This is a new character for me to learn and install the 3dArtz rig on. I took the rotos from an old 30's character "Tom" from "Tom and Jerry" (NOT the mouse and cat!) Anyway, I've really been struggling with the head. I redid some things based on Josh's suggestions but I have a couple of issues (aside from general tweaking needs). - Note the open 6-point patch. I'm at a loss how to finish this part of the face. It's the last hole in the face. - He looks like he has no chin! It's tricky getting a 2d into a 3d mode sometimes and he seems to be not translating super well (the head at least). Certainly part of this is my (lack of) skill. The hair is only I star…

Hi Guys! I practiced the animation principles in this animation on weekend. I applied squash and strech, anticipation, easy in-out, holding, spacing and timeing and etc.. Here is the little animation: Punch a ball I used Xvid codec for the movie's compressing. Cheers... Sharky

Hey Guys, I haven't posted in a while about Against The Author (I think), and I was just posting to say that it is going great. Can't wait for it to be released in Winter. Anyway, I just updated the site, Click Here to see it! It has a web chat page now (the first link on the inside page), please post any comments there, or just use it as a guestbook, thanks! I attached a quick snapshot of one of the basic scenes to this message...

Played with several variables without much improvement. The overlapping beams build up and give an unnatural bright area. What can be done to make it look better?

Actually, it's supposed to look like that... I went through Colin's tutorial, but I used front and side rotoscopes of two different women, one chinese, one japanese. (I wanted her to look asian, but of indeterminate origin). The only thing I'm not quite happy with is the ears, other than that this model went swimmingly. I'm still kind of new to A:M, I've had it for a couple of years, but I've been too wrapped up with a couple of other programs to learn, so I still have a lot to study, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thought some of you might like to see some more detail in my contest entry. Dandy DNA Mechanical Image contest entry. JPEG format. 2000x1366px 2mb Please check out the bubbles on the surface of the goop! That is my favorite part of the whole image! Goop bag detail Just a decal but it looks pretty goopy. I bet that stuff stinks! Anyone who has seen previous bags of goop know that I have been trying to use booleans to cut away the goop but leave the bag. This worked great. I used that technique on the two bags in the box. However I was not 100% satisfied with the final results. I wanted to simplify my project and add more detail to the surface …

Heres a new character that I am working on. The design is loosely based on Mark Allens drawing for his first character (Mark, since your rotos provided the inspiration you can have a copy of this head model if you wish - just drop me a line). I've been following along Anzovins Modelling a Head tute (just got past the eye and mouth parts - some good lessons there) This character will be a seargent (Space Marine) that may be used in the next image contest and June animation contest. I've got a lot of dirtying up to do As always, comments welcome. Cheers

Hi I am still trying to get my mechanical model into a pleasing composition and at the moment I am working on the terrain. I have been playing with different camera angles and depth of field. I particularly wanted to use D.O.F to help give some atmospheric perspective but my results are less than satisfactory. Here is an example with depth of field with just 4 passes:

Alright...I'm starting over and decided to model a jaguar..here's my problem-->I'm stuck at connecting these two holes...I tried making a five point patch as outlined but it created this HUGE crease...trust me..not even porcelain or bias values could help.. How should I arrange the CP set so it's "good"?

I finally got my 15-year old reel back from the guy who transformed it to a DVD-ROM AVI for me. Let me just say that upon further review - this isn't as good as I remember! Anyway, I promised I would post it so here it is. I did this in 1990 in my senior year at Columbia. I do remember it being a lot of work, the total time of actual animation is about 17 seconds, BUT much of it is reused/flipping cels and so forth to avoid doing too much work so the piece suffers from that. The actual animating of the duck is not too good either! But it was fun - and a lot of work - to do. In 15 years the film really suffered pretty bad. The color is all washed out and the…

Well, I drew these two views of my own little musclecar on a whim and decided to model it just for fun. Holy cow has this been hard. I think I have about 6 hours into it already. Been having lots of trouble figuring out the noseplate behind the headlights, but I think I have if figured. I need to totally redo it from what you see below but the concept is working. Man, some of these realistic 3d models of cars I've seen, I don't know how they do it. It's tricky to get precise measurements too. Here it is so far.

