I am wondering how to make a camera's orientation follow the twisty curvy paths orientation like the one shown in the video, or more importantly, how to make a coaster car follow the orientation of the path. Making the camera or object follow the track is easy enough by making one of the pipes splines the path. Also, I was able to create two path constraints from the camera to the two outside rails which keeps it from moving into the mesh when the track twists and turns. I thought that would actually cause some weird circular constraint problem but it didn't. But I would like for the camera or for the coaster car to be oriented the same way as the track. In other wor…

Thanks to all the respondents. Here are the results (as of 2/24/2006 7:30 AM EST) in graph form (engineers like graphs). When the results are listed by category: Hobby-15 Freelance-8 Limited Freelance work-3 Freelance AM Main tool-3 Contests-2 Other-2 AM at Work-1 After combining the categories (Hobby & Contests) (Freelance, Limited Freelance work, Freelance AM Main tool) I was surprised to see the percent of people using A:M for paid work. Somehow I had the notion the percent of A:M users doing paid work was around 10%. Now obviously this is not a scientific poll as there were 34 respondents out of a total user base of (thousands). It is…

In case you haven't seen it, Zach has a video podcast which he updates regularly with his work: http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/vodcast.html His stuff is always great, but this week's Olympic-themed video is particularly hilarious. Zach probably has the most consistently laugh-out-loud animations, and I can't imagine why you wouldn't subscribe to this excellent podcast. Go do it now!!

Here is a character is that I've been working on for a tiny short. Its a very simple character but I've been using it to try to learn to model and use the hair system. Over the course of the next few days/weeks, I'm hoping to tweak the model some, add a basic skeleton and set of controls, and possibly do an animation test or two in this thread. Suggestions in any area of the process at any time are greatly appreciated, Thanks, --Ross

Here is a new revision of the mouth creature. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/walk.avi I like the skin on this one. Thanks a bunch to Will for the excellent tute on mapping! One point though, if you use the approach of using one image pasted "through" the body, (from one side) the bump map portion becomes inverted on opposite sides. Color is fine, it's just the bump map. Due to normal direction I suppose. I now understand how to use the UV editor, and it is a gas! Cory

John Burch and I have been collaborating on an industrial visualization project. John has done an excellent job, particularly considering his exposure to industrial automation was zero before he started on this project with me. John's website is http://www.lizardfire.com check it out, he has some great stuff there, and also consider him for contract work. This image is for an automation company. Their client wanted to see a virtual example of what the 2d drawing looked like. The work is meticulous and requires great attention to detail. David

I have always wanted to see what doom 3 would look like if I rendered it with radiosity. The game engine does not have any baking for lighting, so every light is ray traced. I've used the editor to take measurements of the garage I wanted to recreate, and I'm using textures from Doom 3 for all of the surfaces. The entire geometry took me around twelve hours to input into A:M, but the results are already very cool. Here is a render that I did yesterday with photon mapping but with no texturing. [attachmentid=14610] Since the image was rendered, I have added railing, more pipes, wires in the back area, and a few textures. The animation shows the room a bit …

Went through my pc and came across an older project where I made a base female body (for something to work off from). So I decided to make my griffon project again which was why I was inspired to make the base body. Here is the finished head attached to my base body. Might be pointying her ears, I haven't decided yet. This is my first female head ever after I don't know how many years of modeling. I think it looks pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. Next to build clothing and armor for my griffon rider. Comments welcome .

http://www.happybigfun.com/Robotsrobotsrobots.html It is my intention to make a monthly five minute animated podcast (web series) featuring sentient robots at war. It will be called "Robots Robots Robots!" Right now, none of them can change forms, but at some point I'm going to try to make a robot that can transform. I won't use that term in the series cause I don't want to get sued. The plan, inspired by beast wars, is to make 8 robots, a few sets, and then continue to re-use those same models throughout the series. This will take some time to start up, but my hope is that it will only take a month to make each episode once all the models are made and I'm only …

Hi everybody, My first bigger 3-D Animation job is online now and I am eager to hear your opinions. Its the middle-toonpart of a flash-animation. To view it go to: http://www.vw-polo.de then wait until the "real"-animation of the car has ended. Then you can choose > Helden (heroes ) > Gewinner (winner) > Abenteurer ( adventurer) now you get my toonrenndered animations ... at the end with "nochmal spielen" you can play it again. Great thanks to everybody, who helped me on finishing this job. I learned a lot ;>) Jake

