This has had me puzzled for some time. I have a scene where the camera cranes down toward an object. The frames 0 + 2-10 renders normally, but frame 1 takes ages - at first I thought that A:M had crashed, but then realized that it just rendered and rendered and rendered and rendered...even if nothing at all is in the frame. The culprit seems to be the displacement on the object. If I turn of the displacement (or change it to bump) the long wait on frame one disappears. But why, oh why? What is happening in frame one?? Why ONLY in frame one? And why superlong rendering in an empty frame? If anyone like to take up the challenge I have attached all files here.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm really struggling to repair normals when they appear like this on the screen. V 18 is what I'm in. ALSO....A great feature request would be to have an option to color the patches "red" or "blue" depending on what direction. Then have an option to "flip all red" or "Flip all blue" THAT WOULD BE GOLDEN

I'm trying to resolve the lighting on my dancing figures. Initially I constrained the lights to the nody null so they would follow the figure around, That made the lights look too kinetic. Then constrained them to aim at a null and asnimated that to follow the figures ( hand keyed on the null ) but that appears to lead to unwanted overlaps or underlaps Can anyone suggest a suitable method ? What I am after is a stage show type effect with each character being lit be a follow spot. At present there are seven sets of two lights , one for each figure, and I am keying them on and off at suitable points. Any help gratefully received simon

Hello Animation Master.., recently I formatted my computer again, I'm on WinXP, remembered my last win_host_id.zip I received from you, started the procedure and ended up in a corrupted zip file. No, it's the last winzip,so that's not the problem. So I sended an email to the same person I did two years ago, yes, my archive is OK, and was backdated to the question who I am? Which program do I use, what's the serienumber, do I have a license? I'm sorry for the trouble I cause, but my simpel question is, Could you please be so kind to send me a new win_host_id.zip file so I can return it to you for a lick.file. I know my email adress is changed, du…

It seems like the spline architecture has radically shifted. I've been noticing strange weirdnesses over the last few updates and it seems that they don't behave as they once did. I tried to simply combine two splines on my most recent model and the bias handles remain separated for some reason on each side resulting in a "peak." This is not ideal if you want a flowing line. Attached shows the splines/ bias....before and after joining. This is very weird.

I find that some obj models simply refuse to import/ convert into A:M even if their file size/ complexity is radicaLLY reduced in the exporting APP. I would expect long conversions for high meg files, but these are as low as 3-9 megabyte obj models. I'm sure that there are many factors that I'm unaware of in this process, but at the same time much more complexed models transfer easily at times. I wonder how to improve this if possible. I'm happy to have the obj import option for sure, but it just won't import certain models. It seems to hate any triangles whatsoever. Would love to hear how you other guys are importing obj's, 3ds's, etc.

My computer died and I haven't subscribed for years. Do I need a disk in the drive? Does a new subscription mean I have to start all over? I do still have my subscription serial number. Does that still apply. Its a long story, but 2 years ago I got mugged and had a fractured skull. I have a bit of memory loss. But I'm doing good enough now to come back to A:M. Miss u guys!!!!!! and girls!

I was rendering a shot with a glowing object and I noticed that Screen based AO causes a 'banding' in the glow/ halow/ orb is present at the end of the last render pass. I wonder if this has to do with a setting or just a casualty of using screen based AO.... The glow is looking great until that last pass finishes and the AO is added in. I'm in V18. I increased the multipasses but that didn't help. Both with and without motion blurr carries the same results.

I must be remembering incorrectly but... I thought when we hid Control Points in a Model or Project and saved the files they remained hidden when the file was opened again. Apparently I just imagined that because a test in an earlier version behaves the same as current version. I must be thinking of Locking CPs. Any thoughts or redirections? I've been using hidden CPs in some experimenatal ways but if they return to visible state when a file is reopened (after saving) that defeats a key part of the experiment.

I notice that when I choose EXR file to save a frame, there is no "shadow buffer" to select. Didn't EXR have this option in the past? It's been a while since I rendered this format, so I may be missing a step somewhere.

