-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

1st... How are ppl rendering to get that polished movie look? 1080p/multi pass? 2nd... I use VGA or low and final for my rendering. a 32 second clip takes 2hrs on low/preveiw. My question is. Will a faster system speed the process. I currently have a 1+MHZ duel core with 2+mb of ram and a 1g video card. How much will a faster system speed up the rendering process? Thank you to all that reply.

Hi-- I just upgraded to v12 and am trying to weather a model. The online help says to right-click the model and a weathering dialog box will appear, but I'm seeing no such thing. What am I missing? Thanks for any help. I'm sure more stupid questions will follow!

ok this would be easyer to explain to some one who has played the game "Sword of the stars" one of the playable races called the "liir" ( or as i like to call "Space fishy") anyways there ships have a unique way of moving in such that they teleport forward bit by bit hundereds of times a minute giving a flickering effect , i was woundering if there is a way to make a model flicker in and out like that with out having to set its transperancey every .5 of a frame.

Okay, I'm wandering into new territory again and need some help. :-) I'm working on a shot for the Christmas greeting I'm doing and I want to do a focus switch ...to transition from one character to another. So, I've turned on Depth of Field in the camera and set it up. When I do a preview render with no multipass, I get exactly what I would like. Foreground character is in focus, and background character and set are nicely out of focus. But when I do a multipass render, not so good... With more passes (say 9), there's almost no blurring at all. Is there a trick to this?

Heya all, any advice on the best way to do moving eyeballs? Either make the "white" of the eyes one with the rest of the face (no blinking on this model) and just have the "iris" move around or creat the eyeball and iris as one and have the entire globe rotate. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Rich

So I set up a Dynamic constraint in an action and it is working very well. But when I go to render it, there is no constraint in the resulting render. Do I need to run some kind of simulation or bake it to get it to show up in the render? How might one get this to work?? Detbear

I have an elaborate choreography with several different characters walking and talking, one is even flying. As one character walks near another, I want him to wave hello to the other. But, when I try to apply the keyframes for the hand, that hand removes itself from the walk cycle and no longer swings by his side, from that frame on. Is there a way to throw in this quick series of keyframes and then return that hand to the walk cycle?

Hello, I've been using Master for a while, but there's one thing that I still find tedious, and that's texturing my models, which probably means that I'm somehow doing it the wrong way. Here's an example -- I'm creating a piece of lumber, a 2x6 board 8 feet long. I want to texture all six sides of it with a wood texture. For simplicity's sake, I want to apply the same wood texture to each side. There are several ways that I know to do this. One is to select the whole model, and then drag&drop a texture onto it. This "stretches" the texture to fit the model. The 8 ft long side of the 2x6 gets a long skinny version that's all stretched out, and the narr…

I have an object that has a decal applied to it. I would like to know if it is possible to make it fade away over a period of time. should i use an action? Should i set that up in the choregraphy? I am kind of lost on this one. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks. Pierre

Not sure where I should post this, there are sssoooo many places. I did a search but got a million hits. I am probably over looking something simple, but for some reason I am unable to make splines. I hit the "a" key and get the cursor and the "+" but no splines. I have saved and closed, shut down and still no splines. I did open a fresh project and was able to create splines there, reopen my orginal project...no splines. At this point there are no decals, colors or any thing else. I have version 12t. I am creating a StarTrek look-a-like space ship. I have built 3 tubes, and was trying to creat the saucer. Any ideas or do I need to provide more info. Many thanks in …

I was trying to figure out all the stuff from the "Can You Say That" tutorial, but then my sound started to act up. I've checked the actual sound on the computer (good) and my speakers (good too). The thing is, KeeKat was talking, but then I lost audio. I got confused with the dope sheets and ended up making two, so I'm thinking that might be part of the reason. Can anybody help me troubleshoot?

It seems like such an easy thing considering i have already made myself a nice rendition of a small airlane. Now I have been tasked with producing some teaching aids for a map reading course and I was simply taking a contour map image of a hill, rotorscoping it, then applying what I rotoscoped as a decal. Well it doesn't seem to like that. I did a test with a photo just for practice and it worked fine. But now that I am trying to actually do what I thought I could, no luck. The decal just disappears. I am using A:M 11.1

I am trying to get the effect of a light shining through a doorway into a very large dark room. The doorway won't be visible, but that seemed like the easiest way to change the light cone's shape from a circle to a rectangle. The problem I'm having is that if I turn volumetric on for the light, then the light rays are visible as they cut through the air in the dark room (which is what I want), but the doorway does not block any of the light. If I turn on shadows for the light, then the doorway blocks the light as I want but now the light cone is no longer visible. How do I get both shadows and volumetrics to work at the same time?

Hi all, I am thinking about buying AM. Love what I see so far. I have been using POSER and from the looks of things AM is much faster and better at everything. Hand down! I am most interested in taking client's faces and sticking them in Caricature 3D commericals. Here is an example. http://www.horsepowerads.com/ In Poser there is a feature that allows you to take a front photo and side photo and the program will map them into a new face for your model. Is there a feature like that in AM? Thanks for the help! GREAT forum too! -TV

I've installed A:M on a second computer, and ordered a second license. When I try to start A:M on that computer, I can't even get it to start - I only get this error: "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.". Reinstalling does not fix the problem. Restarting doesn't either. I can't even find any Master.lic file to delete. Apparently this file has not been created yet. Running XP.

