DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi All, New-user here with a first-time post. I'm having a problem with rendering in AM. It used to work fine, but then I lost some of the presets (I only have multipass, sterophonic, and real time left). Then it started locking up the whole program with a blank window when I hit render. Now, it renders in under a second and without the same quality despite being set on "final". Is there a way to reset the render presets, or do I need to reinstall the whole program. Or, any other ideas? Thanks, Pete

I cannot figure out how to render my projects to where they run smoothly. They play as if they are a ticking clock. Stop,go,stop,go,stop,go. This even happens after the file has been completely loaded and played several times. How do I stop this?

I haven't found this question so I thought I'd ask it. It may be silly. Can you have faster rendering time if you have a better graphics card or ram?

Okay, I noticed that when you go to render the animation, you can choose from different resolutions... I wanted a kind of 'list' I guess from worst (as in, lowest quality) to best (as in, highest quality) resolutions. If there is one already here, could someone please give me a link? If it's not already here, could someone write it down? I'd appreciate it.

Is there a way to render a model performing an action in a choreography so that the model and it's shadow are all that render with alpha channel = ON in the rendering options? Basically, I want to render a scene to targas with alpha channels with only the model and it's shadow appearing in each frame.

When a scene renders [and I'm thinking about multi-frame animations] does the program have to calculate every CP in the model for every frame, or just what the camera sees?

I have a scene that I am trying to render. I have the background property of the camera set to the desired color. When I render the view through the view port using Render Mode (Q), the background color renders in. When I do a Render to File, the background fails to render and all I get is a black background color. Any idea what is going on? Thanks.

I email this to HASH Tech support....they told me to post it here. I saw an example someone did where the whole scene was rendered to white. All the parts, walls, floor...etc. I didn't know if that was something done in the render mode, or was each piece textured to white. Thanks!

Hi, I,ve just produced my first animation, and it looks great. However, i would like to render to an AVI or TGA sequence to be able to mix in a video stream input. I found that the rendering procces render the animation with the Choreography background, i I don't know how to get rid off the background Another question is that if I want to render to an AVI file with the Alpha (Key) channels enabled, i would need two AVI files: one with the animation itself, and another whit the "alpha" animation. Is there any way to do that with A.M? Thanks

I read some place, that when you use let`s say 3 instances of AM to render a scene you can put the first instance to render every 1, next every second, third every third frame. Somehow it escapes me, what the great advantage of this procedure would be compared to leting the first render the first 50 frames, the second the next 50 and the third the last fifty. Is there any advantage and if what is it?

Greetings all, Well I have a new situation and not sure how to fix it (if it can be) without having to start all over again. I had modeled 1/2 of my ladies dress and then was going to COPY/FLIP/ATTACH but (not paying attention of course) I hit SNAP TO MIRRORED POINTS which at some point later looked right. So now my main seem down the middle won't move, when I HIDE her to just see the dress you see what i get. Close the model and reopen I get this Repair message and haven't got a clue. Any ideas folks????

I set up a character (Eddie) to look like he is swimming under water by kicking his feet. I have three frames setup so that his feet look like they would be constantly moving. Eddie lives in a workd that is about 12 seconds long. The three keys I made for his feet kicking is about 24 frames long. Any suggestions to sorta "copy and Paste" the 3 keyframes to the animation line for the full 12 seconds? I'm only on TAOA:M lesson 6 and don't remember coming across this. Thanks all. SMC

Hello - it's been a few weeks, been working on another tooth animation - hope everyone is doing good. Have a small issue I have a model in a chor and had to make some changes to it, but wasn't sure if the changes were going to work - so I renamed it so I wouldn't effect the original if it didn't come out right. The original is in the chor as "impression2" - the one I want to use is called "impressionFinal". Is it possible to point it to that, so I don't have to go in and redue that portion of the chor? Thanks - Eric

my mom is an artist (on paper no 3D for her), and i can draw a little, but i'm not remarkable. my question is - are any of you who use this program are remarkable artists? can you sculpt things out of clay and draw realistically? my mom thinks i should use modeling clay to sculpt a face before i model one in A:M. did any of you do anything like that? i don't want to model photo real looking people, but people that are slightly realistic (anime-ish) i'll give you a picture of this doll; just slightly realistic like her.