Hello. I just returned to the A:M Forum because something weird happend to my 3D viewport. A red font apeared on my screen (I don't even know what I pressed, but it suppose was a big mistake and I know it has to do with keyfreaming). I think this is a very stupid question but how do I get that off? I would be glad if you could explain to me. If I'm not very clear, here's the thing Im talking about.

I'm trying to simulate the diffuse light from the illuminated sign on the top of my Checker cab with an array of small kliegs. I've worked out a chart of all the aiming angles I need. As I import each light instance as an action object they come in with Rotate X, Y & Z = 0 then I type in my desired angles and the lights snap to those values. But if I change my mind and type in one new value, like Rotate Y, all three rotate values automatically reset to new values. They're obviously not random because the orientation of the light doesn't move so it's like there's a function running in the background that automatically re-calculates the datum for each axis. It's a minor…

Hello, In the windows of Decals, I have a way to detach CP of each other (Ctrl click). But I don't find a way to paste them again. Is it possible? It is also possible to exclude a patch of Decals (Remove decals...), but I don't find a way to import a patch in Decals. Is it possible? I ask this, because when I modify a textured model, I lose patches in Uvs. So I try to found a way to repair the UVs. Thank you in advance for the answers

I've added light sources to the headlights of a car so it can do some night driving. They work well on most of the scene but don't show up on a building that has a light list. Typically to fix this I'd drag the chor instance of the light into the building's light list. But since the light is a bone within the car it doesn't have a chor instance to drag. Anyone know of a work around? Thanks.

Steve and I have been using poses in models to compose larger models -- even whole sets -- from smaller models. This is very useful to avoid creating multiple copies of mesh, as well as allowing an easy way of turning on and off various parts of the model. Here are the requirements that we had when the pose idea came up: Avoid having multiple copies of the same mesh. If there are 18 chairs in the set, there should not be 18 copies of the mesh in some model. Ideally, they need to be configurable for different situations. For example, we don't want a separate set for the coffee shop before it opens (less clutter) and after (more supplies, etc. laying around and on …

Hi, I have just a few minutes ago completed a new construction I created in A:M, brought over to Makerware and printed it out. It worked very well . It is a door traffic light. This is how it looks in A:M and in Makerbot / Makerware: And here you can read more about how it turned out and what it does with more images: http://www.patchwork3d.de/blog-5-en/complex-3d-print-door-traffic-light-677 See you *Fuchur*

Hi there, after having another look on the description of the Flatten command, I thought to myself, that this could solve much of my UV problems. Then I tried again, and like the 150 times before, it did not give me the results I expected. With lots of shifting, tilting, rotating I was finaly able to get a decent result with a open cylinder, but it was so far away from beeing a workflow one wants to utilise :-( Has soeone a decent tutorial on this, maybe even a video tutorial? Then, the manual says that flatten uses a invisible cylinder pointing along the Z axis in order to flatten the model. Maybe if that invisible cylinder would be made visible, the process woul…

Hi there, currently I am sort of very active, because after long time working with another app returning to AM feels realy rejuvenating! Regarding my problem: Is there any rule how many smartskins can be on one bone? I am asking because i managed to put two on one bone, but currently it seems as if AM lets me only use one and no more. Continuing down my road of memories while I pack for the big move.... One of the first "Third Party" training books for A:M... And the Pro Series Videos, for all your learning needs... If I come across anything else I'll post some pics up. I think I might still have the boxes from when I first purchased Martin Hash's 3D Animation Pro (before combining the "consumer" and "pro" versions of the software using just the name Animation:Master, which was the name for the "pro" version originally).

