I am not understanding how to use the snap to surface feature? This is my first time trying it. Can someone walk me thru the steps to get started, please. I have made a SIMPLE obj in A:M (model exported as obj) I imported that obj 1) as a prop, and 2) imported that obj into a blank model. I have tried to use the snap to surface feature both in model window, as well as in chor (with prop) If I try to do it in the chor, and use the Add cp's - I get a path object If I try to create CP's in model that has prop imported in it (used plugin - import, obj) - I can't seem to control how the cps snap to surface. No comprendo. Que pasa?

I am wondering if I could generate a height map from objects in a scene. What I want to ultimately do is create one grayscale image that can be used as a displacement or height map. I have a small laser engraver that seems capable of carving from grayscale images into various materials such as wood, plastic etc. I'm also thinking of doing carvings to make molds from for pewter castings. Thoughts?

Hi, I'm trying to persuade some people into getting A:M. I remember a video that demonstrated A:M; it gave an overview of the software, it showed how intuitive it was, showed how you can just drag/drop an image onto a model, showed examples of people's work. Does anyone know where this can be found? Thanks, Rusty

This is just a placemarker and a reminder for me to investigate the TaoA:M exercise(s) that deal with Lipsync. At the core of my exploration is a desire to determine what effect having the complete dialogue as one audio file might have on the experience. The dialogue is: "I've got a secret. Can you keep a secret? Didn't think so." The problem: The dialogue length is set. There is no way (in A:M) to adjust the timing/pacing or to adjust the delivery of the performance for the character in the sequence due to the audio file's fixed length. Questions: Could separating the one audio file into three separate audio files resolve the issue? Is the…

In the help for A:M 10.5 there is reference to surface properties Average Normals and Normal Weight. I can't seem to find them the the properties for an object I have in a Model window. The reference says: I read some other posts that say you need to toggle "Render As Lines" on the group under "Groups" for your model, and then the properties will show up. Hasn't worked for me. Also, some suggest you need to first apply the Porcelain material to your model. I did that (dragged onto model), but still don't see the "Average Normals" property, and do not see these properties anywhere. Is there an "Advanced" mode I need to engage to see these propert…

Seems that the AM colour picker does not allow for entry of the full range available apps (Paint.net, Photoshop, Gimp etc) or it uses its own scale. The colour I want is R 209, G 154, B 98 but do you think AM will let me enter 209 - No. So what do I do to try to match colours? Actually it looks like a defect with the colour picker value entry fields - they restrict users to 2 digits only....

What do I do to make A:M read and write a custom model or animation format? For example, suppose I want to use A:M to make animations for a game engine. In Blender, I write a Python script. How do I go about this in A:M? I skimmed through the tech reference document but wasn't able to find anything about file I/O plugin support.

Ok starting Monday June 30th 2014 12:01am Hash servers will be coming down for a planned outage of about 12-18 hours something will stay down longer. Like stills(it's going to take a bit longer then thought to get 100% working but only groups are broke now) The return order is Activation > Store > Forums(because it's a lot of work) stills then i go to sleep.

Hello Everyone, We are looking to add some shows to our list this year and next. Someone posted on facebook about Awesome-Con and I thought this would be a good place to ask also. If anyone knows any shows that you would think Animaiton Master would be a good fit. Please let us know in either a email, this post or facecook. We will look them over and may join them. Thank You, Jason Simonds Hash, Inc.

I'm trying to resolve the lighting on my dancing figures. Initially I constrained the lights to the nody null so they would follow the figure around, That made the lights look too kinetic. Then constrained them to aim at a null and asnimated that to follow the figures ( hand keyed on the null ) but that appears to lead to unwanted overlaps or underlaps Can anyone suggest a suitable method ? What I am after is a stage show type effect with each character being lit be a follow spot. At present there are seven sets of two lights , one for each figure, and I am keying them on and off at suitable points. Any help gratefully received simon

This one is eluding me... What I'm trying to do is place a rectangular decal (or patch image... although this would be problematic) onto a a plane that (from the top view) has the curvature of a spiral. In thinking about this further I can see how I might warp (or unwarp) the mesh to get everything straight from top view and then drop the 'bottom' down to where it needs to be but I'm wondering if there is an easier or more elegant way. A cylindrical stamp won't work because that would repeat the image (which isn't what I want). Hmm.... while typing another approach suggests itself but I don't think it'll work. That would be to decal only one small part of…

I've been using v18.0p for a month or so now and I've noticed that pasting even small chunks of patches takes what seems to be an unusually long time. For instance, a copy of the side window on this fare box: It's only four patches but when you hit Cntl-V it takes more than 15 sec. of the rotating "working" icon before it actually pastes a copy of those four patches. In v17 this same process takes less than a second. Is there a v18 switch I'm unaware of that is creating extra "bookkeeping" to go on in the background?

