Some soft body effects can be done with Simcloth. PRJ: SpringCloth005 SIMMED.prj Cloth set to "Springs" and suitable stiffness will try to return to its original shape after being deformed. The outer edge of the grid is an Attach Group, to prevent the cloth from being knocked away. @ivanbryan82

I think I've found an anomaly in the way cookie cut maps with alpha channels (which is the only way I use them) render specular highlights. My test map is shown below, an out of focus ellipse. I applied this as a color decal to a blue, four patch plane as a TGA file with an alpha map based on luminance so it should appear as a fuzzy white oval. The blue plane had a white specular color with size and intensity equal to 33%. In the top half of the following image are screen renders (9 pass) of the plane as seen from four different viewing angles; 20 deg. off perpendicular, 15 deg., 10 deg. and 0 deg. or normal to the plane. There was a lot of interest in the Cap Your Mo, Summer Mo-Cap Challenge! The most frequent question I got was, "Do I really have to show myself in the video?" "Why, of course!" I'm working on my very first human walk cycle. (My hat's off to anyone who gets a believable cycle without days (weeks?!) worth of tweaking.) I have a vague memory that there used to be switch that compensated for the fact that the first and last frames of the cycle are identical. I don't remember what its name was and can't find a reference to anything like it. Is this still a thing?

Please load the PRJ and tell me if "Happy New Year.wav" show its waveform in the Chor. Can you hear it if you scrub the chor timeline? Then import "slurp2.wav" and drag it into the Chor. Does it show? What version of A:M are you on, including the version letter? SoundTest001.zip

I hope I'm asking this in the right place ? It might sound odd but, is there a way to change the way joints are listed in the action and choreo files. Not the names but the way the hierarchy is listed at the side ? At first I thought it was the order on which the bones were selected at first but. Last night I spent two hours pushing CPs around in a new Pose, then i saved my model again. Then I noticed I hadn't been working in a Pose window, I had been moving the CPs in the model window! There's no amount of pressing "undo" that would save that situation. Fortunately I always save in incrementally numbered versions with brief descriptions of what was just done so it was easy to go back to the last version of the model before I made that ghastly error. I rarely need to go back to my old versions but about two or three times a year I'll do something spectacularly bad like that and I'm glad they are there.

It use to be that if you dragged a cp onto a spline in a space with no cp.......and then right clicked.....it would make a hook. However, I'm noticing now that in V 17, it makes a cp point on the spline instead. How or what is the process to force a hook instead? Thanks so much William

When I first upgraded to V17 I happened to mention to the very nice sales guy that I was getting a new notebook in a week so I was going to wait until it came in. He said 'no, go ahead, put on your current notebook and when the new one comes in we'll just switch it to that'. I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE WAITED. I've followed the instructions, sent them the numbers but, I've trying for days and I cannot get anyone to send me a new activation number and...I'm sick in bed and I need it.

In 2012 this has changed: Now there is a trial-version of A:M again! The "new" trial-version is a fully functional version of Animation:Master v17 (32 or 64 bit) which will run for 14 days. Can someone confirm that Sweeper is working for them in v17a? It isn't sweeping as desired here. It's probably a stray setting but I believe I've tested everything and still don't get a standard sweep. It appears to be lathing instead of sweeping. Edit: Isn't it always the case... doesn't work until you post to the forum and then... BAM! It's working fine. False alarm. Not sure what I was doing on this end but all appears to be working now.

I appreciate that it is possible to control a light in a chor using the properties in the PWS and thats the way I've done it before. I wondered if it was possible to control those same properties, such as intensity, cone angle, fall of and so on, using pose sliders ? I tried in the actions section but it was not possible to select the lights, or the camera to try to make the poses. Its not a problem, I just thought it might animating them easier in the chor? regards simon

A question for anyone whose has worked through some of the exercises in "Animation:Master - A Complete Guilde" by Rogers, 2007: In chapter 4, "Action Basics", on animating the flour sack in an Action window, after you lay down the basic "hopping" animation, the author instructs you to refine the action using Muscle mode and doing some overshoot of the "ears". The idea is to use the "group" tool to select a single CP at the tip of the ear, and then use the "rotate manipulator" to lag the ear behind the fast motion of the torso. OK, I have a path (a spline with 3 CP's) I have constrained my Camera to the path (Path Constraint) and I have also contrained the camera to aim at a null. Camera jumps to the path and travels along it BUT only travels 1/2 between the first and second CP (100% enforcement at chor end) BUT it also behaves like it is pointing at the null as if it has travelled the full length of the path. Obviously I am missing something here... Partially solved. Chor length was set too long. Edit - Fixed by deleting the path and camera constraints then doing it again.... Not sure what went wrong but it's working now.... Cheers

So I learned my lesson never leave home with out a laptop. I'm sorry for the delay in getting the fix installed. But everything is fixed and running like it should. I should have been able to fix it from my phone but the last software update disabled the 'shift' key in a lot of apps I use. Which is not the best for working in a OS that is case sensitive. Once again sorry for the long outage.

