A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

When I am setting up the relationship for this head and turn it to see if constraints on the neck are working it won't return to zero (looking straight ahead) when I type in zero in the y rotation. I've set up other heads the same way and they work but this one won't. Must be missing something. What am I doing wrong??? Brow2.tga EyeBallPupil2.tga HedNek.prj Wilbur2.mdl

hello. im studying the Facial Modeling tute from Anzovin, and i was wondering if im looking to create more cartoon-styled face models, am i still to use as much detailed splinage like is taught in the tute? i was hope to just take simple head shape and basically add eyes, nose and mouth, something similar to a Bruce Timm type style, even how Jeff Lew did "Killer Bean". is there a way that supposed to be approached when modelling a toon thats more cartoon than realistic? and if there's info pertaining to this, could someone direct me to a link? thanks.

Hi all, My students and I are working on a live action film with 3d aliens and spacecraft in it. Who knew school could be this much fun, eh? Anyways, we want to have the spacecraft land with that weird heat wave present. I thought I saw a forum topic on this year's ago but couldn't find it. Any ideas? Thanks! Mike

I am having a problem with rotoscope files. Every time I make my own model or modify a model and put my own materals and/or decals, not a problem, but when i load my project file the second time, I get thousands and thousands of rotoscope files in my choreography list and it takes an extremely long time to load my project file, as well as slowing down my computer. Is there a setting that will limit the number of rotoscope files produced when I do this? Eric800

I was here a bit about a year and a half ago, and I'm getting back into animation again (finally cancelled my World of Warcrack account). I just wanted to say hi. Quick question about the excercises for the Art of certificate. Is it OK to go beyond what is specified in the excercise? For example, here [attachmentid=17244] is my Ex1, where I was playing with the camera angle going over rabbit's shoulder to look at Kee Kat in the dynamic pose. Will I get my golden checkmark for this, or should I play it a little closer to the guidebook? -Andy

Hi everybody, Well, I'm back once again! I'm picking up where I left off after finishing exercise three, and I really want to get through the entire AoA:M this time. Actually, I'm working in a much less stressful job now, so it should allow me more time to work on my animation skills. I just want to say, the A:M community is one of the nicest bunch of people I've had the pleasure of talking to online, so I'm glad to be back. -Sean P.S. - TWO is looking awesome!!

Hi everyone! I've been an A:M user on and off over many years and was even briefly involved in the Scarecrow of Oz project. I recently watched the TWO DVD and really enjoyed it. It inspired me to pick up A:M again. I might even get through all the exercises in the AoA:M manual this time. Nice to see you all again! -Sean

10 years ago I stopped in the middle of Scarecrow of Oz after my mother fell ill, and one problem leading to the next, never got back to it. Now I'm working on a music video for a song a friend wrote, and thought I'd see if I can do some modeling and animation for it. So here I am. I found my old A:M disk and inserted it in my not as old Windows 7 PC, and it says: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. I thought this PC would run both 32-bit and 64-…

Hello everyone! My name is Steve and today I purchased my copy of A:M 18. I know nothing about 3D and animation, and can't wait to learn. My first impressions of A:M are not going so well though. After starting the program, I get a nice welcome screen, with a list of tutorials. After getting through the first two, which I enjoyed, I get "videos not ready yet". This is a bummer and not very professional. Are there alternative tutorials? I don't want to jump around from specific tutorial to tutorial, I just want to learn in a structured way, or at least learn the basics of modeling in A:M. Thanks, Steve.

I myself do movies like them on halo 2 and halo 3, I've taken notice to your product "Animation Master" and was surprized at this spectacular program that is in my price range. Hi everyone! To give you an idea of how far I go back: My first version was called "Playmation" and I had to travel quite a bit, to a person's home, to see a demo AND buy my copy. Really, the program was called Will Vinton's Playmation -- bet Martin wasn't too happy about that. I still have that copy, though the box needed taping up. Still have the disks. Over the years, I have bought at least 3 or 4 subsequent versions -- I'm looking at two versions on my bookshelf right now (at least another is in the debris under my computer desk). My question is -- are there any records here at Hash Kingdom of my copies? It would save me considerable archaeological…

