I tried to export a clean obj polygonmesh from an absolut symetrical patch model (A) and get strange ireggularities especially in the fivepointpatches. (see shoulders picture As the model is symetrical I would it expect to export with at least symetrical iregularities as well. How come and could this be avoided somehow?

OBJ.zip Correction:This only seems to work as stated, with "Poser" obj files. And after some fiddling, its actually more the same as with the 3ds/lwo problems - too much splinage to even mess with? I havent tried Exporting yet into LW or Poser. So Ill report back on export exploits? I did find some talk on the OBJ side of AM - http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24581 Ok. Now this is just something simple that I stumbled across for anyone wanting to convert the Popular OBJ format to AM (mdl). The sole purpose for this is for anyone who doesnt already know (newbies), and wants to do some modding of pre-existing work done with this popular format based …

During the last couple of weeks I have done some experiments with realistic Ocean Waves in Animation Master. For now there is only one image to watch, but I'm working on a short animation that I hope to be able to show in a day or two. (The image is rendered with the simplest possible environment. No sky sphere, one single sun light and a simple reflecting gradient material.) Click here, for more information on this (The page will be updateted as the "project" evolves.)

A brief test using SimCloth for Autumn leaves... YouTube version: BooH264.mov UPDATE... here is a shaded wireframe render of the full cloth simulation that takes place before the rendered portion above. Although "Show backfaces" is ON, the cloth patches only show their decal on one side in shaded mode. Not sure why. I've discovered a strange thing when using 5X multi-pass rendering with skylights in v12.0n+. As shown in the attached image I have two spheres in front of a flat shaded skydome. The first sphere has a diffuse colour of 128, 128 128 while the second is 255, 255, 255. The first pair of images shows a comparison of lighting the spheres with a single klieg and rendering an image with and without multi pass. As expected, no noticeable difference. However in the next image set, I turn off the klieg and turn on my 52 bulb skylights (a variation on one of Yves' setups). The first image shows the render with no multi-pass. The next five images are images after turn…

I'm doing a short with some references to nordic mythology and are at the moment working with a poster/promo image. As for one of the elements in the poster i created this cg-version of Oden. The textures still need some more work but I'm pretty happy with the 'evilness' of his appearance so I just wanted to share...

The file attached here shows the start and ending frames of a two-second clip of my alter-ego, Danbuster Cameronean Leadboot. He is posing for the camera in his own fun-loving crazy little way. It was intended for my avatar, though only a few frames now exist because of the limit. The wild blond hair is a hair emitter. I had to do it like that, because it was too difficult to accomplish fuzzy hair that sticks straight up using a mesh (as I have with my other models). The fur on the body was accomplished by using a fairly rough and low-scale bump map. The hair is the problem. In preview mode, it renders fully shaded. Here, in the rendered file, the first fr…

Hello, been a while, I recently used A:M to build a mockup of a networking proposal for a presentation in my networking protocols class. This was kind of a last minute thing which is why it's so unfinished. I don't really have a use for it since I'm done with that class so I figured I'd let 'yall have it. Background info: I used the models to go transparent to show the placement of the networking cables in the walls, it got a wow out of the class and a "overachiever" comment from a peer. total construction time: 4 days. machines used: Powermac G5 A:M v15, Xeon PC A:M v14. download: Office ~2.1MB a few images:

Hello - attached is a short dance animation test I've done in A:M for a music video to my song "Ol' Scratch". I know, I know . . . there are various aspects of the rigging and animation process which are, to be generous, flawed . . . but the spirit is there! In short, I really love this software and the creative and helpful people here on these forums. I am in awe of how intelligent, insightful, and quick to help all of you are - thank you! To rig my biped models I feel compelled to thank David Rogers for this brief tut: http://am-guide.com/SetUp/ My models still give me trouble in the "knee, elbow, and hip" joints, some of which could be allevi…

I took a break from rigging and made this old chisel today. A generic render. no radiosity The model has diffuse map set to color, a grayscale map set to diffuse, 2 spec maps, and a normal map. The spec maps I'm still working on as 3Dcoat and how AM renders them is different. 3Dcoats spec map will work, just have to tweak them some more.

