Hi everyone. I'm a user of A:M since version 8.5 Used to be on the mailing list but got off a long time ago. Just thought I'd get back into the community here and show off my current work in Progress. The Model is of a Klyros a Race from the Open Source MMORPG Planeshift. I plan to animate him eventually so tell me what you think of him :D

I thought I'd show you all a little snippet from the next Bella Bear story that I am working on. It's only a teaser, and I am hoping to have a storyboard similar to my last one out within the next month or so. Let the slagging commence!

well everyone. a while back i lost my bean characters models but not the idea. i am going to remake the beans and then make a cool picture of them... first i am going to make each character and then give them the same little render clip like the one here but i am going to find a way to make the hands better because i am trying to stay away from toon render becuase i know how much lack of modeling i cause myself by using toon render... it is doing me no good. so here is a first update of the main bean. Ninja Bean. and no i have not forgotten about my other projects. i am managing my time. sorry if you all are mad because i already have a bean WIP topic out th…

18 Nov 2003 - First draft render complete! Thanks a heck of a lot, Hashers at Large, for the support. There's a new reply at the end of this post with a pic of the render. 13 Oct 2003 - I've added an updated post at the bottom, showing my progress on this project. I have some modeling questions about noses, in case anyone is interested in looking. --Ross ----------------------------------------------------- I've got a model in the works of a fishman/merman creature, and right now I'm just trying to get the head done. I hope to make it animatable in some limited capacity (I doubt I'll do phonemes). I have tried at least a dozen times t…

I intended to enter this in the Hash Animation Comp but didn`t finish it as I got distracted by other things. Must try harder next time. I`ve added hair to my character in AM Version 11 Alpha1. I am stunned by how fantastic this new hair is! http://www.dalemation.free-online.co.uk/CreepyTalkWIP.html Divx 3.2MB Dale.

Needed a break today from what I was working on so I tried to model the standard Dragon. Since I usually don't model anything that complex I thought I would ask for some help. I did what I posted using what I remember from the "devil dog" modeling on the Hash tapes. meaning I started with an extrusion then cut it in half and added the legs, arms wings to the half and copy flipped and attached. There are no claws , feet or real head but I posted a wireframe and a little qt any comments suggestions welcome. http://johnl.inform.net/pages/dragon0.htm thanks

I thought that it was time I posted something more substantial so here's a still from my new short "12". I can't say enough about Skycast and how much it has helped me so far with this project - the ambient light effect here is created entirely with that rig and it not only looks sweet, rendering it doesn't take an age either. Thanks to those who've helped out on the screw heads - I ended up using what I'd already built as skycast is very forgiving when it comes to minor flaws in patches. Did I say that it was rather good? There is still a bit of texturing work to do, but I've made good ground with the animation. I'm working to release the first epis…

Here's an WIP snapshot of the mascot that I am working on for my own website. I sitll nee to put bones in him, so I could animate him. But I don't have good enough understanding of constrains and cloth dynamic, so I have a work cut out for me still. I am sure it will be a great learning experience. If you have any tip, I greatly appreciate it. Here's the original 2D designs

Hi all, Yes, I'm still alive! I've just been working on other things, is all... Anyhoo, I finally got round to sticking the last leg on my model. The only problem is, her pelvis looks like a triangle, and the legs seem blocky... I've tried smoothing it out, but I need to step back and invite some critique, so: 3PL Far Shot 1 (gaah! help me out on her pelvis, please!!!) Hiya :) I've been working on my entry for the 10 sec club and would like to get some feedback if possible, thanks! http://demented3d.com/animation/mkrick-10sec-dec03.avi This month they're doing something different and the soundclip's in Italian! But it's from Nightmare before Xmas when Sally tries to poison the Doctor, I've added some subtitles which should help. All done in 10.5.

