The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hi im not exactly a new user, but i kind of got out of the program for a while... i mostly use it to see how light would play on a particular shape these days. I need to make a half way decent sun... but i cant get lens flare to turn on it always displays a grayed out off... what do i need to do to turn it on? Of if some one has a sun model they would let me use that would be grand...

Gotten to a point where I'm adding a light to a model. However, adding the light completely blackens the model surfaces that don't have ambiance set high. It's likt all reference lighting in the window turns off..anyone ever seen this? Thanks, Rich

I use to have under properties a way of adjusting hair density, but My computer ran into issues and had to do a fresh install of XP SP2. However when I reloaded Hash V11 with Upgrade to AM V13.0 suddenly that Density option went missing. I tried reloading it, and will try again after I get done posting this. But its a real problem, I can't find any software update links other than for VS 17 web version, which I refuse web subscription, I only want hard copies of software. Anyway if you guys know what possibly happened so that I can undo it that would be great. Thank you.

I probably have some setting dinged somewhere but not sure. I'm just doing basic spline practice in a Model window. In pure wireframe mode, the splines look like normal smooth curves. In the shaded modes, each spline becomes a double line segment instead of a smooth curve. What do you think I have wrong? -SB

In a model window, I have an unattached 4 point spline. I click on a CP to select it, then right-click to bring up the context menu. I select "Delete", and it asks me if I want to delete "Untitled". I click "Yes", but nothing happens -- the CP is still there. However, if I use the "Delete" key instead of the menu, I can delete the CP. Is this normal? Is the Delete menu reserved for something else? (A:M 11.1i, WinXP SP3) -SB

I have the Eddie model in a model window. In the PWS, I open the Splines group and click on a spline (Spline #....). I would expect to see the corresponding spline in the geometry highlighted, but don't. I then click a CP in the geometry, which I'm not sure if selects a spline? (green highlight on part of the spline). I would expect to see the spline, or the CP, highlighted in the PWS, but don't. ... Ok, I now see that clicking on a named group will highlight that group of CPs in the geometry. I would just expect clicking on a spline in the PWS would also highlight the spline, and vice versa selecting the spline in the geometry would highlight th…

After working some on my "flour sack" model, I saved the model, then decided to close A:M. When I agreed to save the project, the error: "RPC Server unavailable". Then when I went to close it again, it crashed. Any configuration issues I should change? Or just one of those things? -SB

For some reason I can't find an "Add-Lock" tool, or access it. I open a Model window, and see the "A+" tool (cursor with +), and I see a grayed out "Lock" (but no +). It is referenced in the AM V10.5 help, so I'm sure it should be somewhere, just can't find it. Any ideas? -SB

Snap Group to surface is "view dependent" which I take to mean that it will move the CPs in what ever direction you are viewing from, right? However, i can only get it to move in one direction. A while back I discovered a bug with the way my GPU handles displaying animation playback/scrubbing in AM. There is a bit of a lag and/or dropped frames which can make it difficult to tell what is going on. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Intel HD graphics, the Nvidia GPU, or the Nvidia Optimus feature which is supposed to switch between the 2 (I'm assuming it may be due to Optimus, but haven't been able to confirm by testing all cases yet). Currently I've got only the Nvidia discrete GPU enabled and am looking for my project file to scrub through the timeline to see if it is still an issue. So I finally got around to installing my AM v18 update, thought I would check out some of the tutorials however they just pop up a "404 not found" error when launching the tutorial. I have a burning question okay maybe not burning. When making a body part like arms and legs for a biped character what is the ideal lathing settings for them? I'm running latest version of A:M in MacOS 10.9.5 on a 2014 Macbook Pro. Importing targa files seems to be my best option for using rotoscopes and decals in the modeling window (jpg won't import). The images do not display correctly in the modeling window. Only part of the image is viewable. This makes it very difficult to place decals correctly on a surface, though once I do apply them after considerable effort, the decals render correctly. Modeling using the images as rotoscopes is impossible. My graphics were set to OpenGL3 initially, but I changed them to OpenGL. This gave me about 50% better viewing, but it still is not a viable option. Does anyone ha…

A while back I had to create a box and add subdivisions to it. It took some time. So I created some subdivided boxes with a bevel on the edge. This is certainly not the best way to create a beveled box I'm sure....But may save some "spline time" It's a lot easier to erase splines than adding them in. Also, the "Split patch" wizard comes in handy. Bevel box sub divisions.mdl

Hey..... For smart skin purposes.....can you animate/key the bias handles curvature? If not, a low spline model with longer handles seem to present a difficult issue with how the curves work as the creases get squeezed.

