Hi, Was anything ever done with saving/using different workspaces? That is to say... the positions of the various pallets (Properties, Pose Sliders, Timeline and so on). And, if so, what version? Thanks, Rusty

When I load a project that then looks for files, such as jpgs etc that aren't in the location the project expects, AM opens up a file window to locate it BUT the file window will not allow me to drill to a lower level - only to a higher level. AND, having navigated to a higher level will not let me navigate to the original lower level. iMac - OSX 10.9.1. Most likely a Mac issue - can someone confirm before I lodge a AM Report. Cheers

Proving my modeling skills have room for improvement I am making a unicycle and wondered if anyone had suggestions as to how to set it up for animation afterwards ?. Still over producing splines at the moment but hope to try it out tomorrow. I was thinking of constraining the characters feet to the pedals and their bottom to the saddle then perhaps using Eular for the wheel ? Any help gratefully received. Thank you. simon

Have started to try and set up some hot keys to speed up the animation process. Does any body have a method they use to short cut, setting keys on bones in a chor or action ? I started going through them on the keyboard but, they all seem to be already set. Any Suggestions welcome. regards simon

A few months back I asked a question about accidental changes of bones heirachy in the chor. The problem is that, it is sometimes possible to change the heirachy by accidentally dragging the bone in the PWS. If you spot it before going too far you can revert but, if not, you get the problem illustrated here. The heel has become part of the knee heirachy. My recollection is that, the only way to overcome that, was to delete the bone, then go back in and reset the keys at the appropriate points ? Have been working away on the dance sequence and saving iterations as I go . Only have 10-15 seconds to go ( out of 90 ) so a bit reluctant to go back and…

I've been testing cloth settings. These flags have the same settings except for "Stretch Stiffness" From left to right they are set to 0.1, 1, 10, 100 FlagTest.mov

Is there a way of measuring objects in AM besides the rulers? Transform and info and manipulator properties only show percentages. Can't remember if there was a plug-in for that or not.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Up close the transparency map I'm using is working correctly. But from a distance, not so much. I've used transparencies before without this issue, but no matter what I try it's displaying the hair strands as if I made a space at the end and then continued.

I am trying to do a little simulation of a fishing lure. I rigged up the lure with hook and have the root bone on a cube that is my starting spot. Not sure how I go about getting the force to work. I set Newton on and have the default attributes on just as a starting point. I know I flubbed this up, any suggestions would be awesome. Eventually I will be tweaking the model design out then making a prototype of it and then sand cast the final in Zamak. Base design I have works but I need to fiddle with the volume of material to fit specific weights ie 1/4 oz, 3/8 oz etc. luretest.zip

For a 2D animation spline, A:M stores the bias as gamma and magnitude. What are those values and how do I convert them to a 2D vector? Apparently the gamma is the value of a trigonometric function, but which one?

Is it possible to use BitMapPlus textures on objects that animate like characters do rather than just objects that retain a rigid form? Is it possible to make the texture stick to the surface as materials and decals do as the object changes shape?

Been a while since I used AM but don't remember the undo not working if i rotate, scale or do any transform on an object in the chor. Anyone else having this issue? I have a simple installation guide on a product install that I want to use the toon render in AM rather than fight FormZ's retarded renderer that will not turn off the F@#$!!!! GD!!! iso lines.... prj has a couple obj's rigged with nulls, other main part was modeled ages ago in AM. sgx.zip

I had created an action and placed a rotoscope to use as some movement reference. Saved my project, and when I came back and opened it a day later I found that the Rotoscope was not retained in my action file. This meant that my scale and translate settings (that I had not written down) were gone. This may have always been the case since I can't remember ever opening a rotoscope in an action window, but I was hoping that someone knew if this is an error or just the way it is. I did find that I could use Rodney's suggestion here to solve the issue, but it seems like a silly thing to not be able to hold the rotoscope settings. Thanks,

I'm trying a test on the mix files while waiting on something else. Working in V18 under OSX 10.11.6 Have set up the models to use 50% of underlying colour, they render as a quick render in a model window but, when I try to render them out in a chor, just the alpha channel is there, no lines. Is there a setting I might be missing? Thank you simon

Hey there, been using AM since the early 90s and recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my main PC and the security features on my old CDs no longer work. I will be keeping this PC for at least another few years and wanted the never expires option tied to a single PC. But I don't see it on the store and when I finally do upgrade to a new PC what is the process to transfer the license to the new PC? Thanks!

I have been working with A:M to create motion profiles for animatronics. Successfully I programed the animatronics for some pieces in Las Vegas last year, writing our own app to help translate to our controllers. You can see some of our process here. I am still working on refining this process and I was hoping someone could point me to some documentation of what all the switches are in an .ACT file or a .MDL file so I can better create some of the tools I need. Hey all. I have a design that needs to be printed onto paper. It is a pop up book. But I have never actually printed a template out from A:M. I have an idea as to how to approach it. But I didn't want to waste any time on a method that doesn't get the desired results. Main thing is that I need to print the same physical dimensions as exists on the model template. So if something on the model is say.....3.5 inches on the model, it needs to be 3.5 inches on the physical paper print out. Has anyone tackled a template printout from A:M??

