Is it possible to have two sides of a texture showing in DX from an AmTex export? I see it done in WoW, where if you view the inside of their models, you can see the texture on that side as well. I would like to know how to do this with AMTex. The closest I can get so far is to create two models, and have the normals flipped in the second model and put it in the exact same postion as the other model. This generates double the CPs and creates unnecessary loads of CPs that bog down the models in our game we are making. It is not an apparent problem in the short term, but when you have lots of models loading all at once, the whole show grinds to a halt for several secon…

Hi, I'm a seasoned vetern when it comes to animation, but I'm pretty new to the gaming world (modeling), and have been trying to figure out how to export a model from Animation:Master so that one would be able to use the model and actions created in AM to be used in DirectX. Here's an example of the problem: The model is exported using AMTex, but when the model is imported into DirectX I keep getting this error, "Error 1 Error normalizing vertex bone weights. BoneWeightCollection does not contain any weighting values." Any ideas?

Hiya, I've been away from hash stuff for a while but I do have some experience with the api. I originally wrote an object exporter for the Auran Jet game engine hmmm... about 5 years ago... Anyway, as per the topic, is anyone using microsoft's new offering to create games for xbox 360 and pc? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Andrew

New as of Feb 14, 2020 is Media Molecule's Dreams... which is hard to describe... it is a game-engine... it is an illustration software... it is a modeller, animation and world-builder... all 'contained' within the confines of your Sony Playstation 4 (I don't have a PS4- but now I want one.) Cost is $40USD for the software... the PS4 can be obtained for $400 new or much-much less for the thrifty buyer ( I saw one lightly used with a lot of extra components on my local Facebook Marketplace for $200. The 'upsides' are many... look at that demo-reel... want to make beautiful worldly animations quickly? Want to avoid 'coding'? Want something that will endlessly entertain…

Lately I've been making some 3D video game enviroments using a 3D engine, AM, & AMtrex altogether. Anyhow, when using AMtrex to do the ".X" exports for my models which come out find in the game if they're static... Anyhow, I can't seem to figure out how to export my models with animation. How is that done?

Animation master looks great, but tell me, is it a good idea to create things like game characters and stuff with it? You see, I wanted to use Cinema4D at first, then I saw the complete and utter lack of exporfers and I thought no thanks! So where are some good exporters for AM? Thankyou!

OK, I am going to use AM to create the characters for my RPG. I am going to show you the character sketches very soon, as a matter of fact, my avatar is Dreamer Parvati, one of the characters. I am learning C++ for it....so I should be able to get started soon.

Was wondering if theres a plugin that will allow me to save my models as a .nif. The game engine I'm using doesnt support .mdl. So far the most I've been able to find on the net is about how a guy puts his files in .dxf then imports them to 3ds max and saves them as .nif. I don't have 3d's max and am not interested in paying $3000 for it (or however much it is) =/ Any thoughts?

Hey Folks, I was just wondering if anyone has used Flash as a game engine? I know that it would be fairly simple to make a side scroller using images build in A:M then rendered out flat. Anyone know how? Flashkit.com has a little tutorial, any other good resources? -Alonso

My recent 'discovery' is this application, Fragmotion. It's a fully functional application (Just US$ 20,00! to remove the nags) with many features, ideal for translating and cleaning up models and animations from one format to another. I use it to import .X models exported from AMXtex and saving them as 3D GameStudio MDL7 files. The MDL7 is the newest GameStudio format, which includes vertex animation, bones animation, and in-file textures. Saying that fragmotion is a good replacement for the 3dgs Model Editor (MED) is like saying that Word is a replacement for Notepad. Here is the Good and Evil i have found so far in Fragmotion: GOOD: -…

EDIT: It seems it was more a hack issue. I hope Fragmo continues supporting his great software. Fragmotion 0.85 beta was removed from the site, as well as the forums. That would be just too bad. Let's write to Fragmo!! Visit www.fragmosoft.com

Here is a real-time strategy game unit. This is a fancy way of saying "This model is best viewed from afar.." Feel free to use it in your projects. It is not much when weighed against what I have received from this generous community, but at least it is a start. I hope to offer more once I have reached a stage of completion with my current project. Believe it or not, building an online game is allot of work. Scout Ship

Hi I am starting this thread to post all my progress about my froggy boxing game. I figure I'd do it all here to keep this forum alive and not have things scattered all over the wip forum. Let me tell you about my game. It will be a fairly simple game because I have a lot to learn. I will give it away free when I'm done. If it goes over well I will make ultimate froggy boxing that I will sell. The game will be just one round with knock out or win or lose by points. It will be a one player game with two opponents to choose from, one being harder to beat, the other easier. I dont know how long i'll make the rounds yet, maybe just 5 minutes a game. The set wil…

Ok...so I swiped a copy of Visual C++ 6.0 from work and am slowly slogging my way through a couple of PDF tuts that I downloaded. Very confusing. In the meantime I have been reading the books that I mentioned in other posts as well as some other gome dev books that I downloaded. So I downloaded MySql which is a free database utility. I am fluent with Microsoft Access so I have quickly picked up on the whys and wherefores of Mysql. This is great so the next step in one of the tuts is to download a Win32 'plugin' for mysql. I do this and in the process read where it is not supported by Visual C++ version 6 because version 6 apparently sucks. But if I want I can downlo…

