The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hi all, Can anyone tell me what determines the start of a path? I'm working on a SO shot and I have a crow constrained to a path that I had to modify by adding a few splines and now It's starting at the end of the path. I know I could use ease to make it work but I just want to understand how it works. So what controls where the start of a path for a model is. I need to get the crow on the other end of the path spline. George

Currently whenever I try to select multiple objects via clicking and dragging in windows vista I get a square the size of the selection field that stays after I have released. Its color changes depending on what appearance scheme I use. Most commonly it is black or dark grey. Is this a problem with my vid card? I have an nvidia 6900GT.

I am trying to mix some live action but when I load a new rotoscope it only appears as a white screen, I can click on render mode and see it but makes it hard to add my CG when I am unable to see and move an object at once. Anyone had this before?

Using 15.0j on an Intel iMac 10.5.8. It seems that many patches don't emit sprite particles... randomly. I threw together a project quick to test it out, and a simple model revealed the same results. spritebug.zip If you've got the time, I'd love to hear if you have problems with this. Try dragging the particle emitter to different groups, or try copying the groups and then moving the emitter around. It sometimes seems to only work with certain patches of the groups, or emit unevenly. I haven't touched this particle system since I got it running great back in this thread, and I loaded it up today to find it not working at all. It coughs out a poof from a singl…

Hi, I just received animation master, and the program will not run unless the install disc is in the drive. Is this how it is suppose to operate. Also when I do get it to boot from the disc, what I am seeing on the screen and according to the manual what I am suppose to be seeing are different. In the manual it looks like a camera view with a grid. I am just getting a gray background. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Eric

In all the versions of help I've found, the Java table of contents crashes. Java doesn't crash on anything else. It looks like it's looking for privleges and not giving me a chance to grant them. Is there any way to delete a pose from the pose slider box? I delete it but it still remains, and I want to reduce clutter. This is really wierd, but I went as far as to delete the whole relationships folder for one of my characters, however, the "deleted" poses are still listed in the pose slider box!

Hey can anyone help me i already made my model but how can i put on the texture and also make sure the texture looks clean o the model i tried to do it by watching the FW fighter and the way they put the decal on there but i didnt come out the way i wanted it to look....when i try to save my picture in TARGA format and imported in AM the alpha channel comes out white how can i prevent that...here is a picture of what my model looks like with the decal on.

Hello All, I'm running A:M v13.01 on a new MacBook with Intel processor. A:M seems to work fine, as it should. I'm experimenting with HDRI lighting, and was trying to follow the instructions to load an .hdr file into A:M from the HDRI Tutorial thread. It was suggested that the binary .hdr file (I got the "uffizi gallery" HDR file from the Debevec site at http://www.debevec.org/Probes/) should be imported. When I right click on the images directory in the Workspace and attempt Import>Image..., and then select the "uffizi_probe.hdr" file, it says "Unsuppported HDR Format." Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? Alternately, can I change the HDR…

Hello all. I work on a Macintosh, and I had started some models at home. I also use a Mac at work, same operating system. I saved some files on my USB drive and took the program to work, and the files won't open. I'm running the same, updated AM program at work. Am I missing a step in saving the program? Thanks!

Hi - I have played around w/ materials a bit from my last practice model and have a basic understanding of how it works. I have a couple of questions - I need practice modelling as well so I modeled a small dinosaur which I will use to work on materials and textures. What I am going for is for the dinosaur to have an alligator skin look - I am going to put the dinosaur in a short humerous animation - so I am not going for photorealistic, but I still want an alligator skin look. i want to scale a bone precisely (not using the mouse) and also scale related cps and child bones. i expect to do this in the transform/translate area of the property window, but the entire transform section is grayed out, and i can't change the values. what's going on? did this method go away sometime since version 8... am i not seeing the new way to do this... or am i experiencing some kind of bug caused by my version 8 model. answers to anticipated questions: tried in versions 12v+ and 12w the model has been imported a few times scaling by mouse does work, but i want precision she's naked now, but clothes are next thanks! -jon …

Hi, I'm trying to make this model's mouth, but as you can see on the left side, it sorta dies down to a grey-er shade, I'm trying to keep it as look-alike as much as possible, is there a way to, say, start as a color and have it slowly change into another at some point? Another thing, I don't necessarily know how to use Photoshop, nor do I have any drawing talents whatsoever. Latent or potent. And rather than draw a mouth, eye, anything really that isn't 3D and make it a decal on a model, I basically just draw it with splines, render as lines and add colors to it. Ive learned a lot from Rodney and others that have helped me with things. especially modeling. so now ive learned how to make a cude easily. super easily. in less than a minute i guess. but using a cube ive made i made a pretty good looking garbage can. my first ever completed model that involves inorganic city street models garbage_can.bmp garbage_can1.bmp Also how do you make the pictures just visible on the post like ive seen before, because i could only do this. where you download it.

I'm doing a composition with some models which are meshes built around prelit images. In other words, I want the exact pixel values for the colors, without any adjustment based on lighting. I'm looking for an option, but I see nothing. I deleted all the lights, and of course that just gives black. I want no shadows, no reflections, just the decals' original colors. Thanks!

