed a model to cut another becoming invisible itself. It would mean that you can model a wall, then intersect a cube in it and, by using this boolean cutter, make the cube invisible but leaving a hole of this cube's size in the wall. If I can remember, this hole would be patched too. I mean that it would look like if you had modelled this hole in the wall previously. I'm interested in using this property for animation. I,ve modelled a simple object and I'm interested in using another object with this boolean cutter option as a mask in the same way as masks are used …

I've just started getting back into Animation:Master after a long absence and I've got a question about the way the various render modes display splines. In the wireframe view a 3 point spline looks nice and smoothly curved, but when I change to shaded & wireframe mode it looks like its made up of four straight line segments (2 between each control point.) When I recreate the "F" and "G" patch examples in Jeff Cantin's Basic Splinemanship tutorial the patch form looks like a six sided polygon rather than a curved spline. When I render it looks fine but the shaded mode display is very jagged. Is this normal display behavior or do I need to change something to g…

Hi everybody. I just installed A:M to one of my PC's at home and now I realize that was not the best place to install it. How do I transfer the program to another PC? Do I uninstall on the old and just install on the new with the existing password? Of do I have to get Hash to deactivate the old password and get a new one? Thanks for your help. Cheers! Calvin

Ok, so I've just modeled half of my head, but when I select it as a group and select copy/flip/attach, it flips it along the wrong axis everytime so that it connects the left half of my head nose to nose! How do you decide which direction to copy? I'm using AM v13 Alpha, and my help topics won't start, but I'm sure there is an easy explanation for this... Thanks! -Tim

Along with my ongoing problem of Foot Targets drifting away from the mesh, I now seem to have Control Ponits permanently affixed to some point in space. I've examined the model in the Action window. All points are colored and all seem to be assigned to a bone. There are no rogue, uncolored points. So what are these guys hanging on to?[attachmentid=14755]

Are there any good tutorials that will help me learn to animate??? (Besides the ones in TAO:AM) What confuses me the most is the keyframes!! I do not understand them at all. For instance, how would you make something move really slow, then, make that object suddenly move fast. Everytime I ask this question, a person always mentions that it depends on the timing. Is this true? How do you even set the timing?

Hi - this is my first stab at putting decals on a character for color variations. I keep getting this small oranage square on the frog's neck. I have reapplied the orange to the hand about 4 times - even hiding all mesh but the hands when I am decaling it - and I am still getting the orange square - any ideas what I am doing wrong? Also, any suggestions or comments on the decaling itself that might make it look better would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric

I've made a small model and made 4 second movie with it. I need to shorten it by about a second or so, (actually speed up the action) but the place where I need to make the adjustments is in the first half of the movie. It's short enough to just redo, but I figured that this may be an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of some of the "mechanics" of A:M Thank You in advance for any insight. Myron

ok Looking at two models from the lib. Gala and Lady Goodbody I noticed the Lady Goodbody has no 'simcloth' or materials that make her dress work yet it does when you do an action so how is this done without deflectors or simcloth? or am I just missing it some where?

My computer is a P4 2.6 GHz with 512 MByte RAM, ATI 9000 Pro video card with 128 MByte RAM, Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest service packs and patches. All drivers are up to date. I am working on a WIP project using Schlitzy. What I am finding is that A:M seems to be getting slower and slower as more objects are added to the project. I am now at the point where I would like to start animating Schlitzy in a chor. The response time between mouse click and something happening on the screen is better than a second. I have tried creating a new project with only Schlitzy and the main objects of the scene, but response time is still pretty slow. Does anyone ha…

Hey everyone, Been working on a model of Kisuke Urahara from Bleach for the past couple weeks and so far, I'm liking what I've got. However now I'm on the task of dressing the man and it dawned on me that the more robe-style attire of his 'wannabe kimono top' is a little more complicated to work with than I anticipated. So I wanted to know if anyone had any good suggestions on modelling that sort of thing. I went ahead and attached my reference image if anyone needs an idea of what I'm working on. Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing from you guys soon.

G'day fellow AM users, hope we're all well... Just a quick question from a new animating loving brother down under. I've done all the tutorials with some success and a whole lotta fun! But now I am trying out a short animation of my own and have run into a strange thing that I am wondering how to get around. Now, here's where I need some advice guys and girls of AM. I now at 6 frames latter wish to alter "kid"'s foot so he appears to finish the walk at a standstill. I go into the nulls …

I am trying to work on my modeling skills to bring them up a bit and decided to create a red eyes tree frog character and had a couple of questions about the materials I placed on him. Hey all, I'm actually not a newbie at A:M.....But certainly new at this I want to use a DWG file from Auto Cad 2007. I tried to convert it in another app to a DXF then import the DXF to HASH.....But as you guessed it gave me nothing but "0" vertices and surfaces....Or something like that. Is there a way to convert a DWG straight into Hash....Plugin or something? Or a way to get this to work at all. The DXF doesn't seem to work. Kevin

Hey, I wanted to see what my living room would look like with a wood floor. I built the walls, and now I'm working on the floor, and thinking of my options: 1. Make a large decal in Photoshop by copying a sample of floor I found on line 2. Putting a decal or material on one board, and keep coping that board until I have a finished floor (I'm thinking that will kill my render times 3? Am I missing another option? (I tried the duplicator plug in, but it won't copy the decal. Any ideas?

Hello. First of all I like to thank SlipingLizard; KenH; rossk; DarkLimit; UGP; Dhar and Rodney for helping me out so far. I am getting better avoiding those folds and creases. I have modelled the head the arm and leg. Now arrived at the foot I have another question. Can anyone suggest how best to model the foot of this baby? The bottom rim of the leg has 6 control points. How do I connect them with the 5 toes and the heal of the foot? The baby should have a plastic sort of look, so the toes don’t need much reality details. I thought that I might could join up some spheres as toes!? What is in your opinion the best way of finishing the foot? Thanx, in the hope…

I've searched through the forums and found some great tutorials on flattening models for decal preparation. I have had some success using this technique, but am not sure how to proceed with a particular model. The tutorials that I found deal mainly with the face, and not the whole head. Can someone explain or point me in the right direction on how to flatten an object like a pair of pants for decalling? Is it possible to flatten the pants so that both the front and back of the pants are visible at the same time? I took time out from the exercises to read the help files start to finish, and now that I'm marginally less confused than before I restarted the exercises. What, I wonder, is this huge circular geometric thing that overlays the Choreography window called a Rim? I moved it here, then there, then did some fairly dramatic moves with it and it seems not to affect a thing. I suspect it's a lighting thing but just how and where the two are connected escapes me.
