This is a screenshot from an animated film I'm doing that will end up being around 9 minutes. It will be 3D with some 2D painted backgrounds, compositing, etc. This screenshot was largely from a 20 second test of my character, constraints, etc. etc. She comes up with the music box lid, and then dances around in a little repeated ballet move. The key turns, and her feet come off the pivot sometimes but that's intentional, because she's a character, not a doll. I'm quite happy with it so far, still tweaking (in between writing grant applications). Thanks to Vash, Colin, Josh, Vern and a bunch of other people I don't know. Sean

I'm getting closer and closer to getting this thing done! Once Lillith here is finished then I've got one more robot to do. Then I finish my script, make the two space ships and any other sets I need. After that I start animating the show. Check my latest progress report on robotoon.tv

Here's an example, no audio yet, of using distortions in the face to get some elasticity into it.... I plan to add more 'extremes' to these poses, seems you just can't make them extreme enough. In this scene MissD. complains about her boots... 'stars' were added in After Effects using an animated morey pattern. SHOE2.mov

Hi I was playing around with making a metal material today. Then I thought it would be fun to apply it to one of the first models I made in A:M a long time ago, Robbie the Robot. I'm pretty sure I did him from a tutorial but I have no idea where the tutorial came from. Anyway, I started playing with a ground material and stuff and just had some fun. Thought I'd post the result here for folks to take a gander at. Hope you like it.

Things were slow at work the other day so I spent some time playing with walk cycles. I'm not taking this further at the moment so it's not exactly a work in progress, but I thought you might enjoy these. Comments welcome! KeyKat_render01_h264.mov

I started modelling this head in wings, so I could block out the main shapes, then put in A:M. It still took me quite a while to get this far, but It was faster and turned out better than starting in A:M. I'm not very good at heads. Feel free to make comments. The eyes are somewhat anime, and I need to do more around the nose, as well as endless smoothing.

Since I was doing My racing Jets, I looked at some pictures of the Nevada Air races and I saw the birds doing hard turns around checkered pylons, I thought it would be cool to have the Jets screaming around a checkered blimp. In the nose and tail I did some things that I knew would give me puckering, like I saw in the images of real blimps. one Part that disappoints me is that you can hardly see the cool five bladed propeller that I put on the nacelles

I am putting out a casting call for animators to create a monologue using your characters and any audio piece whatsoever. This is just for fun. I thought it would be interesting to see what people come up with. Here is mine: Chameleoid's Audition

I created some images for the local residents group to show the effect of widening a road and adding parking on the roadside. I've only had time to build one car, a basic Audi which uses a colour map for most of the detail, but I widened the road in a paint program and then used a camera rotoscope with the ground set to front projection. I might build some more cars, they're always useful for bg / architectural work, but the image is for a meeting tomorrow and will probably never be seen again.

I am playing around with Sam and the 11second club audio file. Not sure if i will have time to finish it. The rig is great, but making a character alive and believable is still hard. So many things I feel look strange, 11 seconds seems huge. I encourage everybody to try tthis great rig though. Ten_second_march23a.mov Michel

Hey everyone I'm back!-that's right I left . I took a 3 month break from the forums so I could focus more on animation. Here's what I pooped out. (I would really appreciate critiques. Forget that "Dont say anything at all if you dont have anything nice to say" stuff, rip them apart, that's how I learn.) Please be patient with files, they can take while to load, but do not exceed 4mb Lets start from where we left off, heres the revised version of my first walk that I posted three months ago. I still cant get the 'choppiness' of the last frames to go away. ***Walk*** + Walk in Simplified Shapes (Eliminates most of the choppy parts) A ball reacting to…

Shaggy called me at work the other day, and told me that he was tired of being homeless, and asked me if I could help him get a house. So, being the caring guy I am, I decided to build him a house, nothing to fancy, and still needs work, cause all it has is a garage, and a living room. So, I was needing a little input on how to add the interior to this model. It is scaled at 22 feet high, about 40 or so feet wide, and the garage is about 30 feet deep or maybe shorter I cant remember. Anyways, just thought I would get some advice from fellow hashers. Thanks James [attachmentid=11777]

