Hi, I've been planning to complete several projects in AM but I can't seem to get things rolling at a good pace. So I figured that if I post some WIPs I might be spurred along by the forum and eventually complete something. I usually have a few things going on at once so its a little difficult to concentrate on one project through to completion. I will try to change that for the new year. Hopefully I can find some success by doing this. The project I'm currently working on is fairly complex with numerous characters and a very detailed background with lots of action. It will be a still. I am doing this only for my own amusement, especially since it would probably be ea…

This is a Perlin Noise combiner used as a bump material. I tried it as a displacement material but in this case bump looked nicer and rendered faster. MoonlightG000h264_1500.mov

Here are real-world objects shot against a (poor) blue screen. With A:M Composite it's possible to pull out a matte like this... and use that as a transparency map to remove the background from the original image... and overlay the photographed objects over CG imagery Ta-daaaahhhh! I"ve been wanting to figure out a way to do this in A:M by itself for maybe 5 years now. I'm still R&D-ing this so no tut yet.

Hi all, I had been entering this comp with another App in the past but this month, after my initial attempts were panned have chosen AM and a completely new approach. Currently rerigging the 2 characters to be able to blink and talk (at least at a basic level). (Chicken: "You Stole from my kin.") Cheers

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

I love A:M and this forum. I check it for new posts more often than I check my email, and I check my email several times a day. I've been slowly making images for my website upgrade and learning about materials a bit. Because I plan on using the "Christie" font throughout my website, and want to have the lettering look a little more "3d" I modeled the Alphabet which has taken me some time. But it has helped me gain a higher "spline consciousness". I'm very much looking forward to the time when I get caught up enough with my "day job" projects to actually try my hand at animating something. Here are a couple of the images I've come up with for the site. There…

If anyone has payed attention or if ive forgotten to mention the past two years i have made a video for our Thanksgiving Carpetball tournament. Each year it has improved immensly and each year i think i wont be able to out-do myself. But i have once again. I have modeled all the people that will be in the tournament to be involved in the video. I am not the best realistic modeller but i pulled off a neat cartoonish look for everyone. With a few modifications and different outfits and hairdo's i say this turned out pretty awesome. I have also [using the 2001 skeleton rig] rigged all 20 something people. Everything has been done by me and none others . Here a…

So, I must say, the second face is considerably easier then the first, who knows, I may have some char modeling blood in me afterall I'm not quite done as you can probably notice, the mesh is dense in a few areas where it doesn't need to be, namely in the eye-nose region, and I haven't made a nostril yet

Hi all, I created a simple table that I made an action for that does a basic walk cycle on a path. I also created a choreography action that transitions the walk to a stop. It worked great last night but for some reason it doesn't appear to be working now. Would someone please take a look at the project (I'm using V15.0i) and see what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple that I'm just not seeing. Thanks, George table_walk.prj

I wonder if it would be a good way to use a spriteemiter doing leafs for a tree and then just "freezing" it, so that you get a tree with many leafs usable for more distant trees. Does anybody ever used this or has any ecxpierience with that? Just asking, if it makes sense to investigate into that direction....

So, time;s been tight, but ELZ is still being worked on. The following are three shots I have completed so far for the opening. These replace the still pics that I used in the animatic I posted a while ago. These are just still shots, but they are animated in the final product:

As most of you know, my colleague and I have been working very diligently on ELZ, and despite my breakdown of sorts due to massive discouragements, I am back in the game and for the most part better then ever. The following vid is where we are at today with the opening of ELZ. Now do note, the dedication at the beginning is someone my colleague knows, and I had a lengthy discussion making sure he understood what it meant! Also, the girl is not dead if you are thinking that, because I did. Also, the flaming meteor shot is just filler and thus it is in low quality and not complete. It will be replaced by one or more different shots that don't take as long to render! B…

