Haven't had much time to spline lately. I'm shifting gears for a moment BUT staying A:M focused. Below please find links to my space on the web. I'll be adding pictures to my site and trying to organize for the future. Animation Master, CorelDraw, Comics, 2D, 3D and more will be explored. So, Some really basic stuff here folks (some of which you may have seen) so don't laugh: http://home.comcast.net/~rodney.baker/index.htm One of my most recent revelations and a web interface idea I'd like to explore: http://home.comcast.net/~rodney.baker/amscreen/screen.htm The spinning animation was created in A:M but just there to fill space until …

Hey List, I'm modeling a character in 10.5k+ and I'd like to get some advice as to how I can close some patches and avoid the artifacts visible in the attached picture. I've made sure that none of the intersections are peaked but I can't seem to get a smooth surface Thanks for any help. Gary

I hate to leave something half done, but it'll be a while before I get a chance to get back to this. It was started for some Skycast tests and tutorials. There has to be a better way to build a car.

Hands Down

This is a very short clip of a possible short film. I say possible short film because I don't know if I'll ever actually make it, I was simply doing this to test out some stuff I had learned. Keep in mind this is the very first animation that I have rendered (I've made plenty of animations that were so bad I threw them away) and there are plenty of mistakes. To name one, the hand sinks into the ground at the beginning, but it's not too terribly noticable. The hand was modeled in Wings 3D. When I imported it into AM, it looked like there were holes all over the model. The go away once you render the animation, but it bothers me anyway, does anyone know why it does th…

I'm mostly just trying out this message board for the first time, but here's a model I started in V.8.5 but I found it too time consuming to work out all the smartskin issues(eg.- how the heck do you get the cheek to deform properly when the shoulder is "shrugged" at the same time?) Would the newest version of AM for Mac make it much easier?-but I mean in actual practice, not just in theory. Does anybody know of a good example of this sort of pudgy biped that has been animated successfully in AM? Please click here Thanks. Paul

18 Nov 2003 - First draft render complete! Thanks a heck of a lot, Hashers at Large, for the support. There's a new reply at the end of this post with a pic of the render. 13 Oct 2003 - I've added an updated post at the bottom, showing my progress on this project. I have some modeling questions about noses, in case anyone is interested in looking. --Ross ----------------------------------------------------- I've got a model in the works of a fishman/merman creature, and right now I'm just trying to get the head done. I hope to make it animatable in some limited capacity (I doubt I'll do phonemes). I have tried at least a dozen times t…

I've finally completed this model. I've been working on it for a long time. I originally made the head months (a LONG time) ago, and have been slowly working on the body. Well, I've finally finished the main body work. It is not officially complete yet, as I'm sure I'll be changing things and making it look different, but, at least it's a complete body. It still needs tweaking (like the hands, which look a bit bad) and texturing. But anyway, if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please feel free to post! Cheers!

Here's my question. I've been modeling a quick-n-dirty cartoon character, of which I am still working on the head. I've learned from experience and tried to make the character with absolutely no creases. So far I think I've acheived my goal. The problem is that the head seems to change color in the back (due to shadows). If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please tell me.

My office is going to be relocating soon, and my boss asked if I could help draft some preliminary plans to give to the architects. I used A:M to lay it out, rendering out a slice of the walls in wireframe mode for the paper plans, then modeled like a monkey on crack over the weekend to put in some "set dressing": Click the thumbnails for larger versions. Sadly, I ran out of time and only got about a third of the way through making the props for the office area, so I won't be posting those until I've finished them. (At which point I'll render with soft shadows, as well...) Still, I was happy enough with them, and they did highlight some problems with…

I thought that it was time I posted something more substantial so here's a still from my new short "12". I can't say enough about Skycast and how much it has helped me so far with this project - the ambient light effect here is created entirely with that rig and it not only looks sweet, rendering it doesn't take an age either. Thanks to those who've helped out on the screw heads - I ended up using what I'd already built as skycast is very forgiving when it comes to minor flaws in patches. Did I say that it was rather good? There is still a bit of texturing work to do, but I've made good ground with the animation. I'm working to release the first epis…

Thought I'd move Maggie over to the WIP so I don't spend so much list time. Warning: graphics overload (4 shots). She's become very soft, almost cartoony now. I'd kind of like to try and push her back to a little more realism. I've tried using specular highlight to get the glint in her eyes to become alive, but it's not really working. I'm going to try a clear overlayer tomorrow to see how that works. Any other hints would be welcome. I did move the decal a bit and it does improve the look. She's got an extra ring on the lips now, and the upper half of the jumpsuit is modelled as you can see. The arm is attrociously dense, but …

When I was 8-11 years old, I used to purchase Sonic the Hedgehog comic books every month. I picked one of them up recently, and realized that even though 99% of the comic was extremely dorky, there was one character that stood out. In a certain issue, Sonic was Mechanized by the evil Doctor Robotnik, and this new Mecha-Sonic actually looked pretty badass. Has anyone else seen this guy? I decided to start building him, but I'm having troubles with his head - those strange big pokey things on the back are inconsistent in almost every frame, yet they seem to have some order to them. I can't quite figure them out. Here's what I got so far: It…

Here is my first try at modelling one of my own concepts. It's supposed to be quite stylised which is why it looks a little like a rat with small ears. I need a little advice on the best way to model a mouth into my head. I have tried modelling the lower jaw separately and then joining it but I end up with some nasty peaks. I don't want to play around with the gammas too much as it will eventually be a dancing bear (that sings a little) and i don't want any unpredictable motion. Anyway, I know that it's not much so far, but here it is.

