DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I've been working on a movie and decided it was time to animate the scenes. Unfortunately, I can't continue unless I know some kind of software that gives me high-quality scene combiners. Whenever I use Windows Movie Maker for combining scenes, the quality is really bad and I don't want it that way. I was hoping for a software that could allow me to finalize my movies in quicktime. I have one scene from the movie that I'm currently working on. untitleddo.mov Do you know any software that can produce the same quality and be in quicktime?

Wanted to say hi. So um... Hi. Also, I was thinking of picking up AM. It really is very impressive. I had just a question. I'm running a 1.6g antholon with 1g ram, with a geforce fx 5200. does that stack up as a decent machine to run AM, or should I look to upgrade? I understand the Minimum requirments for the system that are listed in the program info, but I was just curious what those of you who use it regularly would suggest is an ideal pc config.

In any endeavor we seek feedback. We look at things from a variety of angles. We poke and prod at ideas. We test new theories. We plan for success. We hope for feedback. And when we get no feedback... that's feedback! Discovery is at the heart of the learning process. Feedback helps us discover what works. As an artist, animator or storyteller recognize how feedback is essential to success. Look for opportities to provide feedback and encourage others in their endeavors. You'll be glad you did. Hello! I'd like some advice on how to achieve these two lighting effects: 1) I'd like to create an effect that projects light as if it's being passed through a "bar" filter (or like the bars of a window). Example below, with the "light bars" across the subjects' eyes. PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINKS TO SEE THE IMAGES: 2) I'd like an effect of light showing though clouds or fog, so that you can see the rays. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! T

I saw that this has been addressed a few times in forums, but I never found an actual answer! I have finished the modeling part (not texturing/surfacing, and there is no decaling) of a computer. At some point during me setting up my test renders, the splines started showing on the surface at all times, even in the final renders. "Render as lines" is set to off, I'm using final-quality render settings (no shaded/wireframe), and all the obvious stuff I can think of checks out. I just pushed the wrong button somewhere. How do I make this stop?!? Here is the pic, and in case it'll help, I'm also attaching the project file. Thanks! commodore.prj.zip

I've followed the tutorial online for adding the skeleton to boneless thom. All control points assigned, but I've got two issues. 1. Using the IK Arm Setup to ON to set the hand targets, I get the right arm in the bent position 2. When using the resolute walk action, the legs are turned inside out. Any help appreciated.

Dear Animation Masters, When outputting .mov file with sound, I am unable to hear the sound playback on hard drives or as streaming video off the web. However, if I output a .wmv there is no problem hearing the sound. In addition, many websites open with a big block with a q with a question mark in it. I have removed flash from the list in QT pro, so I thought that would solve the problem. Any tips? Thanks, Michael Angelo http://www.michaelangeloart.com

Hello, I'm coming back to Animation Master after a lapse of ten years. The version I have is 5, from 1996. What I want to do is to take a word and make it 3d, and then wrap it into a truncated cone, as shown in the attachment, which I've built by hand in CorelDRAW. Then I would want to apply texture and a bump map, so the letters look like they were carved from granite. If someone could give me a very broad rough idea of the steps that would be necessary it would be a big incentive to get back into this by updating to AM2007. I've looked at interface screenshots, and I can't see how you even bring type into the program, so I'm a little commitment shy here! :-) …

G'day fellow AM users, hope we're all well... Just a quick question from a new animating loving brother down under. I've done all the tutorials with some success and a whole lotta fun! But now I am trying out a short animation of my own and have run into a strange thing that I am wondering how to get around. In choreography I have dropped in "kid" and "Resolute Walk" onto a path, changing the Ease to allow him to walk down the path for a few seconds. I play back and all is well. Now, here's where I need some advice guys and girls of AM. I now at 6 frames latter wish to alter "kid"'s foot so he appears to finish the walk at a standstill. I go into the nulls …

Is there a guide to all constraints? I pick up an object with a kinematic/orient like/compensate combo ( hand and forearm so the forearm follows the hand) then later I want to attach the hands to something.... Well the 2nd time I use a Kinematic on the same bone, it totally ignores it ( the 2nd one) even if the 1st is set to 0% enforcement. Also the 1st is set to a different bone than the 2nd, the 1st doesn't use compensate and I need compensate for the 2nd action. How do I get the 2nd Constraint to work, or what am I supposed to use instead of Kinematic? Kinematic works if I delete the 1st one. Imagine someone doing a pushup then lifting a barbell. T…

Hey there, I'm having a bit of trouble getting a sound "boing.wav" (from A:M Yeti CD Sound Library in cartoon folder) to play while scrubbing &/or pressing the play button. I have dragged and dropped into sound folder then dragged and dropped into a characters' choreography action folder in the choreography folder; mute is off, volume is 100% the sound starts a few seconds into the animation project but no sound......so......what could be wrong? An interesting thing though, in the tools>options>sounds, this setting does not see the sound and says 'No sound object loaded', Iwould have thought the "boing.wav" from the library would change that and allow…

Special animation tool "Paste Mirrored": I copied keyframes then paste mirrored at all the appropriate frames, then, at the end, I pasted the first keyframe. Problem is, there are no frames past 00:00:15, but the end frame should be 00:01:10. I got his little eyes bouncing around, his ears wiggling and his tail moving in such a way that'll drive all the little girl rabbits nuts, but I think I'm being shortchanged on my frames; I should have more. But then, that's what she said.

