He has finally reached planet Bear? And being a brave soul decides to go exploring… However, the background seems to fuzz for the first three quarters of the flick but not the rest. I have a horrid feeling this is going to be a pain when going to final render. Ideas anyone? Do I need to use Multi-Pass on this one? Spaceship Landing

Here is a small picture of my UFO, although plane, it is just my beginning work. As you can tell by my name I am a newbie. I will put my alien model in here when I get to my own computer. The other model is of course Ed. If you would like to see my first short animation; [attachmentid=10034] This is my first short, it makes no sence, but it is a start. Here is a rig test for an alien model which is still very much in development: This test was done to test the shoulders and hips and includes a very extreme/impossible pose for the right arm. There is still much to tweak but it is getting there. The model is 1574 patches and is rigged with TSM2 plus my additional bones for the neck and intermediates. The feet have not been properly integrated yet.

I have a stone floor texture. I bring it in as a decal, but it has to be re-sized. I have a high contrast black & white version I want to used as a bump. How do I get them aligned? I've been struggling with them, and they have to be perfectly in sync or it looks like a red/green stereo image, seen without the glasses.

i started this project almost two years ago and didn´t do anything with it the last year, i´ve just had too much work. but i decided to pick up on it again and to actually finish it! i think posting this here on the forums as a wip might help getting it done, and with your crits and suggestions i´m sure i will get better results. first of all, here´s the story: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- scene01 (ca 90 sek) daylight shot. camera moves through the attic, slowly zooming in on the shoebox. the doll lies in the shoebox, surrounded by other toys …

Hey everyone, I'm pretty sure I haven't posted this before. (sorry if I have) Anyway, I completed a demo reel some time this summer. I was trying to get my foot in the door in animation, mostly I was targeting game shops. Never really got much response but I think a lot of that had to do with not having a broad enough application range (didn't want to uproot my wife) Swing by my site and check it out. All CG animation is done with A:M. The reel is also broken down into the individual clips for the bandwidth challenged Direct Link 6MG MPG -Alonso

So, part of the shoulder joint I had been using in cogs had a bone put in to move it off center when the arm moved. Now with expressions added to the software I wanted to give the joint another look and after almost putting my head through the wall over the math last week, I have gotten to testing this on some of my models that have gone by the wayside.... if you get a min, take a looksee..... Comparisons - tony's left shoulder is an unedited Cog joint and his right shoulder is this new joint i've been pursuing for a while.... Put it in the right elbow too.... sorenson3, 2mbs, but looks really compressed.... http://www.3dartz.com/WIPs/DCogs1.mov Mike F…

Started a project to test a working process. The narrative premise is a bit corny but, it was the working process I wanted to find out about. The basic idea is that the ingredients of a cake mix, indulge in a dance off before jumping in the bowl ready for mixing. What I wanted to do was to animate and render it in AM, but then work over the top in TVpaint so it looked hand drawn, in a cg setting, so as to get a mix of visual styles in the same piece of work. I've encountered some problems along the way but will cover them later. This was the first test, hand drawn, no references. decided it changed volume too much so needed to use AM to avoid that, Line Test 001.m…

All Mixed Up

I just started back up with A:M after my bump on the head. I'm modeling a mixer for an upcoming project. A simple thing. I "Photoshopped" out the fader nobs for a decal and will model the actual faders so they will slide with pose sliders. My challenge is this: I'd like to make the meter "lights" look like they are moving. For each meter light I'd like to use decals in series kind of like a GIF, with about 3 or 4 decals cycling, to make each meter look like the level is going up and down. Any ideas on the best way to go about this?

