hello hashers, yesterday i started a new big project, i´ll need your help here the next few weeks, technical and motivational i guess here´s the thing: a friend of mine wich is a music producer came to me with a veeeery cheesy and catchy song and asked if i could make a 3d-video for that so we can sell it to a big provider for mobile-phone ringtones here in germany... at this moment the no. one hit there is a music video with a little rabbit and his carrot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muADLVPjq8 ... this thing even did it to the top10 here... unbelievable... so we thought, hey, why not try this by ourselves. i already talked to the provider, the condition…

Hi all I need some help on how to separate a photo into 2 parts and then, how to use the 2 new images with AM to create the effect of a model in the original photo. photo 1 An example would be of Victor Navone and his model in front of his computer. photo2 I have worked with Photoshop for several years but never messed with masks or alpha channels so does anyone know where I can find a simple tut. on how to separate the fence? Then to create a project in AM with 2 layers and my model?

I've always liked the squash and stretch look of the Veggie Tales character's eyes and wondered how to do it in A:M. There were several posts on this forum showing how it was done with distortion boxes so I gave it a try. Very cool... then it made me wonder if the same technique on a generic round character head would make it easy to generate a bunch of unique characters very quickly without having to do any rerigging or remodeling (other than a new distortion box). After a little experimentation I came up with a design that works pretty well in most deformations - except for really extreme stretches. The example video shows one model instanced three times in t…

Tried to make some photorealism... Well just newbie photorealism Thanks to Mr Talbot for the model and the education Sure there are better students But perhaps this is the future a virtual Michael J in everyones living room Sure you have to use your VISA-card first but then he steps in to your own Holoverse http://www.holoverse.com/ Or shall we make some Iconoclasm? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iconoclasm Stop rendering the living and the dead? The question is for sure not so easy to answer. But think about it - feel about it? Comments welcome!

Here is one more model from the movie 2001 - A Space Odyssey. It is the Moonbus, used to ferry the scientific team from the Clavius moonbase out to the Tycho crater where the monolith was found. I remember having the Aurora plastic kit of it when I was in my teens. Found some blueprints for the moonbus, as well as some excellent photographs of master model builder Martin Bower building a studio sized model. Al

A scene of my short shows my character looking into a mirror and making some faces, but I realized that when rendering to file the reflected hair is totally different from the original. This does not happen when I render to screen, and the funny part is that the lenght of the hair is the property most affected! The scene shows a small part of the head from back with the hair like it's supposed to be, but for some reason reflected it's totally different, it hardly comes out of the head!!! It must be some kind of bug or so, can somebody explain and help me resolve this problem!!! I'm using A:M 10.5

Hello, Have to make a new model... I like the model I made before, but I need to cut down on the amount of patches... so I redesigned the male model. Cutting down on patch count- I didn't find out this until I was mostly done- means you HAVE to use a multitude of hooks and 5- and 3-point patches. I went from more than 6000 patches (my first model) to nearly 3000 (this model)... I only have half done... havn't CFA'd, yet. I still have to do the inside mouth... then I'll be done... one more day! wireframes :

Heres the beginnings of a Demon model I'm working on for a client. the Head will be radically different. It will be more based on a chaos beastman from Warhammer, but the body is just about there. I'd like critiques to help me make it better. The info I got on the superhero thread was invaluable and I'm hoping for more of the same here. Here is a link to a 360... http://www.colins-loft.net/free/examples/Demon/DemonBody.htm and here is a link to a pic with very very rough hair on the legs.. did I mention it was rough? Any constructive input is greatly appreciated. C

Well! Trying not only to have fun... animating. Have a look and listen. Your comments are welcome. In modern society people get burnedout also on vacations. Perhaps it is media... burning us out? We - six billion communicating by electric media - hypnotized most of us of media electrified. Not as the way we have lived for seven million years - in small groups - about a hundred of us in each group - smelling, hugging, boxing, feeling the one you are talking with, listening to. So with all these discussions of group projects and the like, it really has put the bug in me to do a web series of some sort. Before that however, there needs to be an idea and some designing. Now in short, right now I'm sorta just designing a character and seeing if more blossoms from it. Essentially what I'm trying to do, is re-design an old character of mine, Captain Heroic. This time, I'm really trying to go for a simplistic, stylized, adventure hero type look. So with that said, I'm kind of stumped This is just a quick sketch I threw together and hopefully it can be a launchpad for ideas. It would be very helpful and nice if some of you creative folk here co…

Modeling caricatures is not so easy... I have had a try... Here is the result... Who is it? It is not Santa Claus! It is not Gandhi... Have a guess! Now there is only two caricatures on the A:M stills. You can have a search: http://www.hash.com/stills/thumbnails.php?...arch=caricature I believe in more caricatures... something for a newbie to download... and start to play with... why not have a little exchange of caricatures... upploading models! It can be "funny" to let different caricatures have some meeting - Santa Claus, Gandhi and some one else... what will they be talking about? It is up to everyones imagination to decide.