I cannot figure out how to render my projects to where they run smoothly. They play as if they are a ticking clock. Stop,go,stop,go,stop,go. This even happens after the file has been completely loaded and played several times. How do I stop this?

I've been gone from AM for a while, but I intend to come back with a vengeance! Trouble is that I'm not ready to upgrade at this time. I see a lot of useful files out there, but they don't seem to want to cooperate with me. I have version 8.5f and it doesn't want to load any later mdl versions. I seem to remember that in the past I could simply open the model file as a text file and switch the version number to 8.5 and it would work (granted all the "new" features would produce errors and be automatically deleted). However, this doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Any suggestions? ((edit: Vengeance and a spellchecker!))

Ok been working a lot of the tutorials off the web site and even purchased the training videos form 2005, have a problem. A lot of the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to apply to the new version 15.0c So my question since I don't have the hard copy of the manual, just the .pdf from the web site where can I find a list of the newest shortcuts. It seems to me that the shortcuts are the key to most of the modeling which is what i want to learn, gotta have a character before you can make it move!

Has anyone else ever noticed that occasionally, AM will not display a model when opening a project or choreography back up? For instance, lets say you have a project with only one model in it, and you open it back up, all AM will show is a gray screen. Then if you close and reopen it, the model will display. I'm not sure if its a problem with the graphics driver software or maybe I need to click on the model once in the Project Workspace in order for it to appear. Sometimes when i do that, I can see the model, sometimes I can't.

Hi, I'm following the "Flower Power" exercise in the "Art of..." book. I'm unable to correctly place control points near the y-axis because the points are snapping to the points on the grid. How do I toggle the 'snap to grid' feature in the modeling window? Cheers!

I'm trying to do exercise 5, except I'm customizing the animation some. Since I have many keyframes, I'm looking for a convenient way to quickly mirror a range of time without having to cut/paste-mirror each frame, so I can quickly and easily preview the animation after making minor tweaks to it. Does anybody know how to do this? The closest I've come, is that I've figured out how to copy/paste a range of control-points in the timeline window. Thanks for any help!

Hello New user here. I was wondering the fastest way to handle making a scene where to characters talk to each other back and forth. Do you have to make a seperate action and dope sheet each time a character speaks. or can I make one really long dope sheet for everything each character says and then space it out in the chor. I hope this makes sense

I have a character that is lifting a box. The character bends down to pick up the box, then I constrain (translate to) the box to his hand. He then picks up the box and places it on a table. This all works nicely until I place the box on the table and turn the enforcement of the contraint to zero. At that point the box jumps back on the floor. Is there an option I can click somewhere that forces the box to stay in the place it was last translated to when the constraint was turned off?

Just wondering, do any retail stores sell Animation Master? Is it exclusive to the Hash website and I saw a few posts about buying at expos and trade shows. Don't get me wrong I want Hash to get credited for the sale, just want to go right to store and buy when I can, if possible. Thanks.

Ok when i might go to side view weird things happen when ill grab a bone sonetimes, like just now i went to side view and tried to push the door in from side view and all i did was grabbed the whole door with me and it was dragged out of the door frame completely??

I am setting up a complicated stage. It to be a city. In the choreography I can have multiple copies of the same building or prop. I was wondering if this can be done in the model window. So you can build a complex building with relatively few parts. And low CP count. Before you drop them in the choreography. Or is this only possible in choreography Also is there a place to change the model file defaults so the “Toon Shading (Method)” can be set to standard when I make a new model?

Hello, im very new to animation master, but I know most of the how-to-model-basics. I have finished most parts of my 3d Tyrannosaurus rex BUT, I can't find any option that can remove triangles or a smooth shading option*. So my first question would be: Is there any model correcting button? Or any smooth shading button? and.....my second is: How can you mount an UV map to a model instead of drag and droping decals? Thanks a lot 8imon * smooth shading is shading the model from flat triangles shading to smoother.

my roto's gone missing. just now, it can't be far? clues; i'm in the bus stop project it's been unpickable (and visible) all the time (together with camera&lights) (i know how to hide objects) checked for weird keys in wrong places, everything's looks ok. the usual suspects: keys, num pad keys this time; i've hit several misses in that area which includes 'home', 'end', 'pg up&dn' keys. edit already: it's still in the materials, just not showing in render.

i have a complexe model thats set to a grid of 5X5 and have a circle with 8 points , the whole lathe thing , but i need it to be connected to a specifing point as to not and seams , is there a way to select say the bottom point and snap it to point A with the others folowing but the circle not being destorted

Ok so I redid my model of my penguin because for some reason it became corrupt but no matter i like this model better.... I'm having trouble though getting his skeletal structure right though. Cause every time he is in the action tab everything is just screwed up.... any suggestions?? As of right now im using the skeletal rig that came with Version 13 but should I just make one of my own? here is what he looks like

Hi, I wanted to stamp a decal on my character, but she had a light list already. Decal was nothing special, targa with alpha also tried without (it made no difference)... and suddenly.. she was in darkness. No light list. Anyone else have this problem? Using 12.0q for Mac 10.3.4. Seana
