A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

When I watched the video tutorial for Exercise 5: It's a Pitch the narrator on the video ended up having trouble with bones moving that were not suppose to move. The narrator pointed out that whenever bones are not moved on a particular keyframe their position is not remembered at that keyframe. My question is... After manipulating some of the bones on a keyframe would it be a good idea to press the Force Keyframe button at the bottom of the screen if you wanted to make sure everything is anchored (or keyed)? Would forcing keyframes assign keys to all the bones regardless if they were moved or not?

Morning everyone. Ok, i'm going thru the tutorials (again and again!). I'm trying to have my character walk a path, then wave. However, I can't seem to have my character mimic what the tutorial does. My character walks, then "glides" for a bit, then waves. What am I missing? I thought I followed the tutorial, but maybe I keep missing something? Thanks. Steven

Hello, I'm still working out of the David Rodgers book. I set up a choreography, put in some model buildings, etc. Saved it, embedded the files. When I go to open it up.....nothing. The computer keeps asking me to find stuff. Do I have to put(or copy) all the models, decals, etc, into one project file when I make something? Thanks, Andy

Greetings all! While I have puttered around with A:M since 2000 I haven't really done anything other than some interesting stills but my real interest is animation. So here are my questions: 1. Is the A:M 'school' where you upload your progress through the tutorials and have them graded still in effect or am I too late? 2. The TWO project was begun in 2005 as a three year project so I assume it must be in its final stages. Considering the fact that I still must go through the A:M tutorials and that I hold down a full time job is it too late for me to hope to contribute to this project? Finally, a side note: I noted somewhere that there was still some t…

I shot a mail message to support but I thought I'd cover this base as well. I got a Mac mini from work so that I could work from home. Since my home PC is way old, I wanted to install A:M on the mini. The install of A:M 11 goes OK, but after entering in my info & serial the program just shuts down. System stats are as follows: 1.83 gig core duo 2 gig Ram Mac OSX I checked the FAQ but didn't find anything similar to my situation. Sorry if this isn't the place for this question. Also, I know a mini is hardly the workhorse that should be running A:M but it it's all I got. Any help is greatly appreciated. C.

So I am working on smartskin to adjust the area where my penguins flippers connect to her body. I am selecting the torso bone and doing New > smartskin. Problem is when it jumps to the 90 degree rotation. I understand this is normal, however, I can't see the bone to move it back and it seems to *really* distort the model. Should I keep my model in shaded wireframe mode while doing this, or would just wireframe make seeing the bone easier?

I'm having a strange problem with a model - I modelled it on my laptop using AM v11.1i and it looks like this - (see "strange") but the original model (created in AM11.0t) looks like this on my desktop (see "Thomas") I only need an answer - I must have phrased my question wrong in my original thread that got deleted - but do I need to delete the hair material shortcut and re-apply or should I start the hair all over again? Apologies to Hash if I say anything wrong, I've been off the forums a few years and may say the wrong thing the wrong way. Alf

I'm using Windows xp pro. service pack 2. Any idea's/thoughts? Thanks. MC Also are there any plugins that allow the import of an .eps?

I've had A:M in my hands for over a year now ever since our Man with the money met (I think) Martin Hash at a trade show and came back with the software and told me to check it out. I regret that I've failed to take advantage of this forum the way I should... ditto with contributions. I'm trying to make up for lost time. Anyway, to the point: when I started out rendering, I went directly to AVI/MOV files. I've since realized that's wrong. I'll skip the long stories about how I learned them, but here are things I've learned: Products like Sorensen Squeeze (or Divx products) do a heckuva better job as a post-process product than any part of a direct render outpu…

Hi - my next practice model is going to be a Tucan, and I have searched all over for pictures - and found some great ones, but can't seem to find any with their mouths open, to where I could see what the inside of their mouth looks like. Any Tucan experts out there. Does anyone happen to know if they have a short, small or long skinny tongue? Any good pic links would be appreciated. There was this link - it looks like a long skinny tongue, but not sure if it was something he was eating... Pic of Tucan w/ Mouth open Thank you - Eric

