Hey all, I still haven't talked to Martin about this issue, but I figure that I'd switch around some obvious things, if for nothing else than to have a little fun! Here's the corny story I came up with: Cameron Keene, part-time marine, was enlisted by the shadowy group Nightrun Inc. to be the soldier inside their latest covert program, Project Brimstone. Reluctantly, Keene agreed and found himself in the laboratory of Dr. Walter A. Buchanon (later to be his the Keene's evil nemesis Dr. Canon ) being hooked to a rugged suit of armor loaded with every kind of fire arm possible. Wires extruded from his body, sensors monitored his vital organs and soon he bec…

here is a screenshot of what im doing. I am making a animation music video of the song We Will Rock You. i have the lead singer guy in the front and the back five sing the We Will, We Will Rock you part. i am editing the sound to make it sound funnier so it sounds like litter creatures. well another thing would be if this is legal or not. but what i want to know is if there is a way to have a bunch of the little creatures doing a head bob during the whole song using sprites or something to make it easier or something.here is what i got... i want to make the whole thing in the back filled with those guys easier than having to drag and drop all the models and place th…

I was making a small model for a bigger project that I am working on. I did a testrender just to see how the model did turn out. Its a very simple model(s) and a standard AO render, but I thought the result turned out nice, so I want to share it with you guys. I might if I find the time make several more bottles and fill the environment with them, but for now, I'll settle with this render Let me know what you think

Hey everybody... As the time with my family gets shorter and shorter I find myself with little spare time. One day after work a friend of mine wanted to go to the comic shop. As you might have guessed I picked up 2 volumes of "The Ultimates" by Mark Millar. If you're a comic fan, I would highly reccomend it. Anyway, I was inspired by the style (which is really groundbreaking) and decided to make this quick little "doodle" in a rare free afternoon that I found. Chances are, I won't be able to finish this...but here's the torso. Modeled from scratch except for the temp belt buckle and the textures are a combination of materials, dark trees and maps. …

Hi there, just to show something new out of my workshop: Pingi and Livingstone. Based on a concept of a friend of mine, i started to develop this character. I started with the one of the two, which i consider to be more complicated: Livingstone. Citic and comments are apprechiated, as usual. Cheers Heiner

The correct texture pattern on the cube is only on the front side. How can I change the orientation of this? This is probably so simple I'm just overlooking it. It seems that when I place this pattern on a model, it only applies it from the front. Obviously I want to make a floor with this, but when I drop this simbiont on a floor, it gives me the elongated pattern seen on the top of the cube. Answer: Open the material's properties and click on Transform. There you would type in a value of 90 in the X rotate value, which will give you a top down orientation to this particular material.

I'm trying to decal a movie or image sequence onto a laptop screen and it's just misbehaving like crazy. I'm on v13q. I've done this before and though it took some trial and error I did get it to work. But that was a few years ago. I've tried a QT movie and I couldn't get it off the first frame. I'm trying a sequence of .tga files but I got an error message, though it seems to be behaving otherwise. Any help, or anyone pointing me to a help file or thread would be much appreciated! Gerry

Okay I was in photoshop and decide to play with a few filters and got some interesting results that I saved. Now tonight I decide to add them to a couple of spheres and put them into an small animation. decal.mov Not sure what else to do with the "decals" so here they are with the project file v15alpha (testing it for volumetrics) decal.zip

I have a stone floor texture. I bring it in as a decal, but it has to be re-sized. I have a high contrast black & white version I want to used as a bump. How do I get them aligned? I've been struggling with them, and they have to be perfectly in sync or it looks like a red/green stereo image, seen without the glasses.

A few years ago I had sketched out a design for a spacecraft and proceeded to model it in AM. I could never get the fuselage right. A few times a year I'd pull the model up and hack away on it but it just wasn't fulfilling my original vision. Sunday afternoon I had a what-the-hell moment and converted it to AM13. For whatever reason, it suddenly came together. I have a drawer full of old drawings with many a spacecraft sketch, but this one has always been my favorite; now it appears that I might finally be able to get it flying.

I use AM as a general 3d workhorse, so I though I'd show a couple of simple and very quick projects. I thought I'd put them into a single WIP thread so that people can ask any questions they may have, and because I don't think they'll be worth a thread each. Amway Business Centres.. total project time was 1 and a half days, although it wound up at two days when I needed to alter one of the render settings and had to redo a render. That's for the sequence shown and a global map animation showing the centre locations. The project is based around the final image of a man climbing a building, the rest of it was pretty much up to me. I started the project using newton p…

Another project that got out of hand. Taking a break from animating a talking fish, I built this character. I've always itched to make this style of cartoon head/mouth. Then I decorated him. Hey everyone I am new to this whole experience so I decided to get everyones feed back on my simple image. 1. I would have loved to try to join some of the parts with hook, Some odd reason I wasn't able to hook the images to make it look like it had more flow. So I went with intruding the different parts of the model. 2. I have no clue how to play with the lighting or contrast to make it look better. An tis would be cool. Welp hope everyone likes my simple design remake.