Working in V17g with OSX 10.68 Still trying to finish this project ( in amomgst a lot of other thing ) Presently putting in some blink poses an odd render problem seems to have occurred ? You can see that theres a non white sector in the Left eye ? and the boundary box around the selected CP's. If I hid the other cp's and render again this happens, No miscoloured patch. Nothing else has been changed, only the other cp's are not there. Can anyone kindly suggest a cause and solution ? simon

I'm running through the additions to v18M and am enjoying what I've seen thus far. It should go without saying that the TIF and PSD format plugins are much welcomed additions. (and for those of you that need to use an earlier subscription version of A:M it works well with those too. I was initially scratching my head about the 'Respect Z Order'/Shaded Mode selection option... it wasn't until I went back and read the changelog again and started experimenting that the lightbulb turned on. The main benefit at present appears to be for use with decals (nice!) but I've already used it to quickly work through images stacks too. I may leave that thing on all the time**. …

I find these days I rarely need to use the default 'Replace' and tend to use 'Add' as the Blend Method for actions. I'm pretty sure I've changed the default blend method before but can't recall how to do it now. Or did I just imagine that. Thanks in advance.

Working in V17G under OSX 10.65 A problem not previously encountered. Going through a chor in the PWS and trying to set the keys using the pose sliders in the properties box. Working fine until, a short while ago, the mouse disappeared after every click. Went to the desktop and it was there and available, just not in AM ? Reverted to using the pose sliders window rather than properties and it seems OK. Soes anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem ? regards simon

Hi A:Mler, for everybody in a german speaking country it may be interesting to know that there will be an article by Ralf Gliffe about Hash Animation:Master v18 in the Digital Production 04:2015 (the biggest german magazine about 3d-graphics and post production, http://www.digitalproduction.com). It will be about 5 pages long and will introduce quite nicely into the world of A:M. If you can't grab an issue at the kiosk, you can get it directly on their website. See you *Fuchur*

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it seems as though SSS negates smoothing using "averaged normals" or Porcelain (same thing done as a material). Also, "average normals" and Porcelain appear to give slightly different results even though they should be the same. Anyone know how to get around this? Here are some examples (the names of the files denote the settings):

I've encountered a similar problem before and my apologies for asking again. I'm trying a technique whereby I draw with oil pastels on clear plastic, photograph it and import into AM for use as a Cookie Cut decal. I made a little run sequence, converted it to png files with a background in each frame of pure white ( 255,255,255 ) applied that sequence to a flat with the white selected as the key colour. The first frame was as expected The second came out solid rather than cut I will go back tomorrow and convert them to alpha backgrounds but, in the meantime, can anyone kindly suggest what the problem might be ? regards simon

Gerry Mooney asked: If Tatooine has two suns, why doesn't everything have two shadows? To test this I set up a chor with two lights, each about 0.5° in width (similar to our own Sun) as seen from the center of the Chor, and about 1.5° apart (as suggested by images in Star Wars. PRJ: TatooineTest02.prj (Move the suns by rotating the nulls at the center of the Chor.) When the suns are low in the sky, 20° above the horizon and can cast long shadows, the two shadows are very close together but visibly distinct: When the two suns are high in the sky, just after local noon, the shadow difference is barely visible:

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Up close the transparency map I'm using is working correctly. But from a distance, not so much. I've used transparencies before without this issue, but no matter what I try it's displaying the hair strands as if I made a space at the end and then continued.

It's always a good idea to save your files... that and close all the hundreds of other programs you've forgotten to close... you know... to free up memory. I think this guy was anticipating what was about to happen to him so I took a screen shot of the only thing left of him when things went south. So, don't forget to save your work! P.S. I'm still waiting for Windows to notify me of the solution.

Hello, Everyone I'm sorry I have been slacking on projects, emails, and well fixes. I do freelance work and also help out at a friends tech company. The work load is getting to me. I have been falling behind on some Hash, Inc. items, support@hash.com & orders@hash.com emails, and a few other things. But I'm back today and have free'd up some time next week with enough coffee and some luck I should be able to be back on top of my work load by the end of next week. The list of stuff I need to get on top of: Emails adding user subdomains for hosting of Animation Master stuff f…

If anyone knows any shows that you would think Animaiton Master would be a good fit. Please let us know in either a email, this post or facecook. We will look them over and may join them. Can someone tell me what the last stable Mac version of AM is please. Latest version (18L) Standard and SSE4 just crash continuously - I can't even create a project, load an object then save the project without a crash (everytime) or the Mac version really hates Tars assets! I literally can't get more than 5-10 clicks before it crashes - can't render, can't save though it does seem to let me just pose a model as long as I like....