Hello you all, I may be jumping the gun once again after a few years of rest from AM but still.... A friend of mine asked me to join him to create a 3D Space simulator game and since he has no 3D animation or modeling skills at all, that's where i jump in. So I was wondering that if any of guys have any experience creating models for games, in this case spaceships, and exporting them to formats that my friend could use. I remember from years back that there was a DirectX export tool for AM(AMtex or something like that if remember right), anyone used it? Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated also if anyone is interested in taking part of the project, I …

I have this really cheap program called "The Games Factory" that can be used to make simple sprite-based games. But it is pretty limited. What I am interested in is making a Diablo/Balder's Gate kind of world--the top down perspective running around killing monsters, getting treasure. Not very original, but I like that style of game and I would like to have one that is like that but with MY artwork. What are some options for me to pursue? Is there a program that would let me make a Balders Gate clone out of the box? Should I pursue a MOD, like the Dungeoun Seige editor? Would that let me replace game elements with my own versions? Are there any game mod too…

I'm the author of a perl SDK. The next step in its evolution is output to game data. I have long ago taken the view that the geometry is the central database of large virtual environments. After basic rendering the main task is for direct connection from a high level description of an environment within a geometry tool. Ours is Animation Master. A problem has arisen within the online communitites that they lack this geometry tool, usually called middleware. They can code the fastest texture and triangle strips procedures yet they cannot demostrate nor scale their basic code. Anyway my anticipated route to the PS2 engine is to directly …

Just thought I'd share the info, but for all you artists using AM to make games, I found a really nice texture site, that has a great selection of textures in powers of 2 which is perfect for game engines. http://www.tiledtextures.com/ the have a cheap yearly or quarterly subscription, and they add textures all the time. They have even made me custom textures at my request at no charge once i became a member. Definately worth checking into, if your serious about developing realtime content.

I am a full time developer of a game that is using Animation Master for models, & actions exported to Direct X format via the AMTex Tool By Obsidian. I am one of three so far. (We all work for free) We have a Programmer, and a n00by apprentice whom I am teaching the ropes to. Our game is a MMORPG that uses a true virtual economy. If WoW gets an A+, we are aiming for a B- in game art and content. We are building the Demo right now, and do not need beta testers as of yet. We expect our demo to sell us up to the big boys when we are ready to push the ball over the hill and run to catch up behind it.

I find that Gamestudio feels like a more reachable product. Lots of open forum threads, tools and documents about it. I also feel that Torque is a bit more hardcore and hard to learn, but that's only a guess since there's no working demo. I'm sure some people here have explored both engines to a certain extend, so, what about sharing what you find about these engines? like, what do you think are the advantages or lacks of each one? Thanks.

Hi Folks, I am hoping some of you can help me with something I would like to do... I would like to know how hard it would be to take my AM projects and put them into a format where the scenes can be viewed but also controlled by the user. I guess it would be similar to viewing with something like Arctic pigs. I would like to have the option of controlling the speed of the animation, play, stop, rewind, fast forward...etc. But also, I would like to be able to Zoom and Rotate and pan into any part of the scene. Perhaps even have some preset camera views like top, side, front, back..etc. I have tried doing some of this with the HAMR viewer, but it is l…

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have created a plugin for Godot game engine that will import am Models directly. It will import them as a polygon model off course, one polygon per patch(at least for now). It will import the first decal with uvs and the texture. It will also import actions/animations. The details of what it can import fully or partially is in my github repository page. https://github.com/rasikrodri/Godot-Plugin---Hash-Animation-Master-Model-Importer-As-Scene Try it out an let me know how it works. To install it you download the zip file I have attached or from the github repository, open godot, g…

The thing that is supposed to be the biggest improvement of AM 2005 is hair. From what I hear, it is a lot easier to create realistic or interesting looking hair. This sounds very interesting to me. I want to give my characters very weird hairdos, from Lazuli's hip length black and peacock blue hair, to Dreamer's explosion of beads and braids. But will it transfer to a game engine with the Obsidian exporter?

Kay here's the low down, I'm creating a game and I am inviting others(you people) to help with it. The game theme is fantasy; dragons, demons, imps, dungeons, golems, elves etc... The battle system if I can get a good enough programmer will be in real time and possibly 3D. For now though it will be a sprite based game. It will be first person, will be dialogue trees and fighting. I am going to go with heavy storyline backed up by good graphics. The sprites are of course going to be made using A:M, I am currently looking for programmers and of course animators/ modelers. I also looking for people who can do 2D art. I'm sorry to say the…

I'm working on making a Diablo/BaldersGate type RPG using Multimedia Fusion and A:M. This is just a test level with a sample character moving around the game map. The map is borrowed from "Planescape:Torment", just to try out my ideas for collisions, movement, and having objects eclipse the avatars as they move behind them (trees,rooftops,etc.). It you would try running the .exe and let me know if it works OK. right now movement is all I'm testing. There should be a sound effect accompanying the movement, and the mouse pointer should be replaced with a sword icon. the playfield should scroll behind the character. To end the application click the "X" in the upper right…

Should I even mention that usually to get to actually driving I have to endure much more than that? I am happy, hurrah. Now, what century is this? Whos making these games? Hey all, working on landscaping, possibly to be incorporated into an interactive format, flyby0.mov My question is, in order to be viable in such a format, what size have people experimented with? Do you create interactive/game landscapes in one big piece (which seems incredibly unwieldy after a while) or do you go from individual landscape to individual landscape (through the game engine? Still learning. Anyway, right now I'm still working on the first piece of landscape (about 5000cmx5000cm) and am looking for ideas on where to go. Thanks, RIch
