Here's an example of Sound Marks that generally should be avoided in a creative endeavor: https://www.uspto.gov/trademark/soundmarks/trademark-sound-mark-examples Most of these fall into the common sense category but a general rule of thumb is to steer well clear of sounds made popular in jingles and advertisements for commercial products. When I consider some of these and how simple they are (such as NBC's three note sound mark) I am reminded of just how precarious the road forward can be in establishing recognizable themes that identify specific products or services. This isn't to say that the three notes from NBC's title cannot be place anywhere else. It …

I'm making a masted ship. Masted ships usually have guy ropes going all over the place to hold up the masts and yards. I can model ropes and tie the knots, but that runs up the patch count quite a bit. Is there a better way to run the ropes?

The user interface for this program isn't exactly intuitive but I thought it might be useful for those that don't have a dedicated viewer to open and adjust EXR renderings outside of A:M. Being able to relight images easily is very useful. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mrviewer/?source=typ_redirect The program can do a lot more than just open, display and convert EXR images so may be worth a look. Listed features: A video player, interactive image viewer, and flipbook for use in VFX, 3D computer graphics and professional illustration. Features Flipbook player HDRI viewer Multichannel Support in OpenEXR, PSD, MIFF and TIFF formats MultiView OpenEXR …

This most likely includes your broadband modem at home which is often a router itself. F.B.I.’s Urgent Request: Reboot Your Router to Stop Russia-Linked Malware I'll note that whenever the tech support for my internet provider said i needed to reboot my modem, they said it needed to be unplugged for several minutes to really clear it.

Reaquainting myself with AM. Currently using AM 64 bit v19 on Windows 10. Way back I used to use MOV a lot. Since 64bit does not support outputing to MOV I am using AVI YUV at a output setting of 1024 X 768 (or larger) for a quick prview test. When I use Quicktime the movie inspector feature of QT shows only a max of 728 X 476 resolution. This applies to VLC as well. Cannot find anywhere that AVI is limited to that resolution or that AM is limiting it. What s up with AVI? Help.

Ghastly and miserable, the previous three days in Texas were. Winters here are usually "mild" with maybe one day with snow and several nights where it gets below freezing. And it's been trending warmer over the last few decades. But last weekend the coldest weather in all the time I've been here arrived and somehow caused a collapse of the whole electricity-generating system. They warned us in advance to expect rolling blackouts of 15 minutes to an hour. I was ready for that but at my house the power went out and stayed out for more than two days. Electric heat is all I've got so this is what it came to... warming my feet by candles. That wa…

I just bought the subscription version of AM, again. I didn't have to. I still had an active license. Get this, I bought it and there was NO LINK TO DOWNLOAD IT AT ALL!!!! I don't know who to talk to. I called the customer service line, no response. Someone needs to start waking people up. Saying that I am frustrated is an UNDERSTATEMENT. I AM LIVID. I am not going to request a trial version when I freaking bought a subscription.

I noticed that V19 uses a lot of RAM on my Windows 7 laptop compared to V13 . Just looping an action will run it up, and there seems to be no way to empty the cache. Does anybody else has that issue? Thanks.

I made a model with lots of loosing ends coming out of it. My goal is to use it several times with use of dynamic constraints. So I added all loose ends with several dynamic constraints with different weights and saved the file. After using this file in an action with succesful weighted effect I saved it under a new action name. When trying to use the start action with the saved file all my dynamic constraints are gone. Is this a common fact, or isn't it possible to reuse a file that has the dynamic constraints already confirmed?

There are many ways to approach the breaking down of scenes in a film but one of the best is to study what has worked (and worked especially well) in the past. For many years Hans Perk has posted the drafts from classic films on his blog where the films can be examined in light of these production drafts. These drafts attempt to break down the assignment of scenes as they are doled out to the various animators. Much can be learned from these drafts. As a means to understand the breakdown of timing in a shot or sequence we can see the timing of any particular shot from the vantage point of any animator or director. In this assigned shot, M…

I'd like something like this for a musical instrument project and I'm thinking I've seen them before, but I'm not sure what they are called. They would be about a half inch at the base, ideally. Sturdy metal, of course. Am i just dreaming, or is this a commonly available piece of hardware?

When I first saw this I thought it was a trailer for an upcoming movie... did I just imagine that it's suppose to eventually be a full feature? Hmm. Aw well, at any rate they've released this short (starring the voice of Steve Martin as the alien leader) for all to see: FavW-Y1kaxs Something to note: The length of this film is a good measure for shorts. It runs 4 minutes 7 seconds which includes intro and credits. And yet it is more than sufficient to tell the story. It also reminds me of some old A:M shorts.

