I've been playing with using lattices in distortion mode lately and found it an incredibly easy and fast way to morph one model into another. The really great thing about it is that all of my facial controls still work nearly perfectly on the new, morphed model. The guy on the left is my original head model. And the fellow on the right is his new African buddy. This took me all of about 45 minutes to do. Neat, huh? I love Animation Master!!!

Hi, ya all For the last three weeks I have been putting a ridiculous amount of time into my first short It's called "CLOTHESLINE" It's a romantic comedy about a sex starved desert roaming psycho I have 8 shots done, well almost done I still have to go back and fix intersections and what not (out of 10) and may add a couple more but at this point I am pretty sure I will finish, if I keep making enough coffee It will be about two minutes long, includes three characters and be rendered in version 12 to take advantage of the new composite and cloth features. oh, and its timed to Rush 2112 This is the third shot shot 3

Old Demo Reel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys, so in the process of updating my site and cleaning house in a computer sense of things, I came upon my old demo reel. Old in that I made it back in 2002 when I was interested in working in an animation studio. I probably should have just sent the thing into outerspace, as the results would have been the same. Now that I look back at it, it is no surpise as the reel isn't specifically geared towards one skill set. If I were to remake one today, I'd make it just about character rigging, with a slight emphasis on modelling.....But I thought that the…

Try as I might, I couldn't find a way to convey the scale of the model from one of my image contest entries. I tried several different camera angles, but none of them really said "this thing is freaking huge". Any suggestions? (For reference, here's a streaming QuickTime movie which shows how big it is relative to a human-sized object.)

Hi I ran out of time to get my entry in for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy contest. I'm still going to finish it so I thought I would post a detail from a different camera angle and ask for critiques. It's the only way I am going to get past the likes of Mr. Talbot and Mr. Freeman. I'll save the final view for some other time. I need to tweak the models and the rigging quite a bit more to get rid of some of that creasing and the lighting is currently producing some unsightly patches so I will have to play with that too. Anyway feel free to comment. Cheers

Here is a project I worked on quite a while ago that I have decided to pull off the shelf and remake with my newer technology (faster Mac and Hash for OS X) and a little (not much) more experience. The story line is being revised and I'm going to make an attempt create it as one whole piece. I'm not going for visual superiority here, I just use simple, but nice models, camera tricks (city with only a few buildings filmed from different angles and with layers...), and maybe a lower frame rate. In this presentation everything is done in Hash except for a couple backgrounds and one cut scene, which are done in Bryce. In the new version I'm going to use a combo of Hash and Li…

Hi all, most of the time i use "am" like "mm" (modelling master), but now i want to dive in the great see of animation. I know it will be hard, but i hope do go to it. It took quite awhile to build an character i would like to animate. Now he is nearly finished, waiting to be rigged and i want to show him to you, wondering what you are thinking about this little fellow. Comments of any kind (no God please) are welcome. Greetings Frank

Well, I went as far as I was going to go with this project. I'm supposed to be learning animation not building cars, so I stopped tweaking. I learned a lot by doing it, the next time I do a car I'll do a bunch of things different. I was going to decal a second version to be a kind of formula 1 racing car, I may still do that for fun - with sponsorships on it and the whole deal. Anyway, here is my first rendered still, the car is pretty much complete as I said. This is using one of Yves 25 light skylights with a 16 pass render. I don't think its centered but oh well. Took about an hour to render. I'll do a couple more from different angles and post them whe…

My original post: original bear WIP post Something just did not seem right, so I started working on a simpler "more youthful" design...see below. The animation is about a youthful, playful bear, and the original design just did'nt give me that feeling. My children like this new design better. I want to put hair/fur all over the body, so I want to keep the spline count down, hopefully will make it easier to animate. Having the arms and legs as seperate opjects cause problems with the hair/fur? Looking for some input about the overall proportions, design, etc. I guess I am inspired by Keith Lango's simple character designs. Thanks for the inspiration Keith!…

I have been working feverishly to get an entry into the image contest but due to a failing hard drive will not be able to enter on time, just so everyone doesn't think I was just a gasbag - here is a glimpse of my mechanical entry wannabe main focus. The texture needs to be scaled way down, (I had to re-create it and didn't have it backed up in time) and a few other tweaks, the pose was also lost.... Medium intensity critiques are ok, I'm sensitive so don't bash me too bad - I am not fishing for praise, this image is not worthy of any-