I've had the program over a year now and decided it was finally time to start making films. So, my first one is Hero: Legend of the West. It has a three page script with only two people who speak in it. Well, there are like two incidentals, but they don't count. Now I haven't modeled everything myself, the horse for example is from the CD, so I have to remodel the saddle to a more western style saddle. But, Hero is the very first character I've ever modeled, so be easy on critiquing him. I'm quite proud that I was finally able to build a character, but there are a lot of faults in the model that luckily get covered up by the toon render!! BTW, the pics aren't i…

ddustin and I are collaborating on a project, not so much working together, but helping each other out with tips and techiques, and thought we'd post a message here to get some feedback (suggestions , tips, and/or techniques) as how to proceed. The animation in question would be a short, not really a movie per sae, more of a commercial. The camera opens up onto a small building (very small, appears to be big enough only for a single person to stand inside). On one side of the building is a window with a conveyor belt running out from it, to the back of a delivery truck. packages would be sliding along the conveyor into the back of the truck. A character (…

Here's something I made really quick after seeing one of the animations on the Maxwell website. The topic is in the OT section, you should check it out. Anyways, it made me want to try to mimic liquid with a:m, this is the best I could do but I'm still playing around with it, I'll post some other things later if I get something cool . All it is is a model of a wineglass with a seperate model for the wine with a seperate bone. The wine tilts with the glass because of the bone, but the surface of the liquid is cloth with gravity turned off and a force to give the surface ripples. Its nothing special but it looks cool, although I wish you could see the ripples better…

Hi, guys. It's been a while. 8 month project and not yet over. I've worked with Dr. Eric Drexler to design and animate a nanotechnology device of the future. We are not just making science fiction pictures. This is as real a design as we can make it even though it will be ten years or more before we can build it. Dr. Drexler has three published books in nano and is considered by many to be the father of this industry. He co-founded the Foresight Institute, www.foresight.org The device of this animation is a desktop factory which can take in acetylene, tear it apart and create product from the atoms. I have always been interested in nanotechnology since I read …

Hey Rodney So I wonder if you even remember this little projet. You probably already have your own version done by now anyway, but I thought I'd throw mine out there. She's not finished, mind you, but I haven't had time to work on this kind of thing in a looong time. So here you go: [attachmentid=12908][attachmentid=12909] Maybe you can finish up the bits and pieces (armor, rocket boots etc.)Let me know what you think, and I'll mail the .mdl to you. Javier

Recent YouTube wanderings led me to some videos about 2001, the making of the Star Gate sequence, and so on, which got me thinking… 2001 is among my all-time favorite movies. It is film qua film, not merely a novel thrown up on the screen. I saw 2001 at the Cinerama Theater in LA in 1968, with my college comrade and long-time friend, the late Robert Blalack, who received the VFX Oscar for Star Wars (1977). To say that we were mind-blown would be the understatement of understatements. These days, movie editing programs and software packages usually have some form of the slit-scan effect in their bags of tricks. But why use them when I might be able to re-crea…

Penguins have always been a favorite animal of mine. Perhaps it because they look like they are dressed in formal wear, or maybe it is just that they are physically unable to steal my french fries (unlike one of my least favorite animals: seagulls). Either way, the other day I drew some penguins for a comic (here if you're interested) which got me thinking about penguins once again. So I've decided to try making a basic model of a penguin... mainly because I'm not good enough to make a non-basic model Attached is the 1st step... plan of attack is adding some feet, shaping the head a bit, shaping the rest of the body slightly, fixing the eyes, possibly adding som…

If anyone has payed attention or if ive forgotten to mention the past two years i have made a video for our Thanksgiving Carpetball tournament. Each year it has improved immensly and each year i think i wont be able to out-do myself. But i have once again. I have modeled all the people that will be in the tournament to be involved in the video. I am not the best realistic modeller but i pulled off a neat cartoonish look for everyone. With a few modifications and different outfits and hairdo's i say this turned out pretty awesome. I have also [using the 2001 skeleton rig] rigged all 20 something people. Everything has been done by me and none others . Here a…
