A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been using Animation master for 2 years. I recently lost my A:M cd while traveling. I have my serial number but can't start the program because, as you all know, you need to have the cd in the drive in order to start. My question is as follows: Is there any file or anything that I can download that will get AM to start even without the cd? Or is there any way to get the cd using my serial # ? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you! Bruce

Hey people. I need help with a project in V 10.5 I got an idea of trying to make an animation that looks like a child's drawing with stick figures and such, and I was wondering how you guys think I should do the surfaces. The idea for the project is that I was going to start it with a zoom in of a simple drawing on a fridge door. The premise of the movie is a stick figure action blockbuster with a ton of stick figure fight scenes, car chases, and the like. I got the idea from an old Mtv short called Stick Figure Theatre on the show Liquid Television. So when the picture starts to move it's all in 3D. Most of the models that I've made The problem is…

Having initially had problems with sound files ( thankfully fixed due to forum users advice ) I have completed the animation first part of a little project I'm working on and want to fine tune it using the f curves ( ?). I'm not sure if that is the correct term for them ? What I mean is the way of changing the curve that flows through the timeline to affect the interpolation method of the keyframes set. To get a hold, constant speed or the normal spline. I have never done this before and wondered if anyone could point me to the relevant section in the Tech reference/ TAO/ forum archives to try and learn a bit more about it ? I am using V16. Thank y…

Hey everyone, I've been doing a lot of playing around with decals but theres one reoccurring problem. I can't seem to apply a transparent decal (lets say I have a circle decal I want to apply to grid. I want the decaled circle to be white and the diffuse color of the grid to be green. I want the circle to be applied as a decal but still have the green on the grid evident.) I'm using photo shop elements so this question isn't completely related to A:M. Thanks for the help, Masna

I just noticed this: When I open the Libraries of A:M v15 (web), I can't find any primitives-objects... am I just blind? In v8-v14 they where available, so they should be included here to. Even so it is only a small collection, this is missing in a 3d-programm. *Fuchur*

I've had Brian Fisher working as an intern for the summer at HDStudios, where I do graphics. Brian has been playing with Hash now for only 3 weeks and has just posted an animation on YouTube that I think is quite good for an early 'go' with any 3D software! He used the Porsche model from my V14 CD, and modeled the roads and environment himself. Hopefully this will be found inspiring to other Newbies or folks considering A:M purchase.

I'm back. Bought A:M at Siggraph in 2006 and started then. Now I am back giving it another shot and more time. I do have some selfish reasons for restarting my A:M education as I need to create some FX for a short I'm working on and the 2D aspect of AE is killing me. I'll be stiching together a 3D face of one of my actresses (like the girraffe tutorial) and using it as a base for some 3D sludge that comes out of her pores. Wish me luck. I was just rereading some of the posts and It still seems to be a friendly place. One quick question, Will I have better luck using the newer version or will the 2006 version serve my purposes untill I can upgrade? …

Hi, The manual seems to indicate that is possible to import an animated gif file and use it as a decal. Whenever I try to import such a gif file, either through "Import Image/Animation" or "Import Image/Sequence", and click the "Import as a sequence of images", I'm told that it is an "Invalid gif file." What I am trying to do is to import a 4-frame animated gif and apply it as a decal to a model (in this case, a playing card) and when rendered, have the animated gif play as the card moves. Is this possible? thanks...

Hi! I am a long time user of A:M but sometimes even we have newbee-questions So: How do you set the pivot of a model to a new position? When I model a character and rig it and than I want to reset the pivot of the model (in the model-window) to a new position so that for example the feet of my character are at the 0 / 0 / 0 point. I could translate the geometry and after that the bones with a translate-comment on the highest hierachy-level, but I wounder if there is a way to just set the model-pivot with a number-input like "Set new pivot to 50 cm lower."? Thanks for your time and your answers *Fuchur*

Hi - I am playing around w/ CP Weighting and for some reason it isn't working. "Has Falloff" is on and set at 75% and 30% for the bones - you can see from the image below. Anyone who knows what I am doing wrong, please let me know. - thanks - Eric

Hi - I made a military gorilla model and put together a quick animation of him shooting a gatlin gun, and to make it more realistic wanted to have a gun "fire" effect at the end of the 6 barrels (although a gorilla w/ a gatlin gun isn't the most realistic thing to begin with . Does anyone have a sample of one I can play around with or know of a tutorial for "gun fire"? I can probably run through the smoke and fire tutorial again and figure it out from there, but I was looking for something more specific. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric

Long time user(since Playmation) just returned to A.M., upgraded, yada, yada. I cant seem to find my beloved Isometric rendering function... Has this option for rendering been removed? If it has, what was the last version it was in? If its still in there, where is it hiding? Sorry to ask such a nobbish question but the option isnt where I remember it being. Ty in advance for any help/hints, I have a client who wants flat shaded Iso type graphics and AM was my first choice.

As an example, I will use the MirrorBones plugin available here: http://sgross.com/plugins/index.html 1. Download the mirrorbone.zip file. 2. Right click it and Extract All. This should give you a MirrorBone.hxt file. 2. Right click it and left click Copy 3. Click Start Menu > My Computer 4. Click the Folders Icon on your top toolbar to show a list of folders on the left hand side (If you don't have this, you will have to double click your way down to get to the hxt folder, instead of doing the next step). 5. hey guys I'm new to the program purchased about a week ago, I'm a 2d guy making the move from anime studio, so far I've been blown away by how easy its been for me to learn. However in most of my other programs to add points to a selection, I just hold shift with those old points selected, then select those points I want to add, and they are added to my selected group. I've noticed this doesnt work for me in AM, is there a way to do this? Sometimes lassoing doesnt work well, and as I'm building a face model I want to create groups like inner mouth etc and give those groups a diff color, but its hard to select the right points without this feature. Any tips?

Hey, kids-- I'm slogging my way through the rigging tutorial in David Rogers' book. After you rig one leg, it says to copy the pelvis-down hierarchy, select those, enter scale mode, and scale them -100% in the x-axis to flip 'em. That's no problem with CPs, but all of the scale boxes for bones stay grayed out, and I can't figure out how to get them active. I can scale those bones using the scale manipulator in the modeling window, but obviously that is imprecise, and I can't flip them on the x-axis that way. What am I doing wrong? Thanksh--

A few months ago I found, and went through, a simple but excellent little tutorial on how to make a beveled cube. It was step by step, but I am not sure if it was a video tutorial or not, I'm thinking not. I am pretty sure I found it in the tutorials section somewhere, but after searching through there for an hour or so, it seems to have eluded me. In my (often faulty) memory it seems to have been one of several "mini" tutorials in the same 'place'. It was not the Qvids. For some reason I want to think they were done by Ken H. (But that may only be because of the fact that I hold him and his skills in such high regard. I wish to go through the tute again, but I…

Hi, I have used the standard Eddie character, set up an action for him, added some voice and then added a dope sheet. Adjusted the widths to sync lips with voice, everything worked fine but the lip movement is far too large for what I want - in fact it looks totally unrealistic. I went in and adjusted the percentage for each phoneme at each change in the timeline, so that action looks OK, but it will be very cumbersome if I have to do this every time I do lip syncing and I am sure there must a cleaner way around this problem. Maybe I was dreaming, but I seem to remember a slider that could be used to change the range for an action - as I said maybe I was dream…
