Hello everyone, back after a long illness and very happy to be working in AM again. I got a beautiful SpaceMouse Pro wireless and it works incredibly in Maya and Blender. I see that AM19 has a check box for the Space Mouse which is AWESOME!!! But it's so sensitive that if I move it a micron the model fly off into infinity. Way way way more sensitive than other 3D programs. How do I tone down the sensitivity of the Space Mouse in AM? Thanks!

Just remembered that I used to use it on my amiga a long long time ago and decided to see if it was still available but it looks like the last update was in 2021. I am wondering if version 19 is going to be the last.

I hope I'm asking this in the right place ? It might sound odd but, is there a way to change the way joints are listed in the action and choreo files. Not the names but the way the hierarchy is listed at the side ? At first I thought it was the order on which the bones were selected at first but. I tried to select them in the order I would use them later and it still seems to come out the same. descending it reads Back Back 2 Head Hips Then the first finger joint then the bicep What I 'd like to do is to get the hierarchy in order so it descended as Bicep Forearm Hand Thumb 1 Thumb2 Thumb3 First finger Furst Finger 2 First…

"When I mirror my constraints from left to right, the right constraints behave similarly to the left ones, resulting in a mirrored effect on both sides of the body, making my character appear as a double lefty." How can I correct this?

I am not sure if people are aware of this, but I just did a small test and it works... You can even use one decal (UV set) to layer color maps with transparency over each other. Not sure if it helps a lot (maybe with 3d painting it could be nice for instance to animate wounds or skin changes or something like that?) but it was an interesting thing for me... I have no experience of rigging so, when I adapted a model from a DVD some time ago, went with the rig installed I've insterted an extra bone since then ( for the lower torso, but thats not giving problems). Have lined up the feet and the legs in the model window but, when animated in an action window a twist or distortion appears in the ankles areas. Could someone kindly suggest what the problem might be and how to correct it ? Thank you for your time. simon LC Baby C.mdl

You probably have noticed that Z-buffered Kleig light soft shadows (most of what we use) are not rendering soft. Shadow cast on Ground Plane... However, it turns out that models can shadow themselves correctly. So... Use the Grid wizard to add a flat plane to your model and give it a bone that is independent from everything else in your model. In the Chor, constrain that bone to the Ground, then set the Ground to OFF. You can scale that bone to scale the plane to be as large as you need. Shadow cast on plane that is part of model... Of course this won't work when you have more than one model in a chor. For t…

I’m sitting here wondering about two things that has absoluttely nothing to do with each other… 1. When baking an object in A:M, what is the connection between the figure “Resolution” and the size of the resulting bitmaps. It seems completely arbitrary to me?? 2. Did the option to turn off the splash screen make it into v.18? And if so, where is it? Anybody?

Hi, I was trying to create a simple spiral like the attached drawing...I can do it with a lot of work (do wizards primitives spiral twice and stitch splines across) but there must be an easier more elegant way. Imagination needed, LOL! Thanks, Rusty

I've encountered a similar problem before and my apologies for asking again. I'm trying a technique whereby I draw with oil pastels on clear plastic, photograph it and import into AM for use as a Cookie Cut decal. I made a little run sequence, converted it to png files with a background in each frame of pure white ( 255,255,255 ) applied that sequence to a flat with the white selected as the key colour. The first frame was as expected The second came out solid rather than cut I will go back tomorrow and convert them to alpha backgrounds but, in the meantime, can anyone kindly suggest what the problem might be ? regards simon

Why is the Choreography so small? This has always puzzled me The poll is modeled exactly 1m tall and then dropped into the chore without further scaling.

I was testing ao using a prop next to an AM model to see if the prop gets included in the ao render or if it is ignored and just rendered normally. When I deleted all the lights and kicked up the ambient light to 80 being the only light in the scene AM crashes. Not sure if it's a bug or just me. Would be nice to be able to render imported objects with a little ao. ao_prop_test.zip

Have been working on the cpweights and other glitches for the past few days. when I noticed a rig problem ( entirely of my own making ) then tried to correct it without have to reinstall the whole rig. During that I inadvertently caused some bones to scale and, when I use the nulls to setup the finger poses I get some very odd results. Is it possible to readjust the values without having to reinstall the rig from scratch ? simon 2008 rig in V17 working in OSX10.68

I've added light sources to the headlights of a car so it can do some night driving. They work well on most of the scene but don't show up on a building that has a light list. Typically to fix this I'd drag the chor instance of the light into the building's light list. But since the light is a bone within the car it doesn't have a chor instance to drag. Anyone know of a work around? Thanks.

