ok, i got a big big problem here, deadline is in 2 days... i have this shot i need to render in high quality, at least 2000x1500 px.... the soccerfields grass is a hair system, color driven by a decal. when i rendered it in vga-resolution for a test with low hair-density (5%) everything looked fine, but when i increase the density parts of the hairsystem renders white, not green anymore... the higher the density-value, the more parts of the grass are rendered white. i use a skylight rig with 25 lights, wich was no problem in the past, also in combination with a field of grass made with hair with similar density-values and size... i tried almost everything: rendered …

Howdy All' So I'm working on a project where I need to simulate sand pouring out into a heap on the ground. Do any of you have a good suggestion as to how best to approach this in Hash? It doesn't necessarily have to look ultra realistic. But the more real the better. Any suggestions. I though of using a combination of dust, animated mesh and particles somehow. But I'm not sure how easy that would be. Is it possible to thicken and texture the fluid system in hash to serve this purpose?

This question is for Sebastian Pfeiffer, winner of image contest: What lighting setup did you use for your image of the cartoon characters? Or possibly, are the characters shading in a particular way? or was just diffuse, ambient and specular colors used? I ask, because, I'm liking the way the characters come across in your image. I'm trying to achieve a look very similiar to what yours displays, but perhaps with a bit more specular or highlighted areas on my characters. Thanks in advance for any information. To admins: I wasn't sure where to post this sort of question, so if it needs to be moved, I'll understand. Thx

If your familiar with the work of J. scott Cambell (Gen 13, Danger Girl) Then hopefully you'll recognize my inspiration for this type of toon render. Wonder Woman was just the first superhero I thought to model (most likely becuase of all the chat about the movies, which is on again off again, then justice league, which is on again off again). Anyway, I'm posting because I was hoping for some feedback (as well as someone to tell me I'm not wasting my time). About the model... everything i learned and applied here came from Demented3D's tutorials.. so props to that genius of a man! Everything is toon renedered and surfaced colored with gradients. The only decals …

I've decided to try to condense everything I've learned into one short film. I took some screenshots of the project so far. I'm not done with the planning the animation yet. I've been teaching myself how to draw so hopefully I've gotten better. I'm not done with modeling the human character, as that's probably my weakest point. Please tell me what you think so far and what I could do to make it better.

I wanted to experiment with using motion capture to create a looping walk cycle. I used Animazoo's "Hooker Walk", chose a good stride loop, removed the unwanted movement, turned on 'stride length', and SHAZAAM. pimpstrut2_20.mov I know mr. Bigboote made one of his girls walk with this same mo-cap, but I can't find it right now.

I just recently bought a 2004 Honda Rebel 250 motorcycle. Sold my Yamaha Vino 125 scooter and am now riding the Rebel. I started modelling the bike for three reasons. The first, is that I am learning how the darned thing is actually put together. The second is that come the winter months, I want to repaint it to make it more visible and distinctive. I also want to try any modifications to the bike first on a 3D model before implementing it on the real thing. So, I am modelling it from the ground up, which is satisfying the first reason for modelling the bike. The 34 Ford I was working on is going to have to wait a while until this project is done. C&am…

Just was wondering what some of your opinions were when it comes to the industry. I've seen two types of Demo reels. The type where there's a title card, the full project plays through and then repeats through other projects til done. Or a montage of clips with a music lay over of random projects segments. Which do you think is more professional? I see advantages for both. The P to P shows that you can be cohesive, that you can tell a full story visually while the montage can highlight your "money shots" and can show more of your work in the standard 3-4 min time span. I don't know. What do you guys think?

Hello all. I am looking for a variety of animators to produce short features for non-broadcast use. I need a variety of styles. From CUTESY to DETAILED. Some will be loops, others more scripted. Cute animated characters, space themes, dinosaurs.... seeking it all. I am paying by PayPal or check. Certainly not top dollar or industry standard, but for a beginner who has talent, this is a great opportunity. If I like what I see, I will come back for more. Please send demo reels & inquiries to j2productions@mac.com Thanks. -James

I hereby debut a vague, confusing, fragment of a tale in the process of creating itself. [albeit snippets have slipped out here and there]. The main character [bipedal and arthropoidal] is "EL Cucaracha". [Grammer, spelling and emphasis in the original]...a James Bond-style freebooter, now in the process of fleeing for his life, for reasons unknown, though those reasons are no doubt good ones. It's the confluence two idle, non-related thoughts suddenly recognizing each other. One: 'el bog' himself was the product of pushing elements around with no particular goal in mind, and, Two: what the world really needs is a locomotive that can run on a single wheel, a 'razor-r…

