I'm building a railroad indicator lamp, essentially a red/green traffic light. I wanted to simulate the look of the optics of these lights which were designed by mounting an incandescent lamp at the focal length of a coloured glass fresnel lens (like in a lighthouse) such that its light is only visible when viewed almost on-axis as one would from a long distance. I think I've come up with a believable result using a hierarchical klieg light mounted inside the enclosure. It's aimed to shine inside the case and illuminate a small internal disc, standing-in for the lamp filament, sitting near the focal length of the lens. Have started to try and set up some hot keys to speed up the animation process. Does any body have a method they use to short cut, setting keys on bones in a chor or action ? I started going through them on the keyboard but, they all seem to be already set. Any Suggestions welcome. regards simon

Hello- Was studying this older project that someone posted and enjoyed the leaf and force interaction. I tried deconstructing the Project but was unable to determine how the many leaves were placed in the Choreography. I'm assuming it wasn't done manually but can't figure out how it was done. I am trying to do a little simulation of a fishing lure. I rigged up the lure with hook and have the root bone on a cube that is my starting spot. Not sure how I go about getting the force to work. I set Newton on and have the default attributes on just as a starting point. I know I flubbed this up, any suggestions would be awesome. Eventually I will be tweaking the model design out then making a prototype of it and then sand cast the final in Zamak. Base design I have works but I need to fiddle with the volume of material to fit specific weights ie 1/4 oz, 3/8 oz etc. luretest.zip

Hello. I just returned to the A:M Forum because something weird happend to my 3D viewport. A red font apeared on my screen (I don't even know what I pressed, but it suppose was a big mistake and I know it has to do with keyfreaming). I think this is a very stupid question but how do I get that off? I would be glad if you could explain to me. If I'm not very clear, here's the thing Im talking about.

I have three models overlapping and I want to select only the CPs of one of them so I can scale it. So basically, how do I select all the CPs in a particular object? I know noob question, and I've searched the forum but it only gives me threads with hitting Cntrol+A to select all the CPs in the scene. Thanks

Steve and I have been using poses in models to compose larger models -- even whole sets -- from smaller models. This is very useful to avoid creating multiple copies of mesh, as well as allowing an easy way of turning on and off various parts of the model. Here are the requirements that we had when the pose idea came up: Avoid having multiple copies of the same mesh. If there are 18 chairs in the set, there should not be 18 copies of the mesh in some model. Ideally, they need to be configurable for different situations. For example, we don't want a separate set for the coffee shop before it opens (less clutter) and after (more supplies, etc. laying around and on …

Recently started a new Sports Day project which is using a .tga image as a decal for the pitch markings, which according to my OS, is 2,554 x 410 pixels @72dpi and a file size of 95kb. If I look at the information for the same image as it appears in the Images folder in A:M it agrees on the dimensions but says it is 3.99MB!? That's but a big leap from 95kb! And it also seems to be enough to keep making A:M freeze and have to be forced quit if I try and pan over it with the camera. Turning OFF Show Decals and the camera moves freely and no freeze. On the plus side this decal, so far & touch wood, has always displayed correctly and not fallen foul of the usual …

Another question which is unrelated to our discussion yesterday......but it has me stumped so I thought I would put it out there. I'm trying to create a pose slider to turn on a street lamp. Sounds fairly simple...I want the slider to make the outer" lens" of the lamp become about 35% transparent and I want the inner bulb to start glowing...all just by sliding the pose slider. The problem is the Glow feature seems to only have parameters that become visible WHEN you are rendering in the choreography.....so how do you set up a pose slider when the parameters you want to tweak only appear when rendering? many thanks for any insights... Hello Hashers- I had an idea of leaves being emitted as sprites and I wanted those leaves to swirl in a curlicue past the camera. I created a curlicue model as a guide for the sprites to follow and made it 80% transparent so I could see if it was working, and if it did work, I would make the guide 100% transparent for the final render. I made the sprites react to collisions and thought I set everything properly. I even had an animated force fanning the sprites inside the tunnel. Hey, there's nobody in the hash office until tomorrow. I have the worst luck. How do I install the app on my PC running windows 10 using the serial number. As is, the app installs without it and then doesn't work. The box that pops up says... The code execution cannot proceed because of mfc140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. please help

Hello Hashers- This should be a simple task (but apparently not for me)😄 I am trying to simply fade out a sprite cloud over 20 frames using the Sprite opacity setting in the choreography window. Attached is the simplest of projects. The sprites are dormant for 10 frames and then on frame 11 (only) 1000 sprites are shot out the emitter. Those 1000 sprites have their opacity set at 100% and then by frame 50 the sprite opacity is set to 0%. Unfortunately there is no opacity changes going on (as you can see from the video). I have been trying to figure out how to replicate a character flicking paint off a paint brush onto a canvas. Think, Jackson Pollock onto a vertical canvas. I can sort of figure out the flicking of blobs but I don't know if it is possible to make those blobs stick onto something... Anyway, I hope to be there tomorrow. Tom

Hey, I've downloaded and installed my trial version and getting back into AM is as easy as falling off a bike! However, on the Mac side how do you import images? I remember there was some workaround, which I haven't been able to figure out. But the usual "Import" window opens all grayed out.