Hi there, now i am in big trouble: I "recovered" my pc, and by doing so, i killed my installed AM as well as the install files, and i have noting left at all. Basicly its the very same computer, because no hardware changes, just that recovery thing. My AM licence was good for another 9 month. Is there a way how that can be fixed again? Best regards Heiner

It's been a while since I've done this - I have a string of tga files (0000 - 0600) and want to apply them as a moving decal. As I recall, I only have to apply the first in the series, and the rest will follow automatically. It doesn't seem to be working - the image stays frozen on the first frame. I've put a few of them in the decal folder, thinking perhaps they need to be there and not just in the images folder, but that is not working either. I made an action, wherein the object the decal is applied to moves slightly, but still no luck. I've looked for the subject in the techref manuel but can't find it. Perhaps also someone could let me know where it is in the m…

I have a laptop with an Optimus chipset, that can switch back and forth between an integrated GPU and a Quadro 2000. I have noticed that there are some problems when scrubbing through a timeline, it seems like it is dropping frames (Robcat knows what I'm talking about). Is this a known issue with integrated graphics? Or maybe it is something with the way optimus switches between the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU. I hate to completely disable the integrated GPU, it will kill my battery life. Is anyone else out there experiencing problems with integrated GPUs on laptops?

I have a figure pushing a large heavy sphere. Keyed the basic poses and timing and ready to start refining it. A problem at the moment is that the hands penetrate the mesh of the sphere when the pushing position changes. Is there a way to prevent this, other than keying it every other frame to prevent it. Is there a constraint that can be used or, might editing the curves do it ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Hi, For reasons I can't figure out after days of struggling, a project created and originally rendered in V14g looks way different when rendered in the latest AM version and I just need to change a few seconds of the scene and insert it but it must look the same as the existing video. I should have had a copy of V14c but I must have lost it when I lost a disk a year ago. I need to find a copy of AM V14g to install to render this scene. Have had a couple of hitches in the past few weeks with actions in V17g under OSX, but had thought they were resulting from exporting a sequence from a chor, as an action. Trying to setup an action now for some prancing sacks and, although the keys will set in the PWS, and the scroll tool will move through them. The play option won't work and the button that lets you move along the timeline is completely absent. Is this a known problem ? regards simon V17g OSX

Hi guys, I don't know exactly where we're supposed to post feature requests so I'll post it here and if it's wrong I'm sure Rodney can move it and I apologize in advance if this is the case. Anyway I've been messing about with cloth a lot recently on one of my models and testing it can be a very lengthy process. Often a few frames in if something isn't set up properly the cloth with go nuts but continue to simulate. At this point you can either wait for it to finish in a jumbled mess (or reach a point where it cannot solve the simulation) or force close A:M altogether and reload. Working with V18b on a Mac Mini running OSX10.85 noticing a few quirks and wondered if they were Mac related ? For example, when using quick render, either area or full screen, the screen goes blank as the render goes through,there is no progress bar at the bottom of the window, the clock timing the render is not visible, nor the text which denotes the stage at which its going through, eg"anti aliasing pass...". That is not a real problem but it would be good to see them all as I'm used to it and can check it going it going through. When we are at Comic Con 2014 I'm going to set up a webcam or maybe 2 to send images to our site. I'm hoping that we have enough bandwidth for it. The more bandwidth we have faster the refresh will be. Have a bit more work to do The page maybe as simple as a timed refresh but I'm hoping to have time to set up a 'on file touch' refresh where the page just refreshes when a new image is sent. Right now it's set up to send 1280x720 images but if we have bandwidth issues(which happen a ton at shows this big) I will try dropping the image size so you can still get images. Anyone that will be there we can not wait to see you!

So I got the Webcams in the mail today. Even though they listed at 'HD' they are not. they are only 640. We are not going to be using them for Comic Con. It's just to much work to bring them for how bad the picture is. The problem is most software using the cam resolution but the cams we bought native resolution is really poor. We are going to try to(but sometimes that can not happen) upload every night to facebook and http://www.hash.com/stills/ also check out our facebook because everyone there will have a email to upload all the pictures they take with their phone to https://www.facebook.com/animationmaster. For some reason I can't post in the thread where Walter originally posted his question about A:M's licence not being recognised. So... Yes I got that too after installing 18g. All I did to fix it was copy/past my current licence back into A:M again from my v17g version, (or you could copy/past it from any backup you have) and then relaunched A:M. If it's relevant I'm on OSX Mountain Lion still.

Right now I am working quite a lot with snap to surface, because i am recreating one of my bigger polygon modells. I found some minor problems : Snap also reacts to hidden geometry. That should not happen. Snap has a tendency to snap to geometry on the other side of the model. The bluprint modell as well as to the spline geometry. In case of the blueprint it should be not so hard to fix that by checking the orientation of the surrounding normals. In case of the spline geometry i dont know ... Maybe it is posssible to look in these issues (at least its issues to me). Regards Heiner

Working in V17g with OSX 10.68 Got back to trying to finsh Ska Lake, spent the last two days correcting for the new model,it seemed to work ok and intended to go back today to start adjusting te detail poses and timing. Using the 2008 rig. `For some reason (?) the keys don't appear to set in the PWS when the bones are moved. It was working as normal yesterday but curious things today. OK, trying my hand at TaoAM since it has been some time since I last played with AM and in exercise 5, using rabbit, I am trying to mirror keyframes BUT it appears the paste Mirror does not work on Nulls (hip and feet for example). This will not effect any thing with Hash, Inc. really but we have a new NAS for our back up systems. We are now moving the data to there(form older machines with less stable raids).