Hi everybody, this thread here is more or less a placeholder for my benchmark tests and more stuff I am currently at with my new computer based on a AMD Ryzen 7 1700 concerning A:M. Currently there is not much to see here, but stay tuned . Presently trying to edit the F curves on an animation sequence and having all sorts of "fun" doing so. Can anyone kindly suggest a broad strategy for going about the process?. Mainly trying to stop feet going through the floor plane and smooth out positional changes as it approaches or moves away from the keyframe. If I adjust one bone until it works, it inevitably affects the position of another. Its probably age catching up with me but, it can get very involved and confusing very quickly. I wondered if there was a fairly standard way of approaching the problem, such as starting where in the bone heirachy, what type of interpolation to use. I appre…

@fraizer writes... -I recall the chor problem (fixed in a later version I recall) but it's exceedingly rare that I ever save work as a chor. I always work with a PRJ that has everything embedded. -I'd have to see the path circumstances to guess at the path problem. -If you are on an annual subscription your license should allow you to also install/run v19.0 which still has a Mac version. Try that and see if the .pre setting are more comprehensive. We have Live Answer Time at Noon CDT tomorrow if you would like to look at this in real time.

I'm trying to refine my workflow a little and am curious... Can we bake Patch Images into the images that result from Baking Surfaces? As far as I can tell they aren't considered part of the surface that gets baked. As they are defined by the patches themselves they'd be especially useful in defining regions for decal images created by the bake. So I'm curious to know know if they actually can or cannot be included in the bake. I'm not seeing a way to accomplish that here. As a workaround there is always the tried and true methodology of a simple screen capture and decal placement. Having patch images in the bake would skip those manual steps for p…

Wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it here as I will be refering to AM. GPU rendering. Is it faster and if so are there any plans to incorporate this feature into AM? If it was implemented I would pay a little extra to get the functionality. I think GPU rendering, if faster, would be worth more on the over head price of AM. ...any thoughts???

I would like to test if it is possible to animate a model in Animation Master and then use the action file to control an animatronic version of the model in the real World. I wonder if there is any documentation about the contents of the Animation Master action files? It would be more efficient to read a specification instead of just guessing and testing... (The idea is to translate the pose values into commands to Control servos in an Arduino setup.)

I managed to get my entry for the wall contest done in time and was working on a higher res version for myself when the following strange problem occurred. Here is the model from the view of an ortho camera. It shows the shades as they have been previously. This the same scene rendered from the perspective camera, immediately after the above. All the settings are the same the only thing that has changed is the camera viewpoint and type, ( orthogonal to perspective ). As you can see. It now appears as if she is wearing a mask at the opera ? Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be and, most importantly, how to fix it ? re…

In the distant past I vaguely recall that it was possible to save an animation in a chor and edit it as an action file before reapplying in a chor ? But can't remember how to do it, can anyone kindly point me in the right direction? Baking actions seems to add a key on every frame, is there a way to just save the keys already set without adding further in the baking process ? I'm trying to do a dance sequence and, rather than redo it all, would like to use it as an action so I can get several figures doing the steps at the same time. regards simon Edit I found how to do it, clicking in PWS and selecting,EXPORT as Action. Working in V17G under OSX 10.68. Having some very frustrating problems setting up the lighting for the dance sequence. Sometimes the lights aren't rendering and , when they do, changes in position are not reflected in the render. First screen shot shows the render, notice the spot position with the values highlighted. Second screen shot shows no effective change in render but the spots position has been drastically altered. I refreshed the window carefully and advanced and rest the timeline after the change to allow it to take effect. For such a large positional change I was expecting a much bigger change in render Any help gratefully received. …

This has had me puzzled for some time. I have a scene where the camera cranes down toward an object. The frames 0 + 2-10 renders normally, but frame 1 takes ages - at first I thought that A:M had crashed, but then realized that it just rendered and rendered and rendered and rendered...even if nothing at all is in the frame. The culprit seems to be the displacement on the object. If I turn of the displacement (or change it to bump) the long wait on frame one disappears. But why, oh why? What is happening in frame one?? Why ONLY in frame one? And why superlong rendering in an empty frame? If anyone like to take up the challenge I have attached all files here.

