Hi all, I've been pecking away for a bit, and came up with this. Please c&c about it. I'm interested in hearing about the shoulders and hips-are they workable? I've thought about stitching a spline across the chest into the deltoids to help definition, also one on either side of the center line to better define the abs. I 'm modeling him bald so I could use the hair feature, but I'm thinking of adding 'hanks' of conical hair splines for a simpler, toonier look. Some of the included models in AM seem to have these hanks 'stuck in' any wich way-this animates/renders OK? Thanks in advance for your help. Ww (Brian)

Hello, I just finally finished my first animated short film. It took me 18 months to complete but finally got it done. I want to thank everyone who answered my posts when I ran into problems your help was much appreciated. Anyway, if you want to take a look at it, I would love any comments - good or bad - here is the website I created for it. "Samurai Gumstick - The Evil Fly" http://www.samuraigumstick.com (click on "LOAD: THE EVIL FLY MOVIE" button") Thanks again, Eric LoCascio

I finished a still of a diamond sitting on whats supposed to be a velvet pillow, and I also just finished the main character (if you can call it that since it is an electronic arm ). I am going to make a short story which includes the diamond and the arm and the pillow... Heres the diamond... and a test animation using the arm is rendering right now

Hey everyone, Thanks to you answering all my question over the past several months - I have created my first rigged character and put him in a short intro animation. I am currently working on a full 3 1/2 minute animation with him in it called "The Evil Fly", which should be done in a month or so. Here is a link to the animation: Character Intro Link Again, thanks for all your support in help in quickly answering all my posts. Eric LoCascio

Hi there. This is not really a WIP, just my first attemt at animating. I know it is not that great (and there are many problems, including the right shoulder on the follow through, sliding on the ground, etc.), but just wondering if I can get some comments. Thanks, Logan H. Here are the Links: Front View Left Angle From Above

Hi, Thought it was about time to post something instead of simply reading everyone else's posts! I've been working on this 'guy' for the last couple of months, in between work, kids and all that... I've finally finished the basic model and now need to start tweeking / texturing / rigging etc. I'm armed with many tutorials (thanks to ShaunF for his wonderful and inspirational website, and 3DArtz for the CogJoints tutorial), so this could take a long while. Not even really sure what I'm going to do with him other than practise some animation, although I don't think this guy will be the brightest of sparks - I think I'll have a lot of fun with his eyes. Any thoughts,…

I've had A.M. now for 3 weeks. Watching and reading tutorials here at the forums as helped me to better understand spline/patch modeling. Thanks all! I come from box polygon modeling before getting A.M. The biggest lesson I learned so far is spline continuity. Then the limited but usefull use of 5 point patches (knowing when to use them or not) and hooks. I still have got lots to learn but here is the wip so far. The creature is not tweaked on his anatomy, no reference used, just started at the feet and worked up from there to help learn spline modeling. Oh yeah, no head yet LOL.

I'm still just a few inches off the ground, at the foot of the A:M learning curve. After some messing around with tutorials, I decided to have a shot at making a figure of my own. I think this Work In Progress is probably just progressing towards the trashcan - it has too many splines in some places and not enough in others, endless 3 and 5-point patches, some dead-end splines and lots of other bad stuff ('cos I don't yet know how to do it better). But I thought that making a figure of my own (complete with errors that will make it difficult or impossible to rig and animate) might be the quickest way to learn WHY models have to be built in a particular way. Bu…

Well, it's been years, but I finally started on my first female character. Let me state first off that the character I am supposed to be modeling is supposed to be small breasted, but for some reason they got modeled bigger. I am quite serious when I say I tried to model them smaller and ended up with her looking slightly more voluptious. I will be working on reducing the breast area when I make the actual character. This version will be my female base for later use anyway. This isn't done yet so please keep that in mind. I had trouble getting this far with the model. I think modeling only males has hampered me in this area. Comments and suggestions al…

This is my first head and I've done it without any rotoscopes (because can't draw but I can sculpt). I'm nowhere nere finished but I'm not sure the neck lines will work well when he turns his head. Can someone tell me before I continue? He is a superhero that I am creating so I want him to have a strong jawline and stocky neck. I still want him to be cartoony like a buzz lightyear. You may notice he isn't that way right now but I didn't want to continue until I made sure I was on the right track. face.tga