Hello everyone, I hope I can get some help here. I bought AM 2005 in 2005 for my Macintosh and had nothing but problems with bugs in the software and unfortunately had very poor results at the time. Fast forward to 2009. Aside from my Mac, I now have a quad core PC with 8 GB of RAM in it. Since AM 2005 had both the Mac & PC software on the DVD, I've been able to load it into the PC and I'm getting some very good results. But, I've got some questions, since I've been away for so long. Maybe you can help me out. #1 - I shoot alot of HDV 1440x1080i footage. When I try to pull this video into AM, the software shuts down completely, even though it …

As explained elsewhere, I'm using V15 on an Imac running Snow Leopard to revisit an old project for a competion. The original project was put together in V10 and, when complete, backed up onto CD's. They were originally done in 26fps because that is what I'm used to. And on a PC running Windows XP I have had a few problems with V15 ( using the one off the CD) occassionaly dropping out and it seems to revert to its factory defaults each time it does it. So, for example, I open it up to load the old project, having previously set the frame rate to 25fps. It imports the files but it imports them at 30fps, I reset the options under tools, save it and the pr…

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial that shows much of the functionality within the same tutorial? I have gone through many of the online tutorials and have a lot of AM videos and books (that I bought off the forum). The problem is, they only take you through certain sections of things. No one really guides you from start o finish and all the steps in between. I am still struggling to get AM into a workable situation for me. It doesn't have to be complicated...say maybe a football. If there was a tutorial from start to finish of a football with the texture, material, decals (I think that this the right terminology to put like an NFL logo on it), it would be so he…

Fine so far but now I need to tweak the walking so that the characters stance comes to stand straight up at the end of the path but can't alter any skeletal motion with a chor action on any frame where the stride length is active. I've been messing with the wizard but so far cant get anything remotely close to a tight spiral. I'm confusd as to what all the settings on the wizard means and how to control them to get a quality shape. If anyone has made something like this before feel free to share what settings you used. Thanks for looking. -PM

Hi all. I'm trying to sort out two probs really. Background: I've built a cartoon ship and have created its eyes via this fantastic tutorial: http://www.hash.com/amtutes/Bootcamp/EyeTut.html. within the same Model window. Issue: When I proceed to an Action window, my model has sprouted another inactive top eyelid. It disappears and reappears with the legitimate 'Topeyelid' when toggling the 'Hide' button. It seems to be a replica of the original eyelid shape pre the extrustion. Frustrated I've deleted the complete eye model, but it stays there until I also delete it from the GROUPS folder under the Project Workspace. It seems like a set…

Hey, all-- I'm wondering if there is a (glaringly obvious, which I missed?) function in A:M that allows you to subdivide a model's mesh to increase patch density--automatically generate splines halfway between existing splines, so that if you need more control points down the line you can add them, so that it doesn't have to be done by hand? Cheers-- Mark

My Problem is simple: I've been a sporadic Hash user for years and last year I threw out my original Hash '97 or '98 manual-- forgetting that it was the only place where my Hash serial # was written. Now wishing to upgrade (and to make hash work with Tiger... what's up with that?) I need to reclaim that serial number. How the heck do I do that? Hi - another walking question. I referenced exercise 5 "Take a walk" - and created the 4 poses at 00:00:00, 00:00:05, 00:00:10 & 00:00:15 then I copied the frame and mirror pasted. The walk cycle looks good. When I bring the character into a chor and apply the walk action and have it repeat lets say 10 times. Each time it repeats there is a 'jerk" motion when it starts over, so there isn't a smooth transition between the last frame 00:00:15 - going back to 00:00:00. Is there something I am doing wrong... some setting I didn't set or something? Thanks again - Eric