Ok...long story short, I had a "fraud identity theft" happen to me last week. Not fun. So, I was told that maybe my CPU has a "rootkit" which reads you credit card orders, etc and send them off. So, I'm wanting to reset / format my computer and reload everything (fun huh?). However, if I do that, I lose the license key for AM15 right? How do I go about doing this so I don't have to repurchase this?? I've written the "shop online support" and never heard anything back. Anyone know what to do?? Thanks.

I was trying to resize a model (the Jason model on the Extra's CD). I wanted to have everything move proportionately (bones, vertices, etc). I was able to select the model bone in the PWS, select the whole model, and scale while holding down the ctrl key. All the bones and vertices sized accordingly - great. However, the bones no longer kept their control pts - not so great... Anyone know how to resize and keep the bones control pts? Arthur

I downloaded the bevelled prims off Yve's site since for some of the work on my buoy I figured it would be simpler to take an existing primitive and work it over to get the structural members of the buoy that I need. I tried scaling the cube primitive to get a long, thin bar but I ended up with something that looks more like a dog bone. I don't think the bevels were reacting well to scaling. Is this something I would probably be better off modeling from scratch?

Hello. I am a previous short time user who got derailed by life 5 years ago and am just finding my way back. I have the CD of v13 and have reloaded it on my computer. It is working fine but I have a couple of Q's: 1) Where can I find info regarding resolution; is AM capable of TV/DVD broadcast quality? 2) Where can I learn about the new features in v17, and what about additional plugins that would work in v13? 3) What, in your estimation, is some good yet not terribly expensive video editing software I can buy to assist in this process? I have looked around a little and have yet to find any real answers to these questions. Whenever I ha…

I've no idea whats it called, nor had much luck finding it. Best thing I can do is describe what I'm looking for. A while back, when I was digging through toe forums killing time, I ran in to a tutorial (believe a video), where a very fine spline mesh of the lower torso and legs got scaled down to tightly fit around the legs and keep a set distance. Pretty sure it's mostly used to make cloth pieces fit correctly and keep the required distance for so it can be animated. I'm unable to find it, nor do I have an idea whats it's called. All I know I've need for it now I hope some one understand what I'm talking about and can point me in the right direction …

Hi folks! It's been a while. I own version 10 of A:M and I bought it back around the time it came out. It was when I was just starting to get into animation, and I didn't really understand anything I was doing. I still don't understand much that I'm doing, but the difference is I understand that I don't understand it. A while after getting into A:M I tried a bunch of other programs. Around last August I switched to Maya and have been using it since. I've drifted from doing modeling (which drives me insane) to effects work (which is pretty cool), but the reason I originally got into this field was to do character animation. I'm starting to return to that now. …

Hi - I am having a rigging issue again, I rigged the character using the 2001 skeleton from the library. I would use the new squetch rig, but haven't had enough time to play w/ it to be comfortable - and I need to get this project done. Anyway when I pull the model into an action if you look at the legs they are off center. If anyone knows what I have done wrong, or haven't done with the rigging please let me know. Thanks - Eric

Hi folks, looking for some opinions on rigging... I'm reaching the point where I'm needing to rig my character. It's a little daunting. Okay, it's a LOT daunting. :-) I don't really know what all my options are, but from what I've been able to see there's: the 2001 rig, the Squetch rig or create a custom one. I'm on a Mac and running Tiger, so The Setup Machine isn't an option for me. I've been messing with the 2001 rig (after doing the boneless thom tute) and it goes okay until I start getting to parts that deviate too much from the default rig or go past the tutorial (like finger bones). Not understanding how all of the various hidden bones work, I'm…

Hi all After using AM for modeling for over two years I'm embarrased to say this is my first attempt at actual rigging. Since I've primarily been using AM for background shots for a comic strip. This has been working great except that I hadn't been able to certain focal shots because the walls kept getting in the way. I finally decided to try and solve this problem by rigging the set so i could swing the walls out of the way of the camera whenever the need arose. (see attachment) It mostly worked except at that the walls appear to be attached to the floor and distort it every time I move them. Other than making the floor a separate model, is there an…

Hello All- If you view the attached picture you will see that the goal is to create a rigging whereby a Pose Slider can cause a larger tube to cover up a slender hose over time. I tried rigging the larger tube with a simple parent child boning situation however, because of the curve in the line, when the first parent bone is scaled down, it causes all of the children to collapse vertically and so the larger tube does not adhere to the curve of the slender hose. I thought of constraining to a path but was hoping that it could all be done with a simple Pose slider. Any suggestions are appreciated!! Thanks! Tom
