Hey guys, I just remembered a couple of animations I did for a fishing web site. They needed a really quick talking Stryper and an animated example of how too hook up a spedial rig using anchovies.... hmmmm. http://www.powellstripers.com/default.cfm It took about 3 days to do both anims. The lip synch could have been more robust, but for online content I guess it's OK. Comments welcome. Cheers. MU PS. I also did a talking flash card for this site somewhere.... I believe you have to click on the "maps" button and look for "Chip Powell".

Just over a year (!) since posting an animatic here, I'm finally close to finished with this short featuring a lonely cricket. I'm hoping to have a final hi-res version ready to submit to Hash for SIGGRAPH, which means it needs to be done Real Soon. Comments and crits of all types would be most appreciated! http://www.digins.com/jack/cricket.mpg (7MB MPEG-1) (fixed link, thanks David!)

Hi everyone I know in the modeling window scaling the model will effect the hair, but in the choreography scaling the model, if I recall, didn't effect the hair. This is a pic of the model at normal scale.

The subject for this Wednesday's Animation Showdown was "CHOP! Animate your character chopping down a tree or door or anything else that needs to be chopped to pieces!" Here's what I came up with in 3-4 hours of work. (I since re-lit and re-rendered, but the animation is identical.) Comments welcome! The movie is Sorenson 3, 4 seconds long and 423K. Zach Chop2.mov

I made a Flash presentation for the author of a book I've been helping to illustrate that showcases all the models I made for the reconstruction of the East Pediment of the Parthenon. The book is called The Parthenon Code: Mankind's History in Marble. These models are textured and in color! This was alot of work but well worth it http://www.holmesbryant.com/east_ped/

This is a bit from the revised fight scene for Duck Sauce; my awesome team has been helping me make a new version to send to film festivals. I've been posting stuff to the team occasionally, but I liked the way this one turned out enough to show it to the list. The context is that the rubber chicken and the rubber duck are fighting, as the rubber pigeon saves the pink flamingo from certain death. (And what a context that is!) http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/blog/lowe...ndFight_mp4.mov You can see the original version of the whole film on A:MFilms. Comments welcome!

Just thought that I would post a link to my ball guy outside Dagoos' cool animation thread. I haven't had a chance to fool with Pesto's ball, but it looks pretty cool. I made a few updates for better knee and heel control, but there is no extra controllers for you to worry about. www.chrisolsen.org/ballman.zip I think having a little competition using simple models like this would be a good idea for a future hash animtion contest.

I've updated my site with my last three misfires from digitalrendering.com's Animation Showdown, the four-hour animation race: Who's at the Door? I never quite got the rhythm of this one right. Doing more leading with the hips might have made it less floaty. Hug. The moderator warned that doing this with two characters would be too hard. Turns out he was right! Crawl. Why he didn't just step over that thing? These versions are re-rendered for better lighting. See them on my Showdown page.

This is a WIP for the next mastering materials volume. Thought people would be interested in seeing a face made of 95% materials. There are only 4 image maps used and 3 are for hair control. The last is for an environment map.

Also need to smooth out the top of the grip. There will be some detail added with bumps later on the very bottom of the grip as well as the trigger guard and flintlock base. Comments please, Wade Edit: Pic got lost somehwere, I have posted new ones below.

I have taken it upon myself, after about a year of learning this program and seeing it through the OS X Beta program, to model a cello. After one unsuccessful try I modeled the body, and I'm almost done with the bridge. That's where the problem is. I'm having some issues with the bridge. There are four five point patches that refuse to be recognized. I select the five points, but the five-point-patch button is grayed out. Their equivalent regions on the flip side are behaving fine. I've gone over the entire model and flipped all the normals facing out. Is this the right thing to do? You can download the entire project from my iDisk and try it yourself: http://homepage.mac…

My first attempt at making a face. I already know of many issues with it, but this is about two hours of effort just to get this. I've learned a lot from this exercise, mostly how splines work and 5 point patches. I'm off to sleep for tonight, tomorrow I'll work on doing a set of shoulders/torso, and maybe another face.

Posted these yesterday but they got bumped so I am reposting today... Some characters we are working on, my friend John Aretekis had A:M for about a year and then sort of gave it up. When I asked what kind of work he had accomplished he said he had modelled some characters, so I asked to see them and they were WONDERFUL! He has this wolf, 3 male fat hiphop piggies and 3 female fat hiphop piggies, all decalled and modelled. So I borrowed them and rigged them and now we are trying to conjure-up a '3 lil pigs/ goldilocks' modern day takeoff. This is a quick animation test with minimal lip poses for tracking to a clip I nabbed off TV... In this re-post I am using…

I've been whittling out a logo these past couple days. It'll be mainly for video production work that I do. I know a flying cardboard box isn't all that glamorous for a company icon, but I liked the idea for some reason. I'm not quite done with the animated version. A:M's giving me a little difficulty with the wings on the box. I'll try to remember to post that when I'm done with it, but for now it's just a picture. Please comment if you wish. Thanks!

I have been asked to speak on presentation design at the upcoming Answers in Genesis Creation College in West Harrison, IN. My talk title will be "Making Your Presentations Zing!" I'll teach graphic design principles, eye candy skills, dos and don'ts of design, and more. I'm going all out on this design and using Apple Keynote to present for its advanced multimedia technologies and awesome transitions. The gears and globe were modeled in Animation:Master. The globe will slowly rotate in the Keynote version. Cover (JPEG)

Just a quick post to let everyone know that a revised, large-screen version of my animation <ESC> is up on AMFilms. This is the one that won the IRTC for October 2003. I cleaned up some of the animation and fixed a bunch of textures. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/Entry.php?entry=786 Interestingly enough, I got an email from a guy who had independently come up with the same concept of an escape key escaping. He was kind enough to say that he had enjoyed my film. Although he's doing it in another application, I thought I'd post his proof of concept render. Zach

The first time I really went to town for an animation in AM- and I mean REALLy went at it- channel editing and everything, I remember a moment when my wife walked past me, took a look at what I was doing and sneered. I mean she really audibly sneered too. You know: "Tsh..." I didn't understand what could have caused her reaction- but she thought that what I was doing looked so *ugly* that she couldn't understand how anything interesting or even amusing could come out of it... So now, sometimes I sit back, load up ALL the channels to a character in a scene and sort of look at them... they really are sort of beautiful to me; hard to believe I'm responsible for a…
