NOTE: I originally posted this on page 3 of the "My first spline head" thread, but now think that may doom it to obscurity .... so here it is by itself. Please take a look at this 10 second (2.6Mb - QT Sorenson 3) lipsync clip and fire away with suggestions. It's definitely time for some objective input! Lighting and textures were not my main focus here. I just wanted to try my hand at lipsync first, test my rig, and learn the interface. http://www.scc.net/~mbs/lipsynctest16.mov Also, I'd like to compress this further to get below the 1Mb file size limit so I can post it on this forum and not on a separate web page. What's the best format to use?

Well, well, I have been rereading the walks section of the "Animator Survival Kit", and I wanted to make a cycle that no appear in the book, I wanted to "create" a cycle, from my imagination. Then I remembered the Insect Model and immediately come to my head the image of Hopper (the grasshopper of "A Bug's Life"). And I sit in front my computer to make a cycle of this kind, and the result is....................... Front View Perspective view P.D: Please select with the right button and "save target as..." Today, in a fit of boredom, I made a 3D Thom icon for A:M on my desktop, because it's silly for a 3D app to have a 2D icon. And then that project mutated into this:

Hello All, I was wondering if there is a "Make Spherical Map" button in Photoshop? Plugin? I have an image that I would like to use as a spherical decal, and I know the top and bottom need to be "stretched" so they map on the Sphere correctly, but I don't know an easy way to do this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Eugene

I haven't got the facial expressions and lipsync yet. it will be awhile till I get to it, got a few other things to take care of first. Tell me what you think so far, should I add or change anything. I'm trying to set up a mast light with 3 different colored lights. I want to be able to turn the glow on for the desired color, red, amber and green. Not all at once. Any thoughts? Attached is an image. P.S. Mast lights are used in industrial equipment to indicate status. Red means fault. Amber means alert. Green means................ Everythings OK (you thought I was going to say go, didn't you). Thanks in advance for your help d

I'm not sure if this is just something I'm doing wrong, so I thought I'd ask before I submitted it to Hash. I posted it here so that I could attach the sample project. I have been getting some errors when making a key frame when there's a bone that rotates on the "Z" axis. I put together a project file here that illustrates what I'm encountering. In "Action1", rotate the "redhalf" bone (it should be the only one visible) on the "Z" axis (the limits are set where it should only move that way anyway), then set a key. If you are getting what I am, the geometry will move when you set the key and it will move a little more if you hit the button to set the key agai…

I know this is to be for WIP, but it's the only place where you can post an image, although I guess I could upload the file to my website. I'm having a problem decaling a beveled box. The decal ends up skewed, regardless of the format (.tga, .jpg). Tried different decals also. thanks, d

Hello All, A few years back I modeled the confederate submarine the CSS Hunley (C.L. Hunley) for a Hash image contest, I think it was my first model as well....sense that time the Hunley has been raised from the depths and its actual configurations are known, so I have started a new more acurate model of the Hunley...I also plan on detailing the inside at some point. I've attached a couple images of this WIP below.....far from finished inside or out. Mike Cossey

Even though I use other polygon modeler to archive my assets, many of organic models is still in prj. Very few these kind of work here, I do realistic rendering mostly. Any other good looking insect? I saw a dragonfly for sale not too long ago, can't remember where.

Here's part of what I showed a potential customer. It really pales compared to the work the rest of you guys do, but it performs a very specifc function for the industrial equipment buyer. Most purchasers (VP's etc.) of industrial equipment are not engineers, and have a VERY difficult time understanding CAD drawings. They very quickly understand an animation. I can communicate in 15 minutes what would take an hour otherwise. Remember, most automated equipment STARTS at $150,000 and can easily cost millions, so they need to understand how it will work. This approach works very well. My hope is to continue to build a library of industrial items so …

Ok, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to animate a chain and sprocket like on a bicycle, but I see no easy way to do this. The easiest way I can think of is to use a path in a chor, and add a bone to each link in the chain that would follow the path. Then, I guess I would have to constrain the path to the sprockets. Please let me know if you have any better way to do this?? Oh, another question...why isn' it possible to add a path in an Action? Wouldn' this be useful? Thanks, Eugene

