I'm doing some work with a student designing a perfume bottle. She wants the bottle to have a colour and transparency gradient so that its darker and less transparent at the top. I'm following Roberts suggestion regarding materials for my own animation were I need a heat transfer, but wondered if there might be a different way of doing it with the bottle ? Transparency and diffuse maps perhaps ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Hi there, I am doing a charakter which will have also hair. Does anyone have some good settings for the material properties to make it look nice and real? I am just asking in order to save some work on experimenting and searching for propper settings. Thanks already! Heiner

I was just about to launch a bug report because every time I tried to create a preview icon in A:M I was being shown the desktop. I then thought perhaps it best to post to the forum to see if others were seeing the same thing. Then I thought about how unstable my entire system has been of late (I haven't restarted my computer in a long time) Then I thought that resetting A:M should be tried before anything else (yes, and especially before reformatting my harddrive!) And it worked. Now I can create preview icons. Note to self. Here's what I think contributed to the problem AND what might also relate to some other problems, especially when working with older fi…

You probably have noticed that Z-buffered Kleig light soft shadows (most of what we use) are not rendering soft. Shadow cast on Ground Plane... However, it turns out that models can shadow themselves correctly. So... Use the Grid wizard to add a flat plane to your model and give it a bone that is independent from everything else in your model. In the Chor, constrain that bone to the Ground, then set the Ground to OFF. You can scale that bone to scale the plane to be as large as you need. Shadow cast on plane that is part of model... Of course this won't work when you have more than one model in a chor. For t…

This is probably an extremely ignorant question.....But here goes. I have an old laptop that I would like to install A:M 18 onto. it's way old and 32bit. Does our subscription allow for installation on a laptop by any chance? AND........does that require an internet connection? I don't think my old laptop even has the ability to go on the web. It might if i put a bunch of work into it. But i doubt i will. But it seems to work well...

Why is the Choreography so small? This has always puzzled me The poll is modeled exactly 1m tall and then dropped into the chore without further scaling.

I recently started doing lots of large (for me anyway) rendering jobs on my Dell Windows computer I purchased the end of last year, which has an Intel i9 processor. The i9 processor has 8 cores (most desktop i7s have 4). Each core can run two threads of normal programs, but each has only one math processor. As a result, you can run 8 NetRender Messengers (slaves) at a time, as rendering is all math. I'm getting 45 seconds of animation (1,350 frames) at 720p rendered in a little over two hours! The last time I was rendering large numbers of frames (on a dual-core machine a few years back), it would take around 18 hours to do a similarly sized batch. I've found t…

Hi all Is there a setting somewhere in AM to keep all the drop down menus within the properties window open/down all the time. e.g. when selecting a bone and I want to get to the rotate z value I need to drop/click the 'transform' button then drop 'rotate' button to get to the' z' value. Then if I choose a different bone I need to follow the process again..... etc....etc Is there a way to keep all those values open all the time. Hope my question is clear. Thanks

I have a model of double swinging doors with bones and poses that I want to import multiple times into a new model. After the import, I can select all the CP's and translate and rotate them into my desired positions but the bones stay anchored at their imported positions. Is there a way to move the entire model, bones and all, within a model? I'm fairly certain the answer is "No" but I thought I'd ask before doing the grunt work or installing them in the chor.

This is a branch off of the other Rendering discussion that more directly relates to the camera and its settings rather than various rendering approaches and such. For instance, I don't ever recall using the 'Use for new cameras' setting on the Render tab. Perhaps I'm just very forgetful. The feature is highly useful for getting cameras to stay in sync with settings assigned in the Render Panel or at least start from that base. If you've got any tips or suggestions or favorite approaches regarding use of the Camera in A:M I'd love to hear them. I'll add a few more myself along the way. Added Tip: Just below the 'Use for new cameras' option is 'Sav…

I just updated to the latest Mac OS and wanted to let the Mac A:M users know what to expect. As expected, A:M is NOT really usable in Mojave. Many things still seem to work, but the primary problem is that the Project Workspace is unclickable. It's responsive in that selecting something in a model window or choreography will highlight the specific element in the PWS, but no amount of clicking on it will allow you to select it or interact with it via the PWS. Fortunately, the menus and item specific pop-up menus are still functional. Most of the other windows do seem to function: Timeline, Properties, Poses, etc. Some of the tool panels are also unclickable. …

Can anyone explain this? This model has drop-on Poses made for common hand poses like fist, rest, hyper-extended... I made the Poses for the right hand then copy-paste mirrored them to another Pose to make the left-hand version. That worked for all of them except "Salute" Why do the bones not mirror correctly for that one? Loyd_031dx hand mirrorTests.prj

This is something I've been playing with I thought people might find interesting... Here's a render of two models. It's the same mesh copied from one file and placed in another. The surprise part is that they both have the exact same surface properties! The difference is that the first model is significantly smaller than the second one. It's scale has been changed in the choreography to match the second model. But notice that the roughness settings have been scaled to match. I've found I can get some interesting looks this way. Obviously, you could also experiment with the roughness amount and scale to get the look, but it's interesting to me that the…

Have set up a run cycle action for a sheep and need to animate it to a mark using the action, but then keyframe it after that point. I recall a tutorial somewhere about doing that but can't remember where. Could somebody kindly refresh my memory ? The setup at the moment is that, the sheep runs up to 00:04:09, The action stops. I would then like to key it jumping over a hurdle from 00:04:10, using the last frame of the action as the starting point for the keyframing. I am sure this is possible but, if keys are set after the end of the action, it seems to affect the section before. This may be caused by too many late nights and early morning, bu…

