-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi everyone, I need to do an easy animation in A:M (I'm using v12) using a 3ds model of a car that has been given to me. The model has been modelled with not too much polygons (in max I guess) and A:M can import it by using the wizard for importing 3ds models. My problem is that the result after importing the model is not the desired because some "ugly things" appear all over the mesh of the model as if the bias of every spline had been changed. Is there any other way of importing 3ds models without the appearing of those extrange artifacts? or, are there any tricks for avoiding this problems? I don't need to animate the model itself but using it as a static ob…

Hi there, Since it is now possible to import OBJs i am wondering, if it is possible, to use its UVs (if there are some of course). If yes, how do i acess them. Besides, i am wondering, if the OBJ importer which is implemented in AM now, is the one by Arthur Walasek? Best regards, Heiner

Hi. I've been reading that A:M imports .obj files but with some problems in the earlier releases. I have v13. The issue is that I need a real good kick-ass dinosaur for a project -- and I suck at modeling anything 'real'. I found this one on Turbo Squid: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/369646 ...But it costs a lot of money. I'll make the investment if I had some kind of comfort that the .obj file will import correctly and that I could add Walk Cycles, animate it, etc. (since I can't return it). Anyone have experience in importing .obj files in v13? Anything I should be warned about? Thanks! DirectorDave

I'm wondering if there is a way to import camera data from another program. We're using, primarily, Vue to create a landscape and I would like to be able to insert Animation:Master elements as well. We can export a camera that would work for After Effects, Maya, and perhaps others. I'm not exactly sure how much we can convert the data, so please give as many options as possible for import and we'll hopefully find a medium that will work. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I wachted the 2006 training video. It talks about Dennis Borusso's game Froggy Boxing. It was supposedly made in A:M and then converted into Game Studio. I was wondering if this was actually possible. If anyone has any info. about Game Studio that would be great. P.S. I have posted this same topic on the Game Master forum. Thanks for your time, Masna

Will importing a saved model file from your local disk screw up a project, such that you get the problems with prior versions losing their changes? I thought this only happened if you saved something from the project as a model file. So I am assuming it goes the other way as well? Or am I wrong here? Because I just imported an eyeball model from the extras, it turned my entire penguin orange (not sure why but it looks like it applied the beak color to the entire body) and then when I went back a version the penguin was also orange. The version before that is ok, and I didn't lose much in the way of work but this makes things difficult. I guess I will have to…

OK, AM crashed, and the file got corrupted. Luckaly, I had an export of my model. So I imported him. He was perfect when I imported him, but when I did a Render of him, all I got was a colored wire frame! (all of it was white, but the wireframe only was colored.) How do I restore my model to his former glory?

I'm extremely knew at all of this, but I was wondering how you import model files into A:M. I have some Twilight Princess models I downloaded that included the model and texture files and I would really appreciate it if someone could explain step-by-step how to import the model and get the textures on it. I've tried, and it says it can't import the model. I believe the file is compatible with A:M, they're .3Ds files and the textures are .tga files. Thanks in advance!

Ok heres my deal, i use a program to extract a model from a game , the program saves it into a format usable by a program called 3d studio max, when it loads into max the models akin to perfect , ie surfaces are nice , colors are accurate, and hey there are even textures , now when i save the model in a format usable by AM ".3ds" it loads in about 1 min and as said above looks like it went through a blender , the main form is still there but thats about all that there is , also i will try and upload a pic soon as due to a system change i currently cant access AM

I have a model I built in version 13, and I would very much like to import it into a Choreography in version 12 of A:M. Although the ideal solution would be to use version 13 of the software, but this may not be possible. Is there any way to import a newer model into an older version of the software? Thanks.

Old time A:M user here, Has Biased normals replaced porcelain as an option for smoother model surfaces in the current version of A:M? In the old days there was default/normal patch surfaces, which are great for most models, and there was also a Porcelain.mat that would average the surface for smoother surfaces that worked great for some other kinds of models. Maybe a cartoon baby, for example. They were both great and both had advantages and disadvantages. (Don't worry folks, I'm not trying to avoid good modeling technique). The technical manual says that Biased Normals is now the default. Does that mean there is biased and unbiased rendering available now? Or i…

I have a student in my class that is trying to create a simple action. Everything looks correct except that none of her movements are being recorded as key frames. In 10 years I haven't had this issue come up. Usually when my students animate an action, it's a pretty user friendly process...change the cell number, move the bone..ta da...but for her, something just isn't working. I'll attempt to attached the files here. logo.prj

Hello AM, So Im looking for somefeed back. I use to use other 3d programs in the past. Now 7 years later im finding myself interested in 3d again. I have been working with some polygon modeling software lately and I am very limited to modeling. So I'm asking for some advice. How hard is it to create custome characters in AM as to creating with other 3d software. I can create characters in 2d till the world ends, but now its time to turn them into 3d, will AM complete this task with basic knowlegde of modeling. Also will just modeling bog down my system, because im on a older laptop. Or will i be fine intill I start rendering animation. Thanks AM members

I'm making a character walk, and it's not even a very zany walk, but there are certainly times when he's moving forward, and moments when he's recovering from hitting the ground. Problem is, the walk-cycler seems to take all frames as equal parts of the forward stride. This results in some moments that my character slides forward, and others when he seems to moon-walk. Is there a way to vary the forward-movement within a single walk cycle?

I'm at a bit of a loss understanding why I'm getting the results I am with the index of refraction. I know all the theoretical aspects of it (that is, learned from college physics). What I don't understand is the rather profound deepening of color I see with applying even the smallest index of refraction (1.01). [attachmentid=16239] The two objects in the image have the same color and 95% transparency. The item to the right has 1.01 index of refraction a it gained a deeper-blue color. In another model I made, a small bit of transparency and a bit of refraction produced a profoundly deep-colored plastic that I liked. However, this time around I want to keep …

Hi I'm Keizerzilla and my mom got me Hash Animator for Christmas. We have tried to install it with the discs we were sent, but the program will not work. When we inserted the disc, the setup file did not come up. We tried double clicking on the file on the disc and it appeared to have downloaded it, but no icon of any kind to launch the program is on my computer. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what we failed to do or could it be that we didn't receive adequate disc info?

Mod note: I've split this off from a TAoA:M exercise thread as this might be useful to other people who need to find and install 32-bit A:M to use its Quicktime ability. 64-bit A:M doesn't have Quicktime, but 32-bit A:M does. Actually the best way to post work is to render it to a Quicktime file. If you are using 64-bit A:M you may also want to install the 32-bit version so you can load your PRJ and render (Quicktime isn't available yet in 64-bit A:M) You can have both A:Ms installed. copy the master0.lic file from the 64-bit A:M folder to the 32-bit A:M folder.

After buying a new computer I installed AM2005. Made some animations and wanted to save. Suddenlly programm ends. Tried again, but for some reason the programm terminates. Iyt isn't a big animation, trying to make a wheel for a carmodel. The computer runs under WinXp Media Centrum. Second is my concern I can't copy my AM2005 disk, so is there a way to make the programm start without the CD input? When installing the whole CD on my computer there's still the question NO CD found. I would be glad to understand these questions.