Here's mine... Render and zipped file. Rename your original 'Default Chor.cho' file to something like 'Default Chor Old.cho'. Then place the Default Chor.cho from my zip file in your Hash Inc\V13.0 folder. I can create this for V12, but I am making this for the new Extra CD and V13 should be a done deal by then. EDIT: 8:30pm 02/16/2006, I updated the zip file... per Ken's suggestions, you can now drop a 7' character in the chor and it will be perfect. defaultchor_timelord.zip

Soft introduction...my name is Busby .... I am new to 3D and (of course) Animation:Master. I work with Colin Freeman and hence picked up the A:M bug from him. I have been working with this software for almost 2 months. My wife has since put a divorce lawyer on speed dial, but I am confident that I can win a balance between the family thing and the A:M coolness. I will make a more formal introduction elsewhere on this forum later..but.... I wanted to ask a question... This is Phifer............ as I read through the newton physics and rebuild notes I had a thought. An hour and a couple of old models later I got this. Basically I took simple models and used the rebuild plugin to create panelled versions. I thought it was cool and potentially useful for high tech backgrounds, although it does waste a lot of patches. [attachmentid=14460]

I am proud to announce the release of Froggy Boxing. This is a one punch and one block button mashing game. If you want tons of fancy characters and moves buy street fighter. If you want to beat up a frog, this game is for you. There is no installer, just download it to your desktop and run the exe file. Sorry there is no mac version of this game. Here it is: http://www.3dfrog.com/wips/froggyboxing/froggyboxing.zip I hope you have fun playing it. Pass it around to your friends if you think they will like it. Kids will probably like this game the most. Happy Boxing

Well, here is the 'in progress' renders of a section of the roadway deck and of the south tower. Lots of detail to add to the top of the south tower and more for under the road deck. Also there are many MANY other lights that are designed to illuminate the towers at night, so I'll be adding those as well. This model will have the lights added. I will probably need some help with that as I'm not quite sure how Yves did his skylights with only one light and the action added it numerous times to the skydome. I'd like to do the same thing here, where all the regular street lights are copies of one 'type' of light and the spot (klieg) lights for the tower i…

I've got the front part of the bike almost finished, so I thought I'd post some pics: [attachmentid=14390] I'm trying to use the image on the cover of the DVD case as my main reference. I wish I knew how to take screencaps off of the dvd to use for other views. I have some views of the McFarlane model, but it isn't exactly accurate, and its scale is too small compared to the Kaneda figure, so I'm trying not to rely on those too much. This is going on my modeling reel, so feel free to crit the crap out of it.

Hey, Here is a 3 segment shot I just rendered out. (about 5Mb) http://www.dustinproductions.com/files/Dustin-3-views.m1v It shows the same virtual scene from 3 different angles (actually this is the first time I have been able to get more than one camera in a live action environment to work). Of course after is been rendered I see all kinds of flaws, but knowing the keen eye here on the forum, I thought ya'll could tear it apart for me and point out the things to fix. Things I know are wrong. 1. Truck is too large 2. Car is too small. 3. Too much lean on the car going through the corner. 4. Seems to be on small deviation in the path (horizontal)…

I recently had a system and software crash that made the prj file not accessible. Sent the file to the guys at HASH. I then went on to another project. I received an email late yesterday afternoon with the corruption removed and the prj file restored. I did loose two models inside the project but received 90 of the file back. This has caused me to back up files off the system and back up individual models on so on and so on. So thanks to the guys at HASH for the help Steve

I am experiencing unexpected results from my fire emitter. It appears as if their is a force in the "Z" direction, when in fact their is none defined in the chor. Below are views of what is happening. As you can see, the flames don't just float up, the also float towards the +z direction as well. I include my project file. Can anybody explain to me what is going on and how to fix it? I can't figure it out. I am using v12.0s for Windows with this one. In the project, Chor1 has a force in it, a cyclinder shape, but it shouldn't be affecting anything on the troll. Chor2 is a copy of chor1, without the force in it. Problems occur in both chors. This is a problem that arises from time to time as you all know. The spinning prop. Here’s how I handled it. I created a three frame action. I rotated the bone prop this way. Frame 0: 0 degrees. Frame 1: -120 degrees. Frame 2: -240 degrees. ( the plus or minus determines the direction of rotation, I wanted it clockwise from the pilot’s point of view) I added 10 percent blur. (Default is 20) But I was still getting a solid prop. To overcome this I made the blades 85 percent transparent. But in the action I only rendered frames 0 and 1. I did this because the blur won’t show up on frame 3. I’ve enclosed a single frame image as well as the actio…

In trying to learn modeling I gave myself the task of creating my Juno 60 synth in AM. The shadows are a little dark around the black keys in one of close ups, as I was trying to show of the glowy numbers. This was a fun build, not 100 percent accurate, but still pretty close.