I just completed a job to produce two one-minute animations about water salinity, osmosis, and fish, for a museum kiosk. I was given the soundtrack, 3ds models of a fresh and saltwater fish, and 10 days to design, model, animate, render (at 1024x768), add close-caption text, and composite the animations. I'm satisfied with the results (the client is thrilled), considering the time limitation (with one person, one computer). I used just about everything in A:M's box of tricks to pull it off. Low-res renders can be seen here (4MB Sor3 QT): http://www.digins.com/jack/s2f_small.mov http://www.digins.com/jack/f2s_small.mov Here is one of the 2D animatics I thr…

Needs mucho work - but I like the way it's progressing. Been playing around with creating a model with hair, and trying to get something that might have reasonable rendering times for animation - - so I've been keeping the density low (lower than I'd really like) - And hoo-Boy have I been struggling with the grooming (yikes what a spaghetti nest of string!), resorted to fakey lighting, shadows, 1 pass, etc... BUT this image at 640 x480 rendered in 37 secs! I could live with that...(I'm really really impatient) Will be working on cleaning up the face (too confusing - image wise) - fixing the bald spots... comments welcome

I've gotten a request for my script to split muscle poses into left and right sub-poses, as suggested by Jason Osipa in his "Stop Staring" book. The script was previously mentioned in these threads: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7595 http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4436 You'll need a Perl interpreter to run this. Basic instructions are attached, let me know if you have any problems. I've tested it with versions 10.5 and 11.1, on a PC. In theory it should work with Mac Perl as well. [i could swear I attached the zip file the first time... anyway, here it is] splitp.zip

I threw this guy together in v12 over the weekend, and am now going through the laborious process of rigging. He's one of the main characters in an as-yet-unnamed project I've been planning for some time now. ...and after the rigging is finished, clothes. I'm going to try and do all of the characters' clothing with v12 SimCloth. Eventually, he'll use Yves' skin shader, but that's not working in v12 right now. I'm not quite as happy with the body; I was going for "gangly, with poor posture and a pot belly", but it ended up looking like a guy's head on a pregnant woman's body. Hopefully he'll look better with clothes on.

UPDATE: See the final version on page 2 of this thread Decided to re-render "Window" with real radiosity instead of the old version's manually-placed lighting. One light, sixteen passes, six hours: The only light leak I wasn't able to address was that bit under the lip of the table . . . I chalk it up to it being geometry that was modeled six years ago. Otherwise, I'm impressed. Working GI in A:M. Ain't that some chit? Thanks to Yves P. for his radiosity primer.

About two years ago I made a TARDIS model, that famous blue box from "Doctor Who". I made a fresh version of the model recently, here's the wireframe: For a while I was aiming for a toon look, but that hasn't panned out: I'd like to be quite daring and go for photorealistic based off the new TARDIS, which is a rough painted wood look, my attempts to make textures/decals: :blink:Oh, and just for kicks...at one point, I lost my mind and made this: Now, I'm asking and begging and humbly throwing myself upon the mercy of wise hasher for your advice as to how to begin.

My Webpage The site sort of explains it all better than I can here. Not expecting reams of critical feedback on it, but if you're gonna be real thoughtful about it, then go ahead. Been working on this monster for over two years (since May of 01)- so 2.5 years. It's your typical one man, one machine (well two and needing a third for the final rendering) sort of thing. And in 2 and half years I FINALLY get to post an image from the actual production. So there's proof that STICKING TO IT WILL GET YOU THERE- oops, not done yet, I spoke too soon! Oh one other thing: My focus for this film isn't (oddly enough) animating. It's more on design, story…

i have lights around my ship, but they don't render for some reason. On the engines there are red lights and on the ship . . . i don't no why they didn't render. But, this is my space ship that i did, tell me what you think update: for some reason the red lights now render, but if you look close at the space ship, their are chain guns mounted on the top and on the glowing engines, the yellow lights that are just bone lights, set with no specularity, do not render.