I'm staring at a dilemma that seems to resolve around the necessity of including bitmaps (for decals, backgrounds, etc.) and am actively searching for a solution to set aside or exclude bitmaps from the general workflow. Now, this isn't to suggest that bitmaps would not be a part of the project workflow at all but rather to set them aside for a time to optimize the given workflow. As an example, let's say we have a system where the use of only text files is the norm and is preferred. Let us also assume that text-based image formats (SVG and base-32/base-64,etc.*) aren't ideal either although additional development might allow for them, especially the latter as they …

Hello Hashers- I have a copy of Version 18.0F SSE4 on a Windows 7 computer that did not have any animation previous animation software on it. It runs great. I also bought another copy of Version 18.0F SSE4 at Comic Con so I could bring my old computer (which already had an older copy of AM 17) up to the latest version. This machine performs well except that it won't render avi files when rendering.(?) while running V18. I know V18 has no problem with rendering avi files because the first machine renders them easily. My thinking is that maybe there is something that V17 has on the machine which is preventing the newer updated V18 from rendering avi.'s properly…

Sony Picutures/Imageworks is pressing toward the release of an updated Popeye. Initially I was quite skeptical but if anyone can pull off a decent Popeye feature it's bound to be Genndy Tartakovsky. The 'animation test' begins after a short intro. I have never been a huge fan of Popeye although at times I almost became one when a story hinted at his potential. But I watched him a lot when I was a kid. As a kid of four or five years old I use to have a recurring nightmare where I was down in a deep well being chased by a shark and it wasn't until (by happenstance in my late teens) I saw an episode of Popeye where that scene played out with Popeye as t…

Hey! Can someone direct me to a good water tutorial that was made after 2001? For some reason I cannot make any of the steps of this process happen at all. I have been going off of the tutorial on the bonus disc (http://www.babbagepatch.com/water.htm) and I'm not sure if the author is skipping over valuable information, or if I'm just an idiot. The first phase of this process is to make a model with a Turbulence Combiner that can be animated in an action (and thus define water depth) on the Y and Z axis that will cause a wave material. I cannot get these basics to work and I'm starting to get really frustrated. I've also been comparing my work with the .prj file…

I have a character riding in a vehicle that looks flat and washed out. The character and vehicle are part of the same model. The character was placed into the vehicle via action file. The vehicle looks fine after rendering as does the rest of the scene, except for the character riding in the vehicle. The character in the vehicle looks fine in the real time render. Other characters look fine in the final render. When I say flat and washed out, I mean no shading at all. There is just flat color in the shape of the character. What am I leaving out? Thanks.

I'm revisiting an old topic. As I'm learning more Python stuff, I want to find a way to make a new Python 3D mathematical model plugin for A:M like Petr Sorfa's from years ago. Is there a way to peek inside the HXT so I can code a new compatible version? Otherwise I will have to use the A:M SDK and try to re-create the plugin. What is the best way to do this? I'm still a beginner in the programming/plugin arena but I'm motivated. Thanks...

Mark Mayerson (of Mayerson on Animation blog-fame) has a video "Don't Pitch a Buyer, Pitch the Audience!" that is making the rounds that covers a good bit of territory of topics of interest to creators. The video is just short of one hour in length but will be well worth your time. xhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtQQmmbvmGc It's a great summary on topics that have been gaining ground, especially as more creative types vie for the attention (and money) to support their projects.

Hey Guys just wanted to know if Boolean cutting is now working with geometry or we still doing it the old way with bones and showing only when its rendering ? What I mean by geometry is that can objects be subtracted with boolean cutter and the patches get cut by AM - so its a solid cut and not faux via render only - would be really good for STL and 3D printing . . .

Hiya! I've recently purchased MODO Indi (to give it a serious look see to see if I want to save up to buy a full-on version of MODO), and so far I'm rather impressed. It hasn't crashed once on me, and it's work flow and my brain flow seem to be more or less on the same page. Anyway... ...I was fartin' around on their site looking for any of the extra stuff for MODO that I don't get with MODO Indi (mainly the scripting and plugins stuff), and came across something called "ACS 2 Kit" ("Automatic Character Setup 2 Kit"). One thing that instantly popped out at me was just how similar it seemed to be to a lot of the built-in stuff we have here in A:M. One thing in …

I have decaled quite a bit with good results, but today I encountered a new problem. I used a 32 bit TGA as the decal on a character that I made using the decal as a rotoscope. (In other words, the figure fits fairly well with the decal.) When I apply, I see actual holes in the model. It looks as if the picture has worn through with ragged edges. I'm using Version 18j (64 bit). There are no holes in the model before the decal is applied. I have attached a picture of the model below. I'm interested in how to avoid the problem and how to fix it. Thanks.
