Hello all, it is with Great Pride and Joy that I announce the final version of Duck Sauce ("A Mystery that Squeaks") is now available on A:M Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=895 [Mod edit: the above AMFilm link no longer works but I believe this version on Vimeo is the same film...] If you don't know the background already, Duck Sauce was produced as part of the 48 Hour Film Project, in which filmmakers, given a genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue, produce a complete short film, from writing to post-production, over one weekend. This version, though the writing and voices remain the same, conta…

This is my latest short, AEsop's Council of Mice. Bill Plympton's "Guard Dog" beat me at the Woods Hole Film Festival this summer, but I guess I can live with that. I had won Woods Hole last year, with "Marboxian," and was obviously hoping for a repeat performance. Now that I'm finally into my new place (though still living out of boxes), I need to get the DVD together and get this one out to more festivals. Go watch it! I don't think it's bad. ART STUFF: The severely crunched color palette was ripped shamelessly from "Avalon," a live-action/CGI film from the director of "Ghost in the Shell." Crunching your color palette, as that film and its later-…

Hey- Inspired by Joe Williamson's Hunter, I have been trying to get the Dynamic Constraints to work on some parts of my model. Hash has a nice simple tutorial in the online reference but the menu is different from the menu I get in my A:M v11.0o... (see attached illustration for clarity) I am trying to get the 'stiffness' control to work-Can anyone set me astraight on this? BTW- I would have posted this in the general A:M forum, but I see they do not allow attachments there.

Trying to understand V11 hair so I am playing with settings to see what they control. Under Dynamic options, once it is turned on, is angle limit which can vary from 180 to 0. The qt below which is only 30 frames shows what happens to some hair when only the angle limit changes. Hope this is useful. Oh it starts at 180 and goes to 0 when there hair rises the most anglelimit.mov

I've been playing with the Osprey tutorial from JohnArtbox and am pretty happy with my progress. I still am driving myself batty with getting the lighting that I want (trust me, it's more difficult than lighting a real set!). Of course, the requisite checkered floor has to make an appearance, although I'd like to have a better handle on materials to generate a grungier texture for the floor. I'm experimenting with decals as I can whip up terriffic textures in photoshop, but as for my ability to get them into A:M, well, I'm still in the embryonic stage there. This attached picture is about the 15th generation of the project (thanks to John for some of the models, as w…

Hello fellow Hashers. My name is Adam, (AKA LordPython), and this is my first post. A little about me: Age: 25 Location: Ga 3D History: Started learning 3DS Max, and Maya 4.5. However learning by my self from books was taking too long. I have seen A:M down at Dragon*Con every year for the past 4 years and I would always stop by their demo and watch. Every time I would think "It would really be cool to have that" but then I would move on. Well this past *Con I finally said "ah what the heck, I could really use it" and got it. That was 7 days ago, and I now happily present to all of you, my first unassisted animation. Although it's only 4 seconds long,…

Okay people... here's my dilemma(s)..... 1) I can't grasp the whole "decal" thing at all. Just don't get it. Is there any straight forward tutorial that shows a complete idiot how to do it from scratch? 2) I would love to show you my recent work in the WIP room, but I am not sure of which format to use, nor am I sure how to save just the MODEL and not the whole project.... A;M doesnt seem to let me choose the .mdl ending. 3) Any ideas on how to bone a UFO Saucer style with the bottom that open straight down.... without swaying back or forth, as if it were connected to a piston in the center? This would be alot easier to show you if I knew how to upload imag…

Someone was looking for a cheap music program. I found at a used bookstore a program by MAGIX called techno music maker and if I remember right there were other version for other types of music. Anyway you can drop in drums melody and other loops and even produce video effects including in this case a couple of dancers ( I used one) and background effects and I paid a whopping $6.00 Anyway I made a wave file and a video file and got this example using Shaggy and a layer. The animation is bad did about every 10-15 frame poses just to post this sample but if you need a cheap way to produce in this case techno music well look around for something by Ma…

Inspired by the short animation by matricks (and follow up film by Xtaz) I made my first kamikaze run at animation. Learned a lot in the process , such as how difficult it is to create convincing motion as well as how obsessive/addictive this sort of activity can be. Fun Stuff!!! I don't have a website to post the quicktime but here are a few pics to give some account of my efforts: Pics2.zip

I had tons of extra time tonight so I decided to finish up my Droid Starfighter, which is to be used int he first action scene from Clone Commander. I used Color, Bump and Reflectivity maps, but I had to use progressive render b/c for some reason, it freezes when I do normal render. Critique is welcome, although we won't be getting this close to it in the finished film.

