I've been stuck with the same probolem for years of A:M kicking me out to desktop once I render a 'complex' scene. I've tried everything that I can think of. I need to really solve this problem and I need a robust solution or versatile workaround. I have no money to upgrade to a newer version, and I don't have money to get the latest bellsand whistles for my computer and I'm limited in time. It probably won't fix my problem in the end. Sorry if this post sound like I'm venting, but I'm really desperate and after years and years spent into making models, the feeling that all my hard work can't be rendered apart from using the render lock (render marquee) using …

As you can see below I am still piecing him together. The coloring is temporary and I am going to try making a bump map so he has the right shell. What I want to use him for, however, requires him to speak. I discussed this with a few people on the IRC chat and they said the best way to do it was to animate his face, then apply it to the model as a decal. Someone also mentioned that it is possible to use pose sliders with the decal so I could apply the decal and still change it. Does anyone know how this is done? This sounds like what I need to use.

Just a 'work in progress' view of the opening scene of an animation I hope I will one day finish and posting updates here may help with the motivation in achieving that goal. Nothing in the picture is finished, much still needs decals, textures, etc and more models need to be created. There will be an old 1930's style truck, more rocks, some grass and the gumtree will have more branches. The main character is currently under construction and when finished I'll upload a pic. The story is of a lonely preteen boy who dreams of rockets and having a friend his age and who lives on an isolated farm in 'outback' Australia with his Red Army veteran Grandpa.

Here's a screen shot of the current project I'm working on. I'm probably at 75%. All models were done by me (the torch is a TWO model I needed for a placeholder )and my buddy Spear has done all the textures on the character. C&C welcome. Updated...New camera angle

Hi I am working on something for fathers Day. I want to make an animation of my dad playing conga drums and singing babaloo if I can finish it in time. My friend jin kazama is making the conga drums. I started the head today. I was just gonna make a simple round head and put glasses and hair on it but my friend jin kazama encouraged me to push it more and I'm glad he did, I am happy with how it's coming. I should be busy learning a software package right now but I wanted to do this. Attached is the head. I will update later.

Hello friends I'm somehow "celebrating" my 1.year anniversary with A:M and 3D (actually its little past a year). And I have put together an demoreel (warning: use of cheesy transitions and music), that shows some of my projects. The continuity in the composition is pretty bad, and I should have rendered some of the models in a better choreography, but I haven't had the time (nor the knowledge ) Let me know what you think Direct link to the demoreel (.mov, 10MB, right click and select: "Save target as...") My Webpage Regards Stian Ervik Wahlvåg

I have been updating my demoreel quite a bunch lately. Added some new stuff and rerendered most of the old stuff (v.13 IBL). I guess I should have continued in the old thread but the old one is a bit outdated, so I hope you guys forgive me starting a new thread The demoreel do have some jagging in both the sound and the motion due to an bug in the editing software. Anyway. Here is an direct link to the demoreel: Approximately 18MB, Lenght: 2:26. Right click and save target as.... -=QuickTime=- -=Windows Media=- Let me know what you think Comments and crits are appreciated Regards Stian

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share my current WIP with you all. I'm almost done with modeling at this point, and I'm about to move on to rigging and texturing. Any input is welcome, and I'll try not to procrastinate too long about updating the thread. Cheers Morgan

Here are the 3 poses I have done for Robcat's courses I am involved in. Just thought I'd toss'em out here to the masses, maybe get a little feedback and see what you guys think. They are just simple poses. Sitting, Leaning against a wall, and standing on one foot. How close or far did I get from the mark of showing "character"?

Ok, so. I'm assuming that somebody knows of the upcoming "space" animation contest. And I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm trying to have the camera zoom out in one part of the animation. Its supposed to start zooming out slowly, and then speed up. but, instead, before it starts to go faster, its zooms in. And I can't figure out why. its mind-boggling . So, if anyone could help, that would be really cool. Thanks, robert

Hope you like it! I'm kinda new in this area and have never published work of my own but im anxious to show whatever i make to you people! I made this guy totally from scratch for the july image contest in Hash`s page and arranged all the textures in Photoshop. He's very shy and with no self-esteem, but it doesn`t matter 'cause he carries a big bad heavy laser gun! Send any opinions please, im just starting and i would appreciate any comments! Thanx! Eos

I have posted 30 times so far, giving my $.02 about other peoples issues, that I neglected to provide some fodder of my own (how rude!). Here is one of 3 mdl's I am working on, it is rotoscoped off the head of a (personal favorite) model and mostly the splines follow the "cooper head" tut. at the ARM. Let the abuse begin-

Hi, my name is Jared Claybrooks, and this is my first animation project of decent quality. The subject matter is one of the boss fights from the game Earthbound. Ness, The Protagonist. Titanic Ant, The Antagonist. An image of the action. The whole animation won't be too substantial, maybe a minute and a half. I'd say that right now the project is about 60% complete, and could use some critiqueing before it's finished. thanks!