Here is a QuickTime link to my short "Marboxian." Some of you may have seen this at the Hash film show at SIGGRAPH; Ottawa; or one of a few other screenings. It's picked up a couple of minor awards, and audiences -- including, I'm told, a roomful of very sleepy children, once -- seem to like it. Link. Two warnings: First, the file is 114MB (12 minutes at good quality). Second, it's hosted through my cable modem, and I can't guarantee decent bandwidth. (Mike Muncy's been great to me, but I really can't afford the kind of bandwidth I'd need to host it off his servers. Or... much else right now. *sigh*) Keep democratizing- -M@

My office is going to be relocating soon, and my boss asked if I could help draft some preliminary plans to give to the architects. I used A:M to lay it out, rendering out a slice of the walls in wireframe mode for the paper plans, then modeled like a monkey on crack over the weekend to put in some "set dressing": Click the thumbnails for larger versions. Sadly, I ran out of time and only got about a third of the way through making the props for the office area, so I won't be posting those until I've finished them. (At which point I'll render with soft shadows, as well...) Still, I was happy enough with them, and they did highlight some problems with…

Hey everyone, A while ago, I mentioned that I was working on a pair of base meshes for my own projects, and that I also would be willing to share with the community at large. I have a full body finished now, but there is still a lot of tweakage to be done. I've been looking at this for a while now, so I was hoping to get some fresh perspective other than the random references I've cobbled together. Please visit the page and let me know what you think and what features you think would be useful in a basic mesh of this type (in terms of being able to stretch/shrink parts of the body, change levels of musculature, whatever). -Edit: Still graphics heavy, …

I need a bit of help: I'm working on a head and I need to delete half to do a copy flip attach but each time I try the app drops to desktop. this happens in both the latest alpha and in v10.5. I need to delete these points to do a copy/flip/attach. Any ideas? I've been trying for 2 days. I've attached the .prj file. the points labeled "delete" are the ones I don't want. -Project file removed- (Will post pictures later)

I tried running A:M in the background and did the first 60 even frames at 320x240. Render times went from 4 mins at start to 40 mins at end. It's quite a globulous liquid! It sort of resembles oil in water. (QT Sorenson3 123KB) water30.mov

Hello All, Here are a couple of water craft that I will be using for my film school portfolio project that I will begin here in a couple of months. The project will be an adventure movie trailer. The first two models of the film look simple but have had their problems. One problem is straight panel lines on curved surfaces. I have used the texture "EDIT" and that works great but there are still some problem areas. I think it is is my approach that I need to rethink. Any way, I would appreciate your input. Thanks AD

Hey everyone - this is my first shot at modelling a character with an outward mouth/jaw (animal) the other 4 characters I have done have flat faces, so I decided to give it a try. I asked my 3 year old what I should make and he said a rat.. when it was finished, he said it was "bad - make a new one", so I have a 3 years old opinion so far I am more interested in the modelling end of 3D animation, but I also put him in a short 20 second animation since my animation skills could use some work too. I put the character up on my site - he is the 5th one over on the top - pic of the rat. Any suggestions to make future projects better would be greatly appreciated. Tha…

Hullo I've been modelling a BMW Z4. The front is almost done. I'm rather excited because this is the first time I've been able to actually model something that looks like it is supposed to! **creases in the middle because its just a copy/flip job (Im using the Rooftop Mayhem scene because i like the lighting and i'm lazy.) (ignore the stuff inside the headlight hole) Here's a reference picture i'm using: Any comments?

I am hoping that those of you with experience can share some wisdom in the fine art of texturing a model, i can probably handle the decaling well, but the actualy process of getting a half-decent texture using photoshop eludes me. I am trying to do a reptile look, sort of monster-ish

This is my first time modeling a complete 3D figure. The Hair is fixed! Disregard the Topic description :D Here are some sample renderings of my project. I am at intermediate level with A:M The scene with the buildings was giving me some problems. I was using a streaking particle system. I wanted to create some kind of electrical force field around the building with the big orb. When I rendered it, it kept on crashing. There was some kind of bug in the streak particle system in some of the frames.I think I will keep it simple. Does anyone have tips on creating a good looking and simple force field?

My entry in last night's animation showdown. The topic was catching something heavy. (QT Sorenson3 140kb) I spent a long time trying to get the double take to work and never really got it. Still lots of room for A:M people to try this showdown out. It's usually on wednesdays at digitalrendering.com. Ya can't say you don't have time... ya don't get much! The entry always needs to be in divx, does that lock out the Macs?

Hi - I just finished modeling the gorilla for another modeling practice project - concentrating on more detailed modeling - still having a problem at getting my models exact, but it is starting to flow a little better - still a ways to go before I gets as skilled as a lot of you guys. For example the watch on the gorilla's wrist - if you look close some of the pieces are no super smooth, but hey practice practice practice makes perfect right? Need to work on the gorilla's lips and nose a little more, I may have accidentally moved some of the pixels - I noticed when I rendered the pics. Anyway, here goes - any suggestions on anything would be appreciated. Than…