I'm trying to make headlights on a truck using two Rim lights. However, to work, they need to be Volumetric lights so I can see the projected light cones. From the moment I turned on 'Volumetric', they were out of sync. I cannot get the light on the left [our left] to throw a beam as far as the right. Last night the left looked more like a yellow plastic cone and the right had dark banding in it. Both are more well-behaved this morning. I'm looking for something like the light on the wall [streetlight] which, in itself, is was an adventure of chasing numbers. Seems even the size and shape of the Rim light has a huge difference on how the light projects. Is Volumetric…

I wasn't sure if this fits in radiosity or showcase, so i'm putting it in both (better than neither right?) The pop-bot and that amazing render Brian Prince did, inspired me to try some radiosity of my own. I don't think it's as good as theirs . . . but it's mine 32 lights for the sun, 15000 photons, max samples, 7hrs 40 min. Odd shadow thing i noticed with the shadow of the tree

Here's a look at a model I'm working on. The original sketches in the corner were done by my wife, she has a wonderful drawing style (I think, anyway), that's almost anime, but not quite. The head is coming along nicely, I think, but the areas on the body that concern me are the shoulder area next to the breast (I've highlighted it in red) where there are 4 five point patches in a row. Is this going to be a problem when the shoulder moves? and if so, what can I do to fix it? Also, is the butt going to cause me problems as is? Will I be able to fix them with some smartskinning? And how does it look so far to you? Thanks, Lazlo

I've got a simple scene with a central object receiving reflections from a dome that has an HDRI image applied via a projection map. It renders very nicely, but I want to use an alpha channel to composite the object into another scene without the dome background. I tried tga output with the alpha channel enabled, but the resultant alpha is the whole tga, not just the central object. What am I missing here?

Lately I'm getting a lot of garbage with Alpha's and Bump Maps. The artwork is clean. Regular decals go on as they should. Any thoughts? [the Albatros is an Alpha Channel, "iClapper" is a Bump.]

I just put these two clips together. I am trying to come up with a simple demonstration of Photoshop like image with an alpha channel and why people get those "fringies" and don't know or understand why. Let me know if this is getting the idea across at all... ...uh.. they were done in AM of course, with layers... except the titles... Fringies! AAAHHHHGGGG! YeeHaaa! No fringies! I plan to expand this into a larger, more in depth explanation. Vernon "!" Zehr

I've searched through the manuals looking for info on how to access Alpha Channels, but nobody says much more than it can be done. When I get the tanks going, I want several attack-choppers to sweep in shooting. I want motion blur on the rotors, but not in the whole scene. I figured to turn off everything in the scene, leaving only the turning blades, run the anim., then turn off the rotors, run again, and composite in Premier. But where do I go to get Alpha Channel mode?

Using V15J on an Imac with OSX 10.68 I am having trouble with the alpha channel on renders. This is a Jpg conversion of the TGA file rendered with the Alpha on This is the same frame ( again converted to jpg ) rendered with the alpha off. I rendered some exr sequences at the weekend with light buffers turned on but they are now turned off and the setting are 'normal' I have rendered out sequences with alpha included before and not had this problem, can anyone kindly suggest what the problem might be and how to correct it ? regards simon

Hello... I'm wondering if there's another tutorial somewhere that would be a good replacement for the giraffe tutorial in the AOA:M manual? Reason is, I'm getting a head-ache trying to discern, from the side view, where the leg on the "far side" ends and the one I'm supposed to be tracing starts.. it's all sorta just combined together.. Also, the tutorial sorta leaves out what I think is an important detail.. It instructs you to shape the neck from the top - but there's nothing really to shape it from. There is the top "seam" decal, but it doesn't have a head and I don't know how large to scale it to to make sure I'm not adjusting things too big or small.. …

I have a question that I have just begun to notice. I have applied ver 19j and now each time I save a project I have a new set of folders for each save. Each save has several sub folder. The main folder is titled the name of the project and then a series of numbers that I could not decode. Under the folder there are usually two folders. The first is a capital letter such as E with a dash, so E-. Its contents are then followed with another folder with the name of the project and its folder has the project file. The second main folder under the top is labeled the name of the pc such as Steve-PC. Under its folder are several folders. one has a listing the the…