Old Demo Reel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys, so in the process of updating my site and cleaning house in a computer sense of things, I came upon my old demo reel. Old in that I made it back in 2002 when I was interested in working in an animation studio. I probably should have just sent the thing into outerspace, as the results would have been the same. Now that I look back at it, it is no surpise as the reel isn't specifically geared towards one skill set. If I were to remake one today, I'd make it just about character rigging, with a slight emphasis on modelling.....But I thought that the…

I've been working on this for a few days in spare moments. Thanks to Agep for his help with the modeling. Here's a wire and render screenshot [attachmentid=14224] Here's a closeup in panavision resolution (cropped) [attachmentid=14225] I've had some difficulty with decaling >> look here Right now I have a bit too much specularity in the keys but it is a "new" typewriter, and I haven't aged it yet. Other critiques appreciated... though I am just beginning on this, so I know quite a bit more needs to be done... and help on the decaling issues at the link above would be helpful too.

Hello! I haven't posted in a long time...but I thought that my friends at Hash would like to see some old stuff that I recently revamped. The first you may remember from a while ago, but I recently went crazy in Photoshop and I think it turned out really well. The second is a newer one that I think turned out really well. The figure was done in A:M and then put onto the Photoshoped clouds. Tell me what you think![attachmentid=14353][attachmentid=14354]

Hi all. I recently started work on a new model. It's a very old and weathered knife with a wooden handle surrounded by a piece of leather. Just wondering if it looks anywhere near photorealistic (which i know it's not) and what i can do to improve it. Oh and, does anyone have any materials for leather? Hope you guys can help me out with this.

EDIT: This thread has been continued and expanded in the topic "The Mountain" Just thought I'd post a "thus-far" image of this old man I'm working on. Been really pouring myself into this one; waiting for my best friend's funeral today. All the same, this is something I'm getting pretty proud of. He is part of a short animated film I'm working on with my boyfriend tentatively titled "The Mountain"; it's a metaphor for the end of the journey of life, which he wrote. It includes evil bunnies as the symbol of earthly trials and desires (my idea). Man I hate bunnies. They are so evil. =) Anyhow, here he is...

I'm trying my first "real" rig and needless to say all is not well in 3D land. I am using the lite rig and am experimenting with the elbow joint as a starter. I've placed a fan bone, with cp weighting as follows: elbow ring nearest shoulder Bicep 75% forarm 25%, center ring 50/50, third ring 25/75. The elbow still deforms unkindly, and it doesn't seem like the fan bone is doing much of anything (it has a 50/50 orient like constraint to the bicep and forearm) Thoughts? Untitled.mov

So I'm slowly making headway with the main character model, Old Man Willies for the short that I hope to finish for a film festival next year. I'm taking baby steps, pushing my knowledge limits and trying to do things right with the models before even attempting to start on the animation. This is a blink test, really intended to see how the hair emitter behaved for the eyelashes. Seems ok. I still have to add hair to the lower eyelash, mustache and beard, then on to face textures and, and and.....

I've been inactive of late in the A:M world... new job has me going in other directions. But Friday was a 'hurry-up and wait' day- so I perused my A:M files and saw a model that I last worked on TEN YEARS ago(2003 with a SetupMachine V1 rig!)... so I revisited it... added some SSS, some matcaps, some FastAOgpu, a TrueBones motion capture action(offset on the different dancers) and let Youtube provide the music track... The poneytails are controlled by a pose that has muscle-motion sway in a 100 to -100%... then a bone parented to the head bone with a dynamic constraint... then a smartskin relationship on that bone that controls the pose by the rotation of the bone. …

As I said above: this is old news, hovewer I feel that some critiwue would be helpful (even negative critique) I have been very busy lately, so my animation which should include those two characters is in (God knows for how long) hiatus. So, I have decided to share those two with the community under condition that they would be not used for commercial purposes and that my name should be mentioned where ever they appear (more in the readme file). I will sent them as soon as I get confirmation that it is ok to post the textures (road and grass - which I have downloaded form David Gurrea's site (http://www.davegh.com/blade/davegh.htm). Hi guys - A few yrs ago me and a team was working on a video game for our portfolio.. The game is a first person shooter which did not get of the ground due to some problems with export between different programs amoung other things. But we were able to get some of the models into the engine. I was responsible for the environment and the villans (bad guys) also for texturing the entire game..... I was going through my old stuff and I found some of the old games mods that I modeled in A:M back in 2001.....I thought I would share them with you..... this shot is a basic model render of the mods, the very first concept of the mods..
