-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

well the fun four days are over, here's the result. a whopping two seconds. on the bus stop theme though the set is not there. this would be the beginning so yes, he just missed the bus. only just animated the hands today, couldn't post without at least an inkling of follow through. arms were the hardest thing to do. the balance i've been at for the longest, have a hearty go! it was very interesting to move the hips in relation to the feet to experiment where he is the most tired, when the motion is the most cumbersome. what's here is not the only thing that worked, but the most "thom organic". a dead tired jogger does his best to not let the hips sink cause …

I'm trying to understand the effects of using different render settings and codecs and found this suggestion in an archived discussion. Can someone tell me what "load the animation in A:M's image folder" means. Is this something I do from within AM, or am I supposed to move the tga folder into one of AM's folders? The closest folder I see to an image folder is one called ImageIOS, but I doubt that's what I'm looking for. Thanks.

am in the mood to upgrade from my Mac Sawtooth to a new computer for video & animation. my Mac is still great for video, but 512 MB Video Cards are more affordable & easily obtainable (as with most hardware/software) with PC's. MacPro's are tempting, but again, which platform is more pliable with the demands of animation?

I had a bit of fun with this one, when I tried to move his left arm it swiveled around all over the place. After studying it for a while I realized I was assigning bones with the left elbow open. I switched that off and re assigned the arm bones and it was o.k. boneless_thom.mov

Hi all - I am having a little problem with constraining an object to a path then making that object start later in the choir - If I make a path - select my object and apply a constrain to path and select the path everything is fine - I can scrub my choir and the object moves along the path - when I adjust the "Ease" so that the object stats further down the path - then scrub the choir - my object no longer moves - if I reset the "Ease" back to "0" and scrub my choir - the object still does not move - the only way I can make the object move is to remove the constrain to path and re apply it. Any help on what I might be doing?? thanks, …

Hey, this is a very "newbie" question, but does anyone know how to change the color or texture of the ground in a choreography? I've tried making grids with control points and then modeling a land scape from that but it doesnt work very well. If anyone could give me any advice or tips that would be great. Masna

Hello, I'm looking to purchase A:M and I was wondering if there were walkthroughs so I can make movies like Conrad Chow's Snapshots or if I could record my nephew being chased by dinosaur. Can you just put that dinosaur into your home movie? or are those guys just too good at animation and they are pro. I have no background in animation but I would like to make those movies just for fun. Thanks in advance. Have a great weekend.

I tried this tutorial of a pumpkin I found online, everything going great until I hit the part where (as far as I got it right) I need to use a gradient to put on my pumpkin like some sort of skin? But the toturial didn't say how to access this gradient menu, and all I got from the Forums is just that. That gradient is some sort of a skin or colour thing I need to apply on my model? I'm using AM 2003 v. 10.5o. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really wanna complete this model since it's my first one and it's lookig pretty kick ass... for a pumpkin... Thanks for the help.

Simple question I'm sure but one that seems to be eluding me...: I am extremely impressed with this software but am having an issue with decal setting onto a model. If I position the decal it sets and looks great. If i save the model for later use, the decals are gone when I re-open the model and I can't figure out why. The file name of the decal still shows in the decals folder, but the image no longer appears on the model. To use the decal in the choreography, I have to first open the model, then open a new choreography, then re-apply the decals individually and then choreograph the production. Not impossible for some simple projects, but mind numbing for the dec…

Today I undertook to lathe a sphere. I made a diagonal spline, lathed it into a cone, deleted the top CP's, rotated the remaining ring, and lathed that. Standard stuff. Done it many times before. Today, as soon as I select the sphere and attempt to move it in any way [with either the Translate, Scale, Rotate, or the regular Select arrow cursor] a single point leaps out from the surface. The red arrow indicates how far. If I actually move the sphere's position, the point moves away in the opposite direction. I tried Saving and closing out of A:M, then re-opening the program. It still happens. I can move the model. I can move the lathed cone. I just can't touch the sphere. …