Hello, all. I'm in the early stages of modeling a set for a short piece I'm working on, but I'm getting some strange artifacts that I can't seem to shake. I based my volumetric settings on this thread ( http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3994 ), but I don't seem to be getting the same quality of render. Number one issue is the sharp diagonal banding on the light shaft. I've set my klieg width to zero, as instructed, but no dice. It's not the "quality" setting in the volumetrics, either--even at 99999%, the banding is as sharp as ever. Number two is the missing shadows behind the urinal pipes. What happened to them? Is it because of the Z-bu…

Hi, this is my first post here and I thought it would be a good idea to kick things off with my idea for a project. Anyone who is familiar with the Silent Hill game series would probably get a kick out of this. A while back, I played a Silent Hill RPG with a few friends. Horror generally doesn't translate to a TTRPG very well, but our GM did a spectacular job scaring the crap out of us on a regular basis. And now that the game is over (at least for the time being), I had an idea to put together a series of short animated films based on our adventures. So far I have very little work done, other than a VERY low-quality model with simple materials and boning done, but t…

I was just poking around today with decals and how I can use them to breath life into a character. So far, I was able to give my simple "2 patch count" ninja model about five facial expressions, it worked for his eyes so I know it'll work for his mouth phonemes although I didn't bother making them. Just curious in what some of you think about it... quickface.mov

Hey... I am new to the A:M and to 3D animation in general. One of the places that I was recommended to spend some time was Renderosity.com. When I went there, I found almost no one that used A:M. There is only one picture created with A:M there. Because I didn't know a lot about 3D, I pretty much ignored A:M until I finally figured it was worth exploring anyway (I ended up buying both Shade LE and Poser 5 as animation tools before looking into A:M). Anyway, I was hoping that some of you would sign up at Renderosity (http://www.renderosity.com/) and put some of your stills up there. It might help people like me to see the value of A:M and give it a chance early on. …

We are working on our first CG film over here after a few years of traditional stop-motion work. Our problem is in deciding which route to take. We are leaning toward cel shading for the project we are planning. It seems to compliment the stop-motion work done in the past, but second opinions are always welcome here. So... what do you think: 3-D? or Cel Shade? I have a little poll on my site for those that care to participate: Justincurfman.com News Here are some of our past stop-motion films

A friend asked me to do a graphic for his Barbershop Quartet called "Four Aces" and this is what I came up with on the first attempt. Comments and Suggestions are welcome. The idea is the suits came from the cards that lay and stand in the background (that's the reason why the cards are missing their center suit graphic). http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/Fo...1804%20crop.bmp --John Zsigo

Hi all, This is the first real model I have done without a tutorial. It is based on a simple pencil drawing I did. Everything you see was done with A:M's shaders and bump maps. I like the way the model is going, but it doesn't feel quite real, and I am not quite sure where to go with it at this point. I welcome any suggestions, comments critiques or advice. Oh, just to get you started, I know the trigger is terrible. I'm already planning to work on that. Thank you, Mal

Hi, everyone. I'd really like critiques on this new model for my next short. I'm looking for a somewhat cartoony and simple look suitable for some loose, squashy-stretchy animation. Comments about improving appeal or style would be especially appreciated. I'll probably do some texturing and surface tweaking, but not a whole lot. Yeah, I know... wireframe. Comin' up next. Thanks!

It's not often I get the time to sit down and actually use A:M - certainly nowhere near as often as I would like. However, recently I managed to cobble together this piece of silliness: http://www.stuart.rogers.clara.co.uk/Mattress_sor3H_320.mov [ QuickTime6 - 5.4MB. I'm sure I ticked the 'internet fast start' box when I built this file, but it doesn't seem to be doing this, so you'll have to wait until it loads. Ho hum.] Strictly speaking it should be in the WIP section, as there's plenty more that needs to be done on it, but enough is enough - I've spent enough time on it and now want to get on with something else.