From the new v17beta 02 .. This should be huge for cloth users. Steffen has added an option that somehow makes work a strategy that I've tried before with only slight success... drastically upping the number of time subdivisions that SimCloth uses. HiRes ON temporarily increases the frame rate x 10 while the simulation is running. If you have Sub Steps set to 3, Sim cloth will now calculate the cloth's motion through 30 steps per frame instead of 3. The Cloth moves less per step, giving A:M more chance deflect CPs before they become unsolvable intersections. In theory just setting Sub Steps to a 10x higher number should have t…

Is there a reason why particle sprites don't show up in Render Lock Mode (shiftQ) but their shadows do? And how much memory can A:M use in the Mac version? I have 8GB but A:M never seems to use more than 1 or maybe 2 at most. After what seems like only an hour or two trying to work with the Rear Window set things really start to bog down. Edit: OK ignore that last bit about the set. I'v deactivated and/or hidden as many of the set models as possible and things are running much better now. I just have to remember to turn them all back on again when it comes time to finally render!

I don,t kno where ells to put this so sorry if its wrong , Im trying to import a obj model as a prop but getting a crash everytime as soon as I click ok on the information window that comes up .I have triede small files aswell as larger ones ,it works fine in v16 but not 17 c or 17e .I want to use it to make a new model with the new tool in v17 .Any help or advice would be very welcome cheers Steve

Having a strange problem I've not encountered before. running V15 on OSX 10.68 Built a simple set for the current short, all straight lines. They were all scaled in the respective axis to make sure they were straight and level, then peaked. Model was saved. When I open the model in the next session the splines have reverted to non peaked. Redid that and re saved. This happened several times yesterday. Today the problem recurred, so it was reset again. This is what it looks like in the model window. Following last weeks adventures with water, I'm trying to do a little short using the 2008 rig. There are so many controls in the rig that I'm finding it a bit confusing so, two general questions really. Is there a guide available to what the controls do and how to use them ? and Would it make sense to incorporate those controls into a pose slider . So that, for example, the right index finger curl was done with a pose slider rather than using the two null's ? Hello- I was revisiting the Lite Face Rigging and I wondered if anyone has ever posted a tutorial video showing the best approach? I was testing ao using a prop next to an AM model to see if the prop gets included in the ao render or if it is ignored and just rendered normally. When I deleted all the lights and kicked up the ambient light to 80 being the only light in the scene AM crashes. Not sure if it's a bug or just me. Would be nice to be able to render imported objects with a little ao. ao_prop_test.zip

I think it's time for me to get into the new version mode (still using v.11 or something). I wish you guys still supported the Hasp dongles, they were great. I have some questions before paying which aren't obvious on the store site. If I get the subscription version ($79), will it expire one year from the date of purchase/activation? At that point will it cease to work on my computer until I pay for a new subscription? If my computer crashes is it a simple process to regain access to my purchased version via re-install/online re-register (same day, even on weekends)? Hi, Okay...when did you people move from saving mainly the project file to mainly saving the chor file? Why did you do this? What advantages does this have? Is there really 'any' difference besides the .prj and .cho file extensions? What else is there to this? What else, if anything, are you using chor files for? FYI: I have only used saving chor files for large models that exceed what I call the workable patch limit--once you pass a certain patch count (at least in V14) response time becomes unworkable. I downloaded the technical reference help for the mac today and placed in in the the program folder as instructed. Please excuse the question but, how do I now access it from within the program. When I used to work on PC's there was a keyboard shortcut ( F12 ? ) that brought up the help option.Its been a few years since then. So I tried to make some new business cards. I liked someone the stuff in the post so they are a lot like it. v18_buss_card.psd v18_buss_card_bk.psd they are still editable and I will take any suggestions tomorrow when i have a bit of time i will work on the flyer. This is something I've been playing with I thought people might find interesting... Here's a render of two models. It's the same mesh copied from one file and placed in another. The surprise part is that they both have the exact same surface properties! The difference is that the first model is significantly smaller than the second one. It's scale has been changed in the choreography to match the second model. But notice that the roughness settings have been scaled to match. I've found I can get some interesting looks this way. Having learnt a lesson with the Teddy Bear now trying to CP weight his partner. It is a very long, tedious, involved process. Would it be possible to make a feature request ?I have read a few tutorials on how to do it but may have missed something ( ?) The process appears to be that you select the cp's in muscle mode and then add %values to vary the weighting ? Two factors make it a bit tedious for me, 1. When you select a bone in the dialogue window the same bone does not always show up the selection box below ( see screen shot ), so you then have to scroll through a long list to make sure the correct one is listed. That gets a bit tired after awhile.…

Setting up the opening and closing scene for the Dance sequence, its taking part in the young mans bedroom at home. Have made the model of the house and now trying to set up the lights in the chor. The first problem is that the lights are penetrating the mesh and showing up where they shouldn't. Is there a way to avoid this ? This is the scene, looking down the stairs to the hallway. The light source, a Klieg light , is outside, to the right of the model, in the street ( its supposed to be a passing car ). I'm having to prepare something for a course starting in October and have encountered a curious problem in V17G. I set it up last night and left it rendering away. Saved it, "Saved animation as" and reloaded the project. Only to find that the chor had lost the names of the model shortcuts. I redid those and rendered again and, while that was going through thought to use Multiple master to animate the next part of the idea.