I've had AM for sometime and decided to model a human as a way to improve my skills. I'm not completely happy with the proportions of the face and would appreciate comments from any real artists on the forum. I think she looks too masculine. There are no decals on the skin, just procedurals. I planned on using the bump and diffuse procedurals as a base for the decals. I was curious if anyone had used this technique with success. Rudimentary attempts to animate using pose sliders seemed to work really well, but I wasn't completely happy with the model and had to delete the poses. (that was a learning experience right there) I modeled the body separately and …

Hi, Here is a movie of my first model. A strange looking fellow. It's all original, I'd say I put about 8-10 hours into it. I've learned a lot but I could use some critiques to help me sort out the problem areas (I can upload the project file if that helps or is desired). I used shaggy's hand as a reference when I made mine, but it has some real rough parts. Plus, there is one 5 point patch that will not close, no idea why. See pic. One thing I can't seem to get is where you see a slight "diamond" area in a patch and can't seem to get rid of it. Also, I think I may have used too many hooks. In particular on the top of the hand, they look real bad :/ Pl…

Hello, Here is an update of my 'Mumby" guy. Again this guy is simple a model for me to work on rigging with TSM2 and begin animation practice, so I'm not concerned about getting him perfect. Is there any way I can smooth him up a bit without tweaking splines? Also, with the rounded parts (front of feet, front of nose) I've got these funky triangles where it closes. Will it render like that, can I fix it some way? Also, does anyone know of a tutorial where I can make the surface look like plastic, or clay, or cartoonish in some manner? Something simple perhaps...

The other night my youngest announced that she had a great idea for a Christmas short. She told the story of a Christmas tree that really wanted to go home to spend the holiday with a family of it's own, but was ultimately left in the tree lot all by itself. I liked the story, we chatted, and came up with a quick outline. I tasked Nicole to compose the soundtrack and I would start work on the models. We might not make it by the holidays, since the story has grown to include a lot of elements, one of which is the delivery truck below. Hopefully in a day or so I can put an animatic together to post up here. We could use some help if anybody wants to lend a hand in the story…

Although I've been reading the forum for quite a few months, this may be the first time I post. (Edite: ok, I got 4 posts, so it's not really the first time... but still, I think this is the first time I post an image) This is the main character from a 2D Chinese RPG game "Sword of Hsuan Yuan" (The Ultimate Sword) version 3 made in 1999 (meaning the original design credit is not mine at all). By turning him 3D and "real-looking", hopefully I am not violating any copyright law. I am thinking of using this picture (or an improved version) to enter the Sci-Fi image contest. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

Taking a break from my portfolio (well...... I've just been rendering for a week straight now) and I decided to have some fun and try to model for a change. and here's the result.... First Tsurugi For those of you not into Video Games or Anime (I like to hope were all at least into animation here at least ) This is the sword Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 uses in the CG movie Advent Children. I posted a quick demo just to give you an idea how the model works. tsword.mov …

I wanted to take a break from the tutorials and put some of what I have learned into practice. So far, I have modified Schlitzy by getting rid of most of the hair. Built a room, still need to put trim around the window. Added a layer behind the window for the moonlit background. Added a decal to the floor to simulate hardwood, and added some reflection to it. Finally, played around with the lighting (although, I'm still not sure what I'm doing with them). C & C always welcome. Thanks... Al [attachmentid=20568] [attachmentid=20569]

I just completed a job to produce two one-minute animations about water salinity, osmosis, and fish, for a museum kiosk. I was given the soundtrack, 3ds models of a fresh and saltwater fish, and 10 days to design, model, animate, render (at 1024x768), add close-caption text, and composite the animations. I'm satisfied with the results (the client is thrilled), considering the time limitation (with one person, one computer). I used just about everything in A:M's box of tricks to pull it off. Low-res renders can be seen here (4MB Sor3 QT): http://www.digins.com/jack/s2f_small.mov http://www.digins.com/jack/f2s_small.mov Here is one of the 2D animatics I thr…

Ok, I'm doing a scene where the kat walks up to the beach and see's that his make shift house has been washed away. You'll notice that I haven't done any work on his facial expressions but I'm wanting advice on the movement. Is the motion big enough? Also, do you think everything is timed right for realism and comic relief? Thanks for any C&C. Here's the link http://www.camzilla.net/animation/practice.avi

Ok.... Those of you that were following the other thread, I thought I would post the results of all my spline tweaking. after I had fixed the arm, I had noticed that the leg was jacked up too, so I fixed that. There's still a *tiny* glitch at the back of the leg, but the clay shader mostly hides it. I have attached a couple screenshots, I think you will agree that it looks much much better.