Hello there everyone. i just thought i'd introduce myself. i took a 3d animation class in college a year ago or so (v15) and now i'm starting to put it to work for a video game i'm working on and possible webisodes. i'm off to a good start in my post-class era and have learned much since then just fiddling with the easy to use software and as of recently i am beginning to discover the stretches of these forums. i'd just like to say that i've been able to find a lot of help in these forums already even dating back in articles from 2005, with such topics as clothing (i managed to get a cape flowing and leaves draping down from a shoulder pad), figure modeling, lighting…

Hello! I am currently in the process of starting a team for web-based cartoons and (in the near future) games. I'd like full length 20-30 minute cartoons, and completely full length games. After looking around, this was the most expensive thing I could buy for that purpose. Now, two months later, I need an audio program to go with it. What would you guys suggest? I need it to have a full range of sound effects (explosions, mystical magic sounding stuff, mechanicle gears moving, etc), along with the ability to create music (preferably click and drag), and finaly voice acting. I'm very completly serious about this, and if I have my way you guys'll be hearing about…

Need a little help guys... I've got a character for a local commercial - 7 second intro, that he's supposed to "fist bump" the owner at the end of his intro. I've set up the lip-synch anim for the VO, and now I want to do the body action and fist bump. I would typically work in the action window for his movements, but since he's got to interact with a live action character, I figured I'd have to work int he Choreography window w/ a Camera Rotoscope playing the live action video. I've set up a cho, imported the video clip as a Camera Rotoscope, I set the start point at 0:00 and the end point at 7:17 on the rotoscope. But when I advance frames, the video roto ju…

Running Yeti, downloaded and installed 12 (v+). I can't remember if I ran the installation from the CD. At any rate, I hit the help button and got a message that the help file couldn't be found. I dragged it over from the CD and now all is well, but it occurs to me that the help file I am using is probably a bit out of date. Does the FTP site normally keep updates to the help file? -Andy

Well, I guess I'm a newbie (again). I started using A:M with V1 back in 1994 and used it very regularly though '98 then less frequently through 2000 and only occassionally until 2002. That was the last I had upgraded and the last version I currently have (until my '07 upgrade arrives ). Anyway, I've been away from it for so long, I totally forget the ins and outs and nuances of this delicate software package. As I make my way through rudimentary modeling and lighting, it's starting to come back to me but it seems I've run into a problem. First, I'm working on a 2.3Ghz Duo Core MacBookPro running Paralells (as the '02 version isn't available to run natively in …

Hi, I am buying AM within the next two weeks. I have searched the forums and had some questions answered and other not it may e because I am not searching them right. I have very little animation exp. I currently do animations projects for creative fun and I draw them, then make models in milkshape. Sometimes I record 3d worlds and then export the avi into filmstrip and then render new or adjusted 3d animations within the video. I am hoping AM can not only help me learn but cut down on the drawing because it takes months to re-draw just a few seconds of video footage. Well it may take some less but i'm green. If anyone can point me to the tutorials or like questi…

In the Hash online Store, I plan on upgrading to yearly subscription. It will be a yearly part of my Christmas from my wife. I also will spend an additional 50.00 dollars in the store? Should I buy the 2005 dvd or 2006 dvd. My wife originally bought AM off of e-bay. It did not come with the hard copy of The Art of Animation Master, so Should I buy it and the The techinal reference guide which totals 50.00 as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

With the 11.i1 version (2005), everything seems to work fine except the Help menu -- it gives the error: "Failed to launch Help" I'm hoping it is some simple file missing from some place during the install. Does anyone familiar with old versions have an idea what could be amiss? My work around is to install and run both versions, just to access the help menu, which is awkward and space-busting. Is there some way to view the help without the program? That could be another workaround. Regards…

Hi there, I've bought AM a few days back, so I'm a newbie here... I can model basic stuff so far, extruding splines, connecting and so on. No problem. The video-tutorials are very helpfull so far. I work also with polygon modelers like Silo, Wings and Strata, so there is a big differents in working with splines. What I really need (and don't find) is a basic tutorial how to: - add points on a spline (If I have points, i can connect them, but I need new ones) - how to connect curved edges to a flat surface (like a tube on a cube) - how to make sharp edges - how to smooth out hard connection/extrusions - how to add tickness - and so on..…

Can anyone help me to get the turbulence working on volumetric effects in v14.0c? If I drop a default dust volumetric into the choreography I just get a misty white sphere with no turbulence. If I do the same in version v13t then I get turbulence within the volumetric sphere.