Well dear forum, Thanks for all the positive input. Things were moving along smoothly until today when a new issue cropped up. Clicking on the arrow plus tool to begin drawing the eyebrows in the model window, I've come across some problem with the inability to create positioning of control points. When I click on a blink space to create the first point and so forth, the point, I guess the control point appears but now where I'm clicking so I have no control over it. Finally, when the "S" curve is finalized and I've clicked on the 'escape' tab to finalize the line, I can't selective individual control points even when hold down the shift key. I hope I'm clear in…

I have a little problem with the way i make things in A:M particularly around the face and head. I have trouble getting splines to meet so there don't appear to be "creases" . Like when working progressively from around the eyes to the rest of the face creases will apear an i have a hard time not getting them. it must be i have a bad work flow. Does anyone have any hints or tricks they use to get everything to come together right.

I'm trying to do exercise 5, except I'm customizing the animation some. Since I have many keyframes, I'm looking for a convenient way to quickly mirror a range of time without having to cut/paste-mirror each frame, so I can quickly and easily preview the animation after making minor tweaks to it. Does anybody know how to do this? The closest I've come, is that I've figured out how to copy/paste a range of control-points in the timeline window. Thanks for any help!

I'm working on a choreography, and I made a lot of mistakes moving the model around. Now the character is far away from the model bone, and I need to animate a long straight ahead walk (no walk cycles). I'm finding it difficult to get the character to walk smoothly. I'd like to replace the model with a new instance at the exact same point in the chor. I guess it would be like a stunt double. My current approach is to move the model bone of the original character out of the range of my camera with a hold interpolation, so the original model instantly dissapears, and replace it with the new model at the same location in the same pose with a hold interpolation. I'm…

Hello all, I am not sure if I am messing up the applicatoin of my "toon" material or if it is an issue with AM 2005 (Version 12.0w). When a 5 point patch falls along an edge during a render, the toon line color is wrong. This picture shows the under arm area of my model. Notice how the area under the arm has a hazy orange outline. This material should render as a cyanish-blue with a black outline. Does anyone have any tips? Do I need to do something special when applying a material to a 5 point patch? Thanks.

Hi - I set up several poses for a character to practice pose sliders. I have a bend left, right, forward and back- which I all have set to "0" on the pose sliders. I started a new action and it puts the character in the screen, but has him bent forward, which is one of the pose sliders, but is shouldn't be doing that. Anyone know what I did wrong? Thanks - Eric

I rendered out a shaded wireframe AVI of my chroegraphy - a landspeeder driving round a crater. Everything looked OK so I set it to work on a final, multipass version as a series of TGAs (for the alpha - the crater is "live action") and went to bed. Just before the halfway mark, for three frames, there is a big jitter in the placement of the vehicle and its transparency. I think that it's something to do with the rotation around Y passing the 360 degree mark, and over the four passes it's coming out as a different position. I don't know why it should flash about the frame so wildly, though. There are no keyframes at that point. I've attached a render of four sec…

A couple of prelim questions for a project I'm going to be fooling around with involving a tv showing images. I understand how to apply a video/image sequence as a decal, so that's not my question. I'm looking for a very refractive screen, more refractive than realistic, so the "projection" distorts as the screen rotates. Do I want to: --make a screen with transparent/refractive materials and place it in front of a flat patch with the video decal? --make a screen and apply the decal to the "back" of the screen? Also, how is refraction calculated? Would I want just a one-sided (2-dimensional), one-patch screen (well, it'd be a couple of patches to accommod…

But the toturial didn't say how to access this gradient menu, and all I got from the Forums is just that. That gradient is some sort of a skin or colour thing I need to apply on my model? Hi I was wondering what are the lip sync tools like in Am? What sort of documentation does Am come with? What sort of technical support can I expect from am company, if i bought am. Does am have a paint program simular to that of bodypaint? What feature films does anyone know of that have been developed from am. How easy is it to learn the moddeling tools? What other software is compatible with am?, In your own words how does am compare with major packages like cinema 4d?, or lightwave? If you can answer any of these questions I would be very grateful.
