Hi all, Just forked out a small fortune (for me) on some digitial sound recording gear. (Zoom H4n and Rode M3 mike) I had planned on just using my iTouch to digitally record dialogue (seemed OK in my tests) but wouldn't be much chop for Foley/SFX. Manufacturer MRP/RRP seemed rather exhorbidant. They wanted to charge $900 for the Recorder and $250 for the mike. Well, as luck would have it, one is not expected to pay MRP/RRP for these items in the music industry and I left the store having paid less than half price - made me feel better anyway Well, tests show that it's like chalk and cheese when comparing the above to my iTouch. Now I just have to lear…

Ive been searching for a free music maker, and all the ones i find seem to be editors where you just import a file then add effects. Im looking for something similar to GarageBand that works with windows. When i say similar, i mean with the ready made beats etc and just drag and drop. I've tried ejay, and its not quite what im looking for. Any help would be greatly appretiated. Oh, by the way, i have checked previous posts on these forums, and still havent found what im looking for. Thanks Edit -- I dont mind if the music maker isn't free, just let me know the price

I have visited computer music composition forums and have downloaded trials of flstudio, Acid, PG Music PowerTracks, and others. I have a midi keyboard and would like to get fairly realistic sounding banjo's, fiddle, guitar, harp, etc and would also like good and ambient techno synthesizers. I like flstudio because its easy to assign sound fonts and the synthesizer plugins make some nice sounds. I also want to record live instruments like a violin and mix it with the computer generated music but flstudio doesn't seem to do this too well. I would like the tool to be flexible enough to allow me to be creative and experiment while composing. Anyone care to share t…

My wife is trying to compile family audio recordings from her relatives. I need to be able to explain to various not-very-computer savvy people how to record audio on their pc's. I've bookmarked this page for the basic info, but do pc's have built-in mic's or do I recommend external mic's? USB or "regular"? I'm open to advice but it needs to be low-level.

I have been puzzling a bit with a metronoom, to see if it could help me adding some sense to my dance acts. For some reason I can get them only randomly catch a rythm. So after making a metonoom I caught up with another effect. A metronoom has a division of 60 beats per minute. So it is easy to find an animation pose that fits for 1 beat at 30 frames in a second. With 120 beats p/min it would become 2 beats at 30 frames in a second. Then it begins. 88 beats per minute should be possible at 4 beats p/sec, but I can't divide 30 frame in 4. It would become 7.25 frame and that's only possible when I start shortening the act movements. Or I could change the wav length of one …

I've been trying to combine some short videos to a DVD. My problem is that the files are a different volumes (all MPG) and I wish to make them all the same. I'm sure there must be a way to separate the audio from the video, increase the audio amplitude, and recombine them. I'm sure there must be, but I have not a clue. Anybody have a hint? Thanks, Myron

Obviously there are a ton of sounds needed in finish animations. Anything from a creaking door to an explosion to a window opening. Almost everything has sound and looking for wavs or even worse free wavs is a pain. What does everyone use to create sounds from scratch? Not compose as im aware of very slick composition software, just effects like mentioned above. P.S i did a search but I dont think mine is working right.

Hello! This one is an old issue about I have never asked before but always have "worried" to me, here I go: 1.- As you can see in the picture, in a propertly like Volume (in example), if I click over the value, a number box appears waiting for a figure be entered and a little arrow at left appears too. 2.- Then I press that arrow inside the little square and now I can choose between three options: The "Arrow" (for Use cache or other action's value (¿...?)) A "Padlock" (for Constant value). And a "Watch" (for Time-based value). 3.- I choose the "Time-based value" one (the Watch) cause with this I expect/suppose it'll become in an animatable value propertly,…

I got Adobe Soundbooth with the CS3 suite and I've been learning some about it with online tutorials and help files. Apparently the one thing it can't do is handle multiple tracks. Has anyone here had any experience with it? Am I correct about no multiple tracks or am I overlooking something?

However, I wanted to try and apply that learning to other models and I am not sure what my next step is. I can only find one sound file (secret) to use and I can't seem to find a tutorial on making up my own. Can anyone help me?!?!?!? Thanks Robbin

I'm working on an animated feature, where the work in being done overseas. (russia) dialog is recorded and edited here in the US and sent to the animator for lip sync. right now we're viewing the animation in avi files. the final renders will be Tiff files, which will be imported to premier or final cut and converted to 29.97 ntsc. SO how do i RE SYNC the audio to the newly assembled animation? The only thing I can think of is to have the russian team create a blank frame up front with a corresponding beep on the sound track file.

I'm trying to convert some of my old cassette tapes/LPs into my hard drive for future animation projects. I googled and stumbled on this http://www.dak.com/Reviews/2020Story.cfm The price is within my reach, but before I invest I wanted to know if anybody uses this product. If not, what product do you use? How much? How do you rate it? Thanks for your time.

Here's a very nice article from VideoMaker Magazine on the use of diegetic sound, what exactly it is and where it can be found: http://www.videomaker.com/article/15797-diegetic-sound In short, if your characters can hear it, it is considered a diegetic sound. Here are a few quick highlights from the article: (Edited considerably from the original text by VideoMaker Contributing Editor Hal Robertson)

When I import an MP3 file it does show up in the PWS but with the message "MP3 File not fully supported yet" Is there any form of MP3 that is supported? I was trying it because I figured I could drastically reduce the size of a HA:MR file if it had MP3 sound instead of WAV.

Hi, guys I've been playing around with wav files for my animations and I'm wondering...is it possible to: 1) record a new voice onto an existing wav file so that 2 voices speak at the same time? (the original Wav only has 1 voice) or 2) achieve this effect in any other way? The wav editor I use is VoiceOn. Any help (or just a "no,you can't do that") would be appreciated. Thanks Adam

I am working on my Aniamtions. Well learning Animating might be more accurate and I have next to zero experience with sound. I know of daily wave for getting wave files from movies but is there other sites that we can list on this Forum? I also would like to learn how to create some sounds for Animations if possible. Are there any public domain software for creating/making special affect sounds?

Here for no particular reason is a compilation of the Cartoon sounds from an old A:M CD. If there is interest I can also post the Animal and Environmental sets. When I first listened to these sounds all smashed together I thought it'd make a great community project, where everyone grabbed the soundbite of their choice and put appropriate animation with it. Then I realized just how much work that would be... cartoon_mixdown.wav