Hello all, I have been a little slow in getting this post out. I have been REALLY busy. Many of you do not know me. I am not really very good at AM! I grew up on Lightwave but have always been amazed at the power and capabilities of AM since version 3, my first version. I saw it at SIGGRAPH but when I got home with it and tried to use it, I wanted to kill everyone! Needless to say documentation has been lacking for a while now! Anyway, I tried again at version 5. Same results.. so I continued doing my work in Lightwave and Maya. Then I got a wild hair and decided to try it again... version 11! Last year I produced and animated a direct to DVD project for Hasbro Ent…

I just finished a small presentation for the Wesley Mission. Their major symbol is the dove so I built a simple 3d dove as a unifying element. The project only had a two day turnaround, so I rendered it in realtime shaded mode and then used Mirage to add drop shadows. I also rendered the doves to load into Mirage's particle engine for the transitions. [attachmentid=18054] SOMVideo Unfortunately it's not streaming so it'll take a while to load (5mb), or you can right click and save the swf.

Hello all. I just stopped by to thank the Hash team for creating a great program. I've been using it for several years, but had never really stepped up to create something on my own. But, I finally have, and it's all thanks to AM. I have a dream that fits in nicely with the the whole ' one man, one laptop, kitchen table' idea and I have been working for the passed 3 or 4 months to fulfill that dream. Starting with a script and my laptop, I set out to create my film. So far I've completed 24 minutes and soon will compile a DVD. But for know, I'm completely satisfied in my endeavour. If anyone is interested, I have a trailer on my website at www.animace.biz. I've tried usi…

Hey folks, I'm a medical student at Case Western and after suffering through a neuroanatomy course at the beginning of this school year a programmer classmate and I decided to change the way the course was taught. For those of you lucky enough to have avoided this subject throughout your lives, a med school neuroanatomy course focuses on the spinal cord and brain locations of various groups of nerves that are functionally related. One of the big challenges is learning the clinical consequences of damage to these groups and how those consequences can change depending on where in the brain/brainstem/spine the damage occurs. Right now, the way the course is taught…

AM to the rescue the mission complete 5 narrative animations for Dango Tango a web series for they're Halloween season the first 4 where done in another 2d program in 2009 and they needed to have certain scenes redone without changing styles and going back to 2d would have delayed the whole thing so i turned to good ole AM for the ans. the short mov shows the success of that I rebuilt the first scene and made a seamless match to the second in a matter of hours ( the cut the to bird is the 2nd scene ) other scenes where then rebuilt in a similar manner ok so it's not pixar but thats the look number 5 was all AM ( decals made in another app th…

Okay, I did my VERY FIRST AO RENDER! Woohoo! Straight out of the box. It isn't fantastic but i get the idea. Now I want to know what the next level is. How would I for instance, use some kind of image for reflection? Is this delving into the HDRI concept? Radiosity? AO renders SO FAST, I don't want to get too complicated. Can I use just a simple dome with an image? Anyway, this sample image is from my ongoing animated short spoofing the terminator (not much activity in Vern's World so this is a tease looking for some help on AO. The link to this thread is in my signature) Just for grins I stripped out the lights, added a ground and back plane and just rendered i…

Amplitude creates a action for a model with a named pose in the example here the model is model1 the pose pose1 I used the secret wave file on the cd and it generated the action used here. The pose was to move the "mouth" of my elaborate model. I rendered a portion to show the results. If you have a model1 with a pose1 the action will drive the model to sync with the secret wave. [attachmentid=11827] [attachmentid=11828] Not sure is amplitude is still available was on amxchange which appears closed http://www.amxchange.com/ secret.zip secret.mov

Hey everyone, most of you who know me know that I have mostly been posting in the topic Super Mario Film, but now I feel less inspired to finish it. Lately I’ve been feeling more creative, and working on a project that was a spoof of nintendo’s super mario brothers didn’t feel right. So I decided to bring the project I had been working on before back to life. Three years ago I started having an idea for a show that featured 8 characters who lived near each other on an island, and they would do all kinds of stuff. Over the years I’ve come up with tons of funny ideas for the show and developed the characters so much that now they feel like a part of me, and it wou…
