Well, here goes my attempt to actually post something, hopefully it works. This guy started out as just a very simple attempt at organic modeling. He's really simple, and some people will notice I borrowed ideas from the "Killer Bean" character. I was just trying to make an egg have arms and legs as a way to practice using 5 point patching. He just kept evolving. The sunglasses were an attempt to make eyes, which I screwed up, and then realized my mistake would make really neat sunglasses so I just went with it. I figure he'd make a great bad-ass super hero, in world populated with egg people, and his only weapon would be a sledge hammer.

I'm getting these weird artifacts when I try and render the image out with Depth of Field. Notice the two sacs in the back are blurred but have a black line near the edge. Also, i tried rendering out another image with Depth of Field and a volumetric light in the foreground. Everything was blurred except the part of the image that was behind the volumetrics.... Any ideas why? Using Pentium 4, 512 RAM, 2.56 Ghz and AM 10.5... Thanks for any help!

Based on a suggestion by Rodney! EggBot_Warp.mov Basically... -Create a new Action for your model -in the Action create a new Distortion Box -in the D Box's properties select a "target" bone that is parent to all your model's mesh -edit the CPs of the D-Box to make the squshing you want -drop the Action on your model (previously animated to move around in the chor) -the D Box will normally move with the model, so it must be constrained to a Null in the chor to hold it in one place ( a place the model will pass thru)

This started out as a rig test for David Simmons Squetchy Thom rig. It pretty much uses all the S&S features of the rig. A fun rig to work with if you haven't checked it out yet! Anyways I just added the eyes and animation over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully the link will work, OK. I don't have my webspace right now. You have to click on the "320" under the animation for proper size. Eggs.mov Thanks David

My friend and I are totally lazy and we both know it. So we put together a weekly challenge for ourselves. I have to do so many seconds of animation per week, he has to draw 3 full-size comic pages a week for his webcomic. Due mondays, losers buy lunch. Here's what I've got after week one, I'll update each week. (hopefully) Week One - 3.8 meg Quicktime We decided on this late last week, so I had less than a couple days to complete the first part. edit: w00! 200th post!

Here's my new WIP. I got a basic body done right now. I drew a simple sketch to get the proportions the way I wanted. He's going to be a cartoony Zorro-esque type character. I will probably be making a few more characters as well. Now, onto the head.

Hi friends Here is my current work in progress. Its the Eldar War Walker from Warhammer 40K. I just love the design of the walker since it got both mechanical and organic feel over it. I bought a model of it which I have sent to a good friend of mine who is a warhammer figure painter. At the moment I only got photos of the unbuilt model itself as reference while modeling. I was not able to find any blueprints of the walker. Also, due to limited spare time, the progress is going a little slow. Anyway, here is what I got so far. Let me know what you think

It's done. C&C welcome. note: purple was not originally going to be my color of choice, but after a bit of testing I found it complimented the red, white, brown, and black, and was a good compromise to the original color, blue (purple is red+blue). Zack www.zack3d.tk

I've decided to model a guitar. At first I wanted to model a car, but after several failed attempts, I decided to build something on a smaller scale to get used to the feel of the mechanical/organic style modeling used in both cars and electric guitars. I decided to model a fender Stratocaster a. Because I have a Strat knock off and b. Because strat's kick @ss I decided that I'd keep everyone informed on my progress and I'll make it into a mini-tute (I don't have the time to do an extremely in depth step by step). At some point I will probably compile it all and give it a permanent spot on my website. Remember that I'm not coming here as an expert, as much…

I decided to start another animation project. I am basing this off a bunch of minor projects I have done in the past. I will be adding my piano model to some of them and adding some sweet camera angles and shots... Here are a few test frames: Render time is going to be murder! Most scenes have AO (the desert scene etc) and I managed to optimize those to keep them under 20 minutes a frame. The pool scene I took AO out so I could render faster (about 2 hours a frame with AO!!) Most shots are down under 20 minutes a frame now. I have plans to hopefully finish this comletly including rendering in the next 2 weeks to enter in a contest at my s…

Starting to get real busy here. Had to do some layouts of some cast plates with depressed lettering and imprinted ceramic middles for a client to choose from. Love the displacement mapping in AM, so much easier then messing around with high density poly models or micro displacement. So much quicker for the basic texturing than just about any program I have used in the past. Thanks!

Back in 2004 I got an "Employee of the Month " award which took the form of a small gargoyle sculpture. I thought it would be a fun A:M modeling exercise so i began splining it out but hit a few road blocks and put it aside. The plan was that the recipient would get to have it on their desk for a month and then the next month's awardee would take it over but by the time I got laid off six months later no one else had done anything anyone wanted to talk about so I still have the trophy. Now I have some time, I think I'll try to finish it and see if I can rig him, possibly without straightening him into a T-pose.