This test model has several groups, each with a different color, and one "all" group, containing a gradient material, that overrides the color groups to make a gradient from black to white. GradTest01.prj Is there a way to key off the influence of the "all" group on a certain frame to let the native colors of the other groups show through?

I have uploaded a very simple project which might present an area of discussion on Saturday Live. I am familiar with setting poses for "percentages" but I am less knowledgeable about Poses that are "On/Off". Hi there, after having another look on the description of the Flatten command, I thought to myself, that this could solve much of my UV problems. Then I tried again, and like the 150 times before, it did not give me the results I expected. With lots of shifting, tilting, rotating I was finaly able to get a decent result with a open cylinder, but it was so far away from beeing a workflow one wants to utilise :-( Has soeone a decent tutorial on this, maybe even a video tutorial? Hey- anyone noticed the 'depth images' that are all the rage on Facebook right now? Here is a instructional sheet (not mine) I found regarding how to do it, and of course my first thought is... we can do this in A:M really easily with the depth map render! I am out the door for the weekend or I would whip one up... anyone else that wants to be the 1st- HAVE AT!!! The Facebook depth effect is an image that as you scroll over it... on your phone or desktop, appears to have a multi-plane that is driven by your scroll. The image is built by Facebook as you load-up 2 images... your RGB color image and a depth greyscale image.

Hello, at this time https://www.hash.com/reports uploading is broken. I'm working on a fix. Right now upload loads into the database and I think after all of these years that is starting to push the limits. I'm going to try to change it to 'disk' upload but I need to test if the breaks the old database uploads. I will be posting here when I get it fixed or I break it more.. Hi, I screwed up thinking that the word I wanted was 'Quadology' and my proof reader said she could not verify that this word existed and suggested I use Quadrilogy instead, which I did everywhere. Hi, What I'm after is a still shot of matter spiraling into a black hole. 3D streaks of...lets say dust or clouds. Lets just consider a cube (instead of the entire spiral)...if only there was a material that would fill it with 3D clouds but, to my knowledge, materials don't work that way, they apply themselves to flat patches and can have bump or perhaps even displacement for depth. Hi guys! I was a long time A:M user. For my new project I (had to) switched to Blender. Blender is great in some aspects and really bad in others. I really miss the logic and workflow of A:M. I have coworkers and I simply cannot explain them how to make some things (like object instances) which was extremely easy in A:M but practically impossible in Blender. Hi, I'm not sure this is a bug or a restriction or due to a model creared in an eariler version or model corruption or perhaps the way I'm doing it. Anyone seen, know anything about or have a work around for chor constraints that won't work after you save/close/reopen. This is just a placemarker and a reminder for me to investigate the TaoA:M exercise(s) that deal with Lipsync. At the core of my exploration is a desire to determine what effect having the complete dialogue as one audio file might have on the experience. The dialogue is: "I've got a secret. Can you keep a secret? Didn't think so." The problem: The dialogue length is set. There is no way (in A:M) to adjust the timing/pacing or to adjust the delivery of the performance for the character in the sequence due to the audio file's fixed length. For no apparently good reason... I've always thought the audio file from TaoA:M needed a longer pause before the 'punchline' delivery. Today I added it (and some noise) to keep the pause from sounding out of place. (wav file attached below) The whole idea of the timing of dialogue delivery is a fascinating one. This bit of dialogue follows the basic pattern of such things as joke telling that is storytelling in simple form; three acts... for four if you are counting the spaces inbetween the keys. Not sure if this is the right toppic but it is a rat her strange archivement. SInce I use AMV17 on my new computer, and changing to 64 bit, I receive a strange delay in the icon. As soon as I click one I see a fast change between "explain icon (txt)", "show icon (symbol)", and finally "use icon (execute)". It is a minimal marge, but it surely slows down the workaround of the program. On winxp or win7 I had no trouble with it, but now on win10 it feels like beating that icon thing to work. What could be happening here?

I notice that when working on SmartSkins, in the PWS you can on a CP or Spline number and get the option to "Select Spline #" or "Select CP #". However nothing appears happen when choosing either. What should happen? However it would be immensely useful it those options did in fact highlight their counterparts in the actual SmartSkin window. This would make altering/tweaking just a few Cps in a SmartSkin much easier to do later on if one was not happy the first time round. Is this in fact what is supposed to happen? If so then I think it's broke

I was trying to remember this awhile back, but I just had it happen to me and wanted to put it out here for other people. If you find your choreography suddenly takes forever to render (if in fact, it will ever render) and it starts adding up to tens of hours or days or something, one thing that can cause this is having an environment map missing from the choreography's Image Based Lighting. I used to use them all of the time and would run into this. Anyway, just wanted to put it down before my feeble brain forgets it again. :-)