Hey guys it's been awhile since I posted, hope everyone had a good new year. I took a break from the dental animations.... and got another dental related project. I think I have been typecast as the 3D dental guy, oh well work is work. ;-) This animation came out pretty good - it was a big project, so I didn't have a lot of time to spend modeling the 2 characters as good as I would have liked - on top of my people modeling and people animation skills are not the best, but with the professional voice-over and music in the background it really takes your attention away from it. Anyway, it's about 3 1/2 minutes long, and the first 35 seconds or so is the voice-ov…

It's traditional to make New Years resolutions around this time of year (or perhaps sooner). So I want to know ... What do you plan on working on with Animation:Master in 2010? What do you want to accomplish with A:M this year? If you specify a big project ("I want to make a 5 minute animation"), break it down into chunks (write a script, design characters, model characters, rig characters, model sets and props, record voices and sound effects, blocking animation, etc.). One problem with New Years resolutions is not dedicating the time. So how much time do you plan on spending on Animation:Master?

Hi all, I completly redid the Focke Wulf, I had found someplace and that I have used for my "propeller spin thread" . I also gave it a less martial more "Howard Hughian" look. Also added some poses for easy handling. You can roll , turn, tilt and steer the rudder, also retract the wheels and open the canopy. (see movie) Please feel free to take and use this model at your will. Maybe show us some testflights? Next I plan to implement John`s propeller speed technic as soon as I get a grasp of it. (Thats the propeller speed pose has to be filled up for, still nofunction) speed1.prj FockeWulfTest.mov

Here is one more model from the movie 2001 - A Space Odyssey. It is the Moonbus, used to ferry the scientific team from the Clavius moonbase out to the Tycho crater where the monolith was found. I remember having the Aurora plastic kit of it when I was in my teens. Found some blueprints for the moonbus, as well as some excellent photographs of master model builder Martin Bower building a studio sized model. Al

This is just a quick experiment doing a dolly shot. The background is a layer object ,as are the trees and the grass. There is a Sun light oriented to match the sun in the background (with lens flare). The rock in the foreground is the only geometry (it was a test on using props in the landscape, but it isn't lighting correctly so just ignore MATTE_TEST.mov

I have been thinking of starting a project over winter break. Of the ideas I had the idea to "3d-erize" my room won. I started so far by just modeling the main objects in my room: desk, shelves, dresser, bed. The bed right now is just a modified version of the bench from my piano project, It is just there to a be a deformer for the cloth system sheets I plan to put over it. 1 Light, radiosity about 2 hours 4x4pass Note- There is quite a bit of distortion from the 15mm perspective. I never did that much modeling characters. I want to start a little bigger(little big? excuse my french) project, so maybe better and safer to own my characters. I have tried to stay with a fairly low mesh density so far, hope it works for animating. Do most people still apply decals on the face using flatten? I used it a few years ago, worked well, but this time I can't find the way to apply the decal in the action window where I flatten the face. I will rig them soon with 2008 rig to test the models. well... I hope to be finished within the next 2 or 3 days... with Xmas just around the corner I'm not sure how much time i can spend on post and rendering... Speaking of rendering, does anyone have any suggestions? While doing a test render, i noticed some plack artifacts around the particle systems, but I kind of want to keep it well lit and cheery... is there even a way to keep it close to the workspace render... given time constraints I may only have one shot at it. I'm posting some screen shots without facial expressions or secondary movements (also without hair or particle systems). (See images below)

Well I'm on vacation until January 4th so I decided to start a new character. I want to have a simple-to-animate character that can have a wide range of expression. Kind of like the standard Animation Mentor characters. My ambitious intention is to build a rig for her and use her to get better at the animation side of things. I did add ears and some hair which may be more than needed but here's what I did so far. I'm having a little trouble smoothing the cheeks. It seems anytime there is a five point patch I get a slight crease from some angle. I don't want to use the porcelain material to fix it. I'd rather figure out how to do it with the splines. Righ…