I was making a small model for a bigger project that I am working on. I did a testrender just to see how the model did turn out. Its a very simple model(s) and a standard AO render, but I thought the result turned out nice, so I want to share it with you guys. I might if I find the time make several more bottles and fill the environment with them, but for now, I'll settle with this render Let me know what you think

Hi, I've been rigging a character for about six weeks now and finally got the hard part done. I used NO smartskin or expressions with these bones, only the constraints. I started with a simple idea... create a control rig for the mesh, what I'm saying is create a rig that reacts to the primary rig (i.e. the bicep/forearm control the bones that deform the elbow.). The first problem was to build a rig that could be placed around the primary bones- just like it was a mesh, contouring the mesh. I had to do a test using a tube to figure out the position and constraints that would make the bones move in reaction to the main bones. Then turning on the bone falloff and t…

Posting some work in progress on my character, he is not clothed yet, but 90% of the phenome poses are done, 1% of facial poses, and the "hair" is complete... I should have the model clothed in 4 weeks-- week 1: finish phenomes week 2: finish facial moves week 3: rework rig/shoulders week 4: finish/ test clothing + any textures The first renders are of the head from the modeling window (Each was 1280x960 and reduced and composited together in photoshop): (Note: Textures are 4000x3093...(Color/bump/diffuse/specular intensity) Head, torso, right & left arms, right & left legs, right & left hands (color only), and feet are not texured. Walking a "Tightrope" was the topic this week. But my guy ended up looking more like he's waiting for some clown on a trapeze to take him out. See it on my showdown page (QT 95K Sorenson3) My "plan" was to break up the walking action with these "unbalanced" poses, but I never got them to work together and in hindsight, that was too much of a "make animation" solution and not enough of a "character animation" solution.

Hello friends: Just wanted to post my contest entry and a wireframe of the scene. I've worked on it a little bit more, but the basics are unchanged. I really wanted to keep the modeling to a minimum and concentrate more on the mood and lighting. AM v.15 has been very stable when it came to putting all these lights in a scene. Most of the lights have lens flares turned on to get the effect I was after. I also used smoke particles, although the background is comprised of two camera rotoscopes, one with stars and moon, and the other one with the majority of the background smoke. Feel free to leave any comments or questions. -E

Here's the link to the newest Ernie cartoon: The good news is that this was created in record time. I wrote it last night, captured this morning, exported and rendered this afternoon, and tonight it is posted. This is partly due to the direct A:M action export Luuk has added to Zign Track, and partly because I'm getting the hang of it. The bad news is his antennae still do not bounce. At Matt's suggestion I did not solve the spring system but let it solve as it went, but I forgot to change the threshold to zero. Result, wooden antenna syndrome. Next time, I promise.

Here is the latest from Ernie. It is a 1920's music video. This is an exciting cartoon for a couple of reasons. First, I got blink tracking working in ZignTrack. This gives the eyes a lot more expressiveness. It was pretty simple, I put tiny loops of blue masking tape on my top lashes and tracked them with the second eyebrow feature (which I wasn't using). Second, everything after tracking in ZT was done in A:M. I rendered the animation at 18fps. I created dust and scratch mattes using particles. I composited the dust and scratches and tinted it B&W. Finally I rerendered at 30fps with sound. (the scratches mostly got compressed out by Youtube…

I'm doing a short video for my band. I've been working on animating a guy in a space suit doing low-gravity jumping. I've rigged him with a simple rig based on Barry Zundel's, which he described in his A:M 2005 training video. The space suit is a lot simpler than a human body, because you would expect it to crumple in ways human skin will not, so there is not as much cosmetic bone work. Also, movement is somewhat restricted. Anyway, at the moment I'm trying to get the movement as natural as I can. You can see the action at the link below. I've been working on getting followthrough and overlapping action happening. I'd love to hear your views on what I've done …

The mascot contest is over and I am trying to go back and fix a lot of the mistakes I made on this character: My Losing Mascot Entry HERE is a short quicktime file. It uses the h264 codec, so you'll probably need the newest version of QT to view it. I need to add some bones to help with forearm rotation. I also need to do more with the hair and eyebrows. They just don't look right being flat when his coat is so furry. On the other hand, I might remove the fur and try toon rendering him. I may or may not go back and try to model the face differently. I've also been fixing the fur. In my rush to make the deadline, I forgot to tweak a lot of the…

As some of you may already know, Eric has been working on an EVA pod for my 2001 Discovery project. I was at the next stage of working on the models, which was trying to come up with a Dave Bowman model. Suffice it to say, that didn't work out really well. Figure I will come back to him later. Much later. I think I need to go through the face tutorial again and try to find some good pictures of Keir Dullea. At some point, I need to get a really good Bowman model completed. Anyway, I've been off work the past two days due to some minor surgery, and was getting pretty bored. Not really into watching soap operas during the day, so I thought I would give an EVA pod a go …

Well, i've worked on this in my spare time between school and other things. I'm pretty new at A:M and this is actually the first model that i actually have rigged. I still have to rig the antenna and fix the riging of the legs. And also increase the amount of patches in the head, because it renders really wierd as you will see in the photo. Comments and Critiques are definately welcome! Thanks

Here's a progress video of the character in my avatar which I'm making for a project I'm working on. The head in the first frame is from a character I made previously so, this character grew out of that one. There aren't as many steps as I'd like but it's all the models I have. The original concept was inspired by a sketch. testbrat.wmv
