-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi I’m new to the world of AM I’m still learning the basics and all and am using a book to assist me in my learning process, Animation Master 2002 by David F. Rogers Now a while back I read in some article or magazine about AM being used for photo manipulation. My memory is somewhat fuzzy on the article, but I believe it got used to enlarge their heads and alter them in shape somewhat. All I can recall was that a grid/mesh was placed over the picture, adjusted to in shape of the head and neck and next thing, the picture stuck to the mesh and it could be readjusted and dragged apart. After the heads/bodies were somewhat adjusted shadow/light effects where added w…

I have a window that I want the bone to be constrained so that it will rotate only on the x-axis. In the default models for A:M they have similar bones for knees. How is this accomplished? Here is a picture of what I am working on.

Hi Splinesmen! I think this must be a rather simple question. Im using AM 13r on Windows XP. I just want an object to follow a path#1 (I know of Ease and Enforcement) - so this works great. At the end of path #1 my object has to do some "strange" movement, where a path is not apropiate. So I append a normal choreo action. Now my object "lands" somewere - and now following a different, second path (lets say path#2) would be the easiest for me. But I've no success in doing the last step. A added the second path. I set a path constraint on object with path#2 as target. But now matter how I edit Ease & Enforcement: MY object does NOT move along…

But no matter what color stones I use, it just looks bad. Is there something I need to do to the displacement map prior to applying it? ***The displacement map is first and the color map is next**

After modeling and rigging a character, I decided to test it on the walk cycle from TaoA:M. Having spent so much time in the Project Workspace, I got use to double clicking on an item when I needed to start something new... I did this for a new Choreography Action as well, thinking I could do the walk cycle that way. However, near the end of the process I discovered that I did not have access to the "Has Stride Length" setting. Can this be turned on somehow inside a Choreography Action? I decided to render what I had, even though it isn't constrained to a path: SarahWalkTest2a.mov Also, I need to enable the Neck and Finger bones for the 2008 rig, but I'm no…

So I'm working through the flower tutorial. After drawing my line with 7 control points, and clicking the lathe, I wanted to adjust them. Every time I try to group a line of cp's it's always leaving one or two control points out. and therefor cause my stem to disform. Does anyone know what I can do about this so it'll change the way it groups?

I've been searching through the old posts (for answers to questions that I'll be posting as soon as I know the answer is not already here), and I keep running into links that have expired. Several of these 1+ year-old-posts have links to johnl3d's website at http://johnl.inform.net . Unfortunately, the site is gone. Have you moved to another home, johnl3d? Or are those valuable documents lost forever? - Wes

Hello, I've been experimenting with Ambient Occlusion and notice that it takes a lot of time at higher sample rates. I'd like to render AO at a lower rate (15%-20%) and then use the "denoise" post-effect to smooth out the dithered look. I've attempted to find the definitive way to do this in the forums, but have only gotten spotty information. Can anyone lead me to a tutorial that shows how to render and SAVE images that have been processed by the "denoise" (or other) post effects? Thanks a lot! Tim

I had a student ask me how to move the camera around in the choreography window and after showing him a truly awful way of doing it I realized I had no clue. =) Is there an equivalent to turning and moving like the modelling view that can be used to manipulate the camera views in choreography? I have made the models and the actions and now in the chroeography I am putting together my movie. But when I want to add a new model in the middle of my action, say at about the 5 sec spot, the item I add then flys in off the side and moves around during the first part of the movie where I don't want it. How do I add something later in the footage without it being in the first part. Thanks for any help. Lucine

Do the graphical glitches (glitchy update during bone manipulation) happen in XP? I picked up AM and read the forums before hand. Knew there were some small issues, but it's quite persistent and gets you out of the flow. Work around (for me) is to minimize the window and then bring it back. But it's happening often enough I don't think I can stand it. Comp: Q6600, 8GB RAM, Vista Home Premium x64, EVGA 8800GTS 320MB, AM 15b. Driver at 169.44, Vista up to date. I have a render node with an E6600, 2GB RAM and XP SP2. Is XP that much more stable and reliable running AM than Vista? Interested in hearing someone with Vista that has encountered this issue and li…

Hi everyone, Even though I've been around for quite some time, I'm still very, very new to modelling. What I would like to find out, is how would be the best way to make a golf ball in AM? I have looked and searched for the answer here in this forum, and come up with using bump maps on a normal sphere as a good way, and this sounds great. (Here comes the newbie part). I have found a bump map, but it is basically a big rectangle with the dots stretched at the edges (mainly at the top/bottom). I have tried just applying the image as a decal, and flattening the image (although Im not that great at flattening). Both results varied in effectiveness, but ba…

Hey Guys, Is there an easy way to blend the CP weights between two bones? Here's what I've got below. I just want even distribution between the bones. I have a lot of CPs because I'm going to make the thing rough like rock and I didn't want to do it using materials and combiners. I just don't want to have to go spline by spline to fade the weight between each bone. Thanks. Justin

So I am working on smartskin to adjust the area where my penguins flippers connect to her body. I am selecting the torso bone and doing New > smartskin. Problem is when it jumps to the 90 degree rotation. I understand this is normal, however, I can't see the bone to move it back and it seems to *really* distort the model. Should I keep my model in shaded wireframe mode while doing this, or would just wireframe make seeing the bone easier?

I'm having an issue with my AM V.12p modeling window. Seems like I may or may not have pressed a button that may or may not have changed something in regards to the way the screen responds. Before today, the modeling window was fun and easy to work in, the model turned with relative ease when I used the manipulators on it. Today, after some quick key strokes, something changed. The modeling window is now noticeably less responsive, the model sorta jerks into position when I turn it and the view sometimes doesn't update. Very strange. I changed from DirectX to OpenGl and back but no change. Which one is the better performer anyway, DirectX, right? After s…
