GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Is it possible to animate a decal? Lets say I have a character who has a smiley face decal attatched to him for the first 12 frames but changes his expression, via decal, on the 13th frame. Better yet, can you decal movie files? Thanks for the help, Masna

Hello! There is any way to recover registration info of AM serial number in the hash site? I bought AM several years ago and would like to upgrade to the latest version. I have boxes of storage cd's and still haven't found the old master cd. thank you! Benjamin Pastrana

hello again... why does my deflector material deactivate other materials on the group? i have a group, the body of my character, it has a skin-material on it... then i created a group for the deflector material, containing large parts of cps of my body group... when i drag the deflectormaterial on my deflectorgroup this part turns white, its no longer skin-colored.... please help, it´s drivin me nuts....

Hello - I have a decal on an object (tooth) the tooth has a gradient decal image I created applied to it. I created a pose slider that I want to be able to have at 0 with the decal percentage set at 0 and then at 100 have the decal percentage at 100. So it would fade the decal in and out when moving back and forth. What it is doing is making the whole tooth transparent when you slide it to 0 - but it is the "decal" image that I am appying the percentage to - does anyone know what I am doing wrong and what it doing it to the whole tooth and not just the decal? hey guys, i am brand new to everything, it's been helpful to me to read your back and forth. I've been looking for something really basic to start with. i actually bought the Hash CD at comicon a few years ago, but was too busy with work to attempt to learn it. can anyone tell me the major advantages to the current version versus 2005 (v.12)? i figure i could use what i have to learn the basics(it sure seems powerful enough to me) and then upgrade when i hopefully know what i'm doing. thanks!

OK quick question. i am trying to use the streak emitter to place an effect like a rocket taking off . but for some reason the streaks jump up then fall down instead of just blasting down. i know this should be simple but i cant get it to blast the other way

I am working on this tutorial and one thing I notice is that the mouth doesn't close after talking (during the pauses of the sentence). I notice on a lot of the examples that it does close. Can some one please share the "secret" with me (I promise I can keep it ) on how to make the mouth close? It looks much more natural when his mouth closes when he is not talking. Thank you.

I just got AM2004 off of ebay and Im trying to get myself familiar with it. But I think I got a pirated version as it did not come with anything but the cd. I will be purchasing a new copy from hash when I get the money. But since I have the program I figured Ill try and learn what I can til I have the cash. I have been trying to do a basic fly through some 3D text and it is really wiggin me out. Are there any tutorial for this? Or should I just start with all the has tutorials and I should be able to figure it out? Any help would be greatly appreciated Blah

Well dear forum, Thanks for all the positive input. Things were moving along smoothly until today when a new issue cropped up. Clicking on the arrow plus tool to begin drawing the eyebrows in the model window, I've come across some problem with the inability to create positioning of control points. When I click on a blink space to create the first point and so forth, the point, I guess the control point appears but now where I'm clicking so I have no control over it. Finally, when the "S" curve is finalized and I've clicked on the 'escape' tab to finalize the line, I can't selective individual control points even when hold down the shift key. I hope I'm clear in…

im using the shaggy rig on a model i made. in both the shaggy model and mine, i can't change or add smart skin to lets say the thigh bone. when i try the bone dissapears and all i see is the right foot target. you can't add smart skin to the target and in smart skin mode the target node is frozen so i can't bend the knee and then adjust the skin. i see on shaggy they did add smart skin to all the leg bones. how did they do it?

In past models I have seen in a model's User Properties various Folders that contain Pose Sliders. Such as: Face. Or Hands, or Rig etc. How do I do that, and how do I put various Pose sliders into it's respective folder?

I'm kind of a new user to Animation:Master. I recently started working on the software after quite a while and it wont let me animate. For example I cant do keyframes or anything. I'll put my character in position and then move the time bar to 10 frames and then move the character again but when I go to 0 it is just the previous pose.

Hi - I created a character and dropped him into a choreography scene - it added a large bone that is making it hard to work with because it is so large. Here is a pic Is there a way to hide this bone and why did it add the bone in the first place when I put him in the scene? Thanks - Eric

Hello! My current project has a number of separate "neon" lights that I would like to flash on and off. Each light will be on a similar on/off cycle, but they will not be flashing at the same time. I thought that creating an action that toggles the Ambient Intensity on and off would be a good idea, but I don't know if I can put this into an action that would then be able to be placed on different lights. Is there a way to achieve this effect? Any help would be appreciated. Tim

I'm in the midst of upgrading from AM:99 to AM2007 and have a question. I can't seem to get one camera to see another camera's front projection. Is that by design? I want to project an image on a sphere with one camera and record it with another. I know it sounds a little strange, but I'm doing this to composite a few different live shots together in 3D. I've just run into a problem when I saved a model file, opened it in a project and animated it. I need to show the project file to somebody and if I just send the .prj file then the model will be lost. As much as I could just also send them the model file, is there a way I can convert the hard disk file for it into a regular model/rigged and animated? I can copy/paste the modeled object into a new model window and that will only take care of the modeling. It wouldn't be rigged or animated. Hope this makes any sense.

I have been trying to render an AVI in A:M that I can use in a Pinnacle movie I'm creating. According to Pinnacle, I need to have the following settings on the AVI: Quality: DV TV Cropping: Yes NTSC: 720x480 Audio: 44 kHz 16-bit Stereo So far I've made several attempts to render AVIs but once I insert them into the Pinnacle movie and burn it to DVD they only appear as a green screen on playback. I've adjusted the frame size on my animation to 720x480, but this still hasn't corrected the issue.

OK so i was trying to animate the knight to step up these blocks that i put in, i was having a little trouble with moving the bones then on frame 25, shown below, the arm flew out of place and was messed up, also it was saying rotate instead of like moving. can you see how the arm went out of place?

Suddenly, when I do "final" renders, the shot I was setting up looks completely wrong. Namely, this character looks either toon rendered or over-exposed, and I can't find what's been changed in the surface info. Does this effect look familiar to anyone?

After a torturous 20 months of where I couldn't get A:M to run on my clunky old computer, I now have a new machine so it's working again... but crashing a lot, even with my old models. The main problem is I have an antiquish A:M2000 v. 8.5, and the new machine runs under Windows XP. I intend to step into the 21st century with an upgrade to the newest version of A:M early next month, so I am getting excited (a gross understatement) about soon being able to start modeling and animating again. this training series is suppose to be Quicktime Movies, but really isn't. I have training videos from other vendors and they don't act at all like this. everything should be on the CD, don't see the reason to bother with the website (open index.html in your browser??). why bother with a CD? also, the window is difficult to re-size once launched. disappointed that I can't view these. can Hash revamp all training into a format may user friendly? (like DVD's other than for PC only). just looking for tutorials that can be viewed on other than a PC. thanks.

So I find myself having fun with particles. I really like the explosion that comes with A:M, and I need it for a project. My only problem is that I need it to be eg 10 times bigger. How do I do that? I've tried to scale the material itself but it didn't help. Any tips?

Ok so ive ran TSM2 plugin, and got a skeleton, inserted it into my character, and everything works just fine, except when i placed the bones in the hand i had 3 control bones, then when i run the Rigger plugin, now i only have 1 bone per finger, and i cant open and close the hands naturally. So is this an option i missed in my skeleton setup? Do i have to re-rig from scratch or can this be fixed?