Hi I am trying to get back to animating again. I was messing around and did a few dance moves for my frogman today. Just a little thing but I haven't animated in a looooooong time. That will change though. I'm gonna get back to boot camp on Monday. Got some things to do before then. Then I will do work on TWO. Anyway, it feels good to move bones around again. This one is just for fun but feel free to rip at it. Edit: fixed feet through floor. frogman2.mov

If anyone out there has a sountrack for a movie WHICH THEY MADE THEMSELVES, PLEASE contact me at simon@baldrix.com !!! Your sontrack will be used in the movie along with full credit for the composition. Please send me any, even if you do not think it is very good because we would like some sountracks that are not already used in another movie, or copyrighted!!! Well, it's that time of year again. The Druids are gathered at Stonehenge to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the standing stones on the longest day of the year. Romantic, fanciful minds turn to thoughts of Shakespear and fairies. Time to dig out an old file but,,, AGGGHHH! Suddenly my old AVIs won't play! Has anyone found that renders they have done in the past refuse to run on newer versions of MS Media Player? This is the only one that I could get to run. One of my very first A:M tests from a few years ago. Happy Midsummers Day!

It appears that when an object is put into the choreography window, the size of the bounding box and bone have little relationship to the size of the object. Frequently, an object like a house has a box approximately the size of the object. But, on the other hand, a very small object gets a bounding box that would hold Cinncinnati. Case in point: the bridge segment. The bounding box is nearly 300% bigger that the whole project. To put the cursor on the tip of the bone to rotate, I'm zoomed out so far, I can no longer see the object, let alone adjust its position. [ the red dot ids the bridge segment] I could zoom in so it's easily visible, then enter number values to…

Everyone has seen Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi right? Well you know the Imperial Biker Scout- the Imperial dudes that ride the speeder bikes. I have modeled everything except the helmet- I've tried to model it for the past 2 to 3 weeks and it never looks right. Could anyone model one up for me for Animation Master 11.1 (A:M 2005) please? This would be a great help. The animation I am doing will require the Biker Scout, so if anyone would offer any help I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm trying to add some haze to a night scene, but all settings convert it to daylight [camera background color being white] I tried other colors, but they don't look right. I tried black, which preserved the 'night-ness' but loses the sense of haze in the fore ground. How to get a light haze with a night sky?

Hi! I have been tinkering with an old project and have noticed that an old problem still exists in A:M12. The problem is that if I have dynamics turned on for the hair of my character and I have dynamic bones elsewhere on the character there is some kind of interference set in motion between the two. Some of you may remember an old test that I did with a Woot model whose coat-tails would fly up when the hair dynamics was turned on. This problem still exists in version 12 (v?) and I wondered if it has been solved in version 13. Another problem that I am experiencing with this character is her hair. I have the constraint set to 'spring' because that always seems t…

We don't all have broadband so may I politely suggest to people posting images directly into the forum messages that you take some steps in reducing the size of them - use thumbnails with links off to full size images somewhere else if necessary. And by size I mean keep them under 50kb. People like me just aren't going to sit around for 5 minutes waiting for the images to download! If I did I would never get through the forum posts! Cheers

So after finally getting my act together and upgrading to 13 I realized that it's been a looong time since I spent some quality time with am's renderer. That's right, I'm a modelling tweaking addict, nothing is ever good enough to render for me. So I decided to make an abstract simple scene and use it to play around with and try to make it drastically different each time I render it. I constrained myself to only changing rendering options, lights, and materials. The camera position and geometry are locked down, you have no idea how tempting it is to twiddle with these for me . So here are the first 3 in hopefully what may become a large series. I'll attach…

Pretty self explanatory. When I use a decal and apply it as a distortion map, it produces these tears in my model's arms. The percentage is only set to about 70, so it's not like it's stretching the map all to heck and back. The decal is applied in a on/off pose with the models arms set to origin in the correct orientation with a "cylindrical" application method. What is causing these tears?
