Is there a plugin or add on that allows you to print the PWS and its contents? For example I have a character with several decals and maps and settings that I would like to save in print form. I am saving all this information to prevent data loss. I have backups on several machines and back up drives but I am old fashion and would love to create a notebook with all the characters and sets and props information. Steve

Ok this will show my limited knowledge of AM and animating with AM. Some of the models for the short I am working on have 2500 patches all the way to 5500. There will be up to 7 characters in a scene at a time. There will also be a city scene with several buildings most of the items will be props as it were but still I can see a large patch count in the chor. So my questions are as follows. In other programs you can render layers at a time. Does AM have that capablility? For example, as the girls walks down the street she will only interact with the sidewalk and street with her shadows. can she be rendered from the chor and then other elements rendered seperate…

I'm not seeing an 'Export' option in the menus, just an 'Import'. Is it possible to export an A:M model in a file format that 3D Studio Max, or G-Max, will recognize?

Hi all, Thanks again to those that helped trouble shoot the problems I was having with the shaders the other day. Now that it's working I was able to find time tonight to tweak some settings and get it MUCH closer to the look I was going for. Some of you may remember this model from a few years ago when I first created it, I'm really excited to be getting back into working with it again. Below is a screen shot of the new and MUCH improved look. Let me know what you think! I've also included a wire frame shot as well. Now for a little more trouble shooting, it looks as though I have a strange thing happening with one of the guide hairs. You can see …

This is my latest WIP. I'll post the actual render when I'm satisfied with the lighting and details, but thought I'd share this version with a PS2 Neon filter applied. It's currently my Desktop.

Hey Spliners! Been awhile since I did any 'show-n-tell'...I've been busy, and A:M V15.0E is at the CORE of my operations. Here are two recent jobs, one for Healthy Balance fruit juice and the other for HoMedics new water filter-er. I'm having good results with Yves new ENVIRONMENT SHADER, but I still tend to render with reflections ON anyway. Both of these animations were needed in HD (720P) and average render times were around 4 minutes per frame, totally acceptible for an overnight render. The juice bottle is actually an engineering file imported to A:M as a .OBJ prop, and given dummy attributes right in the choreography(color, transparency, reflectivity, specular, refr…

Hello All, Oh man it has been a LONG time (over a year I think) since I'm visited here. I haven't had much time in the last few years to spend much energy/time in 3D but I'm making an effort to get back into it. Man I missed it! Anyway, I've started by trying to finish off a few projects that I left unfinished, in doing so I have run into a few issues between the way certain features work back in version 11 through 12.5 and version 14.0c which I am currently using. (Until I know I'm going to have the time and be able to stick with it I wasn't planning on upgrading to version 15 yet as there are changes in the way subscriptions work now.) OK I will post 2 ren…

Just found a great flight-sim game called "OVER FLANDERS FIELDS". So I've been hanging out on their Forum, flying and soaking my head in WWI lore. With A:M at my fingertips, I had to try a few planes. Here's the Fokker D.VIII. Some accounts claim this successor to the justly famed Fokker D.VII was unresponsive to the controls and under-powered due to the Oberusel rotary engine. [Fokker Triplanes shared that engine and problem] Other accounts say that if the war had lasted longer, the D.VIII would have emerged as the deadliest fighter of either side. It suffered from construction problems at first. Fokker's normally high standards had eroded, [he also contracted out a lot …

So this is the first time I've done an animated logo with AM. Turned out pretty good. The company sells Kettlebells which are used for building muscles. For those of you who don't know, muscles are things in your body that are slowly shriveling up as you sit in front of the computer for hours and hours with out moving anything buy your hands and fingers. This isn't the final version. It's a low res sample. The final is HD and doesn't have the orange glow.... man it looks SWEET. I'm watching the final render right now... still about 90 minutes to go. pkb.mov Here's what the final will look like: The zoom was just straight forward key framing wi…

I am creating a basic male model for future modification and reference. It is also a possiblility that I will use this for an advertisement for a medical company and they want a basic model that can demonstrate the medical device that they are making. I have started on the face and have it shaped pretty well but it still needs a lot of tweaking. Please let me know how I can improve it. I have included 3 pictures of the face below. Thanks helping out!

I'm playing with IBL and placing an object in a scene with reflection ala Stian's tutorial. First I render out the background image which I then use as a camera rotoscope. Next the ground is set to Front Projection "on" in order to receive shadows, then I import a sphere with reflectivity set to about 35%. That's when I run into problems. The sphere, although it is not set to Font Projection "on", has a transparent image of the rotoscope on it. It's supposed to have the reflection of the environment sphere on it, not the rotoscope. What am I missing here? When I remove the rotoscope from the camera, the sphere has the correct reflections, but off course the ground i…

Starting to get real busy here. Had to do some layouts of some cast plates with depressed lettering and imprinted ceramic middles for a client to choose from. Love the displacement mapping in AM, so much easier then messing around with high density poly models or micro displacement. So much quicker for the basic texturing than just about any program I have used in the past. Thanks!