Each piece was made seperate then atatched to the base unit. It is not quite finished, there are a few more things to do. Ok Back to work[attachmentid=13494]

Is there any way to prevent this? the project was proposed to me by a friend promothing sciences to high school students. He needed visual support. thanks for comments! btw, I didn't waste time animating the character to open door... tido fus_e.wmv

Hello! As always it has been a while since I've posted anything here but I have been lurking! I have a new project now that I figured I should post a WIP of. First a little background: As my forum handle suggests, I am a photographer. I shoot a lot of digital but have in the past year gotten into analog photography. I now shoot my own B/W film and develop myself. The very popular and famous film, Kodachrome, was discontinued last year by Kodak. This film which is truly unique will never be made again. Also the one lab in the world that can still process it will stop processing at the end of this year. I managed to get a hold of a single roll of K…

So this is the first time I've done an animated logo with AM. Turned out pretty good. The company sells Kettlebells which are used for building muscles. For those of you who don't know, muscles are things in your body that are slowly shriveling up as you sit in front of the computer for hours and hours with out moving anything buy your hands and fingers. This isn't the final version. It's a low res sample. The final is HD and doesn't have the orange glow.... man it looks SWEET. I'm watching the final render right now... still about 90 minutes to go. pkb.mov Here's what the final will look like: The zoom was just straight forward key framing wi…

Hi i've been working on this little animation for most of the weekend. Its two actions a run cycle and a jump. I decided to use mr ball pretty much since he doesnt have arms to have to worry about, and i was inspired by some of the other mr ball animation on the forum. The run is very close copy of a run cycle in "The Animators Survival Kit" by Richard Williams I know the right foot has some funny issues i just couldnt seem to fix at certain points, will try to tweek them later. mrball.mov

Well I've had AM for 4 months and done too much goofing around. The ol' saying is writer's WRITE, so I guess animators ANIMATE! I've been so busy tweaking characters to be better than the previous version and worrying about rigging and things I can't do that it paralyzed me from doing much. So I decided to just rig something (since I have TSM2 anyway) and jump in and do something, so here's the start. I'm animating this as I go, but consider this version a kind of blocking, because I intend to go back and put in all the detail. Right now I want to get the short story down. It's been fun since it has been fairly quick to do to get it this far, maybe a few hours.…

Hi all I made this mike as part of my music video project. and have run into a problem. The top and bottom mesh's are the exact same decal, it kame out pretty well at first and looks quite cool, until I decided to make it a bump map, as I wanted the wire mesh to stand out to add detail. so top part bump mapped, bottom part is just the decal. [attachmentid=21147] now for the question: Do I forget about the bump mapping and just leave the top section same as the bottom half. Or: if someone can explain to me what I'm doing wrong that the decal comes out white? (It is originally a grayscale .tga image) And please as always, comments will be ap…

Will this is my first (somewhat) finished project. I teach 4th grade, and each year every class does a short, three minute, video about Christmas from a different country. Many of the teachers just tape something quickly to be done with it. I always turn it into a production, and produce a more edited product. So with that, this year I created a "Bug" to introduce our production. We always call the move from my room: "112 production".....because my room number is 112. So this 30 second video is about 60 hours: modeling, rigging, animation, rendering, and editing the final. It may not seem like much, but I learned a lot from doing this. Any feedback woul…

Hiya everybody. Here's a peek at my first A:M character. He's still *very* in-progress. This is just a copy-flip-attach of what I have, so far. Still needs decent eyes, body textures, possibly some fur, as well. What I'd really like to do, is shoot for the sort of look that "Father of the pride" has (if anyone has seen this new NBC show) But so far I havn't found any settings for the fur material that look right. I'm probably going to hold off rigging him until the new Setup Machine 2 comes out, since that should (theoretically) make the job easier. Making this guy has been an uphill battle, of not just coming to terms with the problems of spline …

unfortunantly AM froze and i lost all this i saved the model before i applied bones. when i put on the bones it sorta messed up his figure but it made him look cool so i decided to keep it messed up. but then AM exited before i could save it screwed up. then i put the bones on again and i did it right this time. i need to figure out how to make it wrong.......that sounded weird. oh and i named him toufy. cause hes supposed to look "tough" Toufy_head_bob.mov

Ok...so it's not gonna be the next Woody or Buzz...but hey, its my first A:M character and I'm kinda proud of him. Still loads of work to do (getting rid of that horrible beard and using A:M's hair system, sorting out those legs, teeth, tongue, bones...argghhh!!!!). LOTS of work!!! For any other newbies out there I highly recommend David Simmons eye tut (and I was <ahem> slightly inspired by how he did Bertrums belly!) Let me know what you think.

Hi, this is kind of a repost because I finished "version 1" of this guy, and plus I uploaded the wrong movie before. Anyway here he is, the first thing I've made in A:M. Thanks to jamagica for the quick little eye tutorial, even going through that taught me a lot. My goal in having this guy is not so much to make him the perfect model, but to have something of my own to learn to animate with. I've learned a TON in just building this one character (many thanks to everyone BTW). There are certainly some rough areas - the feet for sure and parts of the legs. The eyes need some kind of brow or eyebrows. I think I'm going to add "floating" eyebrows - what do y…

HOORAH! I'VE ALMOST FINISHED MY FIRST EVER CHARACTER CREATED COMPLETELY BY ME! Surprising considering how long I've been modeling, eh? I never really tried to model any characters because I was scared. Now I am not! Tell me what you think, but try not to ruin my good mood too badly. He's a bank robber for a short my friend wanted me to make. NOTE: It's kind of hard to see the bump map on his hood, (that has the lines like in a ski mask) but they're there and will be visible in close-ups (i hope).

My first attempt at making a face. I already know of many issues with it, but this is about two hours of effort just to get this. I've learned a lot from this exercise, mostly how splines work and 5 point patches. I'm off to sleep for tonight, tomorrow I'll work on doing a set of shoulders/torso, and maybe another face.