Wanted Cartoon "Nightwalk"! (a man came out at night to pee) Let's find the cartoon "Nightwalk". And place it in our gallery. I could not find on-demand "Nightwalk" in the http://amfilms.hash.com/ Perhaps it is left on the disk 98 AM??? Another thing I remember was a wonderful animated toilet - would also like to find it.

Is there a standard way to get a sphere ? I ask because I was trying to have a go at the current animation challenge and was using the ball made for last weeks brief. Only to find that its not as spherical as I had thought. The original was a lathed spline which had been adjusted to get the correct curvature, or so I thought Is there a standard method for such a primitive shape? regards simon

This is probably an extremely ignorant question.....But here goes. I have an old laptop that I would like to install A:M 18 onto. it's way old and 32bit. Does our subscription allow for installation on a laptop by any chance? AND........does that require an internet connection? I don't think my old laptop even has the ability to go on the web. It might if i put a bunch of work into it. But i doubt i will. But it seems to work well...

Hi all - I've purchased a pc for A:M. Initially I installed A:M on a Mac (no good). Now I wish to switch my installation to my pc and have contacted support. How long can I expect to wait, want to scale my expectations and not be too impatient? - but I am anxious to get going. I've even thought of purchasing it again and then asking for a refund for the initial purchase if it is going to take too long. Thank you.

How many times has this happened to you? You line up the perfect Birds Eye View to move that spline or rotate that bone and then you realize you need to go to a different Birds Eye View to hide some mesh first... and then you'll need to refind your current view! D'oh! Or maybe you sneeze while you're Turning the view and everything spins away to who-knows-where! Gah! If only you could get your view back! When you are in a standard Orthogonal view the Numberpad 7 key will take you back to the last-used Birds Eye View... but that doesn't work when you're already in a Birds Eye View! You need the amazing Birds Eye View Queue! …

Even after years of using A:M I find myself continually impressed by the breadth of features that are at our disposal. I was recently looking for a simple video/editor/viewer to do some basic reorganization of rendered frames (also from A:M) and thought to use A:M's own Choreography based linear editor. Needless to say it outperformed my expectations. I even discovered a few new things too. For instance, I didn't realize or had most certainly forgotten that saving out an Action of what I had edited together in the video actually could be reutilized (or just saved so that I could return to that earlier editing point). Did I run into any snags? Not really, although…

@fraizer writes... -I recall the chor problem (fixed in a later version I recall) but it's exceedingly rare that I ever save work as a chor. I always work with a PRJ that has everything embedded. -I'd have to see the path circumstances to guess at the path problem. -If you are on an annual subscription your license should allow you to also install/run v19.0 which still has a Mac version. Try that and see if the .pre setting are more comprehensive. We have Live Answer Time at Noon CDT tomorrow if you would like to look at this in real time.

A few textures from Filter Forge, a texture generation program, rendered out and cylinder mapped to a simple A:M shape. PRJ and bitmaps: FF tests005.zip They have a free 30 day trial you can get. It's a serious power user program but their library has thousands already made for you to download and use as is. If you like it, they have run "50% OFF SALE- LAST DAY" two out of the last five days, so I suspect they will do that again some time. Full screen to see detail. Luna, Wasteland, Crystal, Tiles... I find these days I rarely need to use the default 'Replace' and tend to use 'Add' as the Blend Method for actions. I'm pretty sure I've changed the default blend method before but can't recall how to do it now. Or did I just imagine that. Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason why particle sprites don't show up in Render Lock Mode (shiftQ) but their shadows do? And how much memory can A:M use in the Mac version? I have 8GB but A:M never seems to use more than 1 or maybe 2 at most. After what seems like only an hour or two trying to work with the Rear Window set things really start to bog down. Edit: OK ignore that last bit about the set. I'v deactivated and/or hidden as many of the set models as possible and things are running much better now. I just have to remember to turn them all back on again when it comes time to finally render!