Hi Folks Its been years since I've been on the forums in a contributive way. I have a question. I made a cloth, dropped on a model with a deflector in a chor. Its great. Now I want to create a model from the cloth that was simulated in the chor, from a specific frame in time. Said differently. The original cloth was a flat grid. After the cloth simulation, the flat grid is now deformed by the deflector model, and that deformation changes through time with each frame. I want to take the cloth from frame 4 and export that model as a new model so I get a new model with the new deformations from frame 4. Im, sure there is a way to do this. I tried co…

Spent hours setting up constraints finger joints, all was working well. Came back later, opened the project and boom. Most of the constraints had vanished. For some reason a few remained (see attached) but they were "broken" and had question mark on them. This was made with new pose on/off when I started and everything seemed to be working. I did notice as I was doing this that AM was creating an Action file and all was going into that but after closing the window and returning to the project all constraints but a few had turned to vapor. Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask this. I've already received a trial license in the past, and want to upgrade to a full (yearly sub) license in the near future. What is the process for that? This is intended more for the newbies out there to help you to get acquainted with the software. Yes, you can move on to modeling more organic pieces fairly quickly, but I would encourage you to take some time and really learn what is possible with the more "mechanical" forms. Howdy guys, I run across a new problem today as I continue my AM learning journey. Suddenly, when I use "copy, flip, attach" on my model, the objects are placed on top of and upside down to the original piece rather than becoming an attached mirrored image (thus making a whole) like I want (and what I used to get). I have v.19 installed on a couple of Dell INSPIRON 7490 (6RKVN1) laptops (I7 10510U/16GB) as a replacement for lab computers. The software is working, but I don't see any other libraries, projects and files in the tabs on the left side of the workspace. Where do I need to copy the data files for them to be available?

Hi guys, I was in the q and a this weekend and tried to ask this question, but I don’t think I communicated it very well. Attached below are scans off the tutorial I’m trying to follow. Hey all, its been a tough few months but I'm really doing all I can to learn this beautiful app. Just need some help on a few things on modeling if y'all can be so helpful to clarify how it's done. When I select CPs to hide or lock, it will do the operation on the unselected CPs instead. Is there a way to reverse this feature? Can't seem to find it in the settings. Also I use to monkey about in NURBS back in the day when foolin around with Rhino and was wondering if there's any way to do a Rail Sweep or a loft? Seems like I'm just stuck with lath and extrude. Have a walking character (driven by walking action) with stride length on & constrained to a path. Fine so far but now I need to tweak the walking so that the characters stance comes to stand straight up at the end of the path but can't alter any skeletal motion with a chor action on any frame where the stride length is active. So does stride length "lockout" anytweaking???? Any help appreciated.

So I set up a Dynamic constraint in an action and it is working very well. But when I go to render it, there is no constraint in the resulting render. Do I need to run some kind of simulation or bake it to get it to show up in the render? How might one get this to work?? Detbear

Been using AM for more than just a few yrs. and still having trouble understanding action blending. Does the blending function mean how it blends with previous or next actions? I understand the transition to next action when you have a gap from one to another but doesn't have anything to do with the blending directly, right? Been trying to match the end of a saved action with a chor. action (just one lousy arm) and thought that just entering the rotation numbers from the position in the chor. into the last keyframe of the saved action would work but just whacked everything out. Been trying to duplicate the problem in a smaller chor. file but can't even get that …

I have tried many video players from the internet and even found that AM when importing jpgs animation can play clips by opening the image and hitting the "play" button in the playback bar at the bottom. (something that would have been handy to know yrs. ago.) But it plays slowly first time and then at hyper speed or unpredictable speed after 1st time. And the windows playback is just as unpredictable. My question is-Anyone know of a good player? Need'nt point out how much an animator needs to see stuff play in real (correct) time. Any help appreciated (sorry, no cash awards)

I know you've helped me with this before but don't remember that there was a resolution; clicking on the CPs fixes some of them some of the time but these aren't going away. Tried to isolate the model in a chor by itself (just the face and moustache) but it only manifests in my big fat chor on this project. As always any help appreciated. Using v 19.op on Windows 10

Have tried all the free video players I could find online and still can't find one that plays in "real time", but then used AMs ablility to read in sequences of numbered images and when you open the loaded image/sequence and hit the play button it plays great the first time but then will only play in hyper speed but it's still better than the results of all those players I tried before. I've had terrible luck trying to get all those free video players to read in image sequences as a single clip (even with a toggle button "read in as single clip" is activated) I know that the speed of your computer is most important but then why do all the Youtube videos play smo…