Being the impatient person I am, have never really got around to SSing properly. In order to improve, that needs to be addressed so, have watched a couple of useful tutorials on how to do it, and tried the exercise in TOAM. My question is, How much can be put in one SS relationship ? For example, The hand bone is rotated through 90degrees ( in the Y plane ? ) as if to say 'Stop". The SS is then set. If the hand bone is now rotated ( in the x plane? ) , as if to give the thumbs down. Does that require a new SS, or can it be incorporated into the first one ? Hope thats a clear question . regards simon PS Supplemental Using the 2008 ri…

Hi there, I am currentlz remoddeling a very complex polygon model using the snap to surface function. My idea was it, to cut my polygon modell into pieces, save them as individual models, import them into my modelling chor, and then switch model by model visibe or invisible as i need it. But, as far as I know AM does not know steady pivot points, and every model i Import has a different pivot, which makes it very anoying to asssemble my parts. Any Idea how i can maintain the pivot points of the importet polygon modells? cheers Heiner

I've sent messages multiple times over the past few months to various contact emails listed on Hash.com with the typical response being to contact a different email with no specific "Yes" or "No" answer to my request. I know there was a server/system crash around March which backed responses up. The last response suggested posting here on the A:M forum and here's the post. I want to purchase the newest A:M version that's compatible with Windows XP (v17?). Had v12 or v13 years ago and need an XP A:M again if possible. Why XP? Hello AM, I explore AM's extremely efficient and powerful mapping system ! I have a question about surface displacement : The definition is not excellent and we often end up with a rather coarse physical aliasing if we approach the 3D model. Is there an option to achieve progressive aliasing depending on the distance to the camera? thanks in advance greetings

If you are not using A:M's automatic back up feature you are missing out on a huge convenience. There have been many times when I've made a mistake that was too many steps and too many window changes to back out of with Undo. Having the last hour of of my work archived in five minute increments and being able to go back and find the last version before I made the mistake has saved a lot of rework.

I was looking through the registry under Windows 7 and noticed under the: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hash, Inc.\Animation Master V15.0\General There is a "string"(?) entry called "Tablet" it has a data value(?) set to "OFF" I assume the other setting for it would be "ON" but that is just speculation. I'm using a Fujitsu T4220 which is an older model convertible tablet PC. I've noticed that when using the pen the pen down (left mouse button held down) plus right click doesn't work and I have to use the attach hot key. I speculate that maybe it has to deal with resolving this but rather some conformation before I change a registry setting. If not that what doe…

I’m sitting here wondering about two things that has absoluttely nothing to do with each other… 1. When baking an object in A:M, what is the connection between the figure “Resolution” and the size of the resulting bitmaps. It seems completely arbitrary to me?? 2. Did the option to turn off the splash screen make it into v.18? And if so, where is it? Anybody?

Hello, I reinstalled Windows over the weekend, and just got AM reinstalled today. I'm having a really strange glitch with it that didn't happen before. When I try to move around UI elements, toolbars, dialogue windows, and such, the outline of the element I'm moving is offset by quite a bit, and it's impossible for me to place it where I want. I have no idea what is causing this. I tried restarting Windows, and uninstalling and reinstalling AM. Neither thing fixed it. Luckily, I was able to capture the outline bit in a screengrab. I added a red oval where my mouse cursor was. So, you can see what I'm talking about. Adding and editing splines works …

I'm having issues in v19o with rendering normal maps on non-rectilinear patches using anything thing other than a final camera render in a chor. At the top of the attached image are shown five flat surfaces. The left-most four patcher is similar to the surface that I was modelling when I discovered this. The next three surfaces have the same outline but each is built with a different patch layout to see its effect. The right-most surface is a reference square 4x4 patch plane. All patch normals are aligned. The same normal map image is decaled to each plane. Isometric views of these five surfaces are rendered as 5 pass progressive or 16 pass final in a modelling …

I've encountered a similar problem before and my apologies for asking again. I'm trying a technique whereby I draw with oil pastels on clear plastic, photograph it and import into AM for use as a Cookie Cut decal. I made a little run sequence, converted it to png files with a background in each frame of pure white ( 255,255,255 ) applied that sequence to a flat with the white selected as the key colour. The first frame was as expected The second came out solid rather than cut I will go back tomorrow and convert them to alpha backgrounds but, in the meantime, can anyone kindly suggest what the problem might be ? regards simon

I've added light sources to the headlights of a car so it can do some night driving. They work well on most of the scene but don't show up on a building that has a light list. Typically to fix this I'd drag the chor instance of the light into the building's light list. But since the light is a bone within the car it doesn't have a chor instance to drag. Anyone know of a work around? Thanks.

I was testing ao using a prop next to an AM model to see if the prop gets included in the ao render or if it is ignored and just rendered normally. When I deleted all the lights and kicked up the ambient light to 80 being the only light in the scene AM crashes. Not sure if it's a bug or just me. Would be nice to be able to render imported objects with a little ao. ao_prop_test.zip

Shown are three copies of the head of the Jungle Queen. Each head uses single attribute "skin" materials. The leftmost head material has subsurface scattering turned OFF while it's turned ON in the rightmost head. The centre head has subsurf. scat. turned OFF on it's right side while it's turned ON on it's left side. These three models are arranged in a chor that uses a single "sun" style light source and the global color (256, 256, 256) for ambient occlusion. With subsurf. scat. turned off in the camera, all three heads are screen rendered as expected with just sun, just ambient or both illuminating it. When subsurf. scat. is enabled in the camera and the only illum…
