The project that I am working on requires alot of dynamic interaction between layers of cloth and hair so I have been testing these features recently. I decided to start a thread to show what I find and hopefully get some answers on the way. I don't know if there are any differences between Sim Cloth in A:M 13 and A:M 14 but I am testing both. This is a 2 second movie, from A:M 14 Beta 4, which shows that Sim Cloth on Sim Cloth is possible: The missing patches on frame 0 is an A:M 14 bug, I think. It always has a render problem on the first frame of the QT movies that I have rendered from Beta4. I have noticed that when I render to Sorenson 3 format fr…

Hi all I had posted these in the tutorial section and thought it might be wise to post them here for more feedback. This is a character I have created for a music video I am producing for an Indie recording artist out of Buffalo, NY. It is going to be a combination of 3D and 2D. Please let me know what you all think. Cheers! They were created with the great help of Barry (Bizzle) and his amazing A:M Training DVD Bundle. I just finished rigging him and I will be modifying the model into a lioness soon. Storyboard is nearly complete and will be going to the client this week. Enjoy!

Hi This is one of the first projects I did in 2000 with animation master. I am trying to get a reel together for my website and thought it would make a good intro. I did a new render of it with ao. You can see here the improvement in me and a:m over the years. I atached the old and new one. 3dfroglogoold.mov 3dfroglogonew.mov

Are there any SynthEyes users out there in NTSC land who are successfully exporting drop-frame camera tracks to A:M? I found it after successfully tracking a NASA animation of a flyover of the Victoria Crater on Mars (where the "Opportunity" rover is doing some digging). It seems that for drop frame footage, the frame times in the export from SE are all screwed up. It just seems odd that SE is the recommended tracker for A:M, and yet this doesn't appear to have been noticed. (I got into tracking after getting PF Hoe on the cover of Digit Magazine - it was OK I suppose, but SE is far more powerful. The footage above was a problem piece on their support forum…

I have been pretty quiet recently because I've been working hard on virtual me. I wanted to experiment with puppeting a realistic character, and I figured I was the best reference available. The model is not quite as elegantly splined as some of the other self portraits that have been posted recently, but my focus was on movement. So here's a first test at virtual me. There are still some tweaks to be made in both the motion and the model, but this is a promising start. Sorry it's so short, but I had to fit in the 2mb limit take20.mov

Hey folks. Just wanted to pop by, in case anyone was wondering where I'd gone, or heard I'd switched to another app, or something. Rest assured I'm still plugging away, spending my nights and weekends in A:M, bringing "Ebon" to life. Here's a new lipsync test, for example: Six-second clip (1.6MB): http://ebon.org/images/forForums/lipsync_shot11-1.mov There are a number of reasons why I haven't been around much lately--one of them is simply that I've been posting my work-in-progress details on my own production blog instead of here. Nothing personal, honest! It's all part of the publicity-building machinery, laying the groundwork for even more ambitio…

I think this is sufficiently different to warrant a new thread: [1] I'm installing a single bone that will move the same [left and right] plate on both treads. On a previous attempt, I installed the bone in the right hand tread plate, on the Z-axis. Some of the plates developed a twitch wherein the bone rotated 180 deg. and the left plate flopped over to the far right of the right plate. I suspect it was because of the oblique angle the bone occupied at the points where the plates moved over the major drive wheels at the front and back. [tho' I'm not certain] This time, I'm installing the bone along the X-axis. The question is: at the points where the plate move…

Hello, We have been busy and I didn't want to post too many WIPs, but I have a few more for you. These clips are just tests to see how the models hold up for animation/rendering. Of course we are rendering everything in HD720, but a few things have to be rendered smaller for testing- (especially those containing multiple volumetric lights). Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that the purpose of these clips are to show the models in lighting. There is one lipsync in there that is incomplete, because I didn't really want to go into simulating the cloth(It's all about the face/the arms are STIFF). Thankyou! Click on the pic! Here are links to the full res and reduced res versions of the logo intro animation... The Text and Fonts selected for the intro are temporary and we are deciding what the final font will be, but we are excited with the outcome of the winged skull. Hubukai (John Hubickey) rendered this monster out at full res (3 full days of rendering) and created the video files and is hosting the files! Without him there would be no Dark Skull Productions! (I suggest *right click>"save as"*) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (18.8MB) Quicktime (H264codec) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (6.71MB) Windows Media(WMV) Comments are welcome, but I doubt we are going to change much.…

I had modeled a simple tower to test out some tiling textures I made on photoshop. I started playing around with it, duplicating it, scaling it, and sticking them on, and I wound up with a really cool looking castle design. I decided to work it into a poster for my daughter's birthday. (I used to have a sound clip of her saying, "I'm the princess, in the tall, tall tower", hence the title and inspiration). The castle model is only a proxy right now. I'm going to replace it piece by piece with a more detailed model. The lighting and the background are final, for now. The lighting may get tweaked as I go along, and I may repaint the clouds in the BG, I'm not sure. …

I have three actions on a character in a chor but the last action inside the chor does not match the actual animation inside the action. It is one of a kid putting a flashlite on a chair and the flashlite is constrained to the left hand until it gets placed on the chair. In the chor the hand is in a different position after he lets go of the flashlite than it is in the action. How can I fix this?