Some of you may have noticed my recent post announcing my 1st animation. The general consensus is that i should render it to quicktime using the sorenson codec. Please note that if I drop sound in A:M the final product is hosed by artifacts (a chirping sound) Is there a sorenson type codec that i can download that is free? Also I need another video editing prog. (free) that can drop sound in b4 quicktime because my current doenst even see quicktime movies. Ugh, the sad fact is the animation isn't worth bothering any of you but If i ever make one that is ill want to post in a user friendly way. Help, Please

I created a robot about, mmm, I say about a month ago. I've been finalizing him and I am almost finished except I need to add-subtract smart skin-bones around the arm. the rig is custom so that explains why he doesn't bend good around the arms. I want to know, however, what you think of him.

Well! Trying not only to have fun... animating. Have a look and listen. Your comments are welcome. In modern society people get burnedout also on vacations. Perhaps it is media... burning us out? We - six billion communicating by electric media - hypnotized most of us of media electrified. Not as the way we have lived for seven million years - in small groups - about a hundred of us in each group - smelling, hugging, boxing, feeling the one you are talking with, listening to. What I want to have is a background showing the noise eg. on a TV-screen. And hopefully not only black and white noise - but RGB-noise - Red, Green, Blue - noise. I have had a look on this: http://www.dotnet.se/aaver/Water/RainEffects/index.html made by the forum member aaver Perhaps that is the way to go? Making a noise-material. Someone having a noise-material to offer? Or some suggestions how to make " The-War-Of-The-Ants-Material"! I have had a try - rendering time is long so the rendering is short - rendering time also a problem - and it is not really the thing - but perhaps a start... Have a look at noise_media01.avi OK! There is also t…

Well, I foolishly decided to dress up my main character in a cloak, which means a whole lot of cloth animation. No way was I gonna do all that by hand. True, the new v.12 SimCloth is right around the corner, but realistic cloth movement is actually kinda distracting when it comes to cel-style animation. You never see Batman's knees poke around under his cape when he walks, y'know? I needed something real-looking, but simplified. I figured I could get a good side-to-side swing using Dynamic Constraints, and I elected to "cheat" the cloak outward a bit, just far enough so the legs wouldn't pass through it. Rigging the cloak took forever--56 bones arranged in a cyl…

Hi guys! Here are my last animations. The first is a "jump exercise". The focus of the animation is the jump, the rest of the animation I made it just for fun The second, is a little exercise of facial expression with the insect man that come included in the Justin Barret's CD tutorial. The animation is only 2 seconds, and only one word to make Lipsync, but I tried to make it the best I could. Jumping. Please Right Click And Save Target As... Jumping. this is my second WIP post, I trashed my old work as without a rotoscope, it's pretty darn hopeless for a newbie like myself to create a human. This time I decided to recreate my favourite Dragonball Z charracter: Vegeta. So the hunt for a rotoscope began! and the journey was long, but Google saved me arse once again (this is turning into a story, but what the heck!). I compared a few side(side views of drawn charracters are really rare, btw) and front pics and I used the ones...I used. and here it is, the start of Vegeta(I know the point is to post atleast almost completet models, but I really need some tips) so here goes:

I have made a short 30 second animation of a sack. Before this forum goes into a frenzie about the complicated logistics and lofty aspiration of doing such a monumental project, someone kindly answer me this. In Chor. I hit the play key and everything looks and SOUNDS fine. I render to file (avi format) vga resolution and when i play the final product ( in windows media player ) theres a chirp sound every second or so. any thoughts on this? Sorry for wandering out of the new Users Forum Tony

After many long, hard hours and very little sleep, I finally finished Creation Museum Montage for Answers in Genesis (AiG). This video opens with a 3D-animated logo sequence that I really like above all other logo animations that I've done. Until I get my credit card working again on SoundDogs.com, I can't buy the short version of the music for just the logo. So I'll post a high quality render of just the logo animation later. But for now, you can see the whole eight-minute video (40 MB QT) that I produced here. AiG plans to use this video at their Creation Museum fund-raising banquets (Creation Museum is being built by donations) as well as possible use as an i…

Ok, I got another new character I am working on. It's a different take on the merman. I have a simple color, gradient and Yves' Skin Shader apllied to the character. I will be adding fins to the forearms and webbing between the fingers. I would like to ask all of you if I should add anything else? What should it be, and where? I could also use some advise on texturing, since I am getting close to doing that. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.