After several months of frustrations with El Capitan, 10.11.6, I was obliged to upgrade to Mojave, 10.14.4, today. One of the reasons I had been reluctant to do so had been the question of compatibility with AM. Haven't tried it fully yet but, on opening it for the first time, a message from Apple flagged up saying it was not entirely compatible with Mojave and to contact the developer. The first thing noticed was that the drop down buttons in the PWS didn't seem to work. Could move the bones in an action but, not close down the drop down lists. Is there a patch available for V18 or a workaround? Thank you for any help. simon

Hey Animation Master. As owner of versions V8.0 & V11.1 I thought to buy the newest version of the AnimationMaster. So I linked to the webstore and filled in the chart formula and waited for a few weeks. Now I'm here with V16.0 and I'm glad all over. How come your version V17.0 is out since 4 august 2012 and I bought the latest pack 24 august? sincerely yours, madfox.

Hey Everyone. I have a chain of bones. (Bone 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) I'm constraining them to a spline using a path constraint. I want them to move along the path keeping their distance. But when I constrain each bone to the path, they attach to the same start point right on top of each other. Is there a way to offset each bone so that the chain does not group together to follow the path? Thanks, William

I started to use markers in the chors a while back. The work has improved since ! However, sometimes they appear and sometimes they don't? For example, have just setup some in a top view and entered the place values for them. The arrows are there on the window frame, but the lines don't appear in the window. In the front view meanwhile, those lines do show. Is this a known glitch ? regards simon 0SX V17g

I had said I was going to do "cloth" as the topic of my next "It Can't Be Done" series but that is looking to be a major endeavor I don't have time for right now. I hereby re-open the table for nominations. If you have a smaller-scale miracle that you'd like to see done in A:M, suggest it below! If you suggested something last time around and are still interested in that topic, re-nominate it! I will pick one based on based on my own judgement of general interest and feasibility and the winner will, of course, receive their choice of memoir by Martin D. Hash! If, by chance, you missed the previous "It Can't Be Done"... check it out!

Kudos to Steffen for the recent improvements in OBJ texture importing in v18p. Thanks! And to make this something of a useful topic... here's something related to consider... There are a gazillion models out there on the internet to play with but I recently tested some of the Models donated to the Sweet Home 3D community. The process is pretty straightforward: download the library of models, open them in Sweet Home 3D, export as OBJ, import into A:M. The models page: http://www.sweethome3d.com/freeModels.jsp The program download: http://www.sweethome3d.com/download.jsp What is particular useful with the program is how you can use it to recolor/…

Hello, Able to model using the window "action" is interesting. However, to my knowledge, we need to export the action in a new *.mdl, and open the new model in a new window, to take advantage of the changes. Is there a faster way, without having to export to a new *.mdl, but applied directly the action to the origin *.mdl?

As most of you know, "Tin Woodman of Oz" was a full-length 3D animated movie made by this forum using A:M (of course). Some of you participated in it. I'm very proud of it though it never received the acclaim it deserved, I follow the YouTube views of the various parts. In 10 years, the most viewed scene is Nancy Gormanzano's "Hippogyraf Song." (Nancy did several of the songs, she was awesome.) The question I've always had was why does this scene have 3x as many views as the next most popular, and 10x as many views as most of the movie? Perhaps you could comment... p.s. I know it has hardly any views compared to most things. My goodness, I have a home video on …

Having some trouble with the Happy Families project and don't know if its caused by the Hardware, a mac mini running OSX 10.85 with 4Gb of RAM or, have I corrupted the file somehow ? It started with the last scene ( the one with the hard edged lights ) which was taking up to three hours to render some frames, 20 minutes the next, with variations inbetween. Started on the final scene and have manged to get the first pass at the animation done so, while waiting to review that, thought to setup the lighting properly. Introduced the set model but, every time I tried to render a quick test it crashed AM. That was in V17. So switched to V18 and tried that. With…