Ok by no means is this stuff cream of the crop or really original, but I thought I'd post 2 renders I did in AM. I had a VHS concert tape laying around for a band called 'god lives underwater' which had a mantis as their logo. So I put together 2 renders involving a mantis model I had been working on for a little while. The 3d mantis was done in AM and the sequence was put together in Vegas Video 5. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Gv2.wmv This whole render was done entirely in AM. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Mantis.wmv I got the idea from the person who posted the clip of a animated monkey watching a video of his daughter o…

I want to see more of your work 30 minutes. Who said a film should take 20 years and never get done. He proved that theory wrong. Great job to whoemever made this animation

OK. Givin' up on the cape for now. It's just NOT in the cards for a long haired character...not in motion anyway. My cape had 3 layers of dynamic chains, and looked a LOT more active in the app than it does after render, what happens to all that cool secondary motion? I'll post my test in the WIP forum because this one will not allow attachments. Basicly, I rendered it 2 ways: WITH collision detection and WITHOUT. With CD the cape bounced off the hair repeatedly and sprang and recoiled furiosly out of control. Without CD, as in this test post, the hair simply passes thru the cape. An interesting side note: I saw 'THE INCREDIBLES' last night. They sort of co…

Someone emailed me who had heard I did Star Wars models for A:M, and wanted me to make a Naboo for their fanfilm. I'd done planets before so I agreed. Tell me what you think before I send it to him. By the way, it's a sphere with a green planet map on it with a high blue ambiance, inside a sphere using a transparency map that is the color white.

Hi everyone, It has been a quite a while since I've posted anything here! I have finished a glider design program that teaches the basic concepts behind flight. It comes with 10 pre designed gliders as well as materials for use with sci-projects. The 3D characters used to explain the games portion and the 3D gliders there were made with AM. The rest was done in a different program. you can view the program here: http://www.nc-games.com/glider.html Also I am doing a promotional where the first 10 people to respond will get the code to unlock the full glider program for free. As requested by Andy, Here is an example of making models for both spline and poly, you can have the best of both world if you are prepared for it. That means you have to find out the poly program you use is compatible when dealing with .OBJ, I use several and found that not all behave the same, so its trial and error. Below is a comparison of the two, first is the spline with no hooks nor 5 point patch, after decal and export in .OBJ then increase spline geometry and re-stamp.

Here is a new version of the animation I did for the Anzovin Studios' "Setup Machine 2" contest in November. It's basically a commercial showcasing The Setup Machine's rigging capabilities. Toward the end I added a front flip (with a full tuck) for a little extra pizzaz. It goes by fast to stay in sync with the timing of the jumps, so you may need to step through frame-by-frame to appreciate it fully. Lo Res (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 320x240, 1.1Mb) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/AnzovinContest2_LowRes.qt Enjoy!

This is one of the first thing I ever built in A:M a few years ago. I decided to revisit it after everyone was making rooms to use for Radiosity in the Radiosity Forum. Rendered with 6 Bulbs and 1 Klieg for the outside light. 25 Passes at 800 X 600 took about 3 hours and 13 minutes to render. I threw in the torso of my centaur that I made and gave him glowing red eyes. Although I am putting it in this forum, there may come a time that I decide to redo it again. Any comments are appreciated.

We don't all have broadband so may I politely suggest to people posting images directly into the forum messages that you take some steps in reducing the size of them - use thumbnails with links off to full size images somewhere else if necessary. And by size I mean keep them under 50kb. People like me just aren't going to sit around for 5 minutes waiting for the images to download! If I did I would never get through the forum posts! Cheers
