I am having trouble getting two constraints: AimAt and Path to work together for the camera in a choreography. I have done this successfully in the past, but it seems that it has become more complicated now. I load a model into the choreography located a little left of center - see untitled-1. I then add a constraint AimAt the model for the camera. see untitled-2. Notice that the camera does not work unless you change the animate mode property from -not set- (evidently the default) to 'On' . You also need to change RotateOffsets for x,y,z to 0 in the properties of the constraint, otherwise it will not directly AimAt the model (evidently the default is not…

The Oldest Hash AM training material on the early web sites of 1999 when I started using version 10.5 were excellent for beginner self education in modeling animation rigging and virtually the best introduction of Computer Graphics and Animation movie making. Can any one direct us to the links of those old web sites. I do have some old copies of some of those web pages in HTML format, but due to Author copyright constraints am unable to offer them even freely to Hash AM enthusiasts!. Please help as that material was easy to understand and experiment with even on Windows_XP. They opened up the extensive versatility of Hash AM to me. I use Hash AM even to this day to d…

I'm not smart enough to get A:M data into it but I'm sure there are some folks out there that are. Dreamworks Animation recently released one of their proprietary tools: http://www.openvdb.org I found this while researching a project management program that I'm hoping will work well with A:M.

Installed AM and I swapped to DirectX. Then I went to software render instead of hardware. Now when I launch I get ERROR at the top of the screen. I go to options and attempt to try to get hardware back but the graphics tab isn't even showing up. I can go to OpenGL but I get the mystery gray box when trying to select anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled but no good. I'm stumped. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have a question that I'm hoping some of you can weigh in on, especially those that actually has experience in making and finishing stuff and even more importantly, finishing big stuff (feature films essentially). But I'll take all opinions. First off, I'm going to post a script in CeltX format. Please don't redistribute the script and on top of that, if you're willing to read it at all that would be impressive (it's 130 pages.) Before I ask my questions, first make a couple of assumptions. One is that there would be minimal changes to the script, no reducing it to a short film or anything. The second, imagine it's a perfect and hypothetical world. So the ques…

One of the decisions I need to make with my planning of Pappa Bear's career is whether or not to do these as toon renders or straight up 3d. One of the considerations is the setting. These shorts will be based in the Walt Disney World parks, initially Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. So I need to figure in creating the buildings as either models or simple projection maps. Also, while I really dig the old timey toon look, I'm not entirely sold that it is appropriate for this. I put together a quick test to see how Pappa Bear looks in both 3d and toon renders. I used a back drop painting that I had acquired at an auction that was used in an unknown Hanna-Barbara 1960…

- and Yes - I worked on this from about 1977-1984ish? Not sure what year the video was taken. (after 1981 I would guess) In particular I worked on the real time software (project lead) that generated the simulated out-the-window imagery for the forward, aft, overhead windows of the shuttle as well as the simulated imagery as seen from the CCTV cameras located on the remote manipulator system (used to place payload objects from the cargo bay into space via remote manipulatur "arms"). In particular I worked on the fixed base and motion based simulators that were used for training the astronauts (landing, navigation and cargo bay missions). Yes. The imagery is pret…

Hmmm... looks intriguing. As it is already funded and still has 18 days to go... I might have to bite at this one. Although in many ways this is more of a novelty item it does have some practicality to it also. This might be primarily of interest for those of you with a desire for a Cintique but a budget closer to an iPad. Of interest to me is how this effort actually helps to bridge the gap between old 2D methodology and the newer digital approaches. This reminds me of a few far fetched story ideas I wanted to use in a project many years ago. In those projects I intentionally targeted things that were 'impossible' because the technology added an element of mystery, fantasy, science and fiction and suggested a sense of the futuristic as a point of departure within an otherwise present day context. The trick being to tie the impossible tech into reality just enough to keep it from being entirely unbelievable with the gist of the resolution of the plot being something of a Rube Goldberg approach to problem solving; "How did the hero solve the mystery?" Why, Everyone knows he's a master of forms of science and technolog…