Hello everyone, I reworked my May 07 "Toon" Image contest entry and am posting it here for your review. I made a few changes in Photoshop and I prefer this version over my contest entry. The model is my own original design of a transforming Fighter Plane/ Robot that is part of a short personal animation project that I am working on. The model is designed so that I don't need to swap models when I am transforming in in a shot. It is rigged and ready to go. The mech in the image is one of the mecha designs that will be in the short. This model is pretty much done but I have a few more minor details to work on on this model (so it is still a …

If you have ever watched slow motion water drops the tail end has a long spout of water that then collapses and a large drop falls to the water. I was playing with the idea and using blobbies to form the drop at the end but the results need a lot of tweaking as you can see from this post. I only colored the blobbies so I could see what looked right or wrong. Mostly wrong blobt_1.mov

I notice that there's a built-in [?] offset when V.13 pastes a copy. Every time V.11 pasted the copy directly over the original, I half wished it wouldn't. Now that it doesn't, I find that I have need of the old way, particularly when making multiples that have to sit on the same baseline...like the engines on the Junkers flying wing, like the tank bogey wheels I'm trying to align. Can the offset be disabled, or re-set to a known figure, so that 'X' number of cliks up, and 'X' number sideways will put the copy back on the baseline?

Here is something that I have been WIPping up: If you scroll to about 3/8ths of the way through this movie you will notice a frame where the hair completely disappears. Is this a known bug? Anyone else seen this? I have been trying to get a good mix for silvery-white hair but it just comes out looking too flat. Also there seems to be an issue with hair guides not behaving well on the edges of 5-point patches. Does anyone have any hair tips? I am also experimenting with modelled hair. Looking for the best options.

As the required rite of passage for TWO, here's the lion and the door. Have spent the best part of a week chewing on the carpet just to get it to this point. It's been better, and it's been a lot worse. Adding Kinetic constraints always flips the hands 180 degrees. Keeping constraints on has been an exercise in frustration suppresion. Ah well, if I have to disgrace myself before the entire Hash community, let this be the day. LION_AT_THE_DOOR.zip

Hi, Many have seen these models before but… here they are again. Using Bill Young’s ‘Model a Face’ CD from Anzovin Studio, one model was based on my face and one was based on my daughter’s. Mine could be a little better, my daughter’s came out pretty good. Both heads are rigged using one of the first face rigs presented in the AM community; Shawn Freeman's as shown on one of the AM SIG Pro Training sets. On one, you can see that I've overlaid the 3D face control setup from an early version of the Squetch rig. Latter images show both the models in scenes from my current project. Comments welcome, Rusty

My "real" job has kept me from getting much done in A:M for some time now, but recently the situation has improved and I'm working more normal hours. I might even get back involved in TWO. This is something I did last year: Self Portrait Thread I still have some tweaks left and of course eyes instead of mere spheres...and teeth and gums and a tongue and throat and texturing and hair and rigging...and maybe even a body! Here is it's current state:

I've wanted to model a truck for a long time (no, the Lego racer does not count). I've just started on the peterbilt model. I hope to be able to make the wrecker version out of it, but due to little referance and no blueprints of that particular model (1996) I'm not sure. Anyway, I dont have much to show yet: LATEST UPDATE (21.05.07)

There may already be a way to do this but if no one has posted anything yet.... Here's a way to switch between camera shots, angles, rotations etc... just using one camera, during one render. I've included the project file so you can pick at it. 1. Set the camera's "Interpolation Method" to "HOLD". 2. Move the camera to a different point in time. 3. Now the camera will quickly switch from one view to the next. camera_switch.zip

When I was but a pup, I was an avid reader of Air Trails magazine. Their premier artist was Douglas Rolf. Rolf drew with a very fine, almost fragile line [no color, minimal shadows] but very, very precise. His stuff was beautiful. Recently I went through years of morgue files culling out the chaff, and found a stack of xeroxes of his work. Among those drawings [just as good as I remember] was this plane: an Art Deco gem designed by Hugo Junkers somewhere in the mid-30's. It never got beyond blueprints and a scale model. But what a plane! I googled it, and even on Google, it's rare. There is a seaplane version that I'll play with next week. [on the trailing edge …

Here's something I've been working on for quite awhile, in my downtime. Still left to do is texturing (the hard, almost-black rubber and plastic of the mask) I have to finish the "eyes" (right now they're just flat panels with the pics decaled, which is pretty close to the final product, except the eye pics are going to be on torn pieces of paper instead of flat patches). I'll need to tweak the refractive properties of the glass in the eyepieces. Also, the lights, which are just kinda thrown inside the mask for these renders, will become permanent parts of the model. There will be a volumetric "lamp" inside the mask which will backlight the translucen…

Hey, guys! I've been experementing with A:M for about four years now, and have finally got some models I'm happy with. Here's a still of one of my bets models. I completed the entire wireframe in one night, and spent about two weeks after that rigging it. Unfortunately, I don't have very many good pictures of him since my computer has a memory leak. It ended up deleting him after only three or four stills. Anywho, here's a cool close up and full body view. In memory of Sparky. I knew him well...