Hi all. Just a little info on what I'm doing before I get to what I am asking. I am an actor living in L.A. My son-in-law is a Director/DP and my daughter is also an actor. Mixed into these titles are writer (myself and my son-in-law (Drew)), animator/CG (me) and producer (pretty much all of us). We are in the beginning stages of making our first joint movie (a short subject). In my infinite wisdom and total disconnect with reality, I have written a movie that has a number of special effects, and I plan to render those effects in A:M, assisted by whatever tools I can muster. While the list is subject to change, so far I have a force field, of sorts, a floa…

If I drop more then one action in my chor window they blend some how. It happens wheather I use a path or not and it does not go away when I slide the actions appart on the timeline. I have also use the model properties Blend, Add and Replace at different times with out getting predictable results. Technodandy

Hello, We've (John "Hubukai" Hubickey and I) are still working on sets for our characters. The thought entered my mind that these characters should be good for any set we make for them, so I've been playing around with the old roto feature a little in A:M. I found that I don't really need to do it that way, since A:M puts out really nice alpha channels in the TGAs that can be used to copy your character from a blank scene and paste onto a photo directly, via Photoshop. The Idea was to use the rotoscope feature in A:M (right-click on the "shortcut to camera" in the PWS under the Choreography) to light and adjust the camera angle to fit the photo. Then take into photosho…

i was inspired by bioshock to try and figure out how they make blood look so real. After a long time fumbling around with photoshop, to get a good looking liquid surface tension normal map, i think i got a fairly good result. The key though that I found out was blood doesn't have a white or red specular highlight, it's blue. Anyways, here's the results of my testing. BloodStain.zip BloodStain.mov

Hi guys First of all, thanks to everyone that voted for my entry:) The reason for modeling this car is that it is one of the coolest cars that I know of (next to Il Tempo Gigante). This image is rendered using IBL with HDRI from Dosch Design. The background image is also from the HDRI, only rendered out separate and used as a rotoscope -> frontproject target Here is a second view of the car and a wire. Let me know what you think. Best regards Stian *edit* As promised here is the IBL tutorial:) Keep in mind that I'm not very good writing tutorials, so this is an 'as is' product Hope you'll find it helpful anyway IBL_rendersetup.pdf

I've been working on this in bits of spare time I manage to carve out now and then - 10 minutes here and there, basically. It's Robbie Sinclair from the TV show "Dinosaurs" (I couldn't come up with any original ideas that were interesting enough). I plan on modeling the whole thing, texturing, rigging, and eventually animating as well. This is the first character model I've really committed to in A:M, since I don't really consider myself a modeler, but I want to get better. I know I have to work on the CP layout, parallel rows are getting pretty dense in some areas. I've had some problems with hooks (they never seem to want to work, is there a trick to making …

Pretty self explanatory. When I use a decal and apply it as a distortion map, it produces these tears in my model's arms. The percentage is only set to about 70, so it's not like it's stretching the map all to heck and back. The decal is applied in a on/off pose with the models arms set to origin in the correct orientation with a "cylindrical" application method. What is causing these tears?

Hi folks, I needed a character that I can compete with in animation competitions. So, I decided to build one with the goal of making it as universal as possible and, with David's help, will have the awesome rig used in TWO. I started with the head first. That's how I always start my drawings. Linguini, of Pixar's Ratatouille, is my inspiration. I'm following two DVD tutorials, relying heavily on Barry Zundel's (Bizzle) character modeling Disc 1, and augmnted with hints from William Sutton's Modeling a Gorilla tutorial. Your critiques and insights are most welcome.

I set aside the Fish Project for a week or so and worked on other stuff. I had the Pose Sliders all built and ready for a sound file. When I opened the .prj today, none of the sliders worked. These three were the worst. The teeth, and tongue, which were to show briefly on TH and FV were the worst, moving out through the mesh. In all of them, the lower jaw worked very little-to-none-at-all. This is major discouragement. Has anyone else experienced this?

After a long and bad time, of no job, no money and almost no perspective, i finaly have a new client, who confronted me with an quite unusual task. This guy is doing "bouncy castles" and he needs someone who designs this stuff and is doing the layouts for the final cutting forms, which are used to assemble that stuff in the end. My first job for him was to design some "cosmetics" for an large construction, called "Multi Tower". Its a constuction where kids can play, climb and do some trampolin jumping. When they finished that thing, they found, that it looks like everything else, but not like something to play with. Since the cost of this baby is somewhere around 70 000…

About twelve years ago, when CD's were a hot new technology, I had a client who needed a logo/avatar for a "CD Studio". "The Bean" suddenly appeared as a doodle in the margin: a blobby character with pipestem arms and legs, no features, surfing on a CD with a stack of three over his head. He was never submitted, but I have somehow retained a fondness for him. Over the years, I have built, and re-built The Bean in evey 3D app. that passed through my hands. Now it's A:M's turn.

Hi all I've started up yet another ambitious modeling project. For those of you who remember the "KM Bismarck" project, I can say that this new project is in the same genre. This has been my 'lunch break project' at work this month For those of you who is not familiar with FS Clemenceau (R 98), aka Le Clem, its a French aircraft carrier of the French Navy, serving from 1961 to 1997. Don't ask me why I chose this one, I have no clear answer, other than it is a beauty At this point I've mainly carved out the hull and just started to add details. I got a long way to go before it is finished. I'll probably start making the superstructure within the next few weeks.…