No reflection turn on, 4 procedural texture use, 6 lights, 3 composite. win98se, amd2000+,512meg ram,Geoforce4 TI4600, and v10.5k next I will try my hand at flash for the cell between the 2 render element! Here's a room I'm making for a game with Alpha 8 Win 2000. I'm having abit of trouble getting it to look good. The current issues are: 1 Shadows within shadows. That can't happen in reality given that there is only one light source. 2 Anomaly in wallpaper which is a decal used on all the walls. There is no spline located there 3 The outline of the table(and shelf) is taking on the colour of the wall under the decal (I have the opacity at 50% to get varying shades on each of the walls) Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks. PS After loading the project it takes an age to save the…

I've been organising my backups and I found these old very simple models. In 9.5 I had to toon render them(there was no time for texturing) but I added them into a 10.5 chor and added a skycast light, and I thought the result wasn't bad. Each of the characters was modelled and rigged in 4 hours. The geometry is very light as I had no tiime for adding intermediate bones or smartskinning(they were animated).

Greetings, good community. What's up? Mine is a story you've all heard before -- making a model, looking for advice, secretly fishing for charitable encouragement. :P hehe These are bodyparts of a merman/creature from a dark fantasy story. Hey all. I'm looking for a little input for my little, on-going merman project. I am now attempting/struggling to texturemap the head. Jim Talbot's video tuts have been really helpful in this capacity, since I needed to know how A:M allowed the magical UV process to take place. But from a more artistic standpoint, I really don't know what to do. What sort of skin tone would look best? How thick should a person lay on shading and facial features? Does he need color mapping for wrinkles, or should I leave that to bump mapping? Any input is quite welcome. Here are some pics. This is an exciting time, I'm in the process of beginning a new model. My modeling skills are not the greatest, and I often find myself in frustration as my mesh ceases to flow correctly. If anyone else ever experiences similar dilemmas, try this, it helps. I drew a few quick sketches of what I thought I wanted, took what I liked from each of them, and ended up with a drawing shown in the first upper left image. I then drew out better rotoscopes, clarifying just what I wanted, and making sure I had a clear idea of where I was going in specific areas. I then suppressed the extremely strong urge to jump on the computer and start modelling. I dug through some things and foun…

Here's my digger model - rotoscoped from some photos I took from a roading construction site. I'm hoping to animate it for a job I'm doing at the moment. I'm trying to do the tracks at the moment, and I'm trying to bone them so I can get the tracks to turn (as in the excellent tutorial for tank tracks on the AM Resource site).

Here is my shuttlepod from Enterprise. I still have to texture it, but my AM2002 isn't applying decals at the moment. You apply them, but you can't see them on the model, nor will it render. I think it's playing up with my current release of OSX, so I'm waiting to get an upgrade for AM. But I think the model is coming along well. Next I'll make up the Enterprise NX-01 to go with it.

I would like some comments on this model. I am looking for any suggestions in general, but specifically on how to improve her hair. This is a helmet hair approach using opacity mapping. I'm not convinced that this appraoch is going to work. I might try to do v11 hair. pro or con anyone? Also, I used skycast for this clip. Any idea why her lips and face lose their specular highlights? You can run through the quicktime frame by frame and see different parts of her body in pretty good detail. I can always post more if there are specific questions... Play

Using v105n On several occasions when I've tried to hook a spline, it shoots past the target spline and attaches itself to another spline, sometimes with a hook and sometimes with a CP. In the past I've been eventually able to get it hooked where I need it, but this time no matter what I do it just keeps attaching itself to another hooked spline further on. I've included a couple of screenshots showing where it's supposed to go and where it actually ended up. I had even locked and hidden all the CP's outside of the area shown in the first image, yet it still attached itself to the same hooked spline. Can anyone tell me how to get around this, or why it's happeni…

This is something I've been putting off doing because I knew just bump maps weren't going to cut it for such exposed and prominent tread lugs. But the worst part was joining all the loose splines for each rotated segment copy. Although I simplified the tread pattern on the real tire, it's still not absolutely crease free and at 3156 it's a bit patch heavy but it should hold up to an arm's length inspection. Still working on materials. truck wheel WIP