I started to build another pseudo-WWI tank. The lower hull uses a stamped steel pattern. Each section is a closed six-sided box. Each side of each box has been individually selected and all other CP's hidden, and the steel pattened decaled on. All twelve sides should look alike. The project has been saved many times. However, upon re-starting A:M and opening the project, or, sometimes after a freeze-up and re-start, some sides will look smeared...as though the decal had been applied to one side without hiding the rest of the box. On this example, the side of the lower box is smeared fore and aft, while the bottom is smeared left to right. The other side. and the front and…

Ok, I fully intended to buy the 2007 current version from the Hash website. I had tried to purchase on e-bay and lost at last second of bid time. Well unknown to me untl it was too late my wife put a bid on another copy of Animation Master 2006, which was described as "new in Box" and "This is what you would buy from Hash for 299.00" She did this for me for Fathers Day, and so she was just trying to do something for me. And I was excited to be able to get the program before I expected. Ok, now it came in the mail yesterday. The box is in great shape, their are two cds, one is Yeti character AM cd. The other is Extras CD volume one. The large box it came in had only…

My students and I are doing an alien invasion of our school. Question: we want to compose things in After Effects so what we want to do is render out only the aliens and ships in Animation Master. How do we get the front projection maps not to render out but keep the models that pass behind them blocked? For instance, when a ship passes behind our school building, how do we get the render to not show the portion of the ship passing behind the school (our front projection map) without rendering the projection map or it's objects? I've been through these tutorials, Ed explains multiplane rendering but not this particular issue. http://www.hash.com/users/ed/…

Here's an animation I created to try to help out Technodandy in going from path animation to breaking from the path and continuing with a choreography action. Here's the finished product. I didn't make it perfect. Also, after seeing how cool it looked I wondered if I could modify the Hash Rabbit and give him a superman (or bunny in this case) costume. It was relatively easy to make the costume so here it is. It's not great but still pretty cool. Here are the steps I did for the animation. I'm sure there are a few things I could have done differently (like use blend to match up the path actions) but I at least accomplished my goal. I took the walk cycl…

My husband purchased A:M from a "Comdex" show back in "03/04". He never had the time to put into learning A:M so it sat in its box on the shelf till last week when we gave it to my son. I would like to update it using the downloadable updates on the Hash site. So my silly question is... Being that the version we have is from 03/04 should I download all update versions from 04-06? Will downloading Animation:Master v12.0v contain everything in previous updates? Thanks for your patience, Kayellen

I created a company logo using AM and would like to export it so that I can import my model into Digital Image Pro so that I can work with there gradient tools. Is there a plug-in out there that I can use to export an AM model into a picture format such as .png, .jpg, .bmp? Or for another imaging program such as AI? As of right now I have been using screen print platinum to take a screen shot of my images. If AM can import files from other programs such as AI, should we be able to export the models as an AI file also. Nicole

Is there a place I can go to learn more about how to model and set up things like tubes sliding around circular rods, making cymbals flop around on a stand when struck by a drum stick without the stick passing through the cymbal, making machine type assemblies rotate on an axle without sliding through the axle. The learning experience has been hard for me, but I am determined to learn no matter how long it takes. Thanks in advance! Tony

Hi all, I've had AM since v8.5 and have always marvelled at how easy it is to assign cps to bones, add fan bones, smartskin, etc... My question is why can't you do it the same way in a poly program (C4D, LW, etc...)? I am just curious here, trying to understand. It seems that it would be so much easier to lasso select a bunch of points in a poly program and assign it to a bone. The problem would of course be subdivisions (right?). But wouldn't it be feasible to say use the model in "isoparm" mode (less subdivision). assign the points to the bones and then subdivide after. The software would then extrapolate the extra points from subdividing with reasonable results. Jus…

Hi, I'm having a little trouble with my model. I have 2 copies of A:M, snce I upgraded once. So I keep the new one(2006) in my desktop, and the old one(2004 CD with update for 2005) in my laptop. But now I have the problem because I need to work on my model on my laptop, but it won't work with older versions of the program. Does anyone know how I can transfer it, I tried exporting it to another format but it messed up the bone structure and I lost my pose sliders. If not, does anyone know how I can use version 13 on both computers without moving the CD back and forth?

First off, I'm using A:M 2002 so this might be a non issue for a more recent release. I plan to upgrade eventually. I'm sure my methods are a bit roundabout, but since I'm currently lacking a decent graphics editing program at the moment, this is how I went about it. 1: Using MS Word 2003, I typed out the text, and formatted it as desired. (Center, italics, etc) 2: "Printed" out to "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" to produce a TIF file. However, A:M 2002 does not like the TIF file generated this way, so I continue to the next step. 3: I used Paint to convert the TIF file to JPG. Letters look solid and the way I like it. 4: JPG loads in A:M i…