I've been trying to combine a 3d model with some video footage. I was following the tutorial below, but think that it (tutorial) or I are missing some details. My latest test is attached. I was having a heck of a time getting just: 1. flying saucer 2. Shadow of saucer on the ground 3. everything else transparent What I got: 1. Render of the saucer only in PNG w/ transparency 2. Render the shadow only in PNG w/ transparency 3. Combined in vegas pro w/ the vide footage and explorted to mp4. I need to go back through my experiments and produce a matrix of settings so that I can produce model and shadow separately. Seems like I should be able…

My tall character walks fine when I slide the scrubber back and forth, but when I render [shaded] he simply slides along in the starting position. The little guy is fine. I have noticed that when I drop an Action on the tall guy and want, say, six cycles, they don't show as individual blocks in the PWS as do the cycles for the short guy. Is this pointing to the problem? MOTERCYCLE_TEST.zip

Here is an attempt at getting an image with a cool morning light feel. The background is just a decal with cool light color applied and some fog effects. The foreground is modeled with a lot of small individual lights to give the impression of bounced lighting off the floor and walls, etc. Does it work? Any suggestions for improvement?

Foliage is always one of those things that takes time. Fur works great but takes forever, however thanks to the team at hash adding the options for cookie cut decals to cast shadows there is a faster option. Here are a couple of tests. Rendering time was about 20 seconds a frame, with all the detail supplied by cookie cut flat planes and zbufffered lights. leaftest.mov leafBilboard.mov

I am working on a semi- (to high) realistic (we will see how well she will turn out ) model of a girl. She was modeled from scratch and isn't textured yet (apart from the eyes). She needs some more poses for talking- and emotional stuff, but till now I am quite pleased with her. Before I will go on texturing her, I thought I may adress the porceilan-problem I run into. I tried using the porceilan-material, but I got a problem with hooks there. Anyone knows what I am doing wrong there? The final-rendering is without(!) porceilan which looks okay too, but I would like to use the material to make it even more smooth. Any thoughts? Thanks for your comme…

Hello y'all! Been inspired recently to pickup an old project of mine. So imagine a summer day, a breeze whispering to the trees and creating paths through the grass on the hills, gently spinning the windmill that time and nature have left behind. Thats my scene in a sentence. Ive gotten started on the modeling of the windmill. I plan to "try" and create my own procedural rusty metal shaders but may resort to decals or a darktree shader. I will also use hair for the golden grass and leaves on the oaktrees. I may model a barn or some other point of interest too. More coming Photoman

Hi all, I am experimenting with layers. The tractor is supposed to run between the right field-layer in the foreground and the left field-layer behind, wheras the farmhouse and sky are on an extra background-layer. One major drawback: Seems when I toonrender, I can`t avoid an outline around the layers or is there a way? I guess a workaround would be a cookie cut decal on a one patch plane? In fact that leads me to my main question: What really is the difference between a layer and a decal on a plane and which advantage and setbacks does each have?

A few years ago I setup a car suspension rig using surface constraints. The tires were driven by expressions with a use of a bones translation (had some issues, but fixed now). As the model moves along a path, the tires will rotate according to speed and direction. The setup consists of a blank driver pose. The bone that spins the tires and the path ease are driven by the driver pose, with expressions in the chor. The steering of the tires are also driven by a second path consraint of a target bone. truck3.mov

I am trying to re-rig a character, and for the first time, [when making an Action] I find bones that will not rotate, or will rotate on only one axis. For example. In this instance, the arm on the right side of the pic. will move only fore and aft on the Y-axis. I can't move it up or down. On the other side, I can get the base of the thumb to move, but the two other digits won't. I can't even get the "rotate" symbol to show when I move the cursor over the bone. I have the bones 'locked' since I rarely use IK. I've tried IK both ON and OFF. I've unlocked the bones, but instead of moving in the screen plane, the arm section twists and spins around. Thanks for the help on face rigging! Now I'm running into some issues with cloth. I'm having to move the top spline of the cloth group WAY far off for the simulation to run. Problem is, it looks ridiculous when it's like that because the top spline doesn't actually simulate, it just sits there (which I assume is what it's supposed to do). (2nd image is normal, 1st image is "safe" area. When I have the spline moved way out there, it works just fine.) The "deflector" group is the legs. The cloth tutorial I've seen linked when I did a search is a broken .AVI link and a lengthy .pdf which is pretty hard to follow without the video (it looks to be just a word-fo…

Alright, I haven't started on the face yet - I'm setting up the rig for the rest of the body first - but I thought I'd see if you guys have any comments. This will be my first full rig, and if you have any insight on face geometry, let me know! I've attached the facial geometry. I did set up a blink pose just to make sure it would work properly, but other than that the face is completely unrigged. Does the geometry look ok or are there going to be problem areas when I start animating? Thanks for your help! untitled.mov

Yes you get a copy and I get to show the results in my portfolio. I can discuss further details for those interested. Ideally, I would like to find a great T-Rex, Enterprise model, weapons, a motorcycle(chopper or harley)etc. I can not except every model that is submitted, but I will look and consider all that submit something.
