GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)

-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

don't even know where to start. to the left, a render with an object with a decal appointed as displacement map, 200% to the right, a model view with said decal as color, just to illustrate here. there are so many things going WOW! so just pick one.. any one.. what is UP with this render? been following a tut on the xtras dvd, a battleship side. didn't seem difficult. hoping this is not of the "turn the lights on!" type of problems? does the decal have to cover all of topography to render? didn't even bother to position it for testing - and the round gaps will have modelled detail eventually, without displacement map.

OK this should be a interesting effect to pull of if its is actually possible , i currently have a tank like unit going up against a big walker , this walker has a gun that fires a green beam that is in essence a disintegration ray , what i need is a way to have the model disintegrate on one side till its all gone , to make an example take a block and shoot a beam at it only the part being directly hit would start breaking up first or a ship breaking up from the front till the back side finaly breaks up or in dragon ball z when i guy gets hit with a energy blast

Ok, I'm trying to make a stone road bed, but I'm having trouble with this. I used a picture as a displacement map, and the same photo to add color. But no matter what color stones I use, it just looks bad. Is there something I need to do to the displacement map prior to applying it? ***The displacement map is first and the color map is next**

Currently whenever I try to select multiple objects via clicking and dragging in windows vista I get a square the size of the selection field that stays after I have released. Its color changes depending on what appearance scheme I use. Most commonly it is black or dark grey. Is this a problem with my vid card? I have an nvidia 6900GT.

I'm going through the animation exercises, and one of the biggest things that would be helpful to me is if there was a way to visualize which bones are keyed when. Something like, if a bone has any sort of key during the current frame, it changes color. You might even have the color depend on what kinds of keys exist during the current frame (translation, rotation, etc). It would make it so much easier to find and delete keys, and to figure out which bones are keyed in the current frame. Does anybody know if such a feature exists? Thanks for any help! This is a problem I've always had and was wondering if it was normal. The edge of the patch where the decal ends is always distorted. Decals are applied to the flattened surface as planar and extend beyond the edge of the patch. The "seam" you see in the screenshot is the product of the edges of two decals (front and back). I fix it by just covering up the seam with another decal, but this complicates bump maps. Is this normal or is there a way around this?

I have a light in a pose shining at an model. The Pose is turned on The light is set to active it has plenty of intensity. But it does not work? Did the bulb blow out? If I do the same thing in an action it works fine. What is the deal? I should note that I can see the effects of the light in the relationship aka Pose but not when the model is in the chore. And please dont say just do it in an action. That will not work for this.

I thought when viewing some tutorials that when I go to the skeletal mode, the bones should all be in different colors. When I load the door stuck tutorial on my machine, they are all the same color...gray??? I don't know if this this is a graphics card issue or a normal process...can someone please help me clear it up? Thanks.

At first glance it appears to because the circles are around the cp's but when you rotate a bone you find out it does not seem to have mirrored them. So what is the final explanation on this? Does it if used correctly? Is there an alterantive way to mirror cp weights?

My upgrade arrived today and it's the version with the Yeti on the CD. I already have A:M 2000 (Dennis, but updated to 8.5) on my machine. Do I need to uninstall 8.5 before installing this new version? I have all my old models and related files in a separate work directory away from the program, but I'm assuming there may be some problems pulling files created six years ago into what may be a new file format. Will I need to pull in each old model I want to use, tweak them and resave before doing anything else with them? Will there be anything I should especially look out for, like missing patches?

Hello! Thanks to Jason Simonds, I got the free trial version to open and work, but not until after my Power Supply Unit croaked, which I had to replace today. Anyway, I'm going through the tutorials, and they show an option to save the animation in AVI format. The free version I have (v 19.0) does not show that, only .tga format. Is this something that only comes with a paid version? I'm happy to report that my wimpy Dell Optiplex 990 SFF running Windows 10 with a 240 power supply, intel factory integrated graphics card, icore 5 and 16GB RAM.. seems to be able to render a short animation just fine, so far. That's why I wanted to try the free version first…

When I pull up the Dope Sheet in order to add dialogue, I type the sentence, but whenever I have the timeline up and I type my sentence the words don't show up so I can fit them in the correct spot. Why aren't my words showing. Is there something wrong with the Dope Sheet. Is there something that has to be turned on for it to work? Hi again - When you have 2 sentences for example the KeeKat tutorial: "I have a secret. Can you keep a secret" Between the two sentences there is a pause, but my characters mouth is slowing starting to open during the pause. How do I keep his mouth completely shut until the second sentence starts "Can you keep a secret"?

Hi - I created a character and created all the 9 mouth alphabet positions for the character as pose sliders and named them appropriately. I created a new action and dropped in "secret" audio clip from KeeKat Tutorial. I made a new dope sheet for it and it automatically filled in everything. The problem is his mouth isn't moving, but everything is set up and working fine - when I scroll over the audio all the pose sliders are moving back and forth as they should - just no mouth movement. I tested it w/ KeeKat and it worked fine, so the issue is something I did with this model. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Thanks - Eric

While in tutorial 7: "Can you say that?" I have a recurring problem involving the "S"-type phonemes. I should note that when I first selected "create new dope sheet", it told me there was some problem I didn't understand, a file missing, maybe a dictionary? But it said it would build anyway so I proceeded. Everything seems to be working fine, except when I get to where an S should be in a word, I don't see it: And when I scroll all the way to the left, I finally find the missing phoneme, but I can't click it: Any tips on how to work with this? I'm not sure if this is an issue anyone else has posted about but: I was trying use a dope sheet with KeeKat (like in Excercise 7), but no matter what words I type in I get the same pop-up saying "Dictionary modified or Index file missing. Recreating Index File." I hit ok, and then another pop-up comes up saying "/Applications/Animation Master 12.0/index.i was not found." It has a bunch of pop-ups all about the same basic thing, at one point giving me a chance to find the index.i thing, before it finally gives up. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to fix this. I know I've been at this way too long today already but I just had something strange happen and I thought I would ask about it. I just finally got to the point where I could start animating and I'm looking through camera 1 in shaded mode. I put one of my characters in skeletel mode and start moving him. As his body departs from where he was another body, identicle to his, appears where he left from. Huh? At first I thought I had put two instances of the same character in the choreography but no matter how I try I cannot select the second instance of my character. The libraries are on the program CD (OZ), not on the HDD I can't drag and drop a primitive from the library panel to the modeling window. I can't drag and drop a primitive from the Library panel to the PWS model that is open, or to any other (new) slot in the PWS. I CAN import a primitive to a new model window. But drag and drop would be easier. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,

I just purchased the latest and greatest version of AM 2008 AKA V15.... Running on Vista (AMD + 3 gigs of ram with a Nvidia 8800 GPU card) I have used AM before.... but have been away from the tool for more than 2 years now..... I have a strange problem..... When ever I try and highlight a region in the choreography window or a model window the area hightlighted is obscured with a Gray or black box?? I don't know why this is happening?? Is this something to do with my video card or setting? (Nvidia 8800) The grey/black region goes away if I minimize then maximize the application window.... HELP Paul

Just a workflow question -- it seems you can't drag a model from the library into a model window to work on it. Instead, you must "open" the model. Then I presume use "save as" to make a copy if you don't want to affect the original, or if the original is from the CD. -SB

I would appreciate some help here, I can not figure out how to make my figure draw a line. I can make her finger follow a path - line, but how do I make that drawn line visible as she makes it? I would be very happy if someone could direct me to some information about how to do this.
