-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I was really disappointed to find that about 98%+ of the character models on the Extras DVD did not have Phomnems(sp) created for them. You know, the pose sliders for speech. Is it really difficult to make those myself? Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains how to create pose sliders for, I'm assuming, muscle movement?

Was curious to learn how many folks have found this to be a useful resource. I know it has lots of models etc but wondered how many folks use things from it or not. I was contemplating purchasing it but was not sure.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to make the extrusion come out in a straight line and not go up like in the picture, I checked and tweaked some settings but nothing works. extrude.bmp

I'm following the modeling tutorials in the new David Rogers book, and I'm trying to extrude a cube. Easy, right? Well, when I'm in the front view and I try and extrude the four cps, instead of extruding them outwards, it just makes another square right beneath. When I change to the perspective view the square gets extruded, but it's all cockeyed. Any help or pointers out there? Thanks Sruli

I am trying to work on the face exercise but when I extrude the first set of splines they end up back in the models skull or right in front of his face instead of along the front of the face. I am sure I am doing something silly wrong, but I just cant figure out what.

Alright, anyways i got my subscription to work without the weird clock problem. So i tried modeling something out to fit my style. Anyways i came out with some cartoony looking eyeballs. But i want them to look good. How do i get the textures on and stuff. Also how can i make a black pupil on the eyeballs. and then how can i color it.??? Heres the picture of the eyeballs in progress
Last reply by AMkyle, -
To make the texture of my eyeballs, I just use the one that is already in the program. (The one under Toon Nation). Everytime I use this the pupils never show up. The only time that the pupil does show up is when i make only one eyeball. I really need help on this.

Heya all, any advice on the best way to do moving eyeballs? Either make the "white" of the eyes one with the rest of the face (no blinking on this model) and just have the "iris" move around or creat the eyeball and iris as one and have the entire globe rotate. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Rich

Hi. I am trying to find information re: eyes. I understand how to make spheres and modify them to look like eyeballs. How do you make them more realistic? Decals? Materials? I appreciate the help. V 12.0

As I mentioned before I'm working on a new comic that we want to add around the first of the year. I'm trucking along with the models which are pretty much just letters with arms and legs but I had a question or two. Is there a good set of large, expressive eyes (something cartoonish like Keekat or Mickey Mouse) with the bones and maybe some presets out there that I could paste into these models without too much difficulty (and without any problems with me using the eyes for commercial applications)? I did my TAO lessons on adding a rig but that was a really basic lesson and I've not been about to figure out how to add things like EYE Targets or even complex joints …

Where are the instructions for adding a camera to point to a model's face? The manual that comes with AM 2006 talkes about using multiple camers but I cannot find any instructions to accomplish placing a face camera. Can someone help get started or point me to a place with instructions? Thanks.

Hi I just can't get through the manuals - it's not my best way of learning, and the software I have doesn't really match what's in the manual - and i want to do stuff not covered in the manual. The best way for me to learn is to spend time with an expert. If there's an Animation Master Master in the UK, ideally within the Thames Valley, that would be prepared to help with questions and take me through what i want to do and answer the questions I have, I'd really really really appreciate it. Please email me neil@fairbrother.net Thanks and best regards Neil

I'm new to A:M so naturally I jumped in over my head and started a big project. My WIP is a music video. I have a 2d model of a stage with some scenery in the background. I'm trying to fade the background to black (as the sun sets) and leave the stage lit up. I thought I could just make a black background behind the scenery then slowly make the scenery transparent with a pose slider, but it didn't work. I searched the forum and my manuals I have but haven't found anything to help. Any ideas?

Hello - I have a decal on an object (tooth) the tooth has a gradient decal image I created applied to it. I created a pose slider that I want to be able to have at 0 with the decal percentage set at 0 and then at 100 have the decal percentage at 100. So it would fade the decal in and out when moving back and forth. What it is doing is making the whole tooth transparent when you slide it to 0 - but it is the "decal" image that I am appying the percentage to - does anyone know what I am doing wrong and what it doing it to the whole tooth and not just the decal? Thanks for any help - Eric

I am doing a project where I am going to have the letters of a word fall out of a hat. I need each letter to react to each other, bounce on the ground and then form a word. I would like to know what would be the best way to approach this effect ? I take it that I would need each letter to be collidable and have mass but I have never explored AM Physics before except to animate a flag. Is there a tutorial that would be a good one to work through ? Pinballwzd...

I'm working through Barry Zundels videos on charactor rigging. The videos are from 2005 so that raises a few questions. Fan bone = cosmetic bone, I believe these are the same but just different naming. Correct? Control bones, naming has not change, Correct? With the advent of smartskining and cp weighting how important is it still to add a lot fan bones and control bones. I know that smartskin and cp weighting can't care of everthing but in Barry's tutorials he sure has a lot of different fan bones(cosmetic) and control bones. Do you still have to add that many or now can you reduce the number of fan and control bones with the use of smart skin and cp weight…

Hi, I'm starting to use A:M again having left 3D behind and returned to 2D. Now I'm determined to crack it. Previously I had managed to build models, but rigging was where I fell down. I now finally have my head around fan bones and have got them working successfully in the relationships window. Trouble is, if I create a new action or choreography using the model, the fan bones are there, but no longer have any effect. I'm sure there's a simple explanation, but I've tried all sorts of things. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi - I have no idea what I am doing, but the fire tutorial and a couple hours of playing around got me to the point of having the jet engine fire for my fan character I'm working on. In any endeavor we seek feedback. We look at things from a variety of angles. We poke and prod at ideas. We test new theories. We plan for success. We hope for feedback. And when we get no feedback... that's feedback! Discovery is at the heart of the learning process. Feedback helps us discover what works. As an artist, animator or storyteller recognize how feedback is essential to success. Look for opportities to provide feedback and encourage others in their endeavors. You'll be glad you did. I followed the online tutorial for it's a pitch. I tried it with the skeleton as well as the knight and I have the same response (twice with both character's). When I set the frame 18 pose and use the slider to see the animation, both feet end up in the air between frame one and thirteen. It looks like the charter is hurdling. Its appears that it didn't regester the foot placement in frame ten. I can go back an replace the foot but I have to do it on a number of frames establish foot contaqct on the ground. I am using v12q. I don't have the inverted knee problem others have discussed. I did set the balance and balance riged to 0 per the tutorial. Any ideas??