I just updated to the latest Mac OS and wanted to let the Mac A:M users know what to expect. As expected, A:M is NOT really usable in Mojave. Many things still seem to work, but the primary problem is that the Project Workspace is unclickable. It's responsive in that selecting something in a model window or choreography will highlight the specific element in the PWS, but no amount of clicking on it will allow you to select it or interact with it via the PWS. Fortunately, the menus and item specific pop-up menus are still functional. Most of the other windows do seem to function: Timeline, Properties, Poses, etc. Some of the tool panels are also unclickable. …

[Edit: This side discussion has been split off from topic AMC Gremlin] Investigating further... Here is a comparison of displacement effects: First with a Gradient Material set to transition from RGB 128 to RGB 129 and Displacement set to 100000% Second is that gradient rendered to a TGA and used as a Displacement map Third is that gradient rendered to an OpenEXR and used as a Displacement map The Material is able to calculate an exact value for every pixel between the 128 and the 129 levels, creating a perfectly smooth slope. The TGA map, as expected, has one stair step from 128 to 129 The EXR has 8 steps. EXR uses a…

I was doing some final renders with my 'Holidays Image Contest' file and after 1 or 2 first tries I happened to notice a place in the camera properties where the file path and other parameters can be entered, so I tried it. I admit, I probably should have just left these alone, because after I entered the current final render parameters, suddenly, I could not get any out put from the final render anymore. I managed to re-enter the original parameters in there and it allowed me to resume my final render tests ok. When is the proper time, if ever, to enter any info into this area ? And/Or why would it seem to hamper my final renders ? Thanks

Hi, I posted this before and we all decided it had to be related to other Windows 8 weirdness but I completely reloaded the OS and all other problems are gone but my notebook is still shit canning me on A:M shortcut keys. For whatever reason, the program had the cobblestone pattern going one way to the left of the canal that the Bridge of Sighs spans and another way on the right side. I could not rotate the pattern to the right until I split it off from the one on the left and rotated it. I gave both the same properties, but for whatever reason the texture on the left ends up much darker than the pattern on the right. I am using Version 18 of A:M. I am also interested in knowing if there is a control for darkness of a texture and where that control is. Here is the example I am describing:

This relates to Tore's post on Scene lengths. Assuming a local variable isn't the cause... Can anyone tell me why this Chor Length defaults to 70? Recommended test: Open Project Crack open Chor (keyframe/dopesheet mode) in PWS Adjust Chor length to 50. Save Reopen I would expect the Chor length to adjust to the longest Chor Action (normal behavior) or stay at 50 (optimal). I can't see why it comes back as 70. If it doesn't open/stay at 70 for you then perhaps there is a local variable stored that is a root cause. Update: Just as I was posting I looked at the FPS of the Project and if set to another unit (say 24) that will result in a diff…

Have been trying to revamp the model so I could finish the animation. Not sure if its complete yet ( he looks too old ? ) but, saved the iteration and fully installed the 2008 rig, as per the instructions, then tested it with the previous animation, with the following painfull result. This is what it looked like before And these are the same frames but with the new model Can anyone kindly suggest where I should look for the fault ? Thank you for your help. Happy Christmas. simon I should add, Both models use the same rig ( hopefully ) installed in the same way and are used in the same chor file.

I recently started doing lots of large (for me anyway) rendering jobs on my Dell Windows computer I purchased the end of last year, which has an Intel i9 processor. The i9 processor has 8 cores (most desktop i7s have 4). Each core can run two threads of normal programs, but each has only one math processor. As a result, you can run 8 NetRender Messengers (slaves) at a time, as rendering is all math. I'm getting 45 seconds of animation (1,350 frames) at 720p rendered in a little over two hours! The last time I was rendering large numbers of frames (on a dual-core machine a few years back), it would take around 18 hours to do a similarly sized batch. I've found t…

Can anyone explain this? This model has drop-on Poses made for common hand poses like fist, rest, hyper-extended... I made the Poses for the right hand then copy-paste mirrored them to another Pose to make the left-hand version. That worked for all of them except "Salute" Why do the bones not mirror correctly for that one? Loyd_031dx hand mirrorTests.prj

Does anyone have a Thom Model or anything with the 2001 rig constrained to the basic BVH motion data? Constraining a character to BVH data has been on my list of things to do for quite awhile now and since I haven't got around to doing it yet I'm hoping someone already has one set up and ready to go. I'll post any Actions I modify from the BVH data to the 2001 rig in the A:M Exchange forum. Now that Robert has clued me into Baking Actions as a means to reduce the complexity of animation I'm all set to do some pose ripping. Alternately, if anyone has any character constrained to BVH data I'd be interested in testing that too.