Hi All, Well, I found the technical reference document of my A:M CD and was just curious if there is a printable copy somewhere that I havem't found yet (PDF perhaps)? I'm the kind of person who likes to have a hardcopy to leaf through on the bus ride to work. I could print the web pages, but wanted to check and see if an alternate format was available first. I am doing the Flower Power exercise using AM 12.0v on a Mac OS X (10.4.6), and I have noticed that I am having difficulty making a complete group from a lathed object. I create a seven point spline, then I choose the control point nearest the X axis and hit Lathe. It makes a nice round stem. Then I try to group the control points manually (selecting a big box well around the entire stem), but I can't capture all the control points on the screen. Most points are green, but some remain red. I try Select All to capture all the control points before grouping, and it appears to work (all control points are green). I name the Group using the F2 key. Then…

Hello, I'm coming back to Animation Master after a lapse of ten years. The version I have is 5, from 1996. What I want to do is to take a word and make it 3d, and then wrap it into a truncated cone, as shown in the attachment, which I've built by hand in CorelDRAW. Then I would want to apply texture and a bump map, so the letters look like they were carved from granite. If someone could give me a very broad rough idea of the steps that would be necessary it would be a big incentive to get back into this by updating to AM2007. I've looked at interface screenshots, and I can't see how you even bring type into the program, so I'm a little commitment shy here! :-) …

I am in the Technical Reference manual studying the section "Hair Material with Multiple Attributes" page 39. I understand how hair works and how to set up a hair system, but for the character I am working on now I want to step it up a notch. The sample has a hair system with a CellTurb combiner with 2 different colors to give it a great 2 tone more realistic look. I added the Hair system w/ 2 emitters (one grey) and added the cellTurb with 2 attributes - similiar to what they did - orange and brown. The image I have below look nothing like the realistic fur ball in the book... what am I not getting here? Thanks - Eric

I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but using texture mapped planes isn't looking as good as a real 3D environment would (especially when the camera moves). So I'm starting to think about building a desert from scratch. Or from reference photos anyway. I'm thinking something like the Great Plains: There's a lot to terrain like this. Subtle rolling hills. Bluffs and Crags. Shrubs aplenty. Crackled ground. I don't even know where to start with this. I tried making a displacement map but it didn't come out at all. Like, a splotch in the middle disappeared, that was it. Seems like bluffs would be easy enough to model... Anyways, just starting…

Hi all, Trying to create a blanket over a character in bed and having all sorts of problems with the mesh passing through the blanket. I've been reading through the forums and found reference to Solver Precision which I cannot find. Anyone know where that is? Also, the forums suggest changing the polygon modifier/Simcloth but when I right click a model in the choreography no option show's up under polygon modifier (that is, no simcloth option). Any suggestions? I'm still using v12w (yes, I need to upgrade!)

Hi All Ive just completed excercise 10 FW 190 Fighter, and although I have completed ok, there were a few things that didn't match what I was doing to what was stated in the book and on the video tutorial? At a few stages it refers to going to the edit menu and selecting compliment group and compliment spline, but they are not listed under my edit menu. Hi, I've gone through the "Combining CG Characters With Live Action Tutorial" here (http://www.hash.com/users/ed/tutorials/fpm/fpm.htm). I have built my shadow-catching models to scale (using a ruler on the real scene) and placed them correctly in reference to the camera. I have all the correct image properties on the shadow-catching objects and have turned Front Projection ON, but when I render them, I can see them as DARK distortions to the scene. I want the shadow, but not the CG objects darkening the areas in which they appear. I have tried bringing the "falloff" down as close to zero as possible, but the CG shadow-catching objects don't disappear into…

I was doing the Tutorial:Flower Power, but I am stuck when it says: "Make groups and name them for the leaves, bud, stem and petals" How I can manage to acomplish that? I don´t know how to make groups I don't know either how to add an element to a group: i.e. I am trying to apply the same color to the Petals, but two petals don`t get the color, so how can I add these two 'loose' petals to the Petal group?
