GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Almost Christmas and already Christmas cards are landing on my doormat and I expect I’ll find some digital Christmas e-card in my email box any time soon. I've had a look for the answer, with no luck. Your site says I can get the cd ver and it can be used on different computers. What does that mean? I have 4 computers at home, they are all different, can I install it to all of them? And for that matter, my friend has a different computer, can I install it there. This where i came until today on my model adaptation from LW.To be honest I m a bit disappointed about how things came.Splines modeling need serious preparation and planning to have honorable result.I m not a good modeler, but spline are the most difficult because you need to control a lot of parameters bias,magnitude?alphas,Gammas, tension !! what s this !! i ve posted the Wip for everybody have a look.If any one (the pros ! I am putting together a choreography in which a character climbs up a steep wall. The trouble that I am having is when I go to move a foot higher the body and more specifically the arms do not stay in place. Is there a way of locking down the hands and the right foot while I move the left? Thanks, Redwings

Hello - Perusing WillP's post on CloneDisc issues in the FAQ forum I thought I'd ask what the procedure is to load A:M on either my HD or a memory stick so that I can run the software without loading the CD. Is this what programs like CloneDisc are for? What is the best solution? Thanks, Chris

Hello, I am working on the Flower tutorial and the tutorial talks about using a tilby key or clicking the right and left buttons on the mouse simultaneously to close the leaves. Hi Folks I have been studying Cloth and Newton Dynamics. I have been very productive results and am amazed at the power behind both of them. I have a puzzle I am trying to solve. For a few short shots in my presentation I have a parachute carrying some cargo to the surface. I was thinking because the cargo is very heavy and large that instead of cables connecting the cargo to the parachute I would use chains. I have been practicing creating chains with Newton and its very easy and works great. You get a huge payoff for little effort. I’m having some issues with an “Ork” flag banner I’m creating. The banner is hanging from a “T” shaped pole similar to the following image. On top of the banner I will be modeling a skull with hair tied in a very long ponytail sticking out on top slightly backwards. But for now, it`s a sphere with one patch with a very dense amount of hair. The banner (or Cloth) I’ve under control, the pole is setup as deflector and the cloth will not pass through it. Hi there! Yesterday I tried the cloth tutorial. Now I had the idea to use the cloth simulation to create primitive Hair for a simple character. But the results where not appropriate. At least I do not know If i should assign the points of the hair to the head bone or if they should stay with the main bone of the character. But if I do the last thing, they won't move with the head. Any ideas? I try to attach the project file Modulvorspann2.prj

hello again... why does my deflector material deactivate other materials on the group? i have a group, the body of my character, it has a skin-material on it... then i created a group for the deflector material, containing large parts of cps of my body group... when i drag the deflectormaterial on my deflectorgroup this part turns white, its no longer skin-colored.... please help, it´s drivin me nuts....

sorry for bothering you all again, i wanted to start an experiment with cloth simulations, i have a character with shorts on that should be cloth simulated. i created two materials, one cloth and one deflector... i put the cloth to a group of the pants except the belt-area, the whole body of the character except the head is the deflectorgroup... the whole pants-group is attached to the pelvis-bone. when i start the simclothsimulation in my choreography, all cps of my pants exept the beltsection and the one splinering of the clothmaterialgroup snap to one position!!! i attached some screenshots, maybe someone can figure out what did wrong... thanks agan...

I created a model. A wedding suit. I have a question about how do I get the jacket and pants to follow the arms and the legs when the character starts walking. If I have the character walking. It jumps out of the suit. How do I avoid this from happening. I just started modeling and I would like to learn to animate. I apreciate your help.

I followed the flag waving exercise...no problem, BUT, when I created a character and try to get her dress to work via cloth sim, etc., when I get to the part where I'm supposed to pick "attached" group, there isn't one.... I added a screen shot below... Thanks for anyone's help. Kem

Hi, I try to render but when i do it says : Avistreamsetformaterror, most lile caused by a codec compresssor that does not support 24 bit data. I know I have a lot of codes installed, but do i have to install codec into A:M? Or does anyone know what this can be? I could render the scen as tga images but not as avis. Another question is if there is some additional download I should do? I cant find the same assets as i se in the tutorial movies.

I'd like to collect a few Cameras to add to the Extra DVD as it seems like it might be a great resource to explore. In particular I'm interested in collecting a variety of render styles with settings for people to examine on the DVD. If you have an old project laying around gathering dust you can import it into v13 and see what settings are there. If its a keeper save the camera as an external .CAM file and share it here. Hi - I created a blobbies material/emitter with one attribute w/ a diffuse color of white - for some reason I am getting small black specs that I don't want in there. It is supposed to be teeth shaving from a dental drill. I want them to be white/lite grey. I also have a 90% transparency set. Hi hopefully this makes sense without posting pictures. if it doens't, i'll post some. but here's the latest problem of mine: I have a hair material I made, applied it to the eyebrows and ponytail of my character. I imported my character's decals, changed the image to diffuse color etc. the eyebrows worked perfectly, the hair picked up the color. but for some reason, the ponytail part stays pure white. any ideas? thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm trying to make this model's mouth, but as you can see on the left side, it sorta dies down to a grey-er shade, I'm trying to keep it as look-alike as much as possible, is there a way to, say, start as a color and have it slowly change into another at some point? Another thing, I don't necessarily know how to use Photoshop, nor do I have any drawing talents whatsoever. Latent or potent. And rather than draw a mouth, eye, anything really that isn't 3D and make it a decal on a model, I basically just draw it with splines, render as lines and add colors to it. Heres a newbie question. I'm looking for a simple way to combine sequences of targa images into a single image in A:M. I realize I can create something manually but that is problematic especially when the variables change (say I need to combine 50 sequential images the next time, 20 the next... whatever). I thought maybe a subframe technique might work but I'm not sure exactly how to do that with images. Each image needs to be full strength... not blurred. I still have problems when I combine some cctions together. For example if a character walks into a scene I can use a walk action already there. Then the character stops and does something else. For that i use the choreography action. Maybe I want to move the arm of the character. But when I change something after the other acrion there is always an animation created from the begining untill the point where i first move the charcters arm. This always distorts the walk action. What is the usual workflow when combining choreography actions with reusable actions?? I didn't get it right. Thanks for your help!

Ok, Rodney's topic brought up something I've been scratching my head about for a while now. I'm rendering out displacement maps for footprints. The displacement maps render fine, but now come the next step. I need to combine the frames so the footprints "add up". I'll try to say this simple and clearly. Hi, I have a problem combining two or more animated clips into one sequence. I am having Shaggy walking towards camera (clip #1 created by using one of the standard actions shipped with A:M, with repeats adjusted to 5 cycles while Shaggy moves towards the camera) and once he stops saying few sentences (Clip #2 created by creating a new 'action' and dropping a prerecorded sound file on Shaggi). Both clips work fine when created in separate projects but I can not put them in one project under one chor in one sequence (walking -> talking), the animation stops after 1 second, the chor length is set to 12 to include the sound file. Hi, I'm not an AM user - yet - but I intend to be soon. However, my main interest at the moment is to purchase AM to use for modeling my company's products in domestic situations. That is, to use AM as a home-design program that can do beautiful and life-like renderings.
