GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

hello again... why does my deflector material deactivate other materials on the group? i have a group, the body of my character, it has a skin-material on it... then i created a group for the deflector material, containing large parts of cps of my body group... when i drag the deflectormaterial on my deflectorgroup this part turns white, its no longer skin-colored.... please help, it´s drivin me nuts....

Hello - I have a decal on an object (tooth) the tooth has a gradient decal image I created applied to it. I created a pose slider that I want to be able to have at 0 with the decal percentage set at 0 and then at 100 have the decal percentage at 100. So it would fade the decal in and out when moving back and forth. What it is doing is making the whole tooth transparent when you slide it to 0 - but it is the "decal" image that I am appying the percentage to - does anyone know what I am doing wrong and what it doing it to the whole tooth and not just the decal? ok this is more of a has this happened to you vs a how do i do this qustion. iv noted that most if not all movies uploaded to the forums are in .mov format ( or quicktime usable) but when ever i try and save as .mov or render as .mov the file never finishes being built , the computer will have a link to it but its a missing file and when trying to save again it keeps giving a file file window and loses the render compleatly forcing me to rerender the whoel lenght of the movie, .avi still works i have quicktime installed so its very anoying

I just upgraded my Animation Master program. I hope It's easier to use this program. I have been practicing on my jety v13, I did all the exerscies that came in the book; But I would like to learn faster. Does anybody know about taking a course on line? The video tutorials are ok. But I need something more explainatory.

Hi folks, I am having some difficulty in using an .mov-file as rotoscope or layer. I can see it working as a sequence in the imagefolder but cant set the range in the chor somehow. Whenever I write some bigger values in there it jumps back to a one frame range. What can I be possibly missing here? Thanks for your help.

OK thanks to all for your help yesterday with applying texture as i have been getting some good results from that. my next questions is hopefully simple i have 2 textures ones is of sand the other soil ( light tan and dark brown) i would like to find a way to have them blend at different amounts so i could create a beach of sorts with stretches of both soils and sand at different rates

Hi, I'm following a pretty cool tutorial on how to make a double helix, but I hit a snag. I don't think I have the same version as the author and I don't know how to twist the helix as he says, I added the link and a pic as reference. Can anyone help me on how to find exactly what he's doing? Or an (simple) alternative I could do? Yearning to learn, I decided it was time to do the Volumetrics tutorial. Images 1 & 2 show my attempt to animate the Fall Off of the Dust per the tutorial. Before setting the fall off, (image 1), right-clicking the Fall Off property shows that the "Use Cache" is set. After changing the fall off to 0 for frame 1, another look at the Fall Off properties shows that the "Constant" is set. Also, under the Drivers/Action Objects/Dust Action Object property, a Fall Off property has been added showing a lock. That was the experience using AM 14.0a. When replicated using AM 13.0l, after setting the frame 1 fall off to 0, the Fall Off property shows "Time Based" …

ok iv been told that by using this constrant you can make it so that a bove can only move in specific directions , i have robotic arm and it has 3 joints 1 goes left and right , while the other 2 are up and down , (think a tarancalas leg) how do i set these up to work correctly as i tried myself but they didnt apperantly kick in

So I'm working on a model for the image contest and for no reason, group connecting (the / key) quits working. Then I create a group and the color is added to the whole model, not just the group I've selected. Then I delete all my groups, and try selecting the whole model, which doesn't select half the points. I lasso them in, and try copy and pasting into a new model window, and I only get half of them pasted. Basically, this model is acting all funky, and I can't understand why. I tried opening some other models, and everything works perfectly on them. I've never had stuff like this happen before, what am I doing wrong? Here's the model so far, if someone els…

Hi - this is odd. I created a character - and put a bone structure in him - tested him in the resolute walk and he worked fine. I turned off the IK Let Setup to smartskin him - did that at several joints - brought him back to the main screen and turned the IK Leg Setup back on. Now when I bring him into an action or chor it is acting as if the IK Leg Setup is not on... when I pull his hips down to the ground his legs remain straight and the whole character moves down. Anyone know what is going on here, I have never had this problem?? Thanks for any help- Eric

I have the 2007 version of A:M. Using 13.0s. On the extras disc, there is a Penguin.mdl. When I bring that into my choreography, 1/2 his body is in the ground. Do I need to "pull" him up or is there a setting to make the "floor" non penetrable?

Hello, I have an idea that would be cool if the people who run the forum could do it. It came to me because I had a newbie question about modeling and being so use to working inthe TWO section of the forum, I'm use to going directly to the subject matter I need help with (I.E TWO Animating if I need animation help, TWO Rigging if I have rigging questions, TWO Modeling, etc) and I noticed there are no sub-topics in the newbie area. My idea is to set up the newbie topic with the same format as in the TWO movie topics. Hey again. The last post I made was about the missile smoke and I got that all worked out. Now I have a new problem. I've made a Mig-17. I've tried to find camo for it, but it's been almost impossible and I've been searching for hours. I'm looking for the camo scheme for Colonel Toon's mig- a Mig camo in the vietnam war. Hi, this is Joe, I just purchased an AM subscription for my Mac, running OSX 10.4.11. It downloaded fine. I tried launching it; I get an AM box that says "System clock has been set back (-40)." It gives me only an option of "OK," which, when I press, the whole AM application shuts itself down. I have checked the computer's clock and everything is fine there. What is going on? Why won't it launch? Very frustrated, Joe

Hey Hashers, I added Volumetric Dust for Exercise 6 but it's rendering with very noticable banding. The Help file says to increase the Quality setting for the Volumetric effect to get rid of the banding, but unless my eyes fail me, I can't seem to see it. Can anyone verify this? I'm not sure if this is a bug or I'm just looking in the wrong place. Here's a picture of what I see for my Volumetric Dust properties. I'm running V13 f. thanks! -Jim

As you can see from left to right, I have a simple Model inside I've created a simple (50% intensity, BTW...) light, then you can see how its represented in the realtime view and more or less that's how I'd like it appears, and finally what I get when I make a Render instead... And (as always ) I don't know if I'm missing something although I have played whit all the options I have found... Well, the case is that if I add a simple Bulb light inside a model, it seems like if this light be added to the "default" light that any model has, so in real time view I obtain that I wanted to get, but when I render I obtain a double? iluminated object... …