I've been busy with this. Roughly 24 hours modeling, 8 UV Mapping & Texturing, 12 rigging. Here's the result so far: No matter what I've tried, I haven't been able to get the front legs to look right. I think I'm going to have to make them a separate group with their own hair system, so that I can control the density separately. I've been trying to hold off on that, because I don't want to re-groom, but I guess I I'll have to. I built the rig myself, which wound up being easier than I thought. I couldn't use TSM because bears don't have the back legs of a quadruped, they have back legs like a biped. So, with some trial and error, I managed to co…

I've never entered one of the image contests because my AM work was usually rigging practice or the occasional live project for my day job. But I've got this online comic, Bugbots: The Mansect Rebellion! that has been back-burnered for a couple of years now. I've occasionally tried some 3D treatments but usually ran into some glitch or complication and put it aside. But I decided to try one more time to model and rig a character, and recreate a scene from the comic as a still image. So what I'm working on is a model of Croaker, the assassin bug, in a 3D recreation of the last panel of Chapter 3.

This is my attempt at doing the voice of the main character of my current project. She is an approximately-ten-year-old girl who reaches the age of early 20s by the end the project, so her voice should change a little between the beginning and end of the story. I figured, by doing the voice myself, I could change the voice as needed. Self-directing is easier than telling someone else exactly what you need. (also, it makes it less daunting to do multiple takes). I thought I would post this test (or self-audition) here on this site to get the opinions of my fellow animators, whose opinions I trust. And, yes, I borrowed, verbatim, the dialog from Jason Osipa's ani…

HEY! Sorry if this has been a topic before, I may have missed it...but I just caught a great 'toon made with A:M at YouTube.com called 'Slap Happy'... BIG WARNING do not search for this if you are easily offended by sexual-themed animations...DEFINATELY DO NOT SEARCH FOR SPRUNT ON YOUTUBE. Hi guys I'm having a break from mechanical modeling. This time I'm modeling a dinosaur, something I've always wanted to do. I got the mesh made, but is going to do some detail (especially on his head) and proportion tweaking. Let me know what you think so far btw, is there a premade rig (like the 2001 rig) that will fit this little monster?

Started this yesterday and finished most of the splining for the face today. Here is a quick render. The decal applied is the reference image used to model it. Rendered with AO and one light using 1 decal and the Skin shader. No SSS because it always comes out black ... I still need to finish modeling the lips and eyelids, and then create eyes that are non-decal. I don't like how the nose looks, and am having trouble finding good reference on how it looks from the side : \ I am going to try to make this the full thing with hair and what not so bear with Comments and Crits welcome on the splinage ... http://youtube.com/watch?v=y29l0h-1yAE Just finished a VERY RETAIL TV spot for my recurring client, Art Van Furniture. The imagery was generated by decalling furniture photos to A:M geometry. Of note: I used the BensLens Fisheye to get the 'barrel-roll' effect (I love) and you can really see it in the middle on the words 'FUNCTION-STYLE-FASHION' Also used the AI Wizard for titles and Field Render for video smoothness... client LOVED it!

Hello, I finally found some free time and have been going through Barry Zundels turtorials. I've come to the section (2nd DVD)where you save the left side of the model and flip the bone structure to the right then save. Then in a new project you open the model with the left side then import the right side into the model. The problem I'm having is it break the other side when it's imported. I've tried both ways importing the left side then the right and vice vesa. This use to work in privious versions. I only have version 15B installed at this time. Any Ideas what I might try? Phil

I was convinced by a friend to start a Blog. Despite less-than-riotous enthusiasm on my part, he pressed on, built it, and posted a few animations. It was great! I've been meaning [for years] to update my website. [Who hasn't?] This was so painless. And the blog will take file sizes 'way beyond what I can e-mail to friends. So here's my first public posting. A Santos-Dumont Airship No.6 is rendered over several views of the Eiffel Tower, giving the appearence [with only a mild suspension of disbelief] of circumnavigating. The clips were edited together in Sony Vegas Movie Studio. http://kelleythennow.blogspot.com/

Just a 'work in progress' view of the opening scene of an animation I hope I will one day finish and posting updates here may help with the motivation in achieving that goal. Nothing in the picture is finished, much still needs decals, textures, etc and more models need to be created. There will be an old 1930's style truck, more rocks, some grass and the gumtree will have more branches. The main character is currently under construction and when finished I'll upload a pic. The story is of a lonely preteen boy who dreams of rockets and having a friend his age and who lives on an isolated farm in 'outback' Australia with his Red Army veteran Grandpa.

Cheers Heiner There u go: What parameter will i have to crank if i want to have a contious flow of liquid and not only droplets? Or has that something to do with the general size used in the scene?