Finally came in, set everything up without a hitch and wow what a nice machine! Lots to watch out for as with any high tech equipment, biggest issue is keeping the resin tray clean, keep material mixed and plan on a resin tray with each liter of resin to play it safe. Thought they sell the trays separate they are the most prone for print failures simply because of the wear and tear of how the machine operates. I did my first print of a coin, tossed it on edge because I didn't want to have to glue 2 parts together for a quickie proof. I printed it at med resolution 50 micron and the detail of the text all held perfectly. Far better than any Objet or Polyjet print I hav…

Hey guys & gals finally got around to getting back onto AM to chip away at some old projects, just got myself the new V18 subscription no 64 bit version for mac ?? Running slow as on my twin processor dual core xeon with Nvidia Fx 4800 - what is the SSE4 for mac ?? Or should I just boot camp it, which is what I did last time. Another thing, when I apply decals in shaded wireframe view it doesn't show the texture previews until I render them - is that a mac thing or is it a setting in options for video card ??

Avalanche Software that was shuttered by Disney after they closed their gaming divisions is back in business again under the Warner Brothers banner. Interestingly enough, their first major project is a Disney property; the 'Cars 3' game. http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/24/14371888/cars-3-video-game-avalanche-software-warner-bros I'm not surprised. Their breadth of experience and talent.is substantial and has been since their early days of using Animation:Master. The downside? If Avalanche at Disney had 300 employees they now have approx. 100 and while it can be assumed that some of the 200 stayed at Disney in some capacity most had to seek other opportunities…

Okey Doeky, went and got myself a Radeon HD 6850 3D card for mac and swapped it with the quadro that was in there, now AM is behaving good, except the last project I was working on is crashing on opening, there is a model in there which I did not save out, I think because I had the project setup with 4 windows for the views, AM boots, loads the files, then draws the windows and crashes . . . is there a way to reset this on the project file to one window or extract the model file ? . . . next step . . . install windows 7

There are a ton of video capture programs out there and here's yet another one (PC only... sorry mac guys/gals). http://www.screentogif.com/ Source code is available as well. This is definitely a progam to check out because it has most of the tools that standard screeen capture software doesn't have. A few quick pluses: - Capture to GIF animation, image sequences, avi (mp4 and other formats via FFmpeg tab) - A basic frame editor - Basic drawing on screen (or board recording) - Webcam recording - Lots of other stuff I'm forgetting such as text, cropping, basic transitions, etc) - It's free (donations to the creator welcome!) - Actively developed (las…

Hi, It is funny how I always come back to AM, even with a few years break, for the simple pleasure of animating. Nothing beats its simplicity. I am using version 18.0p on Win 10. When I do a smartskin I would like to be able to track the movements of individual cp's in the graph window. That way, if there is an odd jerky movement of a cp i could smooth it out. But I can't see any way of bringing them up in the graph window. Is it possible? Kind regards Mike Logan

I have a project that is five models that can be joined together to make one object. I'm not sure how to do it. I've tried the constraints but since each model is it's own thing, kinematic chains and the translate to, orient like constraints aren't working. Is there another way to do what I am attempting? I've included a screenshot of my starting point. You can figure out the rest. Any suggestions?

I found my old A:M disk and inserted it in my not as old Windows 7 PC, and it says: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. I thought this PC would run both 32-bit and 64-bit. Is there a way to get this to work? The disk says ©2002. Can't afford a new version. Thank you. --Roger

Not related to A:M. Recently I am using "ImageToAvi 1.0.0.5" to convert 1920x1080 jpg's to avi. This was going fine, although the program seems limited to 720x480. Now I am on the fifth file of jpg's and the program starts quartering out all avi's. So I tried other formats, but only 640x480 suceeds. A bit confused tried other programs, like VideoPath. This makes go all frames on 5sec. I thought of using A:M to import the jpgs again, but that's not the same.| Are there other methodes to convert jpg to avi?
